WRT120N with Windows 7 desktop
I just installed a WRT120N, hardwired to my office desktop (XP) via modem. No prob. I have XP laptop upstairs and get good signal strength. I was hoping for very good, but good is a step in the right direction.
I have Windows 7 desktop upstairs and strength is poor. I replaced a 'B' that was slow but it did work. Did the linksys help line and they suggested I get an N adapter which I'll do but it seems weird since the desktop is so new. It came with it's own wireless adapter and used to work just fine even with the old 'B' router. I saw the listing about changing to 40, the channel to 9 and the other 'stuff' which I did. Windows 7 machine is still nowhere. I'm so tired of my kids complaining that they can't get to the internet that I'm ready to kill them or myself.
Whats the Wireless Settings you have setup on your Router (SSID, Channel, Wireless Security)?
Check if you have Enable the wireless mac filter on your Router, then disable it and then try to connect to your wireless network.

What kind of Mac to you have? This camera is a tape based DV one that connects best with firewire and I cannot tell if your Mac has firewire. If your mac *does* have firewire, get a camcorder firewire cable and try again.
ETA: Oops, I am pretty sure that all the "desktop iMacs" have firewire, so you should be good to go. You will probably need a cord that goes from FW800 to your camcorder. -
Search pdf files with Windows Desktop Search
I recently installed Windows 7 and have attemped to use Windows Desktop Search to search for text contained in pdf files without success. Today I found a reference to Adobe PDF IFilter v6.0 at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2611. I have Acrobat 8.2.1 installed on my computer. Since I couldn't figure out if the iFilter had already been installed, I downloaded the ifilter60.exe file. However, when I ran this exe file I didn't see any evidence that the filter was installed. For example, the above web page mentions a ReadMe file file which is "included with the download" but I don't know where it or the plugin can be found. I'm still unable to search within pdf files. Is there anything special I need to do to install this IFilter?
PeterCan't help directly on the question. However, the generic problem in Windows is that the search will only delve into a list of MS denoted file types. I spent a year looking for a file I had misplaced and did not remember the name of. The following link resolved my issue and now I can search for anything in any file. I followed the registry edit in the response. Editing the registry can be dangerous and you should back up the registry at a minimum unless you know what you are doing. I also do not know if the fix is available in Windows 7. As I recall, I did find it in VISTA. Good luck if you use this, but also be careful. Bill

How to sync MacBook Air with Windows desktop
I have a MacBook Air and I would like have syncronized my documents, photos, movies, calendar, contacts with my windows desktop. I have Itunes installed in both machines. Why is not possible make MacBook Air does the same my IPAD does with my desktop?

If you mean "How do I mange e-mail and/or files between two or more devices"? You have to get organized.
If you have POP3 mail it's somewhat complicated: you set your "traveling machine" to receive (but not remove from the e-mail server) new messages. Realize that if you reply from the traveling machine that message will not show up anyplace but the sent box of the machine from which you sent the reply (you can export/import sent messages via a jump/thumb drive back to the desktop when you cease traveling). If you delete a message from the traveling machine you may/or may not have it also deleted from the e-mail server. All those choices or options are sent in e-mail behavior or options (what it's called/where its found depends on your choice of e-mail client)
The desktop machine is set to download messages from the server. When you are traveling the e-mail client must not be started or running (or you may miss messages on your traveling machine because they were downloaded at home before you turned on your traveling e-mail). Once get home you start your e-mail download all messages still left on the server - delete duplicates and import your sent messages.
If you have an IMAP4 e-mail client it's much simpler you set up the traveling machine to leave all the e-mail on the e-mail server. You will see all the "new" messages AND when you get home you can have the Desktop see/download your mail sent from the traveling machine as the traveling machine was acting as a "terminal". Again exactly how you do this depends on your choice of e-mail client.
For files you would keep a copy (or backup) on iCloud, or you could keep all your work organized in folders that can easily be transferred to jump/thumb drives or accessed through file sharing on your home network. -

I have been using Appigo's ToDo Task Manager app on my Touch for almost 3 years now. With their Appgio Sync conduit, I have been able to seemlessly bi-directionally sync between the Touch and Outlook Tasks on my Desktop. Now Appigo is no longer going to support Appigo Sync. I can keep using this sync conduit BUT I will no longer be able to update my Touch's ToDo app (eventually that will be a problem).
I DO NOT use iCloud and do NOT wish to use iCloud. I also do not wish to keep my tasks (which do contain confidential information) on anyone else's cloud server. Hence, I need the ability to direct sync between my Touch and my desktop.
I've been searching the web and the App Store looking for either a way to keep using ToDo with another sync method, OR another app that will allow syncing between the it on the Touch and my Desktop.
I don't care about syncing emails since they get downloaded on my Touch regardless. I don't care about syncing Calendars and Contacts since that happens whenever I sync my Touch to iTunes. Just Outlook Tasks that need to be synced. I also don't care for Reminders - seems like a waste of space IMHO.
I can't be the only person on the planet that doesn't want to use a cloud server, doesn't have an email exchange server and wants to keep tasks in both handheld device and desktop in sync. Please, please, please, any and all suggestions and help will be most appreciated!! IF I need to go to iOS v 6+, then I will need to purchase a new iPod Touch; a huge expense when the Touch I have is still working fine (but if one has to, one has to).

barbI'm in a similar position. Just recently migrated to iPhone from Blackberry (and liking it) but would only do so after confirming that I could sync Outlook tasks to the iPhone. Using ToDo and Appigo sync was the solution and it has worked fine. And I deal with Calendar and Contacts in a similar fashion as you.
I'm not sure I understand the options. I don't have a basic "cloud as a process objection" and cost isn't an issue.But I do want my tasks to end up synced on both my laptop (on the hard drive) and on my iPhone (and soon to come iPad). A variation on your question. Is there no way to do this?

Printer Sharing with Windows Desktop
I wanted to share my HP Printer over the Wi-Fi network.
The printer is connected to my HP Pavilion Windows PC.
I added the network printer and when i print, it displays error message:
"Connection Error: NTSTATUS_BAD_NETWORKNAME"
How can i fix this problem?

P.S. I tried plugging the printer to my iBook directly via USB, and of course, it worked perfectly without installing any drivers. But it's nicer if i can print via network without pulling and plugging out cables everytime. Also, the iBook can "communicate" with my PC, as both can share files.I've had a similar problem with my HP Printer, I don't get an error message printed but I do when I try to print- it just hangs. Again, when attached there are no probs and the iBook and desktop PC can communicate fine. I looked into it a bit more and found out that HP knew about the problem and were working on driver updates. It may be that this is the problem with your as well and until HP do something about it we're stuffed! Try going to the HP website and downloading the most upto date drivers for ur iBook and PC. It may help! Sorry to be the bringer of bad news!

I recently bought a airport extreme router in order to able to print from my mac book via wireless. everything is nice when I print from my mac book buy I'm not able to print from the pcs. It sounds like you have a printer connected to your Airport Extreme and you cannot print from it. I suggest the troubleshooting steps from the following article to help troubleshoot the printer:

Check for software updates
Be sure that you have the most recent OS X or iOS software updates, and the latest firmware for your AirPortproduct before trying to print.

Disconnect and reconnect
Disconnect the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule from a power outlet.
Turn off the printer.
Be sure the USB cable from the printer is connected to the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule.
Turn on the printer.
Reconnect the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule to a power outlet and wait for it to become ready.
Try to print.
Check your printer driver
Check the website of the printer's manufacturer for the latest driver version.
Reset Printing System
Use these steps on your Mac if the above steps do not help.
Open System Preferences > Print & Fax preferences.
Control-click or right-click in the Printers section on the left.
Choose Reset printing system....
Click OK.
Click the + button to add your printer again.
Try to print.
Still not working?
If your printer still doesn't work with AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule printer sharing, but does work when directly connected to your Mac, contact the printer manufacturer for additional information and to verify that printer sharing is supported.

How do I scan to my desktop with windows 8?
I have a HP 5520 all in one. Ever since i got my new computer with windows 8, I've been having trouble finding my scans. How can I scan a pic to my desktop? thanks for any help!
Hi,
Firstly you need to install printer software and drivers on your Windows 8 computer. After that, you can see an icon on desktop (or use Win key and move to the right to see the icon). Double click (ot touch) the icon and check "Manage scan to computer". Enable this if required.
Now, you can scan from computer OR from printer. I always recommend: scan from computer, this will give more options.
To can from computer, use the above menu
(a) Click scan a Document or Photo
(b) Put orginal on the glass face down,
(c) Click scan from computer, ......
(d) Click Save, remember where to save it.

When I plugged my iPad 3 into my windows desktop on iTunes the device did not show up. How do I get the device to show up to work with it????

My keyboard doesn't work when I connect to a Windows 7 computer with Remote Desktop.
I got a new computer at work that has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it. I set up a Remote Desktop connection from my iMac at home and connected. However, when I tried to use the keyboard, nothing happened. After a little pecking I found that the DELETE key worked. Also, I found that the keyboard would work correctly if I held down the FUNCTION key. Very weird.
My old Windows XP computer was still connected so I connected to it via Remote Desktop. The keyboard works normally there. It has always worked in Windows XP so I was surprised when it didn't work in Windows 7.
I've been searching but haven't found anyone with this same issue. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought an update to the original iPad an iPad 3. In was told that migrating the data from my old iPad to the new will be a snap. Alas, it isn't. My desktop is a new high end PC that came preloaded with Windows 7 Professional and I have had nothing but problems. My earlier computer was XP and everything, including my Apple interface, in particular iTunes, worked without problems. When I was trying to back up my data from the old iPad to my desktop, the only thing it would do is synchronize, then got an error message to download the latest iTunes, which I did but it still did not work. I have a lot of music both purchased through iTunes and a lot of others which were CDs that were copied to the desktop. I also have a lot of books through Kindle and other books in iBooks and audio books from other sources, plus two iPods I want to sync. I need some advise on where I find the back up feature in iTunes so I can copy all the data on from my old iPad. Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her. -
Hi. I have set up the trial versions of Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom 5.6 (ie the Photography plan) on a desktop that I have added a new drive to with Windows 7. Everything works fine BUT it is an old computer and I'm thinking that it may pack up unexpectedly. These things happen. I want to sign up for the Photography plan but I also have a Windows Vista laptop, and that is old too so I may want to put the apps on a new desktop and a new laptop, having already installed on my desktop. That makes three activations. Am I allowed to do this? Cheers. Paul
You cannot have three activations. It's simply not technically possible. If and when the time comes, you simply deactivate/ sign out on one of the old systems and install on the new one. If the system goes belly up, you contact support to reset your account. No need to make it more complicated than that and overthink it.

I have an Ipad2, an Iphone 4 . I want to be able to sync both of these with my Windows desktop and Outlook 2007. I would like to sync to and from the Idevices and Outlook. When I attempt to sync in itunes I get a popup message asking if I want to delete, Merge or cancel. Not wanting to delete of cancel the only option left is Merge.
When selecting Merge all of the entries in outlook are added to the idevice. The next time I merge all of the same entries plus any new ones are added, resulting in older entries being repeated i.e an entry like “John’s Birthday” will appear 5 or 6 times on the same date.
How do I resolve this issue? How do I get the the sync process to add only new entries?This is a great question. First, facetime will not work because it has to establish a Call connection first. iMessage should work, but how to get it going I am not sure. Two great Apps to try are, Viber and Skype. Viber is excellent, it works over WiFi, you can make free calls and free text messages all over the world with other users who have Viber installed. It does not even have to be open on screen to work. Viber does have to recieve one text message with activation code, to activate it, this will be your only hurdle, but maybe Verizon can help you get that one text message. Skype does have to be open on screen however, but this can function like Facetime with WiFi connection. Definitely get Viber free in App Store, and put it on all your iDevices so the old Verizon iPhone can function as a telephone when on WiFi.

Is there something that I am missing in setting up for such a back-up? I am currently operating away from home, using wi-fi for Internet access.

Remote Desktop Session Host USB Redirection with Windows 8.1

I've currently setup this environment (both OS/Client are fully up to date as of today). I am using one server as the Gateway, Web Access, Connection Broker and RD Session Host with one collection.
I am trying to get USB redirection setup to work properly. Some devices work (pen drives/iPhone etc), but other devices (we have a smart card reader we are testing that works natively on my Windows 8 machine) that doesn't appear.
I see conflicting information wherever I go on the internet on how to get this working. Some places suggest modifying the registry on the client machine, other places suggest you need to add a customrdpproperty to the collection.
What is the proper way to get this working on 2012 R2 with Windows 8.1?Hi Gavin,
