Workshop, ant, and ejb project

I exported an ant build file from the workshop for an ejb project. I ran
the build from the command line. I got the following exception:

DESCRIPTION:
If you have overloaded methods with the same parameter name but the different parameter type and running EJBGen on the bean, all the overloaded methods are not included in the Remote interface.
Like if you have the following methods:
1)-public Record getRecord(Integer pRecordId)
2)-public Record getRecord(Integer pRecordId, String str)
3)-public Record getRecord(Integer pRecordId, double str)
running EJBGen on it will include only the method 1 and the method 2 in the remote interface.
Does this match what you were seeing? (the WLS CR is marked as fixed in 10.0 - patch is requested for 9.2/9.1)

  • Can't use JPA facet in a Workshop 10.3 EJB project

    Greetings,
    I'm using Oracle Workshop for WebLogic 10.3 to migrate an enterprise application from JBoss 5.0 to WebLogic 10.3. I'm a bit confused as, while I can add the JPA facet to a Dynamic Web project, I cannot do the same with an EJB project. I'd need to take advantage of the IDE automatic facets management instead to manually dealing with libraries and dependencies. I beleive that this is the reason these facets exist. However, after having created a EJB 3.0 project, it is impossible to add to it the JPA facet. I had to define the JPA entities in a Dynamic Web project as this is the only one to which I can add the JPA facet. This is not regular. Additionally, the SLSB facades may only be defined in an EJB project. They reference the JPA entities in the Dynamic Web project which, given the class loading hierarchy, is not possible. So my question is: how is one supposed to use JPA with WTP projects ?
    Many thanks in advance for any help,
    Nicolas

    This isn't supported in Workshop 10.3 and prior, the JPA tooling only works with Dynamic Web Projects in those releases to my knowledge.
    I think this changed in OEPE 11g. Check out this article that shows JPA being used in the context of a Utility Project:

  • Resource Bundle and EJB

    Hi All,
    Has anyone tried successfully loading a ResourceBundle properties file from within a EJB? I need to localize messages based on user locale. Hence the need for ResourceBundle.
    I read about set the EJB classloader's classpath with a reference to the resource bundle, but I don't know how and where to do this...
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks and regards!

    Hi all,
    First, thanks all for your answers!! The suggestion from Warnerja has worked. I did packaged the resource files into a .jar file and imported it into my Enterprise App. Thus, I did make a reference in both web project and ejb project.
    Hello Dhinojosa, in answer to your question, my project objectives is provide full internationalization support to my application. My doubt is how to implement internationalization support on an application composed by one Web app project one Ejb project and both tiers have to access the resources...
    Thanks and regards,

  • Workshop ANT Script Error in JAX-WS and XMLBeans Facet

    I am having a strange problem. I have a web service project created in Eclipse BEA Weblogic 9.2 Workshop IDE. The structure is:
    -EAR...which consitutues
    -JAX-WS WAR project
    -EJB Project
    The JAX-WS WAR has XMLBeans/XMLBuilder facets enabled to be used for compiling my XSD schemas being used in my web service.
    When I build the project and export the ear through the IDE it works fine. I wanted to generate ANT scripts for all these projects so I can build and export the EAR through the command prompt. I was able to that. Now I wanted to check-in the project code in a source control management tool. Naturally I shouldn't check-in the .xbean_bin and .xbean_src folders generated by the the JAXB API against my schemas. The problem happens that when I delete these folders and then run my ANT build script through command prompt I get the following error:
    assembly: [mkdir] Created dir: C:\Projects\kc\kces2\kcesWs\build\assembly\.src
    [assemble] Input fileset contained no files, nothing to do. init.env: init.typedefs: init: generated.root.init: webservice.build:

    The above mentioned XMLBean folders are created, my schemas are compiled but the build process terminates at that point when trying to compile the web service code file i.e. the jwsc task fails. Right after that, if I again initiate the build everything goes fine. Apparently the build script expects these 2 XMLBean folders to be present before hand?
    The ANT build chain goes like this:
    -ANT build script for the EAR project -> which calls child ANT build scripts for all referenced sub projects, which are the WAR (here it fails on the first run) and the EJB projects in my case.
    Any idea why it is happening? Thanks a lot.

  • Workshop 10.1 and EJB 3.0

    I am using Weblogic Workshop 10.1 and I am trying to create an EJB 3.0 stateless session bean. Is there support for this?

    Hi,
    There is no direct tooling support for Java EE5 yet with Workshop10.1, so you cannot create EJB3.0 ejb's with tools.
    With that being said, one of the workshop engineer came up with a workaround to support EJB3 ejb's, so you can manually write them up and deploy to WLS server. I have pasted his steps below.
    Thanks,
    Vimala-
    ===Response Start
    Regarding using EE5 constructs in Workshop, much of this can be done today despite not having the facet versions, though it does require a couple of workarounds that I'll mention here.
    Create EJB module and add to EAR
    1. Create (Basic WTP) EJB Module. The main reason for creating an EJB module is to get application.xml updated with the correct module type.
         1. Disable the Weblogic EJB Extensions facet (See note above).
         2. De-select the "create client jar" option.
         3. Finish. The project will now be tagged with an error because the ejb-jar.xml (v2.1) doesn't include any EJB definitions.
    2. Replace ejb-jar.xml with the EJB3 descriptor (WTP produces errors when the 2.1 is not present, and the 2.1 descriptors doesn't validate when empty).
    3. Create EJB Beans and Interfaces
    Create Web App and add to EAR
    1. Create dynamic web project
    2.Replace web.xml root element to update version to EE 5
    3. Update J2EE Module Dependencies. If the web project is created after the EJB project. You have to add the module dependency.
    4. Add Servlet
    1. WTP has a handy way to add the web.xml entry for an existing Servlet or create it from scratch (via template). If you copy the Servlet into the project, you can still to file->new->Servlet and pick the class. The dialog will prompt for any non-default changes to web.xml.
    2. Annotate Servlet To Reference the first EJB
    It's true that EJB3 doesn't require descriptors, but the version of WTP in the product today requires a descriptor to be there. As long as it's the 3.0 version,
    you can leave it empty and proceed to do all your development with annotations, WTP will be happy.

  • Persistence shared across EJB and WAR projects

    Hi,
    I have created an Enteprise Application in netbeans which has an EJB project and a web archive. This may be expanded further at a later time by having an application client as well. I am still fairly new to this so you'll have to forgive me if this is a simple problem. I have a persistence unit (persistence.xml) that I need to share across both WAR and EJB, but so far am not having much luck. I have read various responses and they say I should have the EAR constructed as the following:
    project.ear
    =======
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    lib/persistence.jar
    ---> META-INF
    ---> META-INF/persistence.xml
    project-ejb.jar
    project-war.war
    When I try and compile it though I get the following messages from both EE modules:
    Note: The persistence xml file [META-INF/persistence.xml] was not found. NO GENERATION will occur!! Please ensure a persistence xml file is available either from the CLASS_OUTPUT directory [META-INF/persistence.xml] or using the eclipselink.persistencexml property to specify its location.
    I have tried copying the persistence.xml into the main META-INF directory in the EAR file and setting the eclipselink.persistencexml=META-INF/persistence.xml, but it still shows the same thing. Is this a classpath issue or is there something else wrong?
    Many thanks

    The EAR is a good idea, but you put the META-INF/persistence.xml in your ejb module. The EJB is where you want to do all your (container managed) transactional stuff, so make calls into your EJBs from the WAR in stead of trying to share a persistence unit across modules.

  • Designing DCs project and EJB- What is the right thing to do?

    Hi:
    I have a big doubt about designing DCs project and EJB:
    My presentation layer is WD and I'm going to use EJB Session and Hibernate to persist data. So I'm not complete sure how to model it at project level (I'm new on DCs projects):
    1- Did I have to make a DC project with a EJB Module project, other DC for Enterprise Aplication Project and other DC for a Web Module Project ?, if it so...must be one father and the others childs?
    2- Can I use only a DC-EJB Module and consume the project in my DC-WD? (I think that this is the right one but my project don't generate a deployable file....so begin wandering if the choice 1 is necessary....or something is missing... I expect a sda if not a default ear or war)
    3- Other (any idea?)
    I can't find any tutorial or good practice about it.
    Thanks a lot for your time on this thread.

  • EJB project IDE build dos not include properties files

    We have property files also which we want included as part of the build process
    for EJB projects but if we use the IDE build it does not include them. We have
    to therefore export the IDE build and customize it to include *.properties like
    this
    <zip basedir="${dest.path}" zipfile="${ejb.outputJar}" encoding="UTF8"> <!-- JARs
    filenames are encoded UTF8 --> <zipfileset dir="${project.local.directory}" includes="*.properties"
    /> </zip>
    which causes a problem for us because the exported build file is specific to a
    user's local PC and cannot be used in a team environment.
    How can we have the IDE build include all the files within an EJB project i.e.
    include properties files also.

    Hey Jamie,
    Currently there is no support to include other .properties files into
    the internal build. There's a build.properties that you get as part of
    an EJB project which you could place your values into and use that as
    your template for your team based development and check that into your
    source control.
    If you'd really like to get gross and hack Workshop a little bit you
    could modify the default EJB project template to use your .properties
    file for every EJB project you create. This would then splat a copy of
    your .properties file into the root of the EJB project.
    To do that you'd go to {your BEAHOME}\workshop\templates and crack open
    the ejb-project.zip template zip file and merge your settings into the
    existing build.properties file. This has the same
    effect as replacing the .properties file after you've created your
    project only it keeps you from having to perform that step each time.
    The downside of this is that each person on your team would then have to
    update that template zip file in their workshop installation. (I'd make
    sure to backup the original template file before performing this
    activity so you can always go back to the original template).
    Hope this helps,
    -Michael

  • JPA facet in EJB project

    Hi!
    Trying to develop ejb 3 project. No problem creating ejb3 session beans.
    But I'm not able to enable JPA facet in ejb project. Only supported in web project.
    Can this be true? Is support for EJB 3/JPA still lacking even in 10.3 version?
    Very disapointing....
    Regards,
    Jesper

    To clarify...
    There is no support for JPA in EJB projects in Workshop. Workshop JPA tools can only be used in web projects.
    Base Eclipse, however, comes with a different set of JPA tools that can be used with EJB or Utility projects. Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) works with this JPA toolset (unlike Workshop). Version 1.0 of OEPE is already available (see link that Danny provided). The next version of OEPE (available in Q1 of 2009) will include additional JPA functionality that is even better than similar functionality currently available in Workshop. All of the new JPA functionality coming in the next OEPE release will be supported for Web, EJB and Utility projects.
    Hope this helps.

  • ANT and JUnit in weblogic

    Hi.
    I see that the problem with ant and junit is discussed here, but with no absolutte solution.
    The problem:
    I create an build.xml containing the <junit>-task and want to run this from within the BEA Workshop. The standard error-message is that it cant find the junit-task. I can run the same build file from command since I got ANT set up correctly with JUnit outside Weblogic.
    It sems for me that Workshop dont care about existing installation of ANT, it uses it own version. I have included junit.jar in the same direstory as ant.jar is in BEA-install-dir also, but it wont work.
    Does anyone have a solution to this "small" problem??
    Thanks in advance.

    I haven't figured out why, but my JDeveloper automatically adds the classpath I have in my ant build.xml to the additional classpath of the project. My classpath is set like this in the build.xml:<path id="classpath">
    <fileset dir="env/lib">
          <include name="**/*.jar"/>
        </fileset>
    </path>And my compile target looks like this:<target name="compile" depends="init">
        <mkdir dir="${compile.outdir}"/>
        <!--Compile Java source files-->
        <javac destdir="${compile.outdir}" debug="on">
           <classpath refid="classpath"/>
           <src refid="srcpath"/>
        </javac>
      </target>And my Jdev project settings -> common -> ant has my build.xml file selected with default make and rebuild targets selected. I have never put a single entry in the additional classpath area but somehow I have all the libs as I set up in my build.xml file. I'm using JDev 9.0.3.2 by the way.

  • Differences b/w Oracle Workshop WebLogic and Oracle Eclipse Enterprise Pack

    What are the differences between the Oracle Workshop Studio for WebLogic and the Oracle Eclipse Enterprise Pack

    While both OEPE and Workshop are Eclipse-based IDEs, they are in fact separate products with some similarities
    Both products provide tooling for webapp and Java EE development for Weblogic Server but OEPE is Oracle's strategic Eclipse-based solution and new features are released as OEPE plugins. One goal for OEPE is to cover and eventually exceed Workshop's feature set. You can start to see that today in OEPE 11g's JPA, Spring, and Weblogic Server. For example, JPA support in OEPE 11g is available on more project types, like EJB and Utility Projects, and has better Entity source code completion and validation against the schema. OEPE's Weblogic Server support includes new graphical editors for the common deployment descriptors, like weblogic.xml, which simplifies adding new content, validation, and accessing context sensitive help.
    Also, with OEPE we are more active in the Eclipse community with participation in WTP projects like JSF Tools and Dali. In fact, in Eclipse 3.5 the new JPA Entity generation wizards were originally developed as part of OEPE 11g and contributed to WTP.
    Finally, if you need support for the latest Eclipse, OEPE's frequent release schedule keeps us supporting new Eclipse versions much faster than we were able to with Workshop.
    If you are debating between OEPE and Workshop for new projects, I would definitely recommend that you give OEPE a try.
    Thanks,
    Greg
