Writing BOLD string to the PrintWriter object

Hi,
Following is my code:
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
PrintWriter pw = response.getWriter();
String str = "Developer Forums";
/* what manipulation is required to the string so that it can we converted to bold font..
*.NO HTML tags are allowed.
pw.print(str);

Makrand.Ubale wrote:
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");Slow there! You can't simply write stuff to a Writer and hope that it's in the correct format for Excel.
The problem is that Excel accepts some plain-text formats such as CSV as well and many then think that this approach produces a valid Excel file. It does not!
Especially you can't have any kind of formatting (and I assume even equations) in a CSV file.

  • Problem in setting vector or string[] as the "value object" in hashmap

    Hey I am new to this forum.
    I am doing a project in which i need to store a array of strings as "value object" for a unique key in hashmap.
    as I populate the hashmap from external file according to key and setting the string[]. The hashmap is taking the value field same for each entry i.e the last field as i keep updating the same variable and then putting it into hashmap.
    Please give solution to my problem???
    if question not clear,please tell me- i will add more information

    I tried using the method suggested by you...but it is of same case as using the string[].
    I need to loop the statements in which the hashmap is populating so cant change the variable names in the dd.put() statements. When the below code executes it shows the same set of string for both the keys, that was the problem i was facing with string[].
    here is the example with two entries....same thing in looping.
    HashMap<String,Set<String>> dd=new HashMap<String,Set<String>>();
    String word = "Hello";
    Set<String> alternativeWords = new HashSet<String>();
    alternativeWords.add("Hi");
    alternativeWords.add("Yo");
    dd.put(word, alternativeWords);
    alternativeWords.clear();
    alternativeWords.add("hey");
    word="yep";
    dd.put(word,alternativeWords);
    System.out.println(dd.get("Hello").toString());
    System.out.println(dd.get("yep").toString());

  • Writing a String to the Parallel Port

    I am a new user of Labview and have very little experience. I am trying
    to write an arbitrary string (that I can input) to the parallel port.
    Basically, I need to communicate with a device that connects to it and
    will accept commands as plain strings. I have read the article "using
    the parallel port with labview" but it hasn't helped me as I am so
    inexperienced. I was hoping that someone could help to learn how to do
    this and if there's a vi that already does this. It seems like a simple
    enough task. Thanks.

    Rather than simply present an answer from which you will learn little, I will try and out line what it is that you should investigate......
    First have a look at a string control
    You might want a button and a case structure to tell the code when to start decoding the string
    Put the following code inside the case structure say on the true state
    Then, taking data from this string control get the strings length
    Then using this and a loop index through the string using the string subset VI on the string pallette, use the length of 1 and index the position in the loop
    Now figure out how to convert the character to an ASCII value
    Send this to the parallel port
    This should be a reasonable frame work to empower you to learn for yourself.

  • How to retreive String from the Connection object

    hi all,
    I am using HttpConnection to Connect to the server.I want to retreive string from the Connection.
    As like Connection.openInputStream() is there any method to get the String from the connection.In the server side also i want to send the String not the stream .
    Thanks in advance
    lakshman

    Just read the string from the stream.

  • Concatenate a string with the results of group-object

    I wrote a script to get the 10 most recent entries in the Windows application log. It works fine, but I would prefer to format the output differently.The output looks like this:server1\
    Count Name
        9 1008
        1 1010
    server 2\
    Count Name
        5 256
        5 258
    I'd like it to look like this.Server Count Name
    server1    9 1008
    server1    1 1010
    Server Count Name
    server2    5  256
    server2    5  258
    Ideally, the server name would only appear once per group, but I'd settle for what I showed above. Where does the "\" after the server name come from? Why are there all those empty lines between server groups?$S = get-content -Path c:\scripts\PowerShell\servers.txt
    Foreach ($Server in $S)
    if (test-connection $server -quiet -TimeToLive 5 -Count 2)

    $output1 = $events | group-object -property Id -noelement | sort-object -property count -descending -ErrorAction silentlyContinue
    $output2 = Out-String -InputObject $output1 -Width 100
    join-path $Server $output2
    else
    {"Could not connect to " + $Server}

  • [svn:bz-trunk] 11030: Tweak the deserialization of ASObjects to treat an empty string for the type of an object as null .

    Revision: 11030
    Author:   [email protected]
    Date:     2009-10-20 11:35:02 -0700 (Tue, 20 Oct 2009)
    Log Message:
    Tweak the deserialization of ASObjects to treat an empty string for the type of an object as null. It appears that there is some logic in the LC remoting code that relies on a non-null class name to always exist. This change reverts to the old behavior of not allowing empty string as a value for the ASObject.namedType.
    This should fix bug 2448442 and its duplicates caused by the recent serialization changes.
    I don't think this is the perfect fix. Pending further investigation, a better fix would be either:
    a. If it's OK to assume that empty string should always mean null for the type of the ASObject, the code that enforces it should be in the setter/getter inside ASObject and not in the deserializer.
    b. ASObject doesn't guarantee that a named type exists or is valid. In that sense an empty string is as bad as some random characters that cannot be a valid class name in java, so depending on how disruptive it may be, the fix should be in any logic that uses ASObject.getType().

    Hi Pavan,
    "In your payload there is no namespace prefix for the elements under PayloadHeader element."
    Yes, you are right - but this message is standard AQ Adapter Header message - it's not defined by me. I just used message which was automatically added to my project when I have defined AQ Adapter.
    "In your process is the default namespace is same as namespace value of tns ??"
    Do you mean targetNamespace? If yes it's different as it points to process "targetNamespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/PF_SOA_jws/PF_APPS/APPS_PROCESS" (names of application and process have changed as I try different ways to do that)
    ns1 is: xmlns:ns1="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/aq/PF_SOA/PF_APPS/PO_AQ"
    "another thing is tns and ns1 should have same values.."
    When I create a variable of header type, namespace ns1 is automatically created for it. I set it as property of receive activity. When process is instantiated on the serwer I get the error in which you can see that namespace is tns.
    Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I don't see how I could fix this in my process.
    You can see that the message I get on the server has nothing in common with the application/project/process names. Is it possible to define such variable?
    Regards
    Pawel
    PS:
    In Transformation xsl file, both variables (source and target) has tns namespace for Header and PayloadHeader, and no namespace for subfields.

    I am working in a new enviorment and i am trying to save a report to the Crystal Server via the CMC. I am uploading the report from the objects tab and attempting to save to a folder. The report has 1 static defined parameter and that's it. When i click submit to save the report i receive the following error message: "There was an error while writing data back to the server: Failed to commit objects to server : Duplicate object name in the same folder." There is not a anothe report within the folder with that name. What could be causing this error message and equally important, what is the solution.

    hte message you received about duplicate user probably means something hadn't fully updated yet. Once it did then it worked...

    Hi Amarnath,
    Where exactly you are getting this error?
    If you are getting at JMS Sender communication channel, try to stop and start the JMS communication channel and see the status, also use XPI Inspector to get the exact error log.

  • Approval task SP09: Evaluation of approvalid failed with Exception: while trying to invoke the method java.lang.String.length() of an object loaded from local variable 'aValue'

    Hi everyone,
    I just installed SP09 and i was testing the solution. And I found a problem with the approvals tasks.
    I configured a simple ROLE approval task for validate add event. And when the runtime executes the task, the dispatcher log shows a error:
    ERROR: Evaluation of approvalid failed with Exception: while trying to invoke the method java.lang.String.length() of an object loaded from local variable 'aValue'
    And the notifications configured on approval task does not start either.
    The approval goes to the ToDO tab of the approver, but when approved, also the ROLE stays in "Pending" State.
    I downgraded the Runtime components to SP08 to test, and the approvals tasks works correctly.
    Has anyone passed trough this situation in SP09?
    I think there is an issue with the runtime components delivered with this initial package of SP09.
    Suggestions?

    Hi Kelvin,2016081
    The issue is caused by a program error in the Dispatcher component. A fix will be provided in Identity Management SP9 Patch 2 for the Runtime component. I expect the patch will be delivered within a week or two.
    For more info about the issue and the patch please refer to SAPNote 2016081.

    Ok what am I mssing

    Hi,
    I am not quite sure where exactly you get an error. Are you trying to prepare an agent that connects to your newly installed LD?
    You did mention the following:
    I was able to ssh from master to LD with promptDo you mean you could login from the MS to the LD without password and got the OS prompt? What you have to make sure is that your ssh authentication works for the n1sps user (or whatever you have chosen during installation) from MS to LD and from LD to RA. That involves copying the public key from the MS n1sps user to the .ssh/authorized_keys files on the LD and RA. And after that, you should check the connections manually:
    1. From the MS: ssh <LD> ls -al
    2. From the MS: ssh <LD> ssh <RA> ls -al
    These both commands should work without any prompts and after that, you shouldn't get any error messages in SPS anymore.
    HTH,
    Michael

  • Two string references pointing to the same object

    Look at the following code snippet         String   s1 = "hello";
            String   s2 = "world";
            String   s3 = "welcome";
            String   s4 = "here";
            String   s5 = "hello";
      They say that references s1 and s5 point to the same object "hello".
    At run time after creating objects from s1 to s4 how the Java run time knows that there is already an object "hello" and assigns a differernt reference.

    When the jvm load the class file, all suchconstants
    found in the class are loaded in a global constant
    pool. when you assign the constant to a variable,it
    uses the same one from the constant pool.Suppose I intialize a string by getiing input
    nput from the console which already exists, in that
    case a new object will be created or the existing one
    be used.A new object will always be created in that case, but you can get a reference to the string in the pool by calling intern. See the javadoc for intern in the String class.

  • How to find the last string value in dynamic object?

    Hi All,
    I am trying to find the last string value in dyanamic objects,Any one have solution for this.
    Ex:
    my data :12347-ebjdone-525-ecgfjf-25236-defdafgdeg
    And i want to show the output is :defdafgdeg
    Any ideas:
    Thanks
    Srini

    For oracle try using oracle function.
    e.g.
    SELECT  reverse(substr(reverse('12347-ebjdone-525-ecgfjf-25236-defdafgdeg'),1,instr(reverse('12347-ebjdone-525-ecgfjf-25236-defdafgdeg'),'-','1'))) from dual
    Object definition might look like:
    reverse(substr(reverse({ObjectName}),1,instr(reverse({ObjectsName}),'-','1')))

  • How to get the HttpServletRequest object in a jsp

    Hi,
    I am a little confused here. Am trying to use the HttpServletRequest object in my jsp. I have set up just a simple test page jsp. How can i use the HttpServletRequest object to get some information about the request for example using the method getPathInfo(). I know i can do this in a servlet and pass the value as a parameter in a doGet method. But how do i do it in a jsp. Can it be done..?
    Pls help
    Thankyou

    The request object is already created for you in JSP, as are many other things
    request - the HttpServletRequest object
    response - the HttpServletResponse object
    session - the HttpSession object
    application - the ServletContext object
    out - the JspWriter object (like PrintWriter)
    So you just use them...
    <%
    String asdf = request.getParameter("asdf");
    %>

    Dear Sir,
    i have been trying to create an edit employee details page
    What i have done till now is as follow:
    1. Got employee id from HTML page.
    2. Compared it with the id stored in the database.
    3. If the id is correct then pulled the record of the corresponding employee and stored it in the session object.
    4. Dispatched the session values to another servlet EditEmpDetails2.java

    6. I also need to be able to edit those vales and store the edited values in the database.
    Please help me as i have tried doing it for 1 week without any clues
    i have tried to create a html page which is something like this:

    String Z = rs.getString(password);
    if(Z.equals(X))
    String A = rs.getString(1);
    session.setAttribute("employeeid", A);

    system.out.println(e)
    I do not know how to put the values stored in the session object into the html text box

    3. If the id is correct then pulled the record of the corresponding employee and stored it in the session object.do you really need to store this in session object?
    5. Now i need to set the session values in the text field of the html form which form? in a new html/jsp page? i suggest go for a JSP
    In your JSP page use JSP expression tags to put the session attributes.
    it's something like : <input type='text' name='employeeid' value='<%= session.getAttribute("employeeid") %>' >and you need to generateanother servlet for saving the details/modifications to the database.
    I think i m clear enough.
    if you need more clarifications. just try it and then post your problem.

  • Can we show the nested objects in Powershell?

    I am adding a .NET type to Powershell session using Add-Type and then creating object of that type using New-Object. This is done as follows:
    Add-Type -AssemblyName OuterObj
    $a = New-Object OuterObj
    Object of type OuterObj is successfully created. Now .NET type $a has a field named innerObj which is object of another .NET type innerObject. So I add "innerObject" .NET type and create an instance using New-Object.
    Add-Type -AssemblyName innerObject
    $b = New-Object innerObject
    Object of type innerObject is also successfully created. Now I do as follows:
    $a.innerObj = $b
    Now when I print $a, it shows something like this:
    innerObj : innerObject
    Thus it does not display the contents of innerObject by default. When I go and explore, innerObj has the fields. I know Powershell does not show the nested objects by default but instead just shows their types, but is there a way I can specify that what
    level of nesting of objects powershell should show by default? Is there something to specify to show 1 or 2 levels of nested objects?
    Any help would be highly appreciated.

    The simplest approach, if you're writing these C# classes yourself, is probably to override the class's ToString method.  That way it will just display that way by default in PowerShell, without any extra effort on the scripter's part.
    If that's not an option, then you can write PowerShell code to accomplish something similar.  Here are examples of both:
    # C# ToString version:
    Add-Type -TypeDefinition @'
    public class innerObject
    public string Property1;
    public string Property2;
    public override string ToString()
    return string.Format("Property1: {0}, Property2: {1}", Property1, Property2);
    public class OuterObj
    public innerObject innerObj;
    $a = New-Object OuterObj
    $b = New-Object innerObject -Property @{ Property1 = 'First Property'; Property2 = 'Second Property' }
    $a.innerObj = $b
    $a | Format-List
    # PowerShell version using constructed property values with
    # Format-List.
    Add-Type -TypeDefinition @'
    public class innerObject
    public string Property1;
    public string Property2;
    public class OuterObj
    public innerObject innerObj;
    $a = New-Object OuterObj
    $b = New-Object innerObject -Property @{ Property1 = 'First Property'; Property2 = 'Second Property' }
    $a.innerObj = $b
    $a | Format-List -Property @{ Label = 'innerObj'; Expression = { "Property1: $($_.innerObj.Property1), Property2: $($_.innerObj.Property2)" } }
