X freezes (UNSOLVED)

i am using "wmii" on Arch Duke and i see my screen was just got frozen when i was working. even "C-A-F2(3,4...)" was not working. strange thing was, mouse was working without any problem but as i said nothing else was working. i was not even able to kill X as "C-M-backspace" was not working :-(
any idea why it froze like heaven :-)
(or it was "wmii" problem ?)

  • [Workaround/unsolved] Hibernate freezes sometimes (pulseaudio/nvidia?)

edit: adjusted thread title because "stuff got weirder" in post #6. Due to the newly discovered random aspect of the problem I can't really tell any more, how long it has been occurring (or been there undetected) - most information given by me in the OP might be useless.
Hibernating worked fine and was reliable for several months. Don't remember having changed any system files lately and nothing that directly has to do with hibernating at all since I switched to systemctl.
Hibernating looks normal first, but the machine doesn't power down - just shows black screen and doesn't do anything. I've been able to switch to a unused tty but couldn't login (it just freezes). Machine did not react to power acpi button event... after turning it off, it booted just normally (no resume from hibernate).

There were kernel updates earlier (mar 05+6), but unless I read something wrong I rebooted afterwards and hibernated successfully, so that can't be it I guess...? Tried downgrading nvidia, but that didn't change anything. Didn't see anything else in there that arose my suspicion:

"Free" looks fine, too, I guess (no way the ram image thing could get too big for swap):
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 7,8G 2,7G 5,1G 0B 64M 1,3G
    -/+ buffers/cache: 1,3G 6,5G
    Swap: 31G 0B 31G
The latest kernel update (I think there were two since I started investigating this problem) did not change anything. Same with arch stock kernel.
I've been trying to fix that for a while now... Ran out of ideas a few days ago. Any hints?

Problem might have something to do with nvidia hdmi sound / pulseaudio.
I noticed that it occurs, if I remove the nvidia sound device ("echo 1 > /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/0000:01:00.1/remove") AFTER I start Xorg (/xfce4 etc).
Maybe pulseaudio (or something else that's started by the session) makes hibernate freeze if it fails to remove a sound card that was there when it was started?
Haven't tested further yet. For now a workaround is simply: making sure that the annoying extra sound device I don't wand to use is always removed BEFORE I do anything else (using a "rc-local.service").
Not sure if I'm going to find the time to figure out what exactly the problem was and write a bug report somewhere (because I already broke something else in the meantime and need to fix that ), but I'll try. Any ideas what I should be taking a closer look at first?
Hi, it seems I am suffering from exactly the same problem and seems it started once I installed pulseaudio.
I am using arch for many years and never had such a problem but never used pulse also. Have Nvidia 560TI and an integrated into the motherboard sound card. Sometimes, when hibernate fails, there's a line about an nvidia related error/warning (will make a photo next time). All the other symptoms are the same.
Will try to remove the sound card before the hibernate next time. Also killing pulseaudio may help as well (will try also).

  • Chromium freezes while typing in the omnibar

    KDE base runtime 4.8.0-1
    Chromium 17.0.963.46-1
    AdBlock Plus 1.2
If multiple tabs are open, typing into the omni-bar will sometimes cause chromium to freeze after a few keystrokes. Removing the ~/.config/chromium directory, thereby resetting the profile, seems to make the problem go away. But allowing the profile to sync again makes the problem show up again. So it seems to be a corrupted profile, but the directory structure under .config/chromium is massive, so I don't know what exactly is causing the issue.
Running chromium under strace shows the following at the time of the freeze:
    rt_sigaction(SIGCHLD, NULL, {0x7f3bade5dbf0, [], SA_RESTORER, 0x7f3ba97db270}, 8) = 0
    clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_CHILD_CLEARTID|CLONE_CHILD_SETTID|SIGCHLD, child_tidptr=0x7f3bad55abd0) = 20490
    wait4(20490,
If I kill -9 20490, the child process mentioned in the clone() syscall, chromium resumes and continues to function normally. Upon doing so, the strace log continues with:
    [{WIFSIGNALED(s) && WTERMSIG(s) == SIGKILL}], 0, NULL) = 20490
    --- {si_signo=SIGCHLD, si_code=CLD_KILLED, si_pid=20490, si_status=SIGKILL, si_utime=11, si_stime=19} (Child exited) ---
    rt_sigreturn(0x11)                      = 20490
I suspect there is some kind of race condition involved, because the problem seems to happen less frequently when chromium is running under strace (and therefore slowed down by all the logging going on).
I am right now running on a recently-reset profile that is only syncing Passwords and Extensions. I manually imported my Bookmarks via an HTML export. I've only been using chromium for a couple of hours since that last reset, but it hasn't locked up yet.
I've looked at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=129632 already, and it seems to be very similar to my situation but remains unsolved. Also, Chromium has exhibited this behavior across updates to the kernel, KDE, and Chromium itself. So I don't think it's a version-related issue that will just go away.
Can anyone make any suggestions on where to go next? I'm new to Arch Linux and KDE, so some obvious things are often Big News to me, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. TIA for any ideas or suggestions.

I looked at the question you referenced. Do you have a large address book as 'tektite' did (over 5000)? I can give you a link to the daily version for Ubuntu if you would like to try it. (I run on Ubuntu 14.04 also).

  • Photoshop CS6 computer freeze

I'm having a continual issue with Photoshop CS6 (13.0.6 x64) completely freezing my MacBook Pro when doing the following action:
    Edit > Transform > Scale
I am able to use this action instead without any issues:
    Edit > Free Transform
    About my Mac:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

If the whole computer freezes (can't force quit, have to reboot), then you are looking at an OS bug, a low level driver bug, or defective hardware.
Applications cannot cause a system hang, shutdown, or restart.
Given that MacOS 10.10 is a new OS version with a number of unsolved issues, it is most likely a driver or OS bug that you are hitting.

  • FCPX 10.1.1 freezes all the time, who can HELP?

    Hi,
I am on a deadline with my project and FCPX won't move anymore. There must be a million reports at Apple now, because I forced a stop contiuously, but I don't expect any direct response that can help me. Perhaps the next update.
I started a library, created events and projects. The latest project went slower and slower and came to a stand still. I discovered, that the project properties indicated 720p and 1280 x 720, both of them I never use. All my footage in this project is 1080p and 1920 x 1080. Could that be the reason of freezing? And if so, how can I get out of this corner? Does anybody know and is willing to help?
Some details: I use iMac, late 2009, 16GB internal memory, 2,8GHz Intel Core i7, OSX 10.9.2 (13C64). Can't create a new event or project. Even tried to delete the affected event and project, tried to delete the original media in the event, but all I ever see is the colorful ball, turning like it is fun to be stuck while time ticks on.
Luckily I still have a MacBookPro, which I didn't upgrade (still Lion), still on FCPX 10.0.9, so I can al least stumble on, but I am not amused.
    Who can help me?
    Paul
BTW, I am a follower of this forum for a long time now, but could not sign in because of problems with my email addresses. Still unsolved, but I decided to create a brandnew email address, just to be able to finally participate in the forum discussions.

You are probably bumping into the limitations imposed by your old-ish mac.
16GB is good, but I am sure you'll be limited by your hard drive options...
What kind of hard drive, and how is connected? How much free space does it have? These are likely to cause bottlenecks, especially dealing with HD material, like you are.
If you are using the internal hard drive, or an external on USB2, I can see how your editing will likely crawl.
Even the likely best option for your mac, FW800, is not fast by today's standards.

  • Transfer "large" files (above 300 mb) freezes Airport?

I know - this is already mentioned in this forum - but the problem still remains unsolved (and I have filed an error report with Apple). However, perhaps someone can help me (and yes... I did hfs+ format my External HD...).
Setup; iMac and Vista on boot camp and a Vista MCE on a separate machine. When I try to transfer files between the two systems with file sizes of 300+ mb, the transfer freezes and nothing can be transfered... in Vista I have to restart explorer and in Leopard the disc suddenly become unavailable... so what to do? throw out my Apple extreme N router? or something else... I have already tried using FTP, but the transfer of files still does not work?

Some additional things that I've tried since the original message:
    - Reinstalled Snow Leopard back to 10.6.0. When booted from the installer, and then re-booting after it completed, the OS could not detect the Airport card. After a Shut Down and reboot, it still could not detect the card, but after an additional cycle, it came back up. However, a large file transfer still caused it to fail again (~100 MB into a 300 MB file)
    - I can cycle the power to the Airport card successfully if there hasn't been a reason for it to fail yet.
    - The failure also occurs during an FTP put operation.
    - Other people's suggestions for solving "Airport card not found" regarding creating a new location are ineffective. Only power cycling the computer seems to resolve the issue.
As I said, I'm really starting to suspect hardware issue, but if there's anything else to try, I'd be happy to give it a shot. I'm about to start a clean install of Snow Leopard to an external disc to see if it still happens there as well.

  • Keyboard freezes when the notebook heats up.

I've had six HP laptops/netbooks since 2010. the current two, one of them is DM1, which is constantly freezing the keyboard when the notebook heats up. and the other is the G62, which is always overheating and it burns my fingers. I'm waiting for something to happen. I will not put any under repair. I will hit the laptops with a hammer, throw both laptops through the window. then I go to the store, buy an ASUS, an ACER or even a MAC, and post the video on youtube. I'm tired of the HP! thanks for the help to unsolve all the issues. best regards

Have you installed all of the latest software updates for your MacBook Pro?

  • WORBENCH FREEZING RANDOMLY USING IOTECH Parallel datashuttle

We have been building special pupose torque machines for the oil industry using initially ISA daq modules and later IOTECH DataShuttle modules via the parallel port. Since we changed to Windows XP we have a long term unsolved problem. The workbench experiment simply freezes randomly either after a few minutes or some hours. The worksheet has been unchanged for this application for many years. We tried to alter all settings we could to improve it ie, changing the port settings to advanced and allow any interrupts etc. but no resolution was found.
Is there a better driver (Currently 32.dll) ? Can we change more around on the PC BIOS to accomodate this better ? We would have abandond Dasylab would it not have been for some machines are already delivered and operating with this snag.

    Hi Alexander,
Thanks for the further information. Given that the DAQ card you are using is a non-NI product, i.e. IOTech's, the driver will either be IOTech's, or DASYLab-specific. As such it is not an NI product supported directly by National Instruments.
Having said this, you will have to contact either IOTech's, or DASYLab's support centres to request assistance.
    DASYLab support: http://www.dasylab.com/index.php?action=home
    IOTech support: http://www.iotech.com/kb/search_ext/index.html
In my opinion, given that you are operating under a new operating system (XP), I would suggest you contact IOTech first to see if this is a known issue, and if they have a fix.
Apologies that we could not help directly. If there's anything we can do then please let us know.
    Best regards,

  • Safari slows down/freezes completely when streaming video

I do not usually have this problem, and it is not with every site. Certain sites with embedded video content (YouTube, Google Video, etc.) do not have this problem. This problem only occurs when I attempt to stream from a video link.
This is how the scenario goes almost every time:
I click the link, Safari goes to a blank page with the QuickTime symbol in the middle. Soon after (5-15 seconds), the mouse beachball occurs and Safari basically freezes. If it does not freeze, it will lock up for about 10 minutes, the fans in my Mac Mini will go wild (spinning abnormally fast as if attempting to process a very, very large app or task. It is also quite loud for any type of computer or process. This problem also occurs when Safari freezes completely) and will eventually cause my computer to lock up entirely. I have had this problem for about 5 months now, and have looked at the forums to try and solve this problem numerous times (there is no Rosetta check box on my version of Safari btw, so I could not attempt that fix; I deleted my QT plugin and restarted Safari; I attempted the various fixes with QT in System Pref and MIME pref). I would appreciate if none of those answers would be listed.
Please, if anyone has any clue how this problem works and how to fix it, let me know. This has been plaguing my computer for far too long.

I did not make myself clear enough: the link does not open a new page, but rather in the same page as the original site. In other words, the video opens and plays in Safari in the same page. I do have a program, Flip4Mac, that deals with video, but I do not believe it affects QT movies because it apparently only deals with .wmv files and not .mpeg or .mpg files. My QT is also Pro, by the way.
When I stream the movies (if this is considered streaming), I let them download fully in Safari before playing them. I know when the video is beginning to load because a preview (screenshot, per say) of the beginning of the video appears and the QT menu (status bar, play/pause buttons, etc.) appears around the video. Unfortunately, Safari usually never gets to that point and locks up before the video even begins to load.
Also, when I adjusted the MIME settings, I messed around with the video, miscellaneous, and streaming tabs. I attempted to try each change with a restarted Safari with no luck. Are there any other MIME settings I should be looking at? If not, how else could I attempt to fix this problem? I have tried downloading the video, and it works from there, but it takes about 10 min. to download when it takes only about 30 seconds to stream/download in Safari. Thus, I would prefer it working in Safari, not only for convenience, but because I don't like problems going unsolved on my computer. Thanks to all so far for giving advice, at least.

  • Skype on Mac Randomly Freezes Up and I need to For...

Hello there! I have a Macbook pro OS X version 10.8.5 and I am having issues with it where I'd be on the line and sometimes it would just freeze up and the call would drop and I cannot do anything with Skype anymore but Force Quit it. Skype just literally stops working and I would have to force it down and restart it. It's been happening everyday for the past 3 days just recently.
Version 6.9 (517) Skype and it literally just happened again in a call. It says Application Not Responding on the dock and I've tried waiting nothing happens. I must force close it >< when I do it just disappears from my dock. After this happens I try to open it again but it says I have one already running and I must restart my laptop in order to get it to work again. What is the problem and what can I do? Thank you!

"Similar problem unsolved. It happens during calls and after sleep. Symptoms: "not responding" shown in Activity Monitor; skype  frozen; need to frequently force out and relaunch.
    Skype ver 6.9 (517) on Mac 10.8.5
Tried re-installation and did not work. Seems that this problem started after some Apple update.
Look forward to solutions from Skype."
Absolutely the same for me. Skype, please solve this ASAP!
Everyone who has the same problem, please post here, in order to draw more attention to it!

  • Imac 27 late 2009 - since november the processor (intel core 2) is continuously surcharging, music stops, movies freeze...

    Hi,
Since November the processor of my iMac is very easily surcharged. I've looked in several posts and I discovered about the spotlight question, so I've disabled it since I don't really use it anyway. The problem wasn't fixed. Then, reading that it was a lion problem I tried to go back to snow leopard, but the problem still wasn't fixed at all. So I've been back to lion, I even added several gigas of RAM, now I have 16G. the problem is still unsolved. Even if I'm just listening to some music or watching a movie with every other application closed, from time to time the music stops several times, movies freeze etc. It seems like it's not the operative system, it's not the RAM, it's not a real surcharge, and when I look in the activity monitor nothing really shows up. I am clueless, but it's really really annoying.
Thank you in advance for every suggestion...

OWC has an upgrade program for 2010/2011 iMacs where they figured out how to replace hard drives without tripping up the sensor the iMac is expecting. See http://blog.macsales.com/11638-owc-turnkey-program-for-2011-imacs-announced .
Some have talked about installing a HDD fan control program to turn down the fan, and some don't consider that a solution.
In Germany, someone came up with a custom circuit that keeps everyting in working order:  http://www.gravis.de/blog/imac-2011-freie-festplattenwahl-dank-gravis-cbreeze/
I've got to believe that someone will develop a more easily accessible option as more iMacs need hard drive replacements.

  • IMac 20-inch 2.66GHz intel core 2 Duo Freezes.

iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz intel core 2 Duo Freezes. I'm running OSX 10.8.4. Please don't tell me the problem is the memory, because I've read a lot of people complaining about the same problem back on 10.6.2 version. I know I need to put more memory on that, but I'll not purchase more right now because I'm not sure it'll worth it. Unless I discover the real solution, I'll not invest in this computer. I've been using Apple products for over 12 years and it's the first time I have an unsolved problem. I'm really sad about that.
Did someone really discovered what happens?
    I'll appreciate a solution.
    Thank you.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Install of 8.6 or 9.0 freezes

Tried searching for a bit, but I didn't see anything in this forum that helped. If I missed something, I apologize--please point me in the right direction!
Got out the old beige G3 to play around with the other day. I decided I wanted to attempt to install OSX on it since I've got a zif 1Ghz upgrade sitting around and some extra hard drives.
My tale begins with a fairly stock G3. The original (I'm guessing) 6GB hard drive is an Apple OEM drive, but it has passed on. It had OS 9 on it and was running fine. Since the drive died, I decided to start with a new hard drive and 8.6 since the tower (by the way, it's a Rev. A) came with 8, right? I figured, perhaps wrongly, that the best path to OSX would be by running all the proper updates through OS 9. Sounds like 10.2 is fairly stable for the G3 tower without lots of tweaking, so that's what I was shooting for.
Well, here's what I did to prepare the drive and computer:
    Pull extra RAM
Pull personality card (only card installed)
    Replace PRAM battery
Set drive and CD-ROM to master
Boot to open firmware (set-defaults, reset-all)
    Reset with p-r-opt-cmd dance
Then I booted to the 8.6 install disk. I ran disk setup and initialized the 80GB ATA drive (WD Caviar) with two partitions (7GB and 73GB roughly) since I was planning on working my way up to OSX and have read about the 8GB partition limitation. Just in case I installed the drivers for the disk with drive setup after I initialized it.
Restart, boot to 8.6 install disk. Run the installer, selecting the ~7GB partition. It freezes with four minutes left. That's not good!
I had three RAM modules, so I started from scratch and ran the whole procedure from top to bottom with each module. Same thing.
Tried the OS 9 install disk. At this point, I was a little frustrated. Maybe my install disk was messed up. Nope. OS 9 install freezes with seven minutes left every time.
Is it possible that all three RAM modules are corrupt? This computer has been sitting for quite some time. The PRAM battery was toast, hence the replacement. Oh, and by the way, the only things hooked up are the CD-ROM and hard drive. No ZIP or floppy attached during the installation attempts.
Am I missing something super obvious?
Thanks for taking the time to read this poor tale. I look forward to being enlightened.
    b

Jon - My goal now is to get this machine back to where it was in the not so distant past. I'd prefer not to start pouring money into it if I'm not sure that it will work. I'll keep that in mind if I do find a solution to my problem, or if I can fairly definitively narrow my problem down to the motherboard.
BDAqua - Thanks. I knew the reset-nvram didn't work on this firmware, and I--probably mistakenly--assumed that doing the p-r-opt-cmd dance took care of that reset. I'll try that in about an hour.
While I'm sitting around, I decided to test one more variable--the CD-ROM drive. Booted to the OS9 disk and initialized my 80GB disk. Then I used Disk Copy to copy the CD to a later partition. I'll install 8.6 until it freezes. Believe it or not, it'll show the flashing disk with question mark, and eventually boot 8.6. This is not so with OS9. If I let that install until it freezes, it won't boot at all. So I'll try to boot up 8.6 with another hard drive attached, and attempt to run the OS9 installer to install on the other hard drive. At this point I'm grasping at straws. I'm not even sure the installer will run if it's not on a CD.
So I'll try the reset after this (probably fails).
    thanks!

  • MSI VN220GT MD1G|GeForce 220 GT - causing lock ups/screen freezes

Hi, I've been searching everywhere for my problem, and the things I find usually are left unanswered :(
I recently upgraded my old graphics card (GeForce 7300 GT) to the GeForce 220 GT, at that time I was using Windows XP SP3. Everything went fine then, I downloaded the newest driver from nVidia (195.62) and restarted, everything went smoothly.
It was then my computer started to freeze, to the point where I can't do anything (mouse/keyboard unresponsive). I am forced to force reboot. This freezing usually happens randomly when there's nothing to provoke the problem.
So I decided to upgrade to the new Windows 7. I did everything it told me to and everything went very well. But the problem still occurs, but more often, and around 30 minutes after logging in. I got the Windows 7 32 bit version of the new nVidia driver (195.62) and installed it. Did nothing. I have also tried to update windows which also did nothing.
These forum threads ask the same question I am now asking:

I did some more research on the net and it seems this PSU is labelled under many different names. I found a Portuguese site that did the test for this unit and then used the google translator tool.
    refer to http://www.clubedohardware.com.br/artigos/1818/1
    Some translated extracts:
The Coletek is a national brand aimed at the OEM market, or its source is aimed at companies that assemble PCs They have a separate brand for products geared to the retail market, the C3Tech. Today we test the model LC-8460BTX S (which, despite its name, is an ATX and not a BTX) that is sold as a source of 450 W. Really?.....
....Speaking of curiosity, in Figure 7 you can see the marking of the type of fuse in the circuit board of the source. All sources bring this information. But the curious thing here is that the marking indicates that for a source from 150 to 200 W a 5 A fuse should be used and to a source from 230 to 300 W from a 6.3 A fuse should be used. As this power supply uses a fuse of 6.3 A, we have a source between 230 and 300 W, according to their own existing markup on the printed circuit board thereof. As the manufacturer can turn that into 450 W on the label of the source is a magic that Mr. M can not explain.....
....The Coletek LC-S 8460BTX burned when trying to draw about 225 W (which would be our test number seven). So the most you can pull it was about 190 W (which would be our test of 200 W). More information and video on the next page.
So I recommend that you perhaps translate the whole article to get the full results. In your case, I believe the PSU should be the first place where you should try something a bit more realistic before you do anything else.

For a system with a 220 installed PSU with +12V~30A minimum is recommended. My recommendation is to get nothing less than a quality PSU such as a Corsair VX450W +12V~33A. That junk PSU is typical of the worthless ones that are often provided by case manufacturers and examples of similar units that can be purchased for as little as $10 (USD) on eBay.
Thank-you so much guys, you've most likely have just diagnosed and gave me a solution for my problem
At first I never knew all PSU's were different, and that my new graphics card could handle whatever I had in my system at the moment.
I don't think I will bother checking my PSU if my current PSU is a Okia or a Xion, I may as well upgrade the thing anyway
Just some things I need cleared up though:
Firstly, is it the Corsair VX450W that I would want to buy and install to run my card? Is it affordable?
And secondly, are PSU's hard to install/upgrade? Where can I find a guide/tutorial for this kind of thing?

  • Lock-ups/freezes - Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

Hi all, I have been the owner of a MacBook Pro since August or so. My problem is that when working with my MacBook Pro, occasionally the display freezes up. Sometimes it recovers, sometimes the machine refuse to recover. If I listen to iTunes, I hear the music playing on in the background, which indicates that this is an issue with the graphics chip, and not the computer in general.
I have searched the Internet, and it seems I am not the only one who has issues with the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT. According to slashdot.org, Apple acknowledges that this may be an issue (http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/08/10/11/1518246.shtml).
Have anyone else experienced these kinds of issues, and if you did, how did you solve them?

Hello! I am feeling a little more secure now that there have been quite a few posts about the poor preformance of the nVidia cards in the SR Macbook Pros, its comforting to know this isn't an isolated issue. I've gone as far as contacting Apple to let them know of the poor preformance. They've were, as usual, very nice and as helpful as they are allowed to be. Currently, I have a replacment on the way apparently, my original was deemd DOA I believe. However, it seems at the time all we can do is report our issues to Apple. My main concern is the legnth of time these machines have been out, and the amount of units sold to unknowing customers who are being sold on what Apple is marketing as a strong feature of the machines: the graphics card. When in reality, the card is extraordinary, the preformance in OSX is extremely poor. It is up to us as consumers to let Apple know how aggrivated we are.
Please, take the time and send your responses and feelings to Apple. You can do that here:
