    Hi Rob, Thanks for your input. The temp location is on the C drive with 228 GB free space. My other drives have 123 GB and 204 GB of free space. I can see how the 32 bit set up is perfectly extracted when it stops when coming to the 64 bit set up. I have done the exercise several times and also made new downloads. I am using Norton 360 and Malwarebytes anti-malware but the dowload from Adobe should be trusted.

    Apache Tomcat/5.0.27Thanks,
    vyrav.

    You have apparently missed setting the write permission to the target directory for the user that Tomcat is running as. Tomcat may be running as a different user than the one you are logged into on the system.
    It may be trying to save to an incorrect location, so double check the directory is what you expect it to be.
    The file may already exist, so it may not be able to over-write the file, so make sure you give the tomcat user the ability to delete and overwrite as well as write - or check if the file exists before writing and warn user if you don't want to give delete permissions.

  • WARNING: Cannot "Read or Write" files on iPod

    My iPod has been behaving very curiosly as of late. For the past month a wanring has flashed up on my iTunes screen when attempting to sync music files. The warning says *"Cannot read the disk 'iPod'. Unable to read or write files"*. Despite this warning my iPod has been able to update daily podcasts without issue. However, when I recently purchased new music I could not get it to sync to my iPod. I have no problem listening to this new album in my iTunes library, but it just will not sync to my iPod. I created a playlist for it and attempted to add it, but I discovered that the iPod was not syncing the playlists either!
    In a recent attempt to remedy the problem I selected only to sync the playlist that had the new album. What happened was frightening. All my music was no longer on the iPod, with the exception of my podcasts! I tried altering the settings to return all the music, but now I am unable to add any of my music from the library.
    I am wondering if anyone has experienced this difficulty before, and if so, if they have any trouble shooting techniques. I have already been ti Apple's support page and completed the 5 recommended steps, to no avail. Any suggestions or thoughts as to what might be occuring.

    Luckily, backing up your itunes library is easy. Just duplicate the folder(s) with your music in it. (Most likely, it's user/Music/ITunes.) Once the copy is made, you might want to move it to a different part of your hard drive.
    Now, restoring your ipod WILL wipe the device. If there's anything on your ipod that isn't in your itunes library (unlikely but possible), you want to make sure you've got a copy of it somewhere before restoring.
    Before restoring, check to see if there is an update to the ipod's firmware that needs to be installed. This is a "longshot" but might help. Just click the "check for update" button on the ipod's "Summary" pane in itunes. (Current version is 1.2.3, I think).

  • Writing files to disk.....

    Hi, any ideas why this code to read in an array of bytes (a file) from a server and then write the file to a user chosen directory does not work??
    Should I be using a fileObject and not just a fileoutputstream?? I am using an example from a book that just reads in the array of bytes, creates a fileoutputstream and uses its write method to save the file....
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!
    byte[] theDocument = (byte[])objectIn.readObject();
    if (theDocument.length > 0)
         //Let user choose where to put this file
         JFileChooser fileChooser = new JFileChooser();
         fileChooser.setFileSelectionMode(JFileChooser.DIRECTORIES_ONLY);
         fileChooser.setApproveButtonText("Save");
         fileChooser.setApproveButtonToolTipText("Click to save the document in this directory");
         selection = fileChooser.showOpenDialog(null);
         if (selection == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
               //Get the address to the folder they chose
               String thePath = fileChooser.getSelectedFile().toString();
               thePath = thePath + fileName;     //FILENAME CREATED & INITIALISED ELSEWHERE AND IS ALWAYS SOMETHING LIKE MYFILE.TXT  FILE NAME MAY HAVE SPACES SOMETIMES, PROBLEM???
               //now write the file out to the folder chosen by the user
               try
                          FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream(thePath);
          fileOut.write(theDocument);//Write the array of bytes to disk to save the file!               fileOut.close();                                        System.out.println("We saved the file to disk!"); //THIS IS DISPLAYED WHEN CODE IS RUN!!
               catch (FileNotFoundException FNF)
                          clientLogin.showUserMessage("Could not save the document.  Check that you have permission to write to the chosen destination directory.");
    else
               clientLogin.showUserMessage("No document was sent back from the server.");
    }

    Yes, I am using a serialised byte array to send the file accross the network from server to client. It just seemed a neat way to do it.....
    All communication between my server and client is done using objectoutput and objetcinputstreams because i had problems using printwriters, buffered readers and objectstreams on the same socket....
    my server has to receive, populate and send back custom user objects so it made sense (to me anyway) to send all communication like that.....
    Is there a better way?
    Thanks for speedy replies.

  • Cannot Write Files to my Formatted External Hard-drive

    I've been struggling with this problem for awhile now. I have a 200GB external hard drive that I used on my windows box. I have music on it and would like to use it on my macbook. When I plug it into my macbook, it mounts and shows up on the desktop. I can go into it in finder, and view the files and folders that are on it. I can also create new folders. However, when I try to read or write files to/from the hard drive, finder stalls at 'zero KB of x MB written'. If I try to copy a file to the drive, the file will be created but it will be of zero or very very small size.
    I reformatted the drive with Disk Utility and also via the command line with 'diskutil reformat /dev/disk1s5' and these reformat the drive successfully, but the same problems occur.
    What could be going on? The drive is not faulty, and it mounts just fine. I just can't read or write from the drive in OS X.
    Please help! Thank you in advance.

    The NTFS file format is not really that compatible with macs (you can only "read" files, but not "write" to them). Also, while you can reformat a hard drive with the same or different file type, the NTFS type is the only one that will not let you go from having a NTFS formatted drive and reformatting it as a different format (you can do it again as NTFS but that's it). If you have a FAT or FAT32 formatted drive, you can go and reformat it as NTFS, but once it has had the newer windows format style done to it, you can't change it to anything else.
    Also, as I think you said you could read from it at first, and then were not able to?, this would be because the reading of the files would have been fine, but as soon as you went and reformatted it again (which basically wipes the slate clean), you lost all the data that possibly was on there, and now as an NTFS format with no data, therefore nothing for a Mac to get a chance to "read", you have nothing and can only use this as an NTFS drive for windows (or any other possible OS that is NTFS compatible).
    Sorry about the bad news... Try to sell it to a windows person and get another external hard drive (formatted as FAT32 or not pre-formatted yet, then format as FAT32) so that you can use that with your Mac...

  • How can I save a text file to disk from Illustrator ?

    Hi,
    I was looking through the Javascript reference and couldn't find anything related to writing strings to a text file on disk.
    Is this possible ? If so where should I look ?
    Otherwise, can I run a bit of code in Terminal/CommandPrompt from Illustrator (.e.g. echo 'Hello!' >> file.txt) ?

    Here's something that I think Muppet Mark or Carlos Canto posted earlier
    #target illustrator
    var textFile = File('~/Desktop/AI.txt');
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    var docText = '';
    for (var i = 0; i < doc.textFrames.length; i++)
              docText += doc.textFrames[i].contents + '\r';
    textFile.open('e');
    textFile.write(docText);
    textFile.close();

    If prefs are the same as Settings on a MAC, OK, it would have been more
    clear to me if you had said Settings since I didn't see anything related to

    Here's a picture of a while loop around part of your code. All it's doing is waiting to write until the user presses the save button. If you need it to do more, explain in more detail.

  • Trying to Write Files in Java

    I've written this; it's one of three classes that work together in a java applet.
    import java.applet.*; import java.awt.*; import java.util.*;                            import java.io.*;
    class Game{Graphics run(Graphics bufferGraphics, ArrayList<Image> image, Buff buff){
    //* Game Code *************************************************************************************************************************//
         bufferGraphics.drawImage(image.get(1),0,0,800,600,buff);
         bufferGraphics.drawImage(image.get(0),100,100,400,300,buff);
         File file = new File ("Meh.dat");
         try{
         PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file)));
         out.close();
         catch(IOException ex)
              bufferGraphics.drawString("Error!", 0, 0);
    return bufferGraphics;}}
    //*************************************************************************************************************************************//If I take out
         try{
         PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file)));
         out.close();
         catch(IOException ex)
              bufferGraphics.drawString("Error!", 0, 0);
         }It works fine, but with that in there, the other two classes don't work (And it doesn't even write the file). It doesn't even give me my error message, so I'm confused.
    The I/O code works fine in a file with system.out.println, so I think it might have to do with the out method/class/whatever.

    On that site, it says this:
    Can applets read or write files?
    In Java-enabled browsers, untrusted applets cannot
    read or write files at all. By default, downloaded
    applets are considered untrusted. There are two ways
    for an applet to be considered trusted:
    1. The applet is installed on the local hard disk,
    in a directory on the CLASSPATH used by the program
    that you are using to run the applet. Usually, this
    is a Java-enabled browser, but it could be the
    appletviewer, or other Java programs that know how
    to load applets.
    doesn't being in the same folder/server count as no.1?Yes but in that case you need a permissions file ... don't expect your users to have that or know how to do it. If this is yours and you are running it for yourself or someone you can give the permissions file to, then no you don't need to sign it - you just need to know how to do the grants. search this site for how to do that (tutorial/t-tip/already asked question ... )

  • Check write privileges on disk error

    I'm just trying to load the trial version of Acrobat XI on my windows 7 pc.  I have plenty of disk space (20 Gig available) and after it extracts the files I get an error that says to check the write privileges on disk and that there might be insufficient disk space.  I have checked what I think are the "write privileges" and everything is set to "allow" and I think I have enough disk space. Anyone know how to fix this so I can install the program?

    Typically you need to be sure you are logged in as the administrator and have anti-virus disabled. Some of the files of the install go into folders that may be giving you this error and you need to have the proper access to those folders.

  • Help with Read/Write File

    hi I was wondering if someone can help me do some read/write file with java. here is what I want to do:
    Read a file and search the whole file for a word such as "throw" and print out the rest of that line to a new file. in the case of "throw", i want to link all thrown exceptions to the file that contained them.
    can someone help me out and let me know what way I can approach in this?
    any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks!

    Rough and dirty, here's a class that will read a file and return a resultset:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.nio.*;
    import java.nio.channels.FileChannel;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.DateFormat;
    public class Utils{
         File fileName;
         FileOutputStream outputFile;
         boolean closeChannel;
         //Constructor
         public Utils(String directory, String filename){
              String strFileDir = directory;
              String strFileName = filename;
              File fileDir = new File(strFileDir);
              fileName = new File(fileDir, strFileName);
              // If directory does not exhist, create it.
              if(!fileDir.isDirectory()){
                   if(fileDir.mkdirs()){
                        System.out.println(fileDir + " created.");
                   else{
                        System.out.println(fileDir + " could not be created.");
    public ArrayList readText() throws IOException{
              // Read content of file into a collection
              ArrayList arrayList = new ArrayList();
              try{
                   BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(fileName));
                   String line;
                   while((line = in.readLine()) != null){
                        arrayList.add(line);
                   in.close();
              catch (IOException ex){
                   throw ex;
              return arrayList;
         }And here's how you use the class:
    // Create a new Disk Utilities object.  This can be used for all subsequent read/writes to this file.
              Utils utilTest = new Utils("e:/testing", "Testing.txt");
    // Create a collection to hold the data from the file.
              ArrayList arrayList = new ArrayList();
              try{arrayList = utilTest.readText();}catch(IOException ex){ex.printStackTrace(System.err);}

    The default encoding is utf-8 which should be used if the XML file does not specify one.
