Write Back - Change size of displayed textbox

Hi
I'm using write back in OBIEE 10. As I know we can define the size of the input box in means that no one is able to add more text than allowed. But even if I allow 2000 characters the text box is shown as a single line input box.
Is there a possibility to change the size of the displayed text box especially to allow more than a single line?

Hey,
You will somehow need to hack the OBI CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) when the the writeback (table view) is present so that instead of a textbox HTML element, it displays a TEXTAREA HTML element. There is currently no other way to achieve this.

Write Back field size

Hi,
I created a table with a write back field. I have set up everything according to the guide, tested it and it all works. Data is written back to the database.
When I select from the write back field the Column Properties -> Column Format -> Value interaction -> Field Size you can set the field length. My question is....is it also possible to set the height of the field?
One of our customers wants to use this as a field to enter remarks and follow up actions. So I actually want a square field, so the text entered in it is more readable on the screen.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply. It's been a while ago since i posted this question, but this write back feature is now actual for a customer. In the beginning it didn't seem that necessary, but now it is.
I have tried to modify my writeback template, but i cannot manage to make it work. Or do I have to make another custom xml message? Do you maybe have a suggestion on which way to handle this?

When I change size of icons or icon vs list display, why does it affect the whole computer?

When I change size of icons, or icon vs list display, why does it affect the whole computer? In some folders I want to see a list and others I want to see an icon and I don't need a large icon in all folders. I used to be able to set each folder separately in the old OS. How do I fix this?

I can hilight an item, go to the finder/file/getinfo but there is no box next to icon view.
I can go to view/options and adjust the icon size etc, but this applies to every folder in the whole computer. I need varied options in different folders, i.e., I want to view images as icons and text as text. I have to change it every time I open a folder. I used to be able to set it per folder in the old OS.

The "apply" button didn't display when I was using the "write back" option

I followed the "System Administrator's Guide" to configure the write back function, unfortunately,

Just to check, did yiou restart the presentation services after placing the xml file?
Is the template name in answers "SetKPIValue" consistent with the .xml file as you mentioned?
Now, if you could try by putting a hard coded value in the update statement as well.
Also, is the location where the .xml file is kept is,

Macbook Pros display blinks to blue, icons change size, resolution changes and cant reset. Anyone else have this and have a definitive idea of the cause? End up running diagnostics and resetting PRAM and SMC to resolve but why? Thanks.

We have had several (7-10 recently) macbook Pros start this issue. The screen will jump from regular to blue, the background image will go away and it will be replaced with a blue screen, the icons change size and the screen resolution changes. Someimtes the users name field on the login screen will fly in from off screen... run diagnostics (AppleJack, Disk Util) and reset PRAM and SMC and sometimes this helps but wanted to know if there was a definite reason for this or a better resolution to the problem?

AppleJack has been discontinued, so you should uninstall that.
I'm suspecting something in software across all machine or a security breach as the primary cause of your problems.
Wipe and install everything fresh, firmware update the router, change passwords, new software form original sources, etc.

I already have a watch to tell the time. How can I change the nano display so that the pace numbers are the largest? Likewise, it would be good to get feedback on pace at km intervals as in a race.

I'll be honest, I doubt it. I agree, they are extremely small!
The only thing I can suggest is assigning short cut keystrokes to your favourite symbols.

OBI11g: Write Back INSERT is not working

Can anyone help me in providing the solution for Insert in writeBack For OBIEE11g.
We are able to do a successful writeback for UPDATE.

I think I faced similar issue and just found solution:
There are 2 statements defined in xml file: <insert> and <update>. Insert is executed only when edited table row have initially null in all columns. So you need a dummy row in destination database table with e.g. ID=0 and all column values = null.
Dummy row is displayed in Analytics as a regular row but of course with empty column values. When you enter values into this row and apply changes, OBIEE will know to execute insert statement. In my case I generated ID for a new row from sequence: <insert>insert into Table1 (col_val1,col_val2,col3_id) values('@{cfe7691ea163b9e61}', '@{c8a3421607b213f07}', db_sequence.nextval)</insert>
This way your dummy row with ID=0 will be never updated by OBIEE and will let you insert new rows to db table.

create a window with same margins as your table display window(main) add template with the same measurements as the table ......and specifi some height.
so that the window will be exact on the main window with the template on it ....you can observe the difference in display of smartform...by chanign the ht of the template....
and for the center display of the table values create a paragraph format and apply with center alignement.

Write Back only works when a columns is updated.

Hi,
We have Write Back enabled in one of our request. The request is simple, we just have 3 columns (AV_MONTH, a hidden column with the User() name function, and APPR1_NAME). We display only current month (then only 1 row). The user does not update any value in any column. He just click on the button and the xml executes the statement below to update the appr1_name column with the User() value for the corresponding month.

This has been working fine in in BI 10.1.3.4 (Build 080726.1900) but now we're migrating this to 10.1.3.4.1 (Build 100319.0954) and it has stopped working.
The xml is executing the update statement only if we update the hidden column.
For example, In My request I see
Feb-2014 | John. Doe | <blank>
The first column is the month in the table.
Second column is the function User(). This is the name of the user logged in that we're using to update the username(APPR1_name) in the table
and the last column is black since we have not updated the user name in the table yet.
If I click the button the update statement in the xml is not executed.
But if I change John.Doe by John.Do then the xml detects the column was updated and then it executes the update statement.
The issue is that the user is not supposed to update any column.
Please any help will be appreciated. Also, is there any log file for Write Back?

Is it an Apple Bluetooth keyboard? You've no doubt checked the batteries are OK, although they shouldn't have gone flat in a few days.
You could try re-pairing it to see if it sticks, and you may want to make it a favourite, which helped when my Magic Mouse kept losing the BT connection.
Using the wired keyboard delete the BT keyboard from BT Preferences. Pair it again and when it's (hopefully) connected from the BT prefs window bottom left, click on the 'cog' and select 'Show more options'. You should then get the opportunity to make it a favourite. Disconnect the wired keyboard and fingers-crossed.

How to change size memory for an application under Classic ?

When I ask informations on my OS 9 application under OS X.4.4, I can no more change size memory ! I can no more use my application with Classic... ???

ROYCH: This is partly guesswork, but I think it may explain why your problem occurs.
When OS X is controlling your computer (as it always does on a Mini), the file Type and Creator attributes that OS 9 uses to identify different kinds of files are not used. OS X ignores them in files that have them. Files that are only used by OS X don't have them at all. When you create a new application in Classic mode under OS X, those attributes may not be assigned to it, so the new application may not have any.
But if you copy the new application to a computer running OS 9, and those attributes are missing, the OS 9 computer will have no idea what sort of file it is. OS 9 won't even know it's an application. To prevent that, I'm guessing that OS X somehow builds clues into the file that enable OS 9 to identify it as an application, and to give it the Type attribute APPL. I believe any file in OS 9 that has that Type attribute will display the Memory menu item in its Get Info window — not only in OS 9, but in OS X. So after you copy your compiled application onto a computer running OS 9 and then back onto your Mini, it has the APPL attribute, and the Memory item is available in its Get Info box.
I have one application, File Buddy, that can (among many other abilities) display and edit the OS 9 Type and Creator attributes of any file while running in OS X. It can be used to assign specific Type and Creator attributes to a file that has none. You could use it to assign the appropriate Type and Creator attributes to your compiled applications while you are running OS X. After you do so, maybe they will display the Memory menu item in their OS X Get Info boxes.
If this works, File Buddy can apply the same changes in Type and Creator to a whole folder full of files at once. That would be an easy way for you to accomplish the same thing for several compiled applications instantly, without having to copy them to a computer running OS 9.
I don't create applications, so I can't test this procedure to see whether it works. I will be interested to hear what happens if you experiment with File Buddy.
But after saying all this, I really have no idea whether the message you're seeing about insufficient memory is meaningful or spurious. You may go through the whole rigmarole of changing the memory allocation for your compiled applications, only to find that doing so still doesn't enable you to open them. I'll be interested to hear whether that's true, too. Good luck.

Can you limit write-behind batch sizes to a set number in Coherence 3.5?

I'm currently running Coherence 3.5.3p9 on Windows.
The cache store is set up to use the write-behind scheme via the read-write-backing-map-scheme tag.
Batching is enabled with a write-delay of 5s.
My understanding is that essentially anything that was newly inserted into the cache more than 5 seconds ago becomes eligable for storage.
Our application goes through a bit of a peak-trough cycle. Sometimes very little data is inserted all at once and sometimes a lot is. This results in quite varying batch sizes and big batch sizes do cause issues on our db from time to time.
I can decrease the write-delay to 1s in the hope that this will in turn decrease the batch sizes, but is there a way to set a specific number e.g. I only ever want to write 20 in a batch?

you can just break down that big batch into smaller batches (DB transactions) yourself, and you can also decide that you don't want to write more at the moment.
If you throw an exception Coherence will retry whatever is in the parameter map passed to storeAll and parameter collection to eraseAll. But it does not have to be the full list, it is expected that you remove those entries/elements which you have successfully persisted.
This way you can control the rate of writing yourself. Also, since the write-behind thread does not block event processing, therefore you are sort of safe to do longer waits in those methods if you want to somewhat space out resource transactions without returning from storeAll.
To answer your question:
You can either
- do a physical transaction of 20 elements, remove those 20 elements from the map, then optionally wait and then continue with more elements from the map as long as there are any (this gives you the chance of controlling the rate of transactions).
- send a physical transaction of at most 20 elements to the database, remove those 20 elements from the map and then throw a dummy exception (in which case Coherence requeues the rest... take care, after this they are considered freshly changed entries).

I click on a link or start typing text in a box on a webpage, any page, and the browser window either randomly changes size, reduces & goes to the toolbar, or some other strange random thing occurs. Why is this?

Whenever I am using Firefox, when I am on a webpage (any webpage) & I either click on a link in that page, start typing in a box, click on a button, or click on a tab, the browser window either reduces to the toolbar, or just changes size, usually from full-screen to 2/3 of its size. I reinstalled Firefox (downloaded from the web) after wiping my hard drive because I was having so many problems from my browser constantly crashing, to the computer itself crashing often, to the computer running exceptionally slow. At first everything seemed fine. But then after having opened my computer a few times, a few different windows began to freeze, then that stopped, then this thing with the browser started a few times later after opening it. Now it does it every time I open it. Also, whenever I try to click on a button on other windows on my computer, I get the 'warning' sound, nothing happens, then after a couple more tries, the button works. All of this is just weird. I had antivirus protection on my computer, but it apparently did not catch whatever virus infected my computer, or the damage was already done when it did get it. I thought once the hard drive was wiped, that everything would be ok, but then these weird things began to start up, and now I am wondering.... Of course, it could also be something wrong with the browser, too. I've also had some trouble getting my printer to working again, but I've managed to solve that problem.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
