Writing local files from applet

Hi, I want to write an image file from an applet (appletviewer) to the local file system. Does anyone have any idea how I can do it? I tried using the FilePermission class but failed in doing so.

I need to do this too.
Specifically I need to allow the user of an applet to write (text) files to his own local file system.
The applet displays graphical material to the user and I want the user to be able to type in comments to a text box which are then recorded by the applet - and ideally can be retrieved and used by the applet on subsequent occasions - as well as, of course, being available to the user via other programs.
Presumably I need to use a signed applet.
I want this to be as simple as possible so that the user (who will be unsophisticated) can be on Mac, Windows, Unix, Linux etc.
Anyone know a good reference text or tutorial?

    Sign your applet and it should work just like normal file access.

    Hi All,
    I want to access a local file from a JSP. On click of the link the local file should open. The location of the local file is
    O:/VWS00000000000000000001/REPORT_FRAGMENTS/Title1.doc
    and the hyper link on the JSP shows
    file:///O:/VWS00000000000000000001/REPORT_FRAGMENTS/Title1.doc
    somehow the file does not open from the JSP page but it opens from the browser if I type
    'file:///O:/VWS00000000000000000001/REPORT_FRAGMENTS/Title1.doc' in the address bar.
    Can anybody please help.

    Forgive my naivety, but i struggle with JAVA! I am desperately trying to create a JAVA plugin to SERVOY and have to date been successful with a few things. Record, Playback, convert to .spx.
    I am really struggling with implementing a rewind and fastforward function of the type you have. I thought it would be easy, but it appears not.
    At the bottom is the complete code from my class that is called by the servoy plugin wrapper,
    i had thought that adding some simple jump 500 ms would have been easy in something like this:

    Likely this is a trivial question, but I need to open a local file from a Web Service and i don't know how to get the file path. I mean that I have a WS source code placed in a proper package (my.ws.package) with an additional configuration XML file placed in the same directory. I need to read it, but if I use merely
    File conf = new File("Conf.xml");it can't find it. I've tryed with:
    MyWS.class.getClass().getProtectionDomain().getCodeSource().getLocation().getPath()in order to get the file path, but a
    java.security.AccessControlException access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission getProtectionDomain)arises...
    I don't know...
    Suggestions?

    I am facing a proble with HttpURLConnection.I want to write some binary data from applet to an ASP file.The other end ASP file read this binary data and process , Here problem is I have opened URLConnection to the page and Created OutputStream and writing byte by Write() method But other end we are not getting bytes...we are not getting error too at java side..can any body help me..do we need to set any property to URLConnection...here I am giving sample code...

  • How to open a local file from javascript in a jsp-page

    I have created an iview from a PAR file. In the par file I have a jsp-page with some javascript code. From the javascript coe I want to open a new window with an Excel file.
    I have tried window.open("c:
    test.xls", "test_window"), but it doesn't seem to work. I have created a small HTML page locally with the same command and there a new window opens with the Excel file.
    If I change the local file path with an URL it also works.
    Any idea how to open a local file ?

    I'm not 100% (but 99,9%) and it has to do with security ristrictions of the browser not allowing to have local workstation interation from the web. This is ofcourse very dangerous if the browser would allow it... So therfore it is blocked. What if somone would point to a file/executable that formats your drive so for that reason it is not allowed to have web interaction with a local file. Only with Java Applets this is possible but still with many limitations, and what I remember Google Gears and Adobe Air do have some limited web 2 local file interaction... So best and most simple solution you are left with is pointing to a url instead of a file on a c:\ drive.
    PS The reason why it works when you start the html from your local PC has todo with the fact that the browser detects that the html is not running in the web at that moment therefor allowing the access.

  • Uploading large files from applet to servlet throws out of memory error

    I have a java applet that needs to upload files from a client machine
    to a web server using a servlet. the problem i am having is that in
    the current scheme, files larger than 17-20MB throw an out of memory
    error. is there any way we can get around this problem? i will post
    the client and server side code for reference.

    OK - the problem you describe is definitely what's giving you grief.
    The workaround is to use a socket connection and send your own request headers, with the content length filled in. You may have to multi-part mime encode the stream on its way out as well (I'm not about that...).

    I get the out of Memory Error on the client side. I
    was told that this might be a bug in the URLConnection
    class implementation that basically it wont know the
    content length until all the data has been written to
    the output stream, so it uses an in memory buffer to
    store the data which basically causes memory issues..
    do you think there might be a workaround of any kind..
    or maybe a way that the buffer might be flushed after
    a certain size of file has been uploaded.. ?? do you
    have any ideas?

    I am having file which i have to download in the following formats.

    2.ITAB
    3.Rawstring ITAB
    Now am trying this with cl_bsp_utility->download class.....please anybody help how to use this in my application.

    Hi,
    You can't directly access the file system of the end user from a BSP.
    Either you create a link on your web page, either you set the mime type of the response with         runtime->server->response->set_header_field( name = 'Content-Type'  value = 'some mime type' ) in order to let the end user save the file.

    in the report will be link to a procedure that I created to pass the filename. The

    I am running on version 3.07 on NT on my laptop.
    Any idea what I did wrong?
    P.S. I don't want to upload the file using a portal form into the blob field.
