Write PROPERTIES file

Hi there
Im trying to write a properties file. My out put (the content of the PROPERTIES file should be exactly as follows)
#Wed Nov 30 05:35:37 LKT 2005
java.naming.provider.url=jnp://localhost:1099
java.naming.factory.initial=org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
Here is the code Im using (Just a demo)
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class test{
     public static void main(String arf[]){
        try{
            Properties defaultProps = new Properties();
                FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("defaultProperties.PROPERTIES");
                defaultProps.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial","org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory");
                defaultProps.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url","jnp://"+"localhost"+":"+"1099");
                defaultProps.store(out, null);
                out.close();
          catch(Exception e){}
}When I run this the propeties file it contains the following. Please note the (\ )before every colon(:) in jnp\://localhost\:1099. I need to eliminate this \ and write only the : to the PROPERTIES file as mentioned above.
#Wed Nov 30 05:35:37 LKT 2005
java.naming.provider.url=jnp\://localhost\:1099
java.naming.factory.initial=org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
Some body please help me to eliminate this \.

Why are you trying to get rid of the "\" before the colons? The "\" is needed to preserve the Properties file format. Read the API for the "load" and "store" methods.

  • How can i write properties file for Hindi font

    Hi All,
    i'm using jdev 11.1.1.5.0
    in my use case i have worked on internationalization where i want to use hindi font
    like this link -
    Majid Hussain: Internationalization of ADF 11.1.1.3 Applications
    as in above post majid used german language and write properties file for german language(which is using english character).
    but my problem is that i want to use hindi language
    so how can i write propery file which support hindi font.
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
    We also had same requirement where we need to show indian local language(Hindi ,Bengali and many more ).
    We had implemented following approach and perhaps it will helpful for you.
    1-First we changed the encoding value in jdeveloper.
       go to jdeveloper --> tools --->preference-->encoding , select to UTF8
    2-We used to get the properties and it's translated value from business and then we were manually put these pair into related resource bundle.
    And using this we were able to implemented multilanguage support.
    Thanks

  • Read/write properties

    Hi,
    I'm trying to read a properties file, and them write back again into it. However, the newly created properties file does not overwrite the old file. The file that I read from is in the classpath, but the file that I write to is written in the directory where the program is executed from.
    How can I force that when I write the property file that it writes over the old file?
    This is the code that I'm using...
    private String    m_FileIni     = "";
    m_FileIni = "b70.properties";
    // Read properties file
    try {
       m_Properties.load(getClass().getResourceAsStream(m_FileIni));
    } catch (IOException e) {}
    // Write properties file.
    try {
       m_Properties.store(new FileOutputStream(m_FileIni), null);
    } catch (IOException e) {}

    If you use getResource rather than getResourceAsStream, you get a URL. Calling getFIle on that URL will give you a String, which you should be able to pass to the File constructor (or, indeed, the FileOutputStream constructor).

  • Application to edit properties file

    All,
    any ideas on what framework or library to use to build an app that will edit a properties file.
    details:
    I have a prop file: file.properties.
    QUERY=accountnumber,lastname,dob
    CRMFIELDS=AccountNumber,LastName,DOB
    TYPES=String,String,Date
    So, each item in each list is paired up.
    accountnumber=AccountNumber=String, etc....
    I am looking to build a drag and drop app to be able to move the items around at will, then publish to
    file.properties when done.
    I am looking to have 3 columns allowing to drop where I want.
    Any frameworks or libraries rec'd : like prototype or scriptaculous, or maybe even javafx.
    Trying to get an idea of what you all recommend.

    Java's view of .properties files is that they represent a Map<String, String>, i.e. you get a collection of name/value pairs in no particular sequence. If you use the Properties class to read and write properties files then the file will be written in no particular order. There's no problem if the value is a comma separated list.
    If you can live with that you can use the Properties class, if not you'll just have to treat it like any other text file.

    hi,

    I am trying to write a program wherein i will be reading the value of a property from a properties file which will be true initially. I want to loop in there till the time when the value of the property is false.

    Any suggestons are awaited.I think you better rethink your design , do not use recursion, I would normally use a loop like you did but without loading the content of the file each time, I would use File.l lastModified() method and compare with previous results from this method to see if the file was modified. Then if it was modified then load the new File and check if the property value has changed.

  • Write a properties file in a package, of my own project.

    It is kinda hard for me to safe my checkSameFile.properties file inside a package of my own project.
                    Properties properties = new Properties();
              FileOutputStream fileOutputStream = null;
              try {
                   fileOutputStream = new FileOutputStream("checkSameFile.properties");
              } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              try {
                   properties.setProperty("directoryPathName", "K:/Muziek/Muziek");
                   properties.store(fileOutputStream, "Two directory path names");
                   fileOutputStream.close();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              }This does work, but my checkSameFile.properties is saved in my project map outside the src folder.
    I want to save checkSameFile.properties in my package 'application.checkSameFile' . It tried many things, but nothing works.
    The most beautiful solution would be something like this.
                    Properties properties = new Properties();
              FileOutputStream fileOutputStream = null;
              try {
                   fileOutputStream = new FileOutputStream("application.checkSameFile.checkSameFile.properties");
              } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              try {
                   properties.setProperty("directoryPathName", "K:/Muziek/Muziek");
                   properties.store(fileOutputStream, "Two directory path names");
                   fileOutputStream.close();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              }This doesn't work.
    I hope someone can help me out. I thank in advance.

    Ah ok thx for helping me. It was kinda stupid of me i guess.

  • How we write into properties file using get class method

    Hi
    I want to set some value into properties file using given code
    can any one please tell me how i can do this.
    property file
    setting.properties
    Name     =     abc
    and code I use is
    java.io.InputStream oInputStream = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("Setting.properties");
                   Properties obj = new Properties();
                   obj.load(oInputStream);
                   String myName = obj.getProperty("Name");
                   System.out.println("myName :"+myName);
                   obj.setProperty("Name","def");
                   FileOutputStream oOutput= new FileOutputStream("Setting.properties");
                   obj.store(oOutput, "");
    thanks.

    You can't.
    If you have properties that change dynamically, you should not be using a properties file that sits in the classpath, you should be using Preferences, or a properties file that sits in some application or possibly even user directory, but not one in the classpath. The proper way to do this, would be to have a properties file in your jar (or otherwise in your classpath) that contains the defaults, and another one outside of the classpath in one of the twwo above mentioned areas, then, you read the default one only if the other doesn't exist, or you read the default one first, then read the other overwriting the values from the defaults.
    Don't forget to save the properties again (right after loading if you loaded, or always load, the defaults) after every change.

  • In a new Application, the ApplicationResources_en.properties file is not having the constraint messages created

    Hi Everyone:
              We are using JDev 11.1.2 and JHeadstart 11.1.2.  We have been having a multitude of problems when running applications through the migrator (and we have now been told by an Oracle consultant that the migrator is problematic), so we are trying to re-write things from scratch to bring them over from 11.1.1.4 to 11.1.2.
              I have been working on a simple application from scratch and discovered that the messages for constraints on the entities that I am using are not showing up in the ApplicationResources_en.properties.file.  We noticed a similar thing with converting an application using the migrator and that post is found here - java.lang.NullPointerException ADF_FACES-60097 message ***WITH SOLUTION*** -.
              However, I didn't get a single reply to that thread.
              I initially thought it was a migration issue, but this application is from scratch.  Whenever I tried to input an invalid value into a page column, the following exception would be received.
    "java.lang.NullPointerException  ADF_FACES-60097:For more information, please see the server's error log for an entry beginning with: ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR, #"
               This Null Pointer turned out to be the missing message from the ApplicationResources_en.properties file.  In the new application I just wrote, I had to manually edit to add the following lines to the ApplicationResources_en.properties file and the application no longer gives me the error if I input an invalid value.

    Hi Everyone:
               I have done some further testing.  We are using a re-usable Business Components .jar file to access our entities.  We import the .jar file into the project and create the ViewObjects and ViewLinks from that .jar file.
                It APPEARS that a test case using the HRSchema and using the Entities & Associates generates the constraint error messages, but when I use the .jar file of re-usable business components imported into the project, those constraint error messages are not created in the ApplicationResources_en.properties file.  I have created two testcases as well as the re-usable .jar file that I can send to you to show what I mean.
                This behaviour seems to have shown up in 11.1.2 as there was no problem before this.
                 Please let me know where you'd like me to upload the testcases.
                 Thank you.

  • Issue in reading multiple time properties file

    Use Case:
    I have a page in which i have to show some Outage Messages on page. So I have configured outage message in properties files. This message should me rendered each time when it finds that properties file in class path or it finds the values w.r.t their keys.
    So what I decide that I shall write java method and call this method on Loading the page but here what happen is that whenever that page is load each time that reader file will call , that will create memory leak .
    So, anyone help me on this. What will be the best approach for that reading multiple times properties file?
    I will be grateful for any help you can provide

    Hi,
    have a bean at applicationScope, somewhat like this
    import java.util.HashMap;
    public class ApplnProperties {

        public HashMap getPropMap() {
            if(_propMap == null){
                //read the properties file and populate _propMap
            return _propMap;

    and on page you can refer the prop map like following

  • How to get File Reference of a properties file from EJB

    Hi,
    I am using Sun App server 7 with Oracle 9i. I am keeping all my SQL statements in a properties file from which I am loading it while making a database operation from Stateless beans. My problem is I am not able to get the reference of the properties file. Here is the code through which I am getting the SQL statements loaded to a cache.
    String sqlFileName = "SQL.properties";
    sqlCache.load(new FileInputStream(sqlFileName));
    From the cache I am sending the SQL statement depending on the key value. But the problem is I have to keep the SQL.properties file on the App Server config directory of the instance where the server.xml file resides. Otherwise it is not able to find the properties file. But I don't want to put the properties file on the config directory of the server instance. Please help how to get the properties file from the packakge. My file is residing inside a package com.company.sql . Botht the properties file and the class accessing the file are residing in the same package. Please help how to get the reference of the file with out putting the file in the config directory.
    Thanks
    Amit Patnaik

    Just wanted to warn you of the hazards if you read a file from EJB
    So please make sure that these hazards will not affect your application. However the solution suggested to use getResourceStream() concurs with ejbSpec
    This snippet is from suns blueprint on ejb
    Why can't EJBs read and write files and directories in the filesystem? And why can't they access file descriptors?
    Enterprise beans aren't allowed to access files primarily because files are not transactional resources. Allowing EJBs to access files or directories in the filesystem, or to use file descriptors, would compromise component distributability, and would be a security hazard.
    Another reason is deployability. The EJB container can choose to place an enterprise bean in any JVM, on any machine in a cluster. Yet the contents of a filesystem are not part of a deployment, and are therefore outside of the EJB container's control. File systems, directories, files, and especially file descriptors tend to be machine-local resources. If an enterprise bean running in a JVM on a particular machine is using or holding an open file descriptor to a file in the filesystem, that enterprise bean cannot easily be moved from one JVM or machine to another, without losing its reference to the file.
    Furthermore, giving EJBs access to the filesystem is a security hazard, since the enterprise bean could potentially read and broadcast the contents of sensitive files, or even upload and overwrite the JVM runtime binary for malicious purposes.
    Files are not an appropriate mechanism for storing business data for use by components, because they tend to be unstructured, are not under the control of the server environment, and typically don't provide distributed transactional access or fine-grained locking. Business data is better managed using a persistence interface such as JDBC, whose implementations usually provide these benefits. Read-only data can, however, be stored in files in a deployment JAR, and accessed with the getResource() or getResourceAsStream() methods of java.lang.Class.
    Hope this info helps!

  • Sections in properties file

    In my file i have few sections and name=value pair.
    sectiona
    name1=value1
    name2=value2
    sectionb
    name3=value3
    name4=value4
    Can i do it in one properties class. In Properties.store i see you can write a header. So i guess header will be sectiona.
    Do i need to have one properties class for each section?

    Yes, just to disply it nicely.Then don't do this. The Properties.store() method will write your properties in a sequence that appears random. This is no problem for the Properties.load() method because it doesn't care what order the properties appear in. But if people care what order they appear in, then don't use Properties.store() to write the file.

  • PLEASE HELP. How do you access properties files in WEB-INF  and classes directory

    We have a war file that needs to access properties files that are in the WEB-INF directory
    of the war file. We also need to load one of the properties files from the classpath.
    However, when we deploy the application ( an ear which inlcludes an ejbjar and a
    war and the libraries both the ejbjar (with a manifest setting the classpath ) and
    war need ) the properties don't get extracted.
    In some of our servlets we are trying to access those files with the path "WEB-INF/foo.properties"
    and we get a FileNotFoundException. Then we check and see that NO properties files
    have been extracted into their appropriate places ( not even those we throw into
    the WEB-INF/classes directory ).
    PLEASE HELP,
    Christian Hargraves

    The file doesn't have to be extracted from the war. For example, you can place
    test.properties into your app WEB-INF and write a simple JSP to see how it
    works:
    <%
    InputStream in = application.getResourceAsStream("/WEB-INF/test.properties");
    %>
    It will return you a zip inputstream if you deployed your application as a .war.

    I try this, but I get a NullPointerException. The file never actually gets extracted
    from the war. Under tomcat and resin this works great ( that's why I am having all
    of the trouble i am having ), but there are absolutely no properties files in the
    extracted directories for WebLogic deploys. only:
    WEB-INF/some_tmp_dir/WEB-INF/lib
    and then some dynamically generated jor file with all of the classes that would normally
    go in WEB-INF/classes ( all except the properties, of course, which are no where
    to be found. ).
    There has to be some kind of setting I am missing. Please don't make me seperate
    these properties files from the war/ear and then put the path to these properties
    files in the CLASSPATH, changing one step to three steps to deploy!!
    I have found a documented bug where you can't even put the properties files in a
    jar file and that bug will never be fixed for WebLogic 6.1.

    To access files in WEB-INF you can use ServletContext.getResourceXXX("/WEB-INF/filename")

  • How to load Java properties file dynamically using weblogic server

    Hi,
    We are using Java properties file in Java code. Properties in java properties file are frequently modified. If I keep these properties file in project classpath or as part of war, I will have to redeploy application after each change.
    We are using Weblogic Server.
    Can you please suggest me how can this properties file be loaded at weblogic server startup. Then in that case, how to refer property file in Java code?
    What is the best practice for this?
    Thanks,
    Parshant

    Another alternative is, keep the property file in any pre-defined location. Write a class which reads the properties from the file and returns the one which is requested by caller and deploy this class. Whenever you have to change the properties just update the property file on server and next call to fetch the property should return the updated one.
    Downside of this approach is file I/O everytime. To overcome that you can actually "cache" the properties in a hashmap. Basically when any property if requested, first check the hashmap, if not found then only read from property file and also update in hash map. Next time same property will be returned from hash map itself. The hash map will be cleared at every server restart since its in the memory. You will also need to build a method to clear the hashmap when you update the values in the property file on server.
    This solution would be suitable for small size files and when network overhead of calling a DB needs to be avoided.

  • What needs to be in my jndi.properties file to get oracle accessed by a jndi client

    I am trying to write a connection pool class that use jndi
    to locate the data base. I use "bindds" bind my OracleDataSource
    object with the name of 'test/jdbc/test'. I should then be able to do a lookup like: OracleDataSource ods =
    (OracleDataSource) ctx.lookup (test/jdbc/test)
    All Oracle code examples use (Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
    "com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory");
    Is this correct? And what other things should be in my jndi.properties file to access the naming service with comes with
    Oracle (Jserver)? For example to I need to include a Context.PROVIDER_URL value. I would think Oracle would have some
    standard way of accessing its own Naming service. Thanks David

    This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
    ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
    Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
    If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.
