Writing a String[] in one String

Hi all,
I tried to write this Method:
public String stringFieldToString (String[] strf)
But I cant get the Paramter String[]. following Error message apppeared:
pze\InitServlet.java:72: stringFieldToString(java.lang.String[]) in pze.InitServlet cannot be applied to (java.lang.String)
System.out.println("langer String: "+ stringFieldToString(kommen[count]));
^
Thanx in Advance
robert

stringFieldToString(String[] strf); is expecting an array of strings:
You dont saya how kommen is declared but I think kommen[count] is a single string.
If kommen id defined thus String[] kommen, then you can pass that to the routine:
stringFieldToString(kommen);
hope this helps.

  • Converting numerous strings to one string - any ideas how to do this?

    Hi,
    I've written a test main class where the user inputs, via the keyboard, one integer value and four strings. I've already converted the one integer to a string value, but I now need to convert all of the strings to one string
    Does anybody know how to achieve this?
    Many thanks!!

    Thanks for the reply.
    How do I change the saveTo method so it will add commas to the String filmDetails in the constructor within the class Title?
    I don't understand what you mean when you say that I write to one file and read back from another. In my main class I'm only reading and writing to one file, as follows,
    import simplejava.*;
    import videos.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class AddTitle {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            String film, actor1, actor2, director, title;
            int codeNum;
            SimpleReader keyboard = new SimpleReader();
            SimpleWriter screen = new SimpleWriter();
            SimpleReader inFile = new SimpleReader("title_test.txt");
            //title = inFile.readLine();
            //String[] myStrings = title.split(",");
            TitleList titles = new TitleList(inFile);
            codeNum = keyboard.readInt("Title Code for the Film");
            int intValue = codeNum;
            String stringValue = Integer.toString(intValue);
            film = keyboard.readLine("Film Title?");
            actor1 = keyboard.readLine("Lead Actor?");
            actor2 = keyboard.readLine("Supporting Actor?");
            director = keyboard.readLine("Director?");
            String videoTitles = film+actor1+actor2+director;
            titles.add(new Title(codeNum, videoTitles));
            screen.println(titles);
            SimpleWriter outFile = new SimpleWriter("title_test.txt");
            titles.saveTo(outFile);
            outFile.close();
    }In the main class I thought I was closing the file with the code,
    outFile.close();Any ideas how to solve these problems?

  • Use Enum to Switch on Strings where one string is a java reserved word.

    Hi,
    I'm having problems switching on a string using enums, when one of the strings is a java reserved word. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or maybe even a suggestion that I should just be stringing together if-else if and doing string compares rather than a switch.
    I've been using the following method to switch on strings.
    public enum MyEnum
    foo, bar, novalue;
    public static MyEnum stringValue(String string)
    try { return valueOf(string); }
    catch (Exception e) { return novalue; }
    Then I can switch like
    switch(MyEnum.stringValue( someString )
    case foo:
    break;
    case bar:
    break;
    default:
    break;
    Now I have run into the problem where one of the strings I need to use is "int", which is a reserved word in java, so I have to modify.
    What is the best way to handle this?
    I could just not add it to the Enum and handle it at the switch like this...
    switch(MyEnum.stringValue( someString )
    case foo:
    break;
    case bar:
    break;
    default:
    if(someString.equals("int") {  ... }
    break;
    OR...
    I could change the Enum, and return intx, by checking if the string is "int". I could check before the valueOf, or during the exception, but I know it's not good practice to use Exceptions in the normal execution of your code... as it's not really an exception.
    public enum MyEnum
    foo, bar, intx, novalue;
    public static MyEnum stringValue(String string)
    if(string.equals("int") { return intx; }
    try { return valueOf(string); }
    catch (Exception e) { return novalue; }
    OR...
    public enum MyEnum
    foo, bar, intx, novalue;
    public static MyEnum stringValue(String string)
    try { return valueOf(string); }
    catch (Exception e) {
    if(string.equals("int") { return intx; }
    else return novalue;
    }

    My advice is still to not name the enum the same as the value of the string you want to test for. That page I linked to shows how to have enums with parameters. Then you could have an enum whose name is (say) JavaInt and whose string value is "int".
    But frankly if I wanted to map Strings to actions I would just use a Map<String, Action> instead of trying to force my code into an antique construction like switch.

  • How do I put two strings in one "string dialog box"

    example:
    testing connection.....Pass
    testing speed..........Pass
    testing motors.........Failed
    I send a string to a device and receive a string from this device.
    it is easy to print the string in a dialog box. but the problem is that the next string I get from the device overwrites the previous string.
    how can I put all incoming strings under oneanother?

    If you are using a while loop you can put a shift register inside, what else you need is a concatenated string input which will accept your string in the first input and the EOL char in the second.
    If you have a subvi, connect the string to the subvi's input and take the concatenated string at the output
    Take a vi in 6.1 as an example

  • Writing multiple rows in one line, mysql statement. No strings are saved

    Hi, I dont know how to make multiple rows inputs into the table in one sentence. Ive got an error: "java.sql.SQLException: Statement parameter 2 not set" provided by code below. It works fine for one Date row (saves in the db corectly) however when I use for two different date types two single statements it will write databes two times putting 2x Null in the every other row. I dont want that, I need it to be written in one connection and statement.
    try{
         String userName = "user";
              String password = "pass";
              String url = "jdbc:mysql://dbadress/dbname";
              Class.forName ("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
              Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, password);
              Statement  st1=con.createStatement();
           Date BirthDate = wdContext.currentPeopleElement().getBirthDate();  //People - context node, BirthDate - context attribute
           Date FillDate = wdContext.currentContextElement().getFillDate();
           String sql1 = "INSERT INTO table1 (BirthDate1,FillDate1) VALUES (?,?)"; //BirthDate1,FillDate1 - rows in the "table1" table
           PreparedStatement stmt1 = con.prepareStatement(sql1);
           stmt1.setDate(1, BirthDate);
           stmt1.setDate(1, FillDate);
           stmt1.executeUpdate();
           stmt1.close();
         catch(Exception e) {
         wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager() .reportWarning( e.toString() ); }
    I would like to know how to fix it.
    Other issue is that code below:
    try{
         String userName = "user";
              String password = "pass";
              String url = "jdbc:mysql://dbadress/dbname";
              Class.forName ("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
              Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, password);
              Statement  st1=con.createStatement();
           Date BirthDate = wdContext.currentPeopleElement().getBirthDate();  //People - context node, BirthDate - context attribute
           String sql1 = "INSERT INTO table1 (BirthDate1) VALUES (?)"; //BirthDate1 row in the "table1" table
           PreparedStatement stmt1 = con.prepareStatement(sql1);
           stmt1.setDate(1, BirthDate);
              stmt1.executeUpdate();
           stmt1.close();
         catch(Exception e) {
         wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager() .reportWarning( e.toString() ); }
    works perfectly fine. It does write date in the database as shown on the monitor hoever it doesnt work if we change Date type with String. Of course context nodes are String type as well. Code below will write "Null" value in the db. Dont know why. Of course I write some string down in the input field and save after, just like do it with Date type which works fine. Please advice.
    try{
         String userName = "user";
              String password = "pass";
              String url = "jdbc:mysql://dbadress/dbname";
              Class.forName ("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
              Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, password);
            Statement  st2=con.createStatement();
         String signature = wdContext.currentContextElement().getsignature(); //signature - context
         String sql2 = "INSERT INTO table1 (signature1) VALUES (?)"; //signature1 - name of row in the table1
         PreparedStatement stmt2 = con.prepareStatement(sql2);
         stmt2.setString(1, signature);
         stmt2.executeUpdate();
         stmt2.close();
         catch(Exception e) {
         wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager() .reportWarning( e.toString() ); }

  • How to return more than one string?

    Hi,below is my code:
    @WebMethod(operationName = "CheckBooking")
    public String CheckBooking(@WebParam(name = "ID")
    String ID) {
    try {

    ps.setString(1,ID);

    //Print the data to the console
    while(a.next()){
    return a.getString(1);
    catch( Exception e ) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return "a";
    Actually, I would like to select Destination and Date from the database, but if I set the return result as string, then only Destination will be return,how can I modify it so that both of the Destination and Date also will be return?As I know, .Net has a return type called Dataset, in Java what should I write?
    Actually,I am writing this web services to consume it on a table from .Net,so what is the most suitable to code it so that more than one string can be return?

    Create either a list or an array and assign your values to it and return it.
    arrays

    Hi rhiesnand,
    right now you add 2 new rows to your array.
    The solution is to concatenate both row parts to one bigger 1D array before adding that array as new row to your 2D array!
    Like this:

    Dear all,
    How can I put a String from one Frame to another Frame?
    When the application started, the Frame 'WindowX' will be displayed. After you press the 'openButton', a whole new Frame (inputFrame) will be shown. In this Frame )(inputFrame) you can write a String in a TextField. After pressing the okButton, this String will be sent to the first Frame 'WindowX'.

  • Need to concatonate multiple values for same key columns into one string

    Hi...I'm attempting to use PL/SQL to read through a table containing more than one column value for a set of keys, and concatonate those values together into one string. For example, in the STUDENT table, for a STUDENT_ID there are multiple MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED such as History, Biology and Mathematics. Each of the majors is stored in a different row with the same STUDENT_ID due to different faculty DEPARTMENT values.
    I want to read through the table and write out a single row for the STUDENT_ID and
    concatonate the values for MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED. The next row should be another STUDENT_ID and the MAJORS ACCOMPLISHED for that student..etc.
    I've hit a wall trying to use cursors and WHILE loops to get the results I want. I'm hoping someone may have run across this before and have a suggestion. Tks!!

    I think you are looking for string aggregation.
    The following are the replies posted by me in the forum recently on the same case.

    I would like to do a program that have one string control and one string indicator, any character that I type in the string control in the same time it will be appear in another string (indicator). How can help me?

    Why not use an event
    Add a While Loop, inside the loop add the Event Sructure.
    Now in the event structure selecd the String Controls.value change event to
    react
    and the new value inside the event that you get,( connect to the String
    indicator box.

    BR,
    /César.

    Hi Cesar,
    I think you may be misunderstanding the doc.
    A composite key class may also be used to override sort order, but it may contain only a single key field that has one of the types previously mentioned.This means that if you have a sequence, you can only have one key field. In the code you posted, you're defining two key fields.
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException:A composite key class used with a sequence may contain only a single integer key field: es.correos.ape.dao.notification.pojo.ExamplePK[Server1:1291138230743]This is telling you that you cannot have more than one key field, when using a sequence.

  • String[] sa = {"one", "two", "three"} with other types, too?

    String[] sa = {"one", "two", "three"}
    is a nice abbreviation in instantiating an object and initialize with multiple elements in one line of code.
    are there similar syntax abbreviations for e.g. HashSet?
                    HashSet hs = new HashSet();
                    hs.add("one");
                    hs.add("two");
                    hs.add("three");is not very handy ... (especially for much more elements than 3!)

    >                 HashSet hs = new HashSet();
    hs.add("one");
    hs.add("two");
    hs.add("three");is not very handy ... (especially for much more
    elements than 3!)Yes, that might not be very handy. But if you have many elements, String[] sa = {"one", "two", "three"} won't be very handy either. Anyway, initialising collection with large numbers of hard-coded items isn't something you do very often.
    If you absolutely want to write it in one line in your editor, just do so:
    HashSet hs = new HashSet();hs.add("one"); hs.add("two");hs.add("three");

  • Wanted: Popup which allows the user to enter one string

    Hello,
    as the topic states, I am searching for a (modal) popup which lets the user enter one string in a text field and returns this string.
    I am currently using the function module 'POPUP_TO_GET_ONE_VALUE' for this purpose which works quite good - BUT it has one major drawback: the string that is returned is entirely in capital letters. This is not acceptable as I want to build a case-sensitive search based on the input...
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated !
    Best regards,
    Patrick

    Anand,
    I'm just finished with your first reply - checked out 'POPUP_TO_SEARCH_VALUE' - and you already gave a second option - marvellous !
    Will try the other one out right now.
    You are right, the parameters that reference to the DDIC made me wonder and decide against this FM when I searched through all the available popups some time ago.
    To your first reply:
    the popup is quite good. It does indeed deliver a 'case preserved' string. What I don't like is the checkbox and the fact, that the confimation button is labeled 'search' rather than just the 'ICON_OK'. I should mention at this point that I reuse the popup in other scenarios where the string is not used for a search but to name certain objects. Again an all uppercase string (or all lowercase string as well) is unwanted.
    Now on to the second popup...
    Regards,
    Patrick
