X1 Carbon 256gb PCIe in North America

Hi,
I'd like to know when the 256gb PCIe option for the X1 Carbon will be available. At the moment only the 512gb PCIe option is up and its a whopping $700. I checked the european sites and it seems to be available over there and so I dont understand why its not availbale here.

I'm looking at the 2015 X1 model on Lenovo Canada's website. One way to confirm this is by the CPU options, i5-5200U, i5-5300U and i7-5600U. These are all the latest Broadwell-U series processors. The only PCIe SSD is 512 GB. Also the MTM for this is 20BS, not the previous 20A7 and 20A8.
Another anomaly is that if I select the base i5-5200U CPU the configurator won't let me upgrade to 8GB RAM. I have to select the  i5-5300U and pay $100 for that in order to have the opportunity to pay another $100 for the RAM upgrade. Hopefully this is just an anomaly in the configurator and not some silly marketing limitation.
Added: I found this parts list via Google: X1 Carbon Gen 2 MT: 20BS, 20BT. It shows several motherboard FRUs that have an i5-5200U with 8GB RAM.

  • Colour Profile issues between North America and Europe

I have a corporate colour, C80M80Y0K0 which creates a very attractive shade of purple. Within North America all printouts demonstrate very similar variations of that purple colour. We have an office in UK that uses the same collateral pieces. While they preview correctly on screen, they are unable to reproduce that purple in their office or with their professional suppliers (all digital processes). The resultant colour is blue (approx C92M68Y18K0).
The files are created in Indesign, using a process colour within Indesign, and then exported to a PDF and shared with the UK office.
My guess is that it is a colour profile issue - has anyone else had this same issue, and if it is indeed a colour profile issue, what profile would you recommend using? I've tried using some of the other default profiles within Indesign but with no luck.
Any assistance would be really appreciated.

The resultant colour is blue (approx C92M68Y18K0).
What preset are you using for the Export, or what are the Output settings? Have you tried PDF/X?
PDF/X-4 will leave color unchanged and profile everything, so a color change like you are describing most likely means the wrong output profile is being used in the UK.
PDF/X-1a forces everything into your doc's CMYK space and makes conversions at output less likely—with X-1a your 80|80|0|0 mix will probably be output unchanged.

  • IPhone 6 - worth buying in North America to use in the UK??

    Hi there,
I live in the UK, but thinking about buying an unlocked iPhone 6 in an Apple Store when I'm in Canada next week. I've seen a lot of discussions around compatibility and antenna issues for 4G when using a phone bought in North America in Europe, but many people say it shouldn't be an issue at all. I'm using Giffgaff, which is part of O2's network.
Can anyone give a clear answer to whether there will be any issues with using the iPhone 6 in the UK??
Thanks so much for your help.
    NJ

if you buy an unlocked iPhone in Canada it should work with a supported carrier in the UK - whether LTE works will depend on the LTE frequencies used by carriers in the UK and whether those frequencies are in the Canadian iPhone
you must buy it unlocked - i dont know if they sell carrier subsidized phones in Canada but if you were to buy one of those it would be locked to the Canadian carrier and phone calls made in the UK would be charged at roaming rates
One important thing to be aware of is the iPhone warranty is no international - its only valid in the country where the iPhone was purchased ( the EU is considered 1 country for warranty purposes) - so if you needed a repair you would have to take or send the Iphone back to Canada - also Apple will only return the repaired iPhone to a Canadian address

  • "North America General Purpose 2"-color setting back on every start : PS CS5, Win 8.1 HELP

    Hi,
have a problem with my Photoshop CS5 Color Settings on Windows 8.1. Maybe there's already a thread but haven't found.
If I close and reopen PS my color settings are gone and back on "North America General Purpose 2" with sRGB. Have to change every time I open PS doesn't matter if I'm admin or user. Why doesn't PS leave my settings as the default the next time it opens?
Any ideas? Cause this is very annoying ...

Could be a problem with the Color Settings. Open it up and press the Alt key. The Cancel button will change to Reset. Click on that and it should place it to default. The Custom settings should hold.
If not, you can use the Save button, give your Custom setting a name, add some notes and Save it.

  • Who's Implemented E-Recruiting in North America?

I am looking for a list of all companies or client descriptions who have implemented/implementing E-Recruiting in North America.
    Here's a start...
    -Purdue University (Realization)ECC 5.0 / ER 6.0
    -Halliburton (Realization)4.6 / ER 3.0 SP11
    -Mentor Graphics (Live)
    -Manitoba Hydro (Live)
-Mid Technology Manufacturing client (Prep) ECC 5.0
Reward points will be given for each response.
Extra points if you know the technical architecture (stand alone, integrated) and version of SAP (4.6, 5.0, etc.)
An SAP consultant said only 8 companies in North America have either implemented or are implementing.  It was also mentioned that all implementations to date have been stand alone.  I have a hard time believing both of those statements.  I am looking for a company/client who has implemented an integrated solution to assist with technical architecture understanding.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
I have also heard eight, not including current ramp-up customers, in NA.  Worldwide, the number is closer to 30 but many more licenses have been sold.  I have no names to contribute but you might check with your SAP AE, if you haven't, as they can provide those who are referenceable.  Your SAP consultant should be able to contact the Product Managers for eRec and get as much of this information as is available to customers for you, as well.
I understand one customer is either live or implementing on one instance, but remember, this wasn't possible until ERP2004.  Also, customers may decide against this option for security reasons (perhaps not justified but they may feel better having external data on a separate instance.)
    I'm sorry I can't provide more information.
    Regards,
    Sharon

  • Can I use a Japanese model in North America???

I have a Japanese model Airport Extreme (MA073J/A) and I can't seem to get it to work. What do I need to get it to work?

Hello c_piercey. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The Japanese version of the AirPort should work, but be aware that this version supports additional radio channels (12-14) that are not available in North America. Just be sure to change the channel to within the 1-11 range.

I have a PowerBook G4 17" and need Apple discs to set it up again. Mine lost during move. Screen seems damaged, has vertical lines.  Can anyone help. I can call as I have unlimited calling on my iPhone 6  anywhere in North America.

    king,
If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America.

  • Re: Firmware Updates in North America (NAM devices...

I have bought an E75-2 (NAM device) 2 months ago.  I have noticed that I cannot upgrade this phone with the latest ver. 200 firmware, compare to the euro devices.  The E75-2 works, but not perfectly (this device should work better than this!!).
As Nokia is selling this phone in North America, I would think that any software fixes should be applied to the whole product line, rather than regional only.  Especially the software and fixes are common amongst all E75s.
Nokia, you have very good product here (the E75).  But you must Get Your Act Together, and provide the service that all Nokia's customers deserved.  Please have all upgrades available to all your customers, as all good customers (not just the ones in Europe and Asia) deserve the best service Nokia can provide.
Ps. When are we going to receive the Free Navigation GPS software for the E75?
    Regards,
    A-Not-So-Happy-Customer

Something weird is happening to E63 firmware.
I had v200, skipped v300 (don't know why) installed v400. Then I learned v410 was released, I went to website, to check it with my product code but no updates for me. Later I discovered than v500 was released, ran nokia software updater but latest I found is v410. Great! I updated it and waiting for v500 for North American losers, such I am. Yesterday went to the website to check it with my product code and got info that latest fw for my device is v200. Weird, ha? Just now checked it again and first time saw "Sorry! No software update available for this product code via the Nokia Software Update Tool. ".
Are they fixing it or they just decided to ditch us all?

  • How full can I let a 256GB PCIe SSD get?

    Hi all,
How full can an SSD get before it becomes a problem/degrades performance or causes excessive wear (or will Apple's wear leveling take care of the excessive wear potential)?
I'm looking at a 2014 2.6HGz model with 16GB of RAM and the 256GB PCIe SSD (I don't think I want the Fusion Drive), but I suspect it's too new for anyone to answer that question about that specific machine, so I'll ask it in the MBP and/or MBA forum if I don't get an answer here.
Don't know if it would be any different with a 2.5" form factor SSD, but if anyone has any info on that, that would be helpful too.
I've tried googling and haven't found an answer yet, so here I am.
I'd be running 10.10 with FileVault 2 turned on and using TimeMachine via external HDD. I have about 120GB used on my current HDD so that's about what I'd have on the new one. At this point in time, I'm sure that free space is not an issue, but I wonder if it could be as the SSD gets more and more full.
    Any help is appreciated!

I've had many SSD's, starting out with the Intel X25M-G2 80Gb. Often there are recommendations of 7% over provisioning and I regard that as a minimum.
I've been doing a LOT of reading on this since my OP. It sounds like some manufacturers hide the 7% so it's safely stashed away so users cannot get rid of it, while others don't, but it's a recommendation as you've stated.
Due to the work I was doing I used 20% which leads to a speed increase and to a longer life expectancy. At one stage I had even allocated more but it was overkill. For "normal" usage I would be somewhere between these two extremes.
I like to be safe, so I like the 20% idea.
I've just ordered the 2.8 Ghz model with the 256 SSD, for me it is the model that has the "sweet spot" and I'll be wanting to have at least 15% free space.
Does that leave you room for expansion for the length of time you expect to keep the mini? Or are you using an external drive to store data on?
Wonder if you've looked at my other thread asking about the 2012 quad vs the 2014 dual i5? I think I'm leaning toward the 2014, and was thinking about the 2.6, but then saw that an upgrade to the 3.0 was also an upgrade to an i7, granted for $200 more. And I think I'd like the 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM to make sure for the future (this $699 mini is getting awfully expensive!).
This free space can be unallocated (as in "not partitioned") or a part of a partition that is not filled up completely.
It's getting late and I'm going cross-eyed from reading so much, so perhaps that's the reason, but I'm not following you here. Would you mind explaining a bit more or a different way?

  • Which North America Profile to Use?

I am using Abobe Creative Suite CS5.5.
Which setting should I use in the Adobe Bridge's "Suite Color Settings," North America General Purpose 2 or North America Prepress 2?
I do mostly print, e-book PDFs and some web graphics. I understand Prepress 2 is better than Purpose 2. Especially since Prepress 2 uses Adobe RGB (1998) while Purpose 2 uses sRGB IEC61966-2.1. I read a thread that sRGB is also referred as "stupid RGB."
Also, which options do I need to deselect in the "Profile Mismatches Policies" and/or "Missing Profiles." I want the profiles to embeded automatically without the warning window popping up in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. It was convenient when I did not getting these warnings when I was using Purpose 2.
I am not sure if this is related to my question above. When I open a logo created in Adobe Illustrator, I keep getting the "Missing Profile" window. No matter which option I choose, this window keeps appearing when I reopen the EPS file. How do I fix it so that the profile is embedded and the window stop appearing?

Which setting should I use in the Adobe Bridge's "Suite Color Settings," North America General Purpose 2 or North America Prepress 2?
Basically your question is not about Bridge but about Color Management and there are a lot of books written about.
The option to set Suite color settings is what it says, you should synchronize your settings Suite wide so whatever application you are working on has the same appearance. If you combine that with a correct monitor calibration your system should have the WSIWYG workflow (What You See Is What You Get :-0 )
The general CMYK Settings are based on your needs but the most important question should be "what Color profile does my client need?" and you should set that profile to the document and save this with the color profile embedded. Probably you have set Adobe RGB in PS as standard profile. You can use soft proof in PS to see what the real effect of the new profile will show.
Contact your eBook or Web graphic supplier to match their color profile.
You have to see color profiles in a graphic (do a google search) to understand them better. Adobe RGB is capable of showing the widest Gamut (more and deeper colors), sRGB a bit less and CMYK even lesser (Print press uses Cyan, Magenta and Yellow for colors and adds blacKs for contrast and  is a complete different technic to ink jet that uses RGB (Red Green and Blue).
You can set the options for converting to whatever you like as long as you are aware of what you are using. You can't mix different profiles without consequences for the end result. If a file shows 'missing profile' it has no color profile saved in it. And that is the dangerous part in saving without color profile, you can't be sure that what you see on your screen is what the creator meant.
The message will stop if you provide a profile yourself.
But as said, their have been many books written and it is a wide subject... :-0

  • How to change color setting to north america prepress 2

I just got off the ohone with Epson for 2 hours and they think that the reason my prints are coming out a little dull (or dark) is because I need the color setting to be changed to north america prepress 2 with the working space being Adobe RGB1998. I am not a techie and I have no idea what this means, but it's worth a try to ask you folks who do.
I have an Epson Stylus photo printer r3000 with an Epson perfection v600 scanner.  Apparently the reason my prints aren't coming out right is because the printer isn't communicating properly with the right color settings?  I'm at a loss.  ANY help would be so so so greatly appreciated!!
    Steph

What program are you using, photoshop or photoshop elements? If PSE, then there is no way whatever to set anything to prepress, so I'm guessing you really  have full photoshop, in which case you need to ask in the photoshop forum:
    Photoshop General Discussion
    Good luck!
