Working with Saved Selections

Hey guys,
I'm working with a lot of saved selections suddenly, and was wondering if there are easier ways to work with them that don't require ScriptListener script. The 3 things I can think of that I need to do with saved selections is, of course, save a selection, load a selection, and the one I can't figure out is, can I simply check to see if a selection exists in the saved selection list? I'm assuming the best way to check for a saved selection is to simply look for that selection via the channels window/tab (a feature I haven't used much as far as script is concerned). Saving a select I would imagine is fairly simple, I just don't know how to do it outside of using SL script. Loading selections gets a little more complicated as I need to load a selection from one document into another. I have SL script to do both the save and the load, but if there is a cleaner way to do those, I'm all for it. The biggest thing is how to determine if a certain selection has even been saved. Anyway, any tips anyone can give are much appreciated.

Ok, of course I go and figure out most of the things I struggled with on my own shortly after posting. For finding and loading a selection was as simple as below:
var thisDoc = app.activeDocument;
var myDoc = app.documents.getByName("original.psd");
var chan = myDoc.channels.getByName("channelName");
thisDoc.selection.load(chan);
Creating the chan variable throws an error if it can't find the one specified, so it simply needs to be placed in a try statement if you simply want to see if it's there or not. The load was a lot simpler than I expected as well. I'm still a bit confused on the save though. It doesn't seem quite as cut-and-dry as the check and load. Any suggestions on simply saving a selection as a certain name?
Edit: One thing to note is; if you're loading the selection to another document; it appears that the target document must be the exact same width/height as the source of the selection.

I can't give you a definitive answer, but it's possible that this is simply a known limitation similar to the way that "Create table as select" won't run the select statement the same way as the basic select if it involves a distributed query.

How to work with saving projects/selecting, How to work with saving projects/selecting

Hello,
I have a couple questions about working with FCP X folders, projects, etc. So basically, I have all of my Macs home sync excluding the "Movies, Pictures and Music" section with those having dedicated AFP shares on my Lion Xserve. I figured out the Aperture and iTunes part and it works very well for me using the "Home Sharing" and "Merge" library feature in Aperture and iTunes. How would I go about doing something similar with all of my video projects? When I am activelty working on projects, I want them to be in the "Movies" portion of the computers home folder, but I would like to be able to then store it on the "Video" AFP share I have on my server for archival purposes and accessing them on my other netwokred Macs. How would I do this? Do I just drag the stuff from the video folder? Will FCP X on other Macs open this succesfully? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I am very new to FCP X, switching from FCS.

Since I first tried Photoshop CS6 on PC I encounter the following problem: when I use quick selection tool at some point the selection gets completely random and I see parts of my artwork disapear. Even after closing the file without saving the changes I see the artwork completely corrupted, without any possibility to recover. As if parts of the image were deleted.
The problem persisted after I changed to Creative Cloud on Mac (I'm running OS X 10.8.5.)
I have just seen that it also happens when I work with regular layer masks.
I desperately need to fix this problem because I cannot keep using hours of retouching work again and again.
Hope someone can help.

I am also having the same exact issue. This is the third time this has happened in about six months. I use the quick selection tool and I see a alpha mask that looks truncated and it show random parts of the image in the mask which has nothing to do with the selection. But the worst part of this is that my retouching layer the only other layer comes back completely empty even if I try to save the file in various other file types like tiff and it comes back empty. I'm losing a lot of retouching time here. I also hope some else has an answer.

Working with dynamic selection screen in LDB FMF

I am working with LDB FMF and I have a requirement where user need the selection field in initial screen which is already comming in dynamic selection option.
Is it possible without changing the standerd LDB.

user doesn't want's to click on dynamic selection option and select the fields.

I would like to work with a selection of videos from my aperture library

I recently switched from iPhoto to Aperture. I did this in order to subdivide my iPhoto library, because it is now approaching 200 GB. I have not yet divided it, but I like to make little video vignettes from certain events. I used to be able to import just an event into iMovie, but now it seems to import my entire video library. It takes 20 minutes just to load iMovie. I don't want to see EVERY video in my library, I would like to see just the ones I have selected to work with. How can I do this?

All My Files is 1.5 MB.
Applications is 7.29 GB.
Desktop is 1.18 GB.
Documents is 1.18 GB.
Downloads is 758.4 MB.
Movies is 3.4 MB.
Music is 424.7 GB.
Pictures is 418.9 MB.
My personal file is 429.54 GB.
I don't have any video content on my iTunes.
Is there something else I am missing?

Problem with multi take drum tracks not working with group selection editing

HI All
Ive recently tracked drums into using 7 mics and doing multiple takes layered on top of each other, the 7 takes belong to the same group and i have enabled group editing in the settings.
I think i changed the comp options at the end of the track and as a result audio tracks 1 and 2 edit between takes together fine. I.e. when i choose say take 5 with track it does the same selection for track 2.
Tracks 3-7 work in the same way fine, im just wondering if anyone knows how to get them as a complete group again so that when i choose take 5 for example on the one audio track, it will make the same selection for all of them!

I did a multi camera edit of Act 1 of a taped performance and all went well. Moved on to Act 2, which ran longer and each camera needed a tape change. So I matched the clips from each camera on each video track and tried to move on to the sync & then create a multi camera sequence stage of the project. That's when I hit a road block. I could not sync the four video tracks. So I consulted Adobe's on line help and this was all I could find about my predicament:
Note: Adobe Premiere Pro uses an overlay edit when synchronizing clips. Take care not to overwrite adjacent clips if you have multiple clips on the same track.
So what was I to do next? I found your post and now know exactly what to do. Thanks for a great explaination and saving me a lot of head scratching.
Why couldn't Adobe explain it as well?

My first PL/SQL block not working with using Select query within begin

I am new to PL/SQL , just started with basics of BLOCKS .
I am having a query here in executing a block .
When i am doing a insert oprtation in Blocks Begin method everything is working fine , but when ever i tried to do select operation , some error is being thrown .
First of all This is my Table :
select from try :*
KEY      VALUE
Key     Value
Key1     Value1
Key2     Value2
Key3     Value3
======================
This is the code which is not working : Please see the code and tell me what is the problem .

perhaps you meant something like:

select key into v_KEY FROM try where v_value=Value ; -- No quotes

Until you assign a vlue to a variable, like v_value, it is NULL, so your original statement was equivalent to
{code}
select KEY FROM try where NULL='Value' ;
{code}
In PL/SQL, a SELECT ... INTO statement must return exactly one row, or else you will get an error (either NO_DATA_FOUND or TOO_MANY_ROWS). This is different from SQL, where a query cn return any number of rows, including 0, without raising an error.

Search not working with multiple select in dropdown field

There is a field called Tipologia which is dropdown menu with checkbox (multiple select). Choose more than one checkbox and its automatic append with comma in text field which is customized using javascript. Now then if you submit button then its not working as our products.
Now for this there is a custom field in admin in web apps items. This field is same for all items and values are different for all items like that which you can see above dropdown checkboxes value.
Now my question Is it possible that for that one field in admin which has different value for different items and when i search from website and checked that cehck boxes and it search for all different items ??
For example in admin suppose 2 items which has different value for that one field. Suppose one has value called Appartamento and other is Villa. Now from search form which is on website, that dropdown checkboxes, if i select these two values (Appartamento and Villa) from these and then search, it will display that both items from web apps ???
Is it possible ??? Can you help me for this ???

The simplest way
a. Make Country a select list with submit.
b. Make City a slect list based on query and in the query add the condition
and country = :P1_country -- where p1_country is the item in step a abovec. Make City conditional by adding a condition on the item of the type Value of Item in expression 1 is not null, and in expression 1 enter p1_country.
This way when the user lands on the page only Country will display. Once cuntry has been selected the page will submit and now the City item will be displayed with the values returned by its query.

How to create a control to work with a select function to display two separate texts.

I'm currently taking a Labview course at my college and for a starting project we need to create a problem to convert x amount in USD to either Yen or Euro using a toggle switch and a select boolean function. I need to know how to display a text label for the Yen value and for the Euro value being displayed in the same numeric indicator when selected. Basically I have the program working I just need to know how to create a control that will show Yen next to the value when it calculates for Yen and likewise for Euro

As Ravens Fan said you can either use a string indicator next to the numeric indicator to display the currency type or use a property node to edit the label of the numeric control to display the current currency type. Please let us know if you have more questions about how this will work.

Hi, I'm looking for some help. I'm new to Javascript and working off my limited knowledge. Below are three (3) items I need help figuring out.
---JavaScript 1: Today---
I have a Document Level Javascript that gets the current date and automatically enters it into a field. Below is the example:

Problem: Each time I open the PDF, the date gets updated.
Need: I would like for the date to only be updated if the field is blank (empty).
---JavaScript 2: Registration Fee---
On this same form (application) I would like to calculate TWO costs. The first cost is mandatory registration cost, however the amount is prorated based on the month the application is filled out. Below is the pro-rated amounts based on the remaining months in the year:
Months Remaining     Fee
          12                       $15.00
          11                       $13.75
          10                       $12.50
          9                         $11.25
          8                         $10.00
          7                         $8.75
          6                         $7.50
          5                         $6.25
          4                         $5.00
          3                         $3.75

Two questions:
1. For "function calculateRegistrationFee", how do I format the return value into 2 parts in order to populate the different fields below. Let's use this example, see screen shot below:

Do I need pages work with/save Office docs?

I'm confused on how iCloud works with saving documents. It mentions a number of times that you can work with Office documents, but then it says you need Pages on both my iPhone and Computer to be able to work with and save documents in icloud. How exactly does that work?
I need it to sync between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4.

I'm with you so far. Then when I work on them on my iPhone, can I save in Word? Everyone I know has Word and not Pages, so I'm concerned about send files that they can't open.

Not able to get ADF select many checkbox working with binding lists

Hi,
I have 2binding lists: list A that holds the selected choices and list B for all the choices. When the user opens the page, a list of checkbox should be displayed all the choices from list B with the saved ones pre-checked from list A. When the user changes the selection, the binding list A should be updated.
I tried to use ADF select many checkbox but could not get it working for this.
There are 2 big issues:
1, can get all the choices from binding list B displayed but not able to pre-check the ones from list A.
2, when the selection changed, not able to updated list A with the new choices
I find some sample but it is talking about saving the selected choices into the managed bean not into binding object and using valueChangeListener. How to implement this in ADF? Please help.

Helen,
I don't think you can do this with a select many checkbox. This component works on one list whereas you want to handle two. You may archive this if you use a managed bean and handle all the list manipulation in java.
Your use case more looks like a select many shuffle (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18196_01/11.1.2.0.0/lovs.html).

i would like work with a field of a select in a external java program. I give you an example:
i want copy a table into another table, but i want do a little modification (before insert action) in one parameter via Java class wich parameter is a field in the select.
Example:
i've two tables:
TABLE_BACK (ID, CARACT)
TABLE_NEW (ID, CARACT)
and i've a java Method in an external class com.upc.myClass.modifyCaract(String paramS)
Then, before insert a row in table_new, i want do a transformation in Caract field from table_back. I want do something like this:
INSERT INTO TABLE_NEW (ID, NAME) ( SELECT ID, <%=com.upc.myClass.modifyCaract('I WANT HERE CARACT FIELD FROM TABLE_BACK') FROM TABLE_BACK )
is it possible? how can i do it?

Well, I think to be possible do what you need.
1) In a procedure step, at source tab query the values, something like:
select caract as MY_CARACT from TABLE_BACK
2) at target tab, use the tags "<@ @>" to import the java class (after put it in the correct ODI directory).
3) at same target tab, after the tag just write (as your example):
INSERT INTO TABLE_NEW (ID, NAME) ( SELECT ID, <@=com.upc.myClass.modifyCaract('I #MY_CARACT) FROM TABLE_BACK )@>
I think this will be enough....
