Write among COM ports in the same PC without cables
How can I write to the memory address(es) of a serial COM port? I would like to send data from one serial COM port to another in a manner similar to the that of the 'Simple Data Client' and 'Simple Data Server' vi examples. This must sound strange since this is exactly what a null modem cable will do, externally. I would like to eliminate the cable connection between COM ports that exsit in the same PC and communicate between them, internal to the PC, somehow.
Currently, I am using a LabVIEW vi to read a serial message on COM1, translate it, send the trsanslation out on COM2, so that a separate windows program (no .DLLs to interface with LabVIEW) can read the message on COM 3. COM 2 and COM 3 are connected by a null-modem cable. This requires three COM ports, and two serial cables. I realize that I can use a physical loop-back jumper on COM2, for instance, where I send and read the translated message on COM2, but I still wonder if there is a method for doing this in memory, or something. Is there a way to accomplish the same objective with one cable (into COM1), no loop-back jumpers, and only two serial ports? In summary, I want to read on COM 1, translate in LabVIEW, then write directly to another COM port, internally, without using a serial cable. Can the 'IN PORT' or 'OUT PORT' vi's apply here? Are these tools only for parallel ports?
Hope this is not too confusing.... It seems like I am always trying to do something with LabVIEW that was not meant to be done....

Thank you. If I pay the price they ask, this looks like it will create and share virtual COM ports - exactly what I need. However, I would really like to find a way to do this in LabVIEW, such that I do not have to make my application dependent on another piece of third party software. The 'Simple Data Client.vi' and 'Simple Data Server.vi', included in the shipset examples, seem to do this for TCP/ IP ports. I wonder why the COM ports cannot be addressed at the memory level, in a similar manner???

I need to write to the digital port and the serial port at the same time. Right now I have the two vi's (to write to the serial port, write to the digital port) in the sequence structure. First I write the digital port, then write the serial port. Using the oscilloscope, the interval between these two executions is 10 ms; and I need to reduce this interval to as small as possible. This is a little tricky. Since the transition from one sequence to another is completely Software timed, and windows manages all tasks that are running at one given time, there isn't a method to reduce that transition time.
The most you can do is try to optimize your code so all the time expent on the transition is due only to the task management.

OHS not able to redirect to two different ports of the same managed server
Hi
I need to redirect to different ports of the same managed server (say M1, M2) based on the availability of the managed server. ie when managed server M1 is busy handling other requests i need to redirect my new request to M2. i already have this mechanism to find out which managed server is free.
so now the problem is if M2 is free how would i tell ohs to redirect it to M2 server??
M1,M2 both managed servers are hosted at host1.example.com.
M1 port - 8001
M2 port - 8003
my context root is /YpsSupplyPlanningEngineService/supplyPlanningEngineService

I'm building a test Lync deployment on Azure; yes, I know this is not supported, hence "test".
Lync Front-End servers expose two set of web services, one for internal users and one for external ones; they listen on different ports (443 and 4443) on the same servers; when external services are published, you need a reverse proxy or a port forwarding
in order to map port 443 of a public IP address to port 4443 of the Front-End server(s). When you have multiple Front-End servers in a pool, you also need to load-balance them.
So, a typical Lync deployment looks like this:

This should be easily replicated in Azure, as it supports both external load balancing and internal load balancing. They are even supported together in the same cloud service, so this configuration should be easy. However, it looks like "should"
is the keyword here.
After creating the external load balanced endpoint (which listens on external port 443 and forwards to port 4443 on the servers), I'm trying to create an internal load balancer and add internal endpoints to is; however, while the ILB can be created successfully,
adding an internal endpoint listening on port 443 and forwarding to port 443 on the servers fails miserably, with an error stating that port 443 is already in use by another endpoint:
Update-AzureVM : BadRequest : Port 443 is already in use by one of the endpoints in this deployment. Ensure that the port numbers are unique across endpoints within a deployment.
For reference, my commands are:

The error doesn't even make a lot of sense; the external load balancer listens on a public IP address, while the internal load balancer listens on a private IP address in the internal network; there
shouldn't be any conflict here... however it looks like there is one instead.

The issue that you are facing when creating an endpoint with internal loadbalancer is the limitation of not allowing same ports to be listening under a single cloud service. This reason for this is that there is a limitation of only one private IP (Also
known as the Internal load balanced IP) per cloud service.

That's not true. WebLogic supports a non-secure and secure listener port at the
same time. That was one of the selling points for my organization.

The two bits of the program will talk to each instrument successfully if the other part of the program is not running. i do not need them to communicte with both serial ports at the exact same time, just within the same program, one after the other. i am using labview 6. any ideas of what i could be doing wrong?

If you are using the Legacy serial VIs, you should really switch to the VISA VIs. Also make sure you are opening a session to each of the com ports at the beginning of the program and closing each at the end of the program. Problems can arise if your try to open a session to a port that already has a session open. Also you should update LabVIEW to 6.0.2
If you are still having problems post the error code and error message you are getting.

then another 5 like the above 5 only the ip address would be differnt.

Reading the same port on the same machine

i'm working on DatagramSocket to broadcast DatagramPacket (IP 192.168.xxx.255) and a fixed num port. The problem is that I can't have 2 threads that read (datagramSocket.read) on the same port, on the same machine.
How can I perform my tests ?

Basically, when an application requests a port number, it basically owns that port number until it gives it up. You do this when you create the DatagramSocket. Each DatagramSocket is its own request, and therefore must have an unique identifying port. Otherwise, how would your operating system know who to give the data to when it receives a packet on your machine for port XXXX? Also, it would be a secuirity problem if other applications could listen on the same port as you use for other things like surfing the web, making online purchases, email.
However, what you could do is have one owner of the DatagramSocket... and share it among the other threads. When that owner receives a packet, it can notify the other threads it received a packet and pass the data to each one. Set it up something like how listeners work. Also, if you want it to span processes, you could use RMI or pass the data through other deined network connections between the processes.
Does that make sense? :) -

Hyperterminal adds the carriage return/line feed to the string which is
generated by the return key to send out the current line. LabVIEW simply
sends out what you tell it, so try to set the string to "Show \ Display"
format and add a \r or \n or \r\n to the command you want to send out.
Assumes of course that you set the right baudr
ate/bits/parity etc in
LabVIEW with the VISA property node, when opening the serial port.

Why Target Display Mode exclusive to the iMac? Shouldn't any Mac from 2009 with the correct ports have the same option? Is there a physical limitation that prevents MacBook Pro/Air notebooks with thunderbolt ports from entering Target Display Mode? Or does someone just need to poke the OSX development team with a stick?
that was the route I took this time when I updated to 10.5.6 - the downloaded combo updater rather than the smaller (half the size) Mac updater...
Pretty sure this is a combination of MTU, 2Wire 2701 oddities and me not knowing how to solve them directly (as well as the ipv6 stuff that's still showing in the logs despite IPv6 being turned off).
Anyhow, I did get it connected under the Ambit finally (took restarting the mac, not expecting that in the "switch" from windows xp)- and that really rocked. Now I'm working on teaching my 2Wire to be a dumb modem, to go with the operator

Cannot Add Logic Switch To host When Teaming two 10Gbe ports on the same CNA or on different CNAs
We are trying to set up a new Hyper-V environment for a customer with VMM2012 SP1. We have the hosts configured, imported, and clustered. The Uplink Port-Profile is set to the proper LACP teaming method for our switching. The Logical switch
is created in uplink mode Team and includes the proper Uplink Port Profile.
When we go to create a logical switch on the Hosts using the two interfaces to be teamed, we get Warning (25259), Error while applying physical adapter network settings to the teamed adapter. Error code details 2147942484.
I reasearched and found articles about setting up NICs in a correct order in the team from least capable to most capable, but in this case we are trying to team two ports on the same adapter... We have tried with Intel X520-2's and Brocade CNA1020's. The
odd thing is, if we try to do it on the onboard 1Gbe Broadcom cards, it works fine.
This happens on both clustered and non-clustered hosts as well. All VMM components are the latest versions with the latest updates.

When we go to create a logical switch on the Hosts using the two interfaces to be teamed, we get Warning (25259), Error while applying physical adapter network settings to the teamed adapter. Error code details 2147942484.
I reasearched and found articles about setting up NICs in a correct order in the team from least capable to most capable, but in this case we are trying to team two ports on the same adapter... We have tried with Intel X520-2's and Brocade CNA1020's. The
odd thing is, if we try to do it on the onboard 1Gbe Broadcom cards, it works fine.
This happens on both clustered and non-clustered hosts as well. All VMM components are the latest versions with the latest updates.

can I have the ipad2 on wifi and the AppleTV on a wired port of the same router in order to use airplay?
I belive you can, I think my friends Apple TV is connected to their internet via an Ethernet cable, and we use Airplay sometimes using our iPads that are connected to the same network via WiFi. It should work as long as they are both connected to the same network. However, I don't have an Apple TV of my own, so don't take this as a solid answer.

I'm working on a project, I need to collect the data from laptop sound card, and also from serial port at the same time.
The attachments are my VIs for sound card and serial port communication, I'm wondering that can I combine these two VIs together? Or can I run these two VI at the same time?

Borders not printing accurately in Custom Package
Hi There, This is a simple yet tricky problem, for me at least. I am setting a border of 25px (or whatever) in Custom Package and the image 'shrinks' on screen as the border is applied - which looks right. However when it prints, the border actually
