WSUS 3.2 on Server 2008 R2 with SQL 2012 STD

Hi
I have a Windows 2008 Server R2 with SQL server 2012 STD on it, his is a VM(hyper v) and not connected to the internet machine.
I want to install the WSUS Role on it an it fails every time..
When installing the Role it fails with this error:
"he update could not be found. there may be a network connection issue."
I tried installing it using the installation .exe from Microsoft website
and also faild with this message:
"Windows server upate services 3.0 sp2 setup cannot continue. please resolve the following issues, and the run the setup again.Internet Information Services (IIS) or additional IIS role service
must be installed.
please refer to windows server update services 3.0 sp2 release notes for more information about prerequisites"
I must point that IIS IS INSTALLED and running on this server.
Does anyone knows how to solve this problem?
Thank you!!

I want to install the WSUS Role on it an it fails every time..
While not directly related to your situation, it's important to note that SQL2012 is
not a supported platform for WSUS v3.2. Be sure to install with the Windows Internal Database instead.
When installing the Role it fails with this error:
"The update could not be found. there may be a network connection issue."
The key here is in understanding HOW the WSUS role gets installed on a Server 2008 R2 system. The binaries used to install the role are NOT present on the OS image, they must be either downloaded from the Internet or obtained from another WSUS server with
the Dynamic Installer approved.
My guess would be that this system does not have Internet access. If you don't have another operational WSUS server, then this system will need to have Internet access to download the required binaries from MU, or else you'll need to download the standalone
installer and install it manually.
I tried installing it using the installation .exe from Microsoft website and also faild with this message:
"Windows server upate services 3.0 sp2 setup cannot continue. please resolve the following issues, and the run the setup again. Internet Information Services (IIS)
or additional IIS role service must be installed.
I must point that IIS IS INSTALLED and running on this server.
Ahhh.. was it previously installed for some other application. Have you *verified* that it is installed in a configuration that is compatible with WSUS?
HINT: WSUS is, fundamentally, an IIS6/ASP.NET v2 application. My first guess would be that your existing installation of IIS7.5 does not have the IIS6 components enabled.

  • SQL 2000 LINKED SERVER ERROR 7303 WITH SQL 2012 ON WINDOWS SERVER 2012 R2

    Hi all,
I have a problem with SQL Server 2012 and a linked server for SQL 2000 database.
    System specification:
    Windows server 2012 64 bit
    SQL SERVER 2012 64 bit
REMOTE SERVER SQL 2000 32 bit
I've installed sql native client 32bit,create a SYSTEM DSN odbc connection with "SQL Server" driver named "MYSERVER".
Create a linked server with the query below in SQL 2012:
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver @server =N'MYSERVER', @srvproduct=N'MYSERVER', @provider=N'MSDASQL', @datasrc =N'MYSERVER', @location=N'System';
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname=N'MySERVER',@useself=N'True',@locallogin=NULL,@rmtuser=NULL,@rmtpassword=NULL
    GO
but when i browse the linked server i receved error 7303.

You need 64-bit MSDASQL. It is the bitness of the server you are connecting from that matters. 64-bit executables cannot hook into 32-bit DLL.
However, I suspect that you will not get things to work anyway. At least I have not seen anyone this far who has been able to set up a linked server from SQL 2012 to SQL 2000. I know that when I tried this, the following providers had this result:
SQLNCLI11 - does not support connections to SQL 2000.
SQLNCLI10 - failed with some obscure message that I don't recall.
SQLNCLI - Don't recall that the problem was here.
SQLOLEDB - SQLOLEDB is always replaced with the most recent version of SQLNCLI, so this fails because of lack of support.
I don't think I got through all version of the ODBC drivers, though.

  • Mouse not working in Virtual machine (win2k3 32 and 64 bit) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies

I have installed two virtual machines(win2k3 32bit and win2k3 64bit ) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies (Beta) enterprise. Mouse is getting lost inside VM (using CTRL+ ATL +  LEFT ARROW  comes mouse control control in host OS).
Is there any setting to make mouse works? Insert Integration Serice setup Disk operation succeeds.

     all credits for mike_something
The problem is that the old mousedriver is hooked to the mouse device class.
To remove this dependency, go into the registry and navigate to the key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Remove the value msvmmouf from the UpperFilters Regvalue.
    Reboot....
    tadaaa!!
If you wish you can take out the drivers completely by deleting these registry hives completely :
    The driver:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\msvmmouf
    The Service:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VPCMap
The CopyHook Shell Extension: ( for folder access )

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\CopyHookHandle rs\VPCCopyHook
After a reboot you can delete the "Virtual Machine Additions" folder from program files...

  • I can not update a Windows Server 2008 R2 with Software Update Group in SCCM2012

    Hi all,
I got some problems with update deployments these days.
I try to configure SCCM2012 to update 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 (with Hyper-V / This server is in a cluster)
Actually i've 4 other Hyper-V servers and i would like to add one more in the cluster called Hyper-V5. To do that i need that all Hyper-V servers use the same Windows Updates.
I created a collection for my Hyper-V servers and then a Software Update Group with all needed updates (checked the list of another HV-Server).
I did a deployment on this collection using this new Software Update Group.
I checked the Sofwtare Center's logs on the Hyper-V5 server and i saw that synchronization has a successfull state.
But there is no updates installed or displayed in Sofwtare Center.
Here is some screenshots : Oh no i can't post image because ... "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account." waiting to be verified since months.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Have you try to run Software Updates Scan Cycle and Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle Actions on the client? Please check ScanAgent.log and PolicyAgent.log to see whether the client received the updates deployment policy.

  • Is DTS supported in SQL server 2008 R2 with Compatibility level 100?

We have a DTS package which executes one stored procedure.
We have recently switched SQL server compatibility level from 80 to 100.
On Compatibility level 80 it was working fine.
When i switched the level to 100, and executes DTS it shows successfully executed but stored procedure doenot really executed.
When i execute stored procedure in query analyzer it executed successfully and results were as expected.
Please let me know Is DTS supported in SQL server 2008 R2 with Compatibility level 100?

We have just implemented DTS packages on SQL2008R2 using the Backward Compatibility Tools (serarch for SQLServer2005_BC.msi)
    You need the files:
    SQLServer2005_BC.msi or SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi
    and SQLServer2005_DTS.msi
After you install these, perform the following -
    1) To integrate DTS Designer with SSMS:
    Copy the files SEMSFC.DLL, SQLGUI.DLL, and SQLSVC.DLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE
    Copy the files SEMSFC.RLL, SQLGUI.RLL, and SQLSVC.RLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\Resources\1033
    2) To integrate DTS Designer with BIDS:
    Copy the files SEMSFC.DLL, SQLGUI.DLL, and SQLSVC.DLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE
    Copy the files SEMSFC.RLL, SQLGUI.RLL, and SQLSVC.RLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\Resources\1033

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 with Tools Evaluation Copy

    Hello,
Is the SQL Server 2008 R2 software (SSMS, BIDS) still available for evaluation download?  I was only able to find the Express edition, but I cannot open my solutions using Express.  I tried to upgrade Express to Evaluation, but I get the below
    error.
    Rule Check Result
Rule "SQL Server 2008 R2 edition upgrade" failed.
The selected SQL Server instance does not meet upgrade matrix requirements.
    OK

    Hello,
SQL Server 2008 R2 Evaluation Edition seems no longer available on Microsoft Download as you can see on the following link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8158
However, if you are a MSDN subscriber you can download the full media of any paid edition of SQL Server 2008 R2, run SQL Server setup and choose Evaluation Edition
on the “Product Key” page of SQL Server setup.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 SP1

I'm encountering error after error, after successfully installing the upgrade advisor (which took some doing) and running it with essentially no warnings/errors (the one warning was on the connection strings, as I recall -- and all of the warnings had a
    "fix after" status.
First failure involved SSRS and the inability to create the "managed account". Backed out the upgrade using http://sqldbanotes.blogspot.com/2013/10/how-to-fix-failed-in-place.html
Now the failure involves SSAS and unable to connect to analysis services with name MSSQLServerOLAPService.  That is the logical name for the service, although it shows up as just MSSQLServer when looking at it in the services list.  I tried
setting the service account to a local account as  well as to Local System -- did not make a difference, the upgrade couldn't apparently find it regardless.
Has anybody successfully done an in place upgrade from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012?

  • How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012

How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012.
I BACKED UP a SQL Server 2008 database from work, which runs the enterprise version of 2008, and I tried to RESTORE it to my new 64-Bit home PC which is running the new SQL Server Express 2012 64-Bit (Advanced Edition).
But if fails. I get the following message text.
Can anyone help me please. I thought restoring a 2008 database to the later version 2012 would be possible.
Here is the error message. Thanks.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    Restore of database failed. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.RelationalEngineTasks)
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 8.00.2039. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3128. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a
backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)

backup, or use a backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)
Are you sure your database is SQL server 2008 from error message it seems your SQL server version is 2000.I guess you have multiple versions of SQL server.
AFAIK you cannot restore backup of SQL server 2000 to 2012 directly .Restore it first to SQL 2008/2008R2 or 2005 then take backup again of new database created and then you would be able to restore it on 2012.Its kind of intermediate way
Also make sure your DB size is less than 10 G as max DB size supported by Express edition is 10 G and if your DB size is more than 10 G restore will fail.
You are also trying to restore enterprise DB backup on express edition so you will loose enterprise features on express edition

Migration - its a content db backup/restore/mount to new farm with sql 2012 from sql 2008 r2
Okie here are the results after we tried to narrow down the issue to few steps-
This issue happens on documents that are already existed in the content db prior to migration. we picked two docs from one library. DOC A and DOC B of close to same size..
DOC A - file size 64k, rbs max size set to 1mb.
Regular User and SPAdmin both can open fine, check out n check in successfully.
no entries made in event vwr of front end and DB server
DOC B - file size 64k, rbs max size set to 1mb
SPAdmin - can check out n open fine, but cannot check in back - file not available error
Regular User - cannot open the file - file not avialable at the url
Both users can view doc properties at lib level..
Errors found in event vwr of DB server -
"FILESTREAM file named with GUID '00311100-0000-51eb-f3a8-0b387bc5c5ce' that belongs to
FILESTREAM data file ID 0x10001 does not exist or cannot be opened."
    and
"The operating system returned the error '2(The system cannot find the file specified.)' while attempting 'FsDoHandler::CreateFile' on 'H:\Blob_Store\a06953ae-6f49-43b1-9c2d-fefb13bda9fe\1c581a4a-b450-4143-bc3d-8d419b49b0fb\0000eb20-000066ff-0002'
    at 'fstrman.cpp'(2075)."
I incline to believe that the references for documents in blob store could have been corrupted for some documents during the migration. Any new docs uploaded to content or to blob are all accessible fine.
I'm not sure running .migrate() will re align the blob file references? Any ideas on how to effectively get this resolved..

Now we are planning to move this ISCSI Disk to another SQL 2012 Standard Platform and then upgrade the SQL 2008 Databse to SQL 2012. Can some one please let me know what challenges we might face during this implementation.

    It depends if you want to move all, or just some, of your databases to the new server. If you need to move all of them that link describes the process but in short;
Backup and restore all databases to the new server
Configure the server roles and logins for the SharePoint accounts on SQL
Create (or modify) your SQL alias to point to the new server
