WRAP ON in JTextPane PROBLEM!

I know that are a lot of topics about this wrap on/off in JTextPane. The problem is that I've tried a lot of them and doesn't satisfy my issue.
I load a html text from somewhere. And I set the JTextPane with that text. This text have around 3000 character without any \n (new line). The JTextPane put this text on one line. I want the JTextPane to wrap the text so I can have on each line a number of chars. How can I do it?
JTextPane content type is html/text.
JTextPane belongs to a JPane in CENTER (JPane layout is BorderLayout)
this JPane belongs to a JSrollPane
I'm using this method to setup the text for JTextPane:
editorPanel.setText(currDocText); // where currDocText is String variable
Please help! I'm about to 'kill' my keyboard.. :-)
10x in advance
god help you to find a solution for my problem..

Try using a JTextArea? It does wrapping.

  • How to detect the line wrap event of JTextPane?

    Hi all,
    I'd like to detect the line wrapping event of JTextPane, so as to adjust the visible rows of JTextPane. How could I do this? Thanks!
    Yi Bing

    there is no wrap event.
    Wrap happens during relayout. The event which invokes relayout could be different. E.g. change size or chane model (document).
    Just add document listener and componnet listener.

  • Word wrapping incorrect inside JTextPane on MAC 0.5/10.4 and Linux OS

    Hello java-dev team,
    In my application, I am using JTextPane as a text editor to create RTF text. The problem I observed with the JTextPane on MAC OS and Linux OS flavors (I tested on Ubuntu 8.04) is: whenever I am changing any of the text property (font color, font name, font style like bold, italic or underline) and then enter the characters without providing space, the whole word gets wrapped to the next line from the point where exactly the property change starts i.e. the new formatted text is jumped to the next line from the starting point of formatting.
    My requirement is, as I am not adding any space character while changing the property, the characters should be entered in the sequence and should come to new line as per normal word-wrap rule.
    Can anybody help me out in this regards with some solution as it’s a very urgent requirement?
    Below I am also providing the sample code to check the behavior. There is no dynamic facility to change the property in the below code but I am providing the text with multiple formatting settings through code itself. To reproduce the above issue, just type the characters using keyboard in between characters with changed text properties and you can see the whole word jumping to new line.

  • JTextPane: Problem adding hyperlinks & images

    Hi,
    I have a problem and I just can't figure out how to solve it.
    I need to implement a simple Editor for HTML files. Lucky for me, most of the functionality i need is already provided by swing, but i still need to add images and hyperlinks to my document. Especially, i need to be able to select some text, click on a button and turn it into a hyperlink. If an image is within the selected range, then the image should be included in the hyperlink as well (just as you would expect it to be).
    Adding images works so far, using this code (i'll take care of actually loading the image when the rest works).
    JEditorPane editor = getEditor( e );
    HTMLDocument doc = (HTMLDocument) getStyledDocument( editor );
    MutableAttributeSet attr = new SimpleAttributeSet();
    attr.addAttribute( StyleConstants.NameAttribute, HTML.Tag.IMG );
    attr.addAttribute( HTML.Attribute.SRC, "p.gif" );
    try {
         doc.insertString( editor.getCaretPosition(), " ", attr );
    } catch (BadLocationException e1) {
         e1.printStackTrace();
    }But when i try to do the same with HTML.Tag.A and HTML.Attribute.HREF, the selected text disappears from the code (it is still visible in the JTextPane, though) and is replaced by . I just don't seem to get the whole AttributeSet mechanism or which attributes need to be set to which values.
    I have seriously been stuck on this stuff for over one day now, and went through half a million tutorials, but can't figure it out - and i can't imagine that it is that complicated to do something like that.
    By the way, I don't care whether or not you can click on the link in the JTextPane. The whole application is just for editing purposes and the document's content will be uploaded to a webserver at a later point.
    I hope there's somebody who can help me out here.
    Thanks in advance,

    Doesn't anyone have a hint for me here?

  • JTextPane Problem on MacOs 10.2+

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem using JtextPane on MacOsX with JVM 1.4x installed.
    All worked good on MacOs X with ONLY jvm 1.3.x installed. If also jvm 1.4.x is installed then the problem I'm reporting appears, whether runs on 1.3.x or 1.4.x (using the JVMVersion key on related Info.plist files to switch between versions).
    I have more than one JTextPane on a JPanel. Each JTextPane has its own MouseListener with a mousePressed handler. This handler simply displays a JOptionPane with another JTextPane. Clicking on OK or on CANCEL the JOptionPane disappears.
    Running the program, when I click on a JTextPane, the JOptionPane correctly appears. Clicking on OK/Cancel it correctly disappears. The problem begins now: clicking on any point in the program window (therefore not only in the JTextPane) the JOptionPane appears, and no other action is possible (you can only close the program by clicking on X-button).
    Is this behaviour a known bug?
    I don't know where to start for fixing this bug!!!!

    Hi all,
    It works now!
    The only thing is that I reinstalled jdk.
    In fact, I had jdk on my machine and I removed it a time ago before installing Oracle. I reinstalled it without any modification to environment variables and isqlplus works.
    But I am surprised because AFAIK, Oracle installs its own jdk. so what could it be?

  • Putting an image into a jtextpane / problems with ImageIcon and path

    So here is what I am trying to do. I would like to be able to allow the user to add images to a jtextpane which will also contain rtf text.
    My current plan is to have a drag event or some other event run the actual code to place the image in the jtextpane. So my first attempt was just to first write a test program to add an image to a textpane using a hard coded path. The problem is i cant seem to create an imageicon using a canonical path because the image icon constructor wants a relative path(from the docs).
    So i guess the best solution would be to convert the canonical path to a relative path. I have this forum and google many times and found many similar posts but none with a real solution (people just reply, why would you want to do that etc.).
    So i either need to convert the path or if any one has a better suggestion to allow users to add images to the jtextpane. Any suggestions?

    show the path you are trying to use.

    and try this
    URL url = getClass().getResource(pathName);
    ImageIcon(url);

  • Problems with JTextPane line wrapping

    Hi to all.
    I'm using a code like this to make editable a figure that I paint with Java 2D. This JTextPane don't has a static size and for that, the text in it cannot be seen affected by the natural line wrap of the JTextPane component. The problem is that I have to set a maximun size for the JTextPane and I want to use the line wrap only when the width of the JTextPane be the maximun width. How can I do this?

    I'm working hard about that and I can't find the perfect implementation of this. This is exactly what I want to do:
    1. I have a Ellipse2D element painted into a JPanel.
    2. This ellipse is painted like a circle.
    3. Into the circle there's a text area, that user use to name the cicle.
    4. The text area is a JTextPane.
    5. When the user insert a text area, it can increase it size, but it can't be bigger than the circle that it contains.
    6. There is a maximun and a minimun size for the circle.
    7. When the user write into de JTextPane, it grows until arriving at the limit.
    8. When the JTextPane has the width size limit, if the user writes more text into it, the JTextPane write it into another line.
    9. The size of the JTextPane has to be the optimun size, it cannot have empty rows or empty lines.
    This code does all this except 9, cause if the user remove some text of the text area, the form of the JTextPane changes to a incorrect size.
    public class ExampleFrame extends JFrame {
        ExamplePane _panel;
        public ExampleFrame() {
            this.setSize(600, 600);
            this.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);

  • JTextPane always word wrapping

    I'm having problems convincing a JTextPane not to word wrap. My JTextPane is contained in a JScrollPane. I've looked and found out how to turn off word wrap in a JTextArea, and applied suggestions about turning horizontal scrollbars on, but it doesn't work. My JTextPane keeps wrapping text regardless of what I do to it. It seems to me that, since the JTextPane is more "sophisticated" than a JTextArea, I should be able to do this. Any suggestions?
    Matt

    Hi,
    overwrite the following method in your JTextPane-subclass
    public boolean getScrollableTracksViewportWidth() { return false;  }this works, if you use the scrollbar-policies below - I use that in a mud-client, returning false if I want it not to wrap and returning true, if I want it to wrap.
    I use the following on the JScrollPane, the JTextPane is in (assuming sp is your JScrollPane)
    sp.setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS);
    sp.setHorizontalScrollBarPolicy(JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED);Hope, this helps

  • Line wrapping - JTextPane

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to disable line wrapping in a JTextPane?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    there 2 ways of achieving it.
    1. Instead of adding the editorpane to the JScrollPane, add the JEditorPane to a JPanel(BorderLayout->CENTER) and then the JPanel to the JScrollPane. Then you can avoid the said problem
    2. JEditorPane ta= new JEditorPane(){
    public boolean getScrollableTracksViewportWidth(){
    return false;
    use this to create ur JEditorpane.
    But the problem here is that your JEditorpane width is dynamic depending on ur text size.
    so when you add it to the JScrollPane you will not c it fitting exactly into the scrollpane width.
    hope it helps.

  • Word wrap with JTextPane

    Ok, at the risk of sounding stupid: How do you turn off the word wrap on a JTextPane.
    Thanks in advance, Ed

    ...and I forgot setSize public class NonScrollingPane extends JTextPane {
      public NonScrollingPane() {
        super();
      public boolean getScrollableTracksViewportWidth() {
        return false;
      public void setSize(Dimension d) {
        if(d.width < getParent().getSize().width) {
          d.width = getParent().getSize().width;
        super.setSize(d);
    }Ulrich

  • Preventing word wrapping in JTextpane

    I'm stumped about preventing word wrapping in a JTextpane. Any suggestions?

    Word wrapping occurs when the text hits the "edge" of the JTextPane, as (ordinarily) defined by the parent component of the JTextPane. But if you view the JTextPane in a JScrollPane, the edge is defined by the JTextPane itself rather than the parent component. So if the JTextPane is wide enough, the text will not wrap (you may or may not need to call setSize on the JTextPane). You can turn off the horizontal scrollbar if you like, using JScrollPane.setHorizontalScrollBarPolicy(HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER), which would cause any text wider than the JScrollPane parent to simply be clipped off.
    A code sample is usually available at http://www.radecke.ch/exscrolltextpane.htm (the site appears to be down at the moment).

  • JTextPane

    How can I disable the word wrap in a JTextPane?

    hmm i don't know if thats possible...
    i was looking on the web actually and i ran across this:
    http://skunkdav.sourceforge.net/doc/org/skunk/swing/text/TextEditorPane.html
    i think someone recognized this problem and created a new package which you can download, which will do this.
    other than that i can't think of anything.....i read somewhere that you can only do it by changing the JScrollPane the JTextPane is inside of, like minimizing the vertical scrollpane.
    --good luck!

  • Text Wrap doesn't like 1.5mm but anything else is fine

    I have a JPG image containing an enabled clipping path placed on a page. A text frame overlaps one side and the text wraps nicely around the edge of the clipping path (selected in the Contour Options) with a 1mm outset entered in the Text Wrap palette.
    However, if I increase the outset to 1.5mm, the text stops wrapping altogether: it just runs across the picture as if I had switched Text Wrap off. Any other measurement is fine: 2mm is just great, as is 0mm, 1mm, 3mm, and so on. But at 1.5mm, I get no wrap at all.
    I can get around this by switching Contour Options from Same As Clipping Path to Detect Edges, whereupon the 1.5mm outset works as it should. So no real harm done, but does anyone else think this is odd behaviour?
    - Alistair

    There are several other cut-out pictures on the same page, all with 1.5mm outset Text Wraps that cause no problem. We have removed the offending picture, resaved it in Photoshop, replaced it on the page, etc but it does the same thing.
    Unfortunately, it's an InDesign CS2 layout so it won't be appropriate to file a bug report. Exporting to INX will be troublesome because the page and its slot in the plan is controlled by a CMS (i.e. exporting is no problem but getting it back in again and reconnecting all the broken CMS links while everyone's on deadline might be). I'd love to post the files here but my newspaper publisher customer wouldn't like it.
    Thank you for your suggestions.

  • [Solved]Conky and word wrapping - Is there a way?

    So I have a very limited area to work with, something like 176x360 (+/- a few pixels), and I want the ability to show an RSS feed. Well, the feed works of course, but due to the limited width, I'm in great need of word wrapping, and for that problem I have found no solution and going on for 2-3 hours straight, my head hurts
    Anyway, here's my .conkyrc, not that it's needed of course.
    # ~/.conkyrc

    ${rss http://www.archlinux.org/feeds/news/ 1 item_titles 10 }
    I know this looks confusing and probably is full of critical error, but that simple because I'm a conky noob. I basically just downloaded a profile I liked and completely changed it over the course of a few hours.
    Anyway, I'm rambling again, but if you've got any idea's, please do let me know.
    Best regards.

    Okay, so I've found sort of a solution to part of the problem, so what I have so far look like this:
    wget -quiet -O - archlinux.org/feeds/news/ | fmt -w 25 -g 25
    It works as long as there are no words longer than 25 character, which I should think is rare, even including package names and such.
    However there's still the issue parsing the xml so I get only what I want:
    <item><title>$content</title><link>
    This may be solved using some sort of terminal rss parser, but I would rather prefer not to.
    Then there's the issue with reloading.
    My current conky is set to reload every second, but of course one can't just pull the feed every second and I'm not convinced that conky has any built in solution for that problem. Of course I can always start a cronjob and save it all to a file, but portability would be nice.
    anyway, I'll return later.
