Workshop and beehive

I would like to use Workshop in future webservices development, however I don't want to deploy Workshop in production application servers, which from what I've heard, is necessary. But I've heard that I can use beehive libraries to run Workshop created webservices without Workshop. However, I'm having trouble finding documentation on this and what is required. Has anyone else tried this and can point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Hi Jill,
8.1 Workshop web services cannot be deployed without the workshop runtime. In 9.1, both WLW and WLS web services are both based on JSR-181.

You'd probably have to be a little more specific to get a better answer, but I can try to provide some information.
I don't know what you mean by the "BEA framework". That could mean lots of things. Beehive is a framework for building web applications. It requires JDK 5. In WLS 9 and Workshop 9, Beehive is part of the "BEA framework". In WLS 8.1, Workshop applications use the NetUI framework, the functionality of which has been subsumed into Beehive.

SQL Report not showing data - available in SQL Workshop and SQL Developer

I am having an issue with developing a SQL Report in APEX 3.2.1. I run the code in both SQL developer and SQL Workshop and I get data pulled back (both against my development environment). When I run the same code in a SQL Report region, it returns no data available. Does anyone have any idea what would be causing this? Other regions on the page accessing different tables in the same schema return data without issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Could you explain the last comment a bit more. Here is a bit more info just in case I touch on the info with it. The db schema is BPAMGR, the Workspace is BPAMGR. We use the same schema for all of our reporting. All of our tables are in the same schema. We don't use any tables outside of this schema. Our APEX workspace has been associated to only this schema. The tables are able to be queried by SQL Workshop in the same APEX instance that the report application is under.

$30 upgrade fee is for Wireless Workshops and Backup Assistant Plus?

I recently upgraded my device, over the phone, using the 2 year discount price of $199. I was completely unaware and never told by the VZW agent that I would be paying an extra $30 to help VZW offset the cost of Wireless Workshops and their Backup Assistant+ crap. The agent on the phone told me to expect a $199 + tax charge on my next bill but failed to mention the extra $30 and, to be quite honest, I'm pretty upset about this. I called the customer support line and was told the $30 free is there to support the cost of the Backup Assistant Plus service (which I do not use and have completely removed it from my phone because it's trash) as well as the Wireless Workshops they offer in their stores. This is complete ** and if I had been made aware of this nickle and dime scheme by VZW when I was upgrading, I would have canceled my upgrade and gone with another carrier instead of signing another 2 year contract. I will NEVER go to a workshop for a device, service, whatever that I know how to use or could spend an hour researching online so why am I having to pay for this? I use Titanium Backup Pro and the Android SDK environment to backup my phone and data instead of the clunky Backup Assistant Plus trash. In fact, I've completely removed all traces of BA+ on my phone...
So why am I "donating" $30 to Verizon for services that I, and I'm willing to bet most people, don't use? Why wasn't I made aware of this by the VZW agent I spoke to on the phone?

Well according to the stats you just posted sales tax is 8% so since you insist on including that, then at full price a $600 phone plus 8% is $648. $260/$648 is 40% thus you received a 60% discount. Also even at 57%, you are complaining about a 57% discount? Really? If you went to a car dealer and got a 57% discount you'd be ecstatic. If you got a TV for 57% you'd be ecstatic.

There is no way you were not told in some fashion. You say VZW agent. So you ordered this over the phone? Ok so where did you see the phone you wanted? Um at this site? Well the fee is listed VERY clearly on the price of the phone. if youw ent into a VZW store it;s CLEARLY listed on the price tags.

Workshop and training preferences

Greetins all,
May I ask a quick question with regards to training and skills development. In the UK we've been training around the topics of IDES/ERP and BW - with the vast majority of faculty interest being in ERP because ot touches on so many business and IS topics.
However as new products become available and SAP is taken up by other faculty the range of training topics varies. In the UK for example there is a lot of interest in SCM and SRM - I ran a very brief 'taster' workshop in SCM in collaboration with our Irish Service Centre a few months ago and got perhaps 8/9 attendees but it seems perhaps there are another dozen or so that woiuld be interested in a second session.
So I was wondering what other topics are of interest to faculty - CRM, BW, etc.
And also - more importantly - would you actually use the skills in the classroom? The reason I ask is because although there is great demand in finding out about SCM no UKI school uses it as yet - we are still an ERP/Business Intelligence community with some interest in Portal and Solution Manager for the more technical faculties. SCM etc. may be of interest for faculty skills development and research puroses but would anyone actually use it??

support. I was told at the time (JBuilder 7) that you had to have an additional
plugin over and above the JBuilder/WebLogic Server installation. I never got
the plugin.
Also, you would need clarification on what the plugin addresses. WebLogic Server
has two different web service implementations. You mentioned .jws files so that
makes me believe that you are using workshop-enabled web services not WebLogic's
standalone (ant script) web service implementation. You need clarification on
which (either? both?) JBuilder supports.
I belive that you can start by opening a support case with BEA. Then if BEA needs
clarification from Borland, BEA will contact Borland.

About Oracle Workshop and other Oracle's development tools...

Greetings, I'm wondering what would be the future of the Workshop IDE. Oracle also distributes JDeveloper which is the company's historical development tool for Java/J2EE. Will both tools continue to be supported ? Or rather they will merge in an unique one ? In this last case, will this final too look rather as Workshop or rather as JDeveloper, I mean, will it Eclipse based ? What about the Workshop support for WebLogic Portal Server, AquaLogic Service Bus, etc. ? Will this support be maintained, meaning that the products itselfs will be maintained ?

It looks as though Oracle will develop both IDEs: the Eclipse based Workshop and JDeveloper a few years... but that's unofficial whispering in the jungle.
I think many want it to be Eclipse based, since most developers are learning Eclipse while they grow up...

but I'm unable to find any data on BEA or Borland’s web sites. Do they integrate
more than a simple recognition of .jws files?

The reasons regarding them (aka mine) to be on "seen only", are that there went a lot of work and stress into them, the topics are not always clear if you weren't their (mostly slides with only pictures) so I want it to be in the right context and/or my company paid for the time making them (so I am only the representative on this on behalve of them).

How to deal with Portal, Workshop, and non-BEA software?

Hi,
I'm really new to working with portal, and have looking into integrating a single sign-on software (RSA ClearTrust) into existing portal code.
The ClearTrust installation involves installation of a bunch of software that integrates with the portal software, but I found that if the portal code was developed with Workshop, that if Workshop is run again after the ClearTrust integration has been done, that Workshop appears to overwrite some of the XML configuration files (e.g., web.xml).
The result of this is that the WebLogic server won't start.
So, I was wondering if anyone here has had to deal with this kind of situation, not necessarily with ClearTrust specifically, but maybe with other products?
I'm not looking forward to re-doing the integration everytime someone makes some portal code changes :(...

There are really two types of Graphic Styles - Object level styles and Group level styles. There is no way to tell which style is which. So if you have an Object level Style and try to apply it to a group of objects or often a compound shape, you get each individual object having the style. If you have a Group level style and try to apply it to only an object, you often get nothing applied.
It perhaps sounds like you have an Object level style and are trying to apply it to a group.
There's no way to convert an Object level style to a Group level style or vice versa. The best (and pretty much only) way I've found to get around this is to apply the style to teh correct level then make a note of all the style settings, select the other level and recreate the style for that level.
Whether or not a style applies correctly has a great deal to do with specific aspects of the style in addition to what level the style was generated from. This is a frustrating aspect of Graphic Styles.

Java Stored Procedure via Function Give 0RA 600 from SQL Workshop and App

You could be right in your guess that the error is related to MTS. Search Metalink for '16371'. Why not switch your APEX app to use OHS and test whether the error persists. ?

Hello I have a stupid nasty problem i am fighting second day. And it really gets me maaaddddd!!!! Please help.
I need to deploy from Bea Workshop studio 3.3 and EJB to JBOSS 4.0.5. What i am doing is:
New Project -> EJB Project->Next
"Project Name" Test
"target runtime" - Jboss v4.0.x
configuration - custom
EAR membership - Add project to EAR- selected
now press "Next"
Project Facets:
EJB module- 2.0
EJB Doclet- 1.2.3
JAVA - 6.0 the installed runtime points to JDK
now press Next
then Finish
in the ejbModule create package "test"
in this package create XDoclet Enterprise JavaBean
Session Bean
on the next screen:
all is default except the package which is "test"
Next
EjbName = MyTest
then Next
then finish
Now I go to Run
on the left select J2EE server->New
in the Server press New and select JBOSS
Using defaults
Deselect Run module directly from workspace
Now select the project to be deployed.
press Run
Now the Error is "Internal error occured during launching!!!"
If i press publish on the server it says that it cannot publish with no explanation.!!!!!
If I use only WTP without Bea Workshop studio I don't have any problems with the JBoss deploy.
If i create dinamic Web project on Worksho I deploy it successfully don't have any problems. The problem is only if i want to deploy specificly a EJB!!!!

Workshop and Filters

We are planning to incorporate filters in our J2EE App (created using workshop
8.1 SP2) to be able to the NDC approach of Log4J in order to be able to log the
remote host name in our server log file with every log message . Ours is an intranet
app so the number of clients is < 60 and we need to log messages in a single server
log file with each message identified by the remote hostname.
How do we incorporate filters in workshop ?? Is it like a normal filter in any
web-app or is it not allowed in workshop (which i guess is highly unlikely).
If anyone has a code snippet that would be great else if u can let me know the
approch that would be also cool.

Filters in Workshop are no different then in any other J2EE based
application. Write the filter code in a class as per usual and modify the
web.xml in your web project accordingly just like you would do normally.

Workshop and Razor (CM integration)

I am looking to integrate WLW and Razor (www.visible.com). Workshop doesn't natively
support Razor for Source Control, however workshop has a plug-in that is supposed
to work with CM tools that support MS SCC API (Microsoft's source control API).
Razor supports this API, so I am hoping that it is possible to integrate the two.
I'm posting this to see if anyone has had any experience integrating workshop
with Razor, or using the generic MS SCC API to integrate non-supported source
control tools.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
