Writing resultSet from a query to an excel file

Hello @ all
I want to download the content of database table to an excel file.
The connection to the database and the selection of the data is not the problem. But writing the ResultSet to an excel file is the problem.
the scenario is: the user clicks on a FileDownload-uiElement and then the application gets the data from the database and the user can store the file on his local filesystem (e.g. c:\template.xls)
I hope you can help me.
Thanks a lot.

I know that I can use POI, but the FileDownload-UIElement which I want to use, needs an attribute of type Resource.
my current code looks like this (will be executed by a method called in wdDoInit):
    ResultSet resultS = null;
    DataSource dataSource = getDataSource();
      if (dataSource != null)
        connect = dataSource.getConnection();
        if (connect != null)
          stateM = connect.createStatement();
          resultS = stateM.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM mytable);
          ResultSetMetaData rsMD = resultS.getMetaData();
          int col = rsMD.getColumnCount();
          IWDResource res = null;
          while (resultS.next())
            String content = resultS.getString(2);
            byte[] b = content.getBytes();
            res = WDResourceFactory.createCachedResource(b, MainTransDatView.FILE_NAME, WDWebResourceType.XLS);
          wdContext.currentResourceNodeElement().setResource(res);

  • Steps to save a Query/Report as Excel file in Share folder

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where i need to schedule a BI report automatically on a daily basis and save it in a Sharepoint folder as a excel file.  I have gone through the Forums but didnt get a clear idea on how to proceed this with.  I read about RSCRM_BAPI transaction but i hope we need to do this manually to save the file each time.  Also, in Broadcaster there are options only to send Email & save in Portal.
    So, if anybody have idea on saving a Query/Report as excel file in a Share folder automatically, kindly help me in suggesting the steps to do this activity.

    Hi
    1. Create Three Floders in AL11 i.e. in Apllication Server. Eg Name it F1, F2 and F3.
    2. First dump the .csv files into F1. (Name xyz.csv).
    3. Then using UNIX/WINDOWS (depends on your OS) script , first check the file is there are not in F1, if yes then rename the file with date and time or date and transfer the files from F1 to F2 i.e xyz06032010.csv.
    4. Then Create a small ABAP program to check the file in F2, if it is there then Trigger the Event, and using that event you execute teh PC.
    5. Then using UNIX/WINDOWS (depends on your OS) script , transfer the files from F2 to F3 i.e xyz06032010.csv
    6. Next day morning F1 and F2 are empty and F3 is having the backup files.
    So use this method, I used the similar logic and it is working fine.
    Timinings are importent i.e what time you need to dump the fule in F1 and what time you need to run UNIX/WINDOWS (depends on your OS) script , transfer the files from F1 to F2 and what time UNIX/WINDOWS (depends on your OS) script , transfer the files from F2 to F3.
    OR
    1. Create Two Floders in AL11 i.e. in Apllication Server. Eg Name it F1 and F2
    2. First dump the .csv files into F1. (Name xyz.csv)
    3. Then load the data using InfoPackage, through PC.
    4. At the end of the load Attach a simple Program to Move the xyz.csv file from F1 to F2.
    5. So next day the file will come to F1 and the it will load and at the end it will move to F2.
    Else  you can use simple one or two lines of UNIX/WINDOWS (depends on your OS) script to move the file from F1 to F2 , once you load is over.
    While moving the file from F1 to F2 you can append the date at the end of the file and then move to F2, it is use full for future reference.

  • How to save query result in excel file

    Hi all,
    How to save query result in excel file from sql*plus tool.
    thank you

    Do you really need an Excel file (binary) or a simple CSV?
    If you just need a CSV then search for DUMP_CSV at http://asktom.oracle.com or at this forum
    If you need formatting and/or multiple worksheets then you can use free tools like
    https://xml-spreadsheet.samplecode.oracle.com/ or https://exceldocumenttype.samplecode.oracle.com/

  • Problem while exporting the data from a report to an excel file.

    Hi SAP guru's,
    I have a problem while exporting the data from a report to an excel file.
    The problem is that after exporting, the excel file seems to have some irrelevant characters....I am checking this using SOST transaction..
    Required text (Russian):
    Операции по счету
    № документа     Тип документа     № учетной записи     Дата документа     Валюта     Сумма, вкл. НДС     Срок оплаты     Описание документа
    Current Text :
       ? 5 @ 0 F 8 8  ? >  A G 5 B C
    !   4 > : C       "" 8 ?  4 > : C      !   C G 5 B = > 9  7 0 ? 8 A 8        0 B 0  4 > : C         0 ; N B 0      ! C <       ! @ > :  > ? ; 0 B K        ? 8 A 0 = 8 5  4 > : C
    Can you help me making configuration settings if any?
    Regards,
    Avinash Raju

    Hi Avinash
    To download  such characteres you need to adjust code page to be used during export. You can review SAP note 73606 to identify which code page is required for this language

  • How to export the result from executing sql statement to excel file ?

    HI all,
    Great with Oracle SQL Developer, but I have have a trouble as follwing :
    I want to export the result from executing sql statement to excel file . I do easily like that in TOAD ,
    anyone can help me to do that ? Thanks so much
    Sigmasvn

    Hello Sue,
    I just tried to export to excel with the esdev extension and got java.lang.NumberFormatException. I found the workaround at Re: Windows Multi-language env, - how do I set English for application lang?
    open the file sqldeveloper\jdev\bin\sqldeveloper.conf and add the following two lines:
    AddVMOption -Duser.language=en
    AddVMOption -Duser.country=USyet now my date formats in excel are 'american-style' instead of german. For example 01-DEC-01 so excel does not recognize it as date and therefore I can not simply change the format.
    When export to excel will be native to 1.1 perhaps someone can have a look at this 'feature'

  • Can you store the resultSet from a query into a vector?

    I am totally frustrated. How the heck does one store the results of a query (resultSet) in a vector so that I can get the vector from my jsp page to display in a table.? searchRS is my resultSet from stmt.executeQuery().
    public Vector storeResultSet ()throws SQLException
    int dataType;
    Vector rows = new Vector();
    System.out.println("INSIDE SEARCHQUERY VALUE OF searchRS: " + searchRS);
    // Get the ResultSetMetaData. This will be used for the column headings
    ResultSetMetaData rsmd = searchRS.getMetaData();
    // Get the number of columns in the result set
    int numCols = rsmd.getColumnCount ();
    columnNames = new String[numCols];
    System.out.println("inside of store results and column count of rsmd is: " + numCols);
    boolean more = searchRS.next();
    while (more)
    Vector testData = new Vector();
    for(int i=0;i<numCols;i++)
    Object value = searchRS.getObject(i);
    rows.add(value);
    System.out.println("VALUE of testData vector is: " + rows);

  • Writing Trace Info to and Opening an Excel File on command

    I am currently using a Read Traces (numeric) vi to collect values from Tags and output them to a XY Graph. Alongside the graph on my front panel, I would like a boolean control to command (when true) LV to write the data to a spreadsheet and open that spreadsheet so it appears on screen, ready for the user to view and then save the excel file where he/she would like.
    Is this possible? I am a little unsure what File I/O functions I need in order to achieve this? I have tried using the "Write Traces to Spreadsheet vi" available in the DSC module, but haven’t had much success. I have attached my code to show you how far I have got.
    Any help with this problem will be very much appreciated.

    Writing Trace Info to Excel File.vi ‏77 KB

    Hi Stuart,
    I have written an example piece of code for you which has the basic functionaliy that you want.
    The example plots random data to a chart. When the boolean is pressed this data is written to a spread sheet file and Excel is opened to display this data.
    As it is a generic solution you need to replace certain items when you incorporate the structure into your code: Instead of writting the history data of a chart you can use the "write traces to spreadsheet.vi" to write the data. The automation of excel can then be used in the same way as in the example.
    There is also an example available in the "LabVIEW Example finder" called "Write Table to XL.vi". This example takes the data from a table and cell by cell inserts it into an excel speadsheet. Which the operator can then save from within excel. However, this method is not the most efficient way to get data into Excel.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • Procedure to write Oracle Query Result to Excel file?

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to write a procedure which will write the result of a Query (select statement) to a Excel file.
    I use a third party tool to do so but it fails when the query fetches more than 65000 records!
    Can someone suggest me a procedure ( may be written in PL/SQL ) which can be used to achieve this task?
    If there is a procedure available readily, can you please share it with me?
    Thanks in advance
    Himanshu Dabir

    There is a ready procedure (actually PL/SQL blocks by Tom Kyte) available at
    http://www.quest-pipelines.com/newsletter-v5/0704_C.htm
    but it also suffers from Microsofts limitation of 65536 rows per sheet.

  • Looking for example to export data from a DynPro table to Excel file

    Hello,
    I have a certain content in a table.
    I would like to export this content to Excel file and let the user save it on his PC. I tried to use the Office Controller but with no success.
    Have someone already made something like this and can show me an example?

    Hi
    I already explained this in another post. Anyway i will cut and paste the same for you.Here you go.Sample way to create a Excel file and then download it to a local pc using a FileUI Download element.
    We are developing a generic component for the same requirement which will download data to a excel from any table.
    Anyway here is something which will give you some kind of idea as to how you can write the data from WebDynpro to a excel file.
    For running this application
    Ensure that the requisite JAR files are set for the Excel API's. See the blog link below.
    Steps :
    All your files in the machine running the WAS will be created in the default location
    Alias : webdynpro/resources
    Path : <Drive>:/usr/sap/J2E/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/temp/webdynpro/web
    You can open your Visual Administrator and go to HTTP provider service and then create your own Alias. say
    Alias : myAlias
    Path : <Drive>:/mydirectory/myfiles
    Once this is done restart your WebAS.
    The code explained will perform the following.
    There is a button UI element and a Download UI element. On click of the Action associated with the button ui element
    The code below will create a excel file in the location mentioned.
    On click of the download UI element you can view the excel file that was created.
    Now create a New project in your NWDS
    Follow the blog for importing the necessary jar files for Excel
    /people/perumal.kanthan/blog/2005/03/21/reading-excel-data-from-java-using-hssf-api
    Once that is done you can create say a button in your Webdynpro and associate it with a action.
    Then you can write some code like the one below.
    //Declare this in the end between the Begin others block.
      private FileOutputStream out = null;
      private HSSFWorkbook workBook = null;
      private HSSFSheet hsSheet = null;
      private HSSFRow row = null;

          cs = workBook.createCellStyle();
          cs1 = workBook.createCellStyle();
          cs2 = workBook.createCellStyle();
          dataFormat = workBook.createDataFormat();
          f =  workBook.createFont();
          f1 = workBook.createFont();
           f.setFontHeightInPoints((short) 12);
    //          make it blue
           f.setColor( (short)HSSFFont.COLOR_NORMAL );
    //           make it bold
    //          arial is the default font
           f.setBoldweight(HSSFFont.BOLDWEIGHT_BOLD);
    //          set font 2 to 10 point type
           f1.setFontHeightInPoints((short) 10);
    //          make it red
           f1.setColor( (short)HSSFFont.COLOR_RED );
    //          make it bold
           f1.setBoldweight(HSSFFont.BOLDWEIGHT_BOLD);
          f1.setStrikeout(true);
          cs.setFont(f);
          cs.setDataFormat(dataFormat.getFormat("#,##0.0"));

        catch(Exception e)
          wdComponentAPI.getComponent().getMessageManager().reportException("Exception while reading file "+e,true);
        //@@end
    You can now add a Download UI Element to the layout.
    Create a Context Attribute say "dataContent" and this should be of Type Binary.
    The Data property of the File UI download element should be mapped to dataContent.
    In the init method write code like
    This is done for the download element.
         IWDAttributeInfo attInfo = wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute("dataContent");
         IWDModifiableBinaryType binaryType = (IWDModifiableBinaryType) attInfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
    //In addition the FileDownload UI element needs for defined resource types
         binaryType.setFileName("testexcel.xls");
         binaryType.setMimeType(WDWebResourceType.XLS);
    Hope that helps you. Anyway its a sample and it should be helpful for you to see how you can modify it and of course maintain some standards in coding unlike the test sample given above :).
    Let me know if you require further clarifications

  • Exporting data from Oracle to an existing Excel file

    Hi,
    I want to know if it is possible to open up an excel file on the server (with the necessary lay-out) and to write the query results in it?
    Another remark: the file needs to be saved under a different name (we use the user name as part of the files since the file will be sent through email rather than be displayed on the user's screen)

    If you are satisfied with a straight dump, you might want to use utl_file to make a standard CSV-file.
    If you need a little more control of the layout, you might want to check out the SYLK file format (quite ancient)
    These require no Excel application and works on UNIX servers too. If you really have to have the full magic (on a Win32 platform) you could try using Jacob or some other Java-COM-bridge to launch the Excel-application and enter the values into the worksheet but this falls into the "duct tape and chewing gum"-category of stability in my opinion...

  • How do I read a range of data from an open and "live" Excel file using LV7.0 Express

    I need to interface with software which continuously (once per second) writes a new array to a fixed location in an open Excel file. I would like to read this data into Labview from where I can do what I like with it. I am relatively new to LabView and have tried all "Read Data" examples that come with the product, Active examples seem very unclear. Anyone got any samples/suggestions to get me started?

    It is possible but might be a little bit complicated. Does your application opens the Excel file or Excel file was opened through Excel or another application already?
    In the first senario, once the excel is opened, start reading the data, do not close the report file (dispose the report) or close the excel file
    In the second senario, it is a little bit more complicated. You need to use low level Excel ActiveX functions. The procedure is:
    1. Open reference to Excel
    2. Activate the desired workbook if it is already opened
    or open a new file
    3. Activate the sheet containing the data
    4. Read the data
    5. Loop if necessary (step 2 if diff wb, step 3 if diff sht, 4 if same sheet)
    6. Close Excel reference (Very important, close the
    ref only, do not use Application.Exit to exit Excel).
    Hope this helps,

  • Export result of ssas query result to excel file

    Hi All,
    I have browsed a SSAS cube. I want to export result of SSAS cube into excel file.
    Kindly give your input.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    I do not know whether there is a direct solution but there is an indirect way of doing it. I always follow this method if I ever want to get MDX results into Excel.
    1 - Install the DAX Studio (I know you want MDX results, so do not get confused by looking at the word DAX. Continue reading). You can download it from the following location.
    http://www.sqlbi.com/tools/dax-studio/
    2 - Once you install DAX Studio, Go to the Add-Ins ribbon. Click on DAX Studio.
    3 - There is an option "Tabular Server" and there is a drop-down list where you can enter the SSAS (MD CUBE Server) server name. Enter the server name manually. If you have multiple SSAS Databases and if you are interested in a specific SSAS database
    enter "Initial Catalog=Your SSAS Database Name" in Additional Options section and Click Connect. You can successfully connect to the SSAS Server now.
    Here are the details described so far in pictorial representation.
    4 - Enter your MDX manually and execute the code via DAX studio and you will get your results right-away in Excel.
    Now, isn't that an elegant way of getting MDX results into Excel :) ? Besides Excel's Pivot Table option, I do not know whether there are any alternate solutions to this but wait for other Pros' comments as well.

  • Retrieving specific information (email addresses) from Active Directory in text/Excel file

    Hello, out there. I'm just beginning to learn PowerShell finally, I'm very interested in learning cooler and better things.
    I wanted to know if retrieving information from Active Directory based on a text or spreadsheet file was possible.
    An example: I have a list of Windows Usernames from an Excel file, and I need to pull what email addresses they have from AD. They're a part of different OUs either. Rather than manually look up each individual account I'm researching a way to grab this
    info.
    I would very much appreciate a push in the right direction.
    Thank you!
    LiQuiD_FuSioN

    Hi,
    Sure, that's definitely possible. You can use the Active Directory cmdlets to retrieve this information. Here's an example of reading input from a text file (just usernames in the text file):
    Get-Content .\userList.txt | ForEach {
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_ -Properties EmailAddress
    You can also read input from a CSV file quite easily. This example assumes a header of Username:
    Import-Csv .\userList.csv | ForEach {
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_.Username -Properties EmailAddress
    Finally, here's a link to the Get-ADUser syntax:
