Write File in Applet

I'm a student. I will be very happy if you could help!
I'm writing an self-signed applet that runs on browser.
Luckily there is no error shown in the java console when i run the applet.
however, i can't store information to a file which is placed at the server(where my applet is placed).
The biggest problem is there is NO ERROR message shown in the java console...
everything seems running very well, except THE FILE IS NOT UPDATE!
my source code for writing file:
try{
URL url1 = new URL("http://appletServer/~doris/1/User.properties");
URLConnection con=url1.openConnection();
con.setDoOutput(true);
OutputStream out = con.getOutputStream();
props.store(out, "User properties of NAMS");//"props" is a property that contains some properties information.
catch(Exception e){
System.err.println("Error: " +e);
Thanks for your attention!

try{
URL url = new URL("");
URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
con.setDoOutput(true);
con.setDoInput(true);
con.setUseCaches(false);
con.setRequestProperty("Content-type", "text/plain");
con.setRequestProperty("Content-length", data.length()+"");
PrintStream out = new PrintStream(con.getOutputStream());
out.print(data);
out.flush();
out.close();
catch(Exception e){}

  • No permission to write files from applets

    Dear All,
    I wrote one applet for displaying a live video and able to capture a single frame and cine loops. It's working properly.
    Now i plug in this applet into my .jsp page. After this I'm facing so many problems.Initially i can't able to store anything
    from my applet (after plug in to .jsp). So i edit the java.policy file. Now i can store the single frames captured via my applet. But I'm not able to store the cine loops.

    I can also sing my applet (self certified). But the problem is not solved.
    In my log file i found the following is preventing to write the files.
    com.sun.media.JMFSecurityManager.checkFileSave(JMFSecurityManager.java:250)
    Can anyone help me to solve this issue..
    Regards

    To access files (read and write) from an applet, the applet needs to be signed.
    There is a forum here to discuss signed applets:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=63
    These instructions (in Part III) for signing applets work:

  • Write files on a Server with an Applet

    How can I write files (like php) on my server with an applet? Can anybody explain it step for step?

    Yes... but then...? I thinked applets have no
    permission to write files...The correct sentence is: unsigned applets don't have permission to write files locally. Also, unsigned applets cannot access any other server than the one they came from. You don't seem to do either, so it might work without signing. And if you need sining, just sign it.
    What I don't know is how you can use an FTP or any other 3rd party library in combination with an applet... dunno if the user needs to have it locally or whether the applet can pull it off your server if needed.

  • Applet to write file on IE4.0

    Hi all,
    Please help, the situation is like this,
    server has no support for web, no Java plugin...
    client browsers' are equipped only with IE4.0, and they will not be upgraded nor plugged with Java Plug-in.
    On these strict circumstances, how could i run an applet to read/write files?
    if the applet is converted to an application, file permission problem should be solved, but how could the clients run the CLASS/JAR files without installing JRE...
    pls help, it's in ergent. (have to finish the program in this week!!)
    Thank you a million!!!!!!
    J.

    New foundings!
    As the server is running Netware 4.2, is that possible if i just install JVM on the server and problem will be solved?

  • Write file with signed applet

    Hi!
    I have a signed applet which has to write a file to the server, but i still get permission exceptions. I guess I still have to add permissions to the applet but I realy can't find how to do that. Can anyone give me a short tutorial on how to add permissions to the applet?
    greetings

    As stated, applets are only able to write files in the machine that the applet is running on. They can't write files to other machines. They can communicate to the machine that they originate from (its host) - but not other, random machines.
    To place a file on its host, the applet sends the file contents to its host (typically using sockets for this) which receives the data with a server program. Then another program on the host writes the data to a file. If you want the file on another, random machine then it can be transferred using the same approach (sockets, etc.)
    There are alternatives, but this is the least complicated approach. This tutorial walks you through creating an applet and the host it communicates with.
    [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/deployment/applet/server.html]
    Note that the tutorial also has a link to a more detailed tutorial, the Custom Networking Trail.

    We can write, if the applet or jar file is signed

  • How to write file to server side?

    hello,
    Could anyone pls help me...
    I just want to see an example how can I write to a file that is placed at the server(save place as the applet).
    p.s. I have been successfully read a file from there...
    Suppose I have signed the applet (self-signed), anymore security problem I need to pay attention to?
    Thanks a lot!!

    hi mandy, from the applet u can send the file to be written into the server to a servlet running in server and the servlet can in turn write the file into the servlet. by applet - servlet communication, u can easily read and write files to the server.

    OK - the problem you describe is definitely what's giving you grief.
    The workaround is to use a socket connection and send your own request headers, with the content length filled in. You may have to multi-part mime encode the stream on its way out as well (I'm not about that...).
    You can use the following:
    http://porsche.cis.udel.edu:8080/cis479/lectures/slides-04/slide-02.html
    on your server to get a feel for the format that the request headers need to take.

    I get the out of Memory Error on the client side. I
    was told that this might be a bug in the URLConnection
    class implementation that basically it wont know the
    content length until all the data has been written to
    the output stream, so it uses an in memory buffer to
    store the data which basically causes memory issues..
    do you think there might be a workaround of any kind..
    or maybe a way that the buffer might be flushed after
    a certain size of file has been uploaded.. ?? do you
    have any ideas?

  • Playing an audio file from applet

    Hi friends,
    I have a problem to be solved .
    Please help me.
    I have to play an audio file from applet.When the applet loads it shold start playing .There is a progress bar in the applet it shold alsomove corresponding to that.
    How can i do that.Give me an idea.
    I know nothing about jmf.
    I am using j2sdk1.4,windows 2000 server.

    Andrew,
    Forgive my naivety, but i struggle with JAVA! I am desperately trying to create a JAVA plugin to SERVOY and have to date been successful with a few things. Record, Playback, convert to .spx.
    I am really struggling with implementing a rewind and fastforward function of the type you have. I thought it would be easy, but it appears not.
    At the bottom is the complete code from my class that is called by the servoy plugin wrapper,
    i had thought that adding some simple jump 500 ms would have been easy in something like this:
    public AudioStream js_FastForward (AudioStream as) throws IOException {
    !!! Line or two here to move the play head forward !!!
         AudioPlayer.player.start(as);
         return as;
    Can you give me any pointers to how i code that fast forward bit.
    many thanks
    David

  • How to create a small HTML-file in Applet

    What i wan't to do is as follows:
    1. In an applet i create a string containing a small HTML-file. Its contents depends on what the user chose in the applet.
    2. then i wan't to redirect the browser to that HTML-file. appletcontext.showDocument(URL) could be used.
    The problem is how can i create an URL to a string which is only in memory.
    Writing the string to a file and then creating URL to it poses problems, as we all know, writing files from applets is difficult.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Here is how you do it:
    1) use the JSObject (you may have to import
    netscape.javascript.JSObject depending on the
    version of your SDK) to open a window with an empty
    URL, a title , and a _blank or _self
    target.
    2) use the JSObject document.write to write the HTML
    string to the window that you opened in #1 above
    3) close the document.
    If you need further assistance, post your code and I
    can modify it for you or if you want, I can whip up a
    small demo applet for you to try.
    ;o)
    V.V.Thanks!! Your post has been very helpful. One question though, I suppose the client has to have a java-plug-in installed in his/her web-browser, is that right?

  • How to allow user upload file on applet??

    Sorry I'm new to programming here, but I'm trying to allow user to upload a file to the server so the program inside the server can user the file as input.
    I've noticed that JFileChooser, the ideal class for this, is not allowed on the applet, so I don't know how to go about doing this.
    Thanks for any input!

    ok
    you wish to transfer a file from applet to server.
    1. Applet gets the file
    the applet needs to access the file System therefor it must b a signed applet to get aound the security restrictions. This is why the JFileChooser doesn't work. Check out the tutorials on jars and applets, particularly the security notes.
    2. opens a connection with the server
    so the applet has a file and needs to send it. there needs to be a service of some form on the destination computer to execpt the file. Perhaps you write your own perhaps you use HTTP.
    3. server software stores the file
    where an applet is an mini application that runs within the confines of the web browser. a SERVLET is a service program which runs with in the confines of a server, such as a web server.
    this is a lot easier to do HTML rather that applet in my opinion but which ever.

  • Write to file??? looking for a solution to write file to the server

    Dear all,
    Since most browsers forbid all file access, so is there is another way to write file to server in applet??? or is there an alternative using combination of JSP??
    Thank you for your attention,
    Dan

    If you have access to the server you are writing the file to then you could have your applet collect information and send it to the server in a form. Then write a bean or other class that handles it and writes it to the server.

  • Read and Write Files to user from Forms Server

    We are developing an application that requires us to rread and write files to the user system. We are deploying using the developer/forms server and this is not happenning. The text_io package and the d2wkutil operate on the application server system, not the user system. So is there a method to read the file contents into the app and write files out to the user system across the web. Thanks.

    developer6 can interact with javabeans. the javabean runs as an applet on the client machine. all you have to do is setup a javabean that read and write to your client machine.
    when you test your application, work with java console open so you'll be able to debug your appliacion, if you'll receive java security execption you may need to sign this javabean. look at sun site for info regarding the usage of javakey for signing java classes and jars.
