X11 Error
I'm using weblogic 6.1, SP2
i'm using a servlet to ouput some graphic charts (bar, pie chart)
However, i'm getting the following errors:
Servlet failed with Exception>
java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the
value of the DISPLAY variable.
at sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.initDisplay(Native Method)

you may want to set the DISPLAY environment variable and also
do /usr/openwin/bin/xhost +
This has nothing do to with WLS.

Both VLC and mplayer are unable to display video (sound is ok). mplayer complains

I am able to play the same file with
mplayer -vo x11
but no fullscreen with -vo x11 (which is to be expected), and I see no reason why the xv output should not work..
This is on Dell Latitude D530, intel GM965/GL960. I've switched to arch from gentoo, where it worked, week or two ago.
Any ideas what can be wrong?

Try mpv, mplayer's cousin.
Does it happen only with one file? Run mediainfo on it.
Edit: Are you using SNA or UXA?
Compare version numbers and configs of the respective packages of gentoo and Arch. Only what's to blame - the drivers?

X11 errors with mono and keepass
I've been trying to get KeePass running to no avail. I've tried custom mono installations as well as pacman installations. I'm using the most recent portable version on keepass.info.I receive the following as an error and would appreciate any guidance. If it helps, I'm running catalyst drivers. Thanks!

Error when trying to install oracle client (can't connect to X11 error)
Hi guys,
I need help to install Oracle Client 10g. I am quite a novice so I am totally hopeless when it comes to difficult or linux-kind-of-terms.
I can't use GUI at all, so everything got to be done through putty.exe
my local pc (where the putty is, IP 192.168.8.194) -> linux red hat 4 IP 192.168.8.31 (where the oracle client should be!)
when I run the runIntaller I receieved error mentioning about DISPLAY variable haven't set yet.
I did set it trhough putty as follow

export DISPLAY
no luck...I still hit an error that eventho this time the error is like below;

When I run the xclock using GUI I can see it pop up on my screen, but when I run xclock trhough putty, I see that it just went blank...is that right because I am using putty or what?
Can you guys please help? Everyone that had this problem like find the solution real easy...I just so frustrated because this setting is just not working, and I have no idea what to check. Do I need extra library or something to install this?
Please remember that I can use GUI in my test server but I can't use any GUI at all when I am implementing this.

You are right. putty is just a simple console without X11 in it. how come it didn't even cross my mind?
Thanks for the reply. I solved it by using third party software called xdeep, from what I got from internet looks like this and the software you were talking about hold the same purpose. This xdeep is pretty easy to configure and in just few seconds I can launch the installer! Gee...!
For those guys that having the same problem as me then find xdeep software from google and browse on the configure webpage. I found a step by step configuration setting from the internet too and it's real easy.

X11 ERROR: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Hi all,
I've problem with X11 on os x 10.6.2.
Every time I move my macbook pro from office to home (and viceversa)
X11 needs to be quit and restarted otherwise I get the following
error:
Xlib: connection to ".0" refused by server
and X11 won't launch windows. Now this error is certainly linked
to the fact that the computer changes IP address.
What's the best way to solve the problem ?

When start X11 I get the following error messages:

Within X11 the keyboard mapping is ok though - however if I login to a Linux server via openNX the key mapping becomes totally messed up.
This was not the case with Snow-Leopard (10.6.6).
I re-installed X11, tried with a fresh user definitevly not having any .X11 settings somewhere - no change...
Any help greatly appreciated!This is so close. Everything works great except upper case E. It just comes out lower case. Here is the output of xev when I type an upper case D and an upper case E. Very strange.

I can't recall disk drive
I've had this problem since I first built this PC towards the end of March of this year. Every time I try to play games with Direct X11 enabled I can only play for about 5 minutes before I get some repeating green spots on my screen and either the program crashes to desktop or the PC just locks up. The games that I have played on all vary, Shogun 2: Total War, The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, RIFT, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. When I disable DX11 everything runs smoothly and nothing happens. Only when DX11 is enabled.

I have RMA cards twice, sent it back to newegg once. It seems to be a problem with this line of cards. No matter what drivers I update, or rollback, or change, nothing seems to fix this problem.

It works fine with VLC using the codec avc1 , so the fix might be to use coreavc codec with mplayer, unfortunately mplayer-coreavc-svn from AUR does not compile :S

Ffplay doesn't play video after using chromium
Primarily my VLC stops playing movies after a while of using PC (and I think it stops working after first youtube video in chrome... I have chromium with gtalk and google talk plugin, stackoverflow.com and youtube opened... and the only one that seems to me to be related to video is youtube).

VLC opens and runs audio but with no video.
In chromium, video runs just fine.
I think (I'm not sure) that first youtube video stops vlc/ffplay from working properly.
Further more, after setting video output to X11 instead of "Default" in VLC videos start playing again, but still no luck with ffplay.
Output device set to X11 works (although with some errors):

[SOLVED] [mpv] Fallback to software decode SLOW with vo_vdpau/vaapi
EDIT 02/01/2014: Since mpv 0.3.0, the opengl renderer, which works perfectly fine with software-decoding, now also works with vaapi/vdpau hardware-decoding, so just setting vo=opengl and hwdec=auto should really be enough to utterly avoid the problems I was having back when I made this post. A lot of the "info" I gave later on in the thread is also actually bogus, I'll tweak that in a second.
I've been reading the documentation for mpv, and there's something I can't quite figure out.
My CPU isn't especially powerful, so it's important for me to be able to use hardware acceleration where possible. I'm using the proprietary ATI driver; VLC works fine with VA-API, and since I discovered libvdpau-va-gl I've been able to get mpv to work using VDPAU. Obviously, some files (*cough*, Hi10P, *cough*) can't be hardware-accelerated, and this is where my problem/question comes in.
In my mpv config file, with
vo=vdpau
I'm able to play normal h.264 video effortlessly, but when HWaccel isn't available mpv falls back to software-decoding and software scaling (ffmpeg/swscaler, as per the console output). The problem is, with the CPU already working to decode the Hi10P content, my A-V desync skyrockets, and it's all a bit of a mess.
If I play the same Hi10P file with
vo=opengl
, then it doesn't desync at all. I checked the manpage and it says I can concatenate possible video outputs with a comma, and it will try each in turn. Obviously I'd like the not-hardware-decodable content to be rendered using OpenGL, rather than whatever causes them to get fed to "swscaler". So I set the config line to
vo=vdpau,opengl
. However - the opengl option never gets used! The non-HW-decodable files still end up being fed to swscaler, and as a result desync wildly, unless I manually set to opengl for that file.
Is someone here familiar enough with mpv to be able to explain why I might not be getting the behaviour I expect from listing multiple video outputs in the config file; or even better, how I can configure mpv to do what I actually want?
If there's somewhere else I should be asking this, please let me know. I couldn't find a dedicated mpv forum or anything (or even an IRC channel for questions), but I could have missed something.

>the vo_vdpau mode for mpv continues to handle file playback even if the vdpau hardware decoder won't initialise
>>i.e. vdpau itself calls the software decoder, and then handles the calls to a software renderer
>because I'm using VDPAU in an indirect "wheels within wheels" library, it's slow as all hell
Solution:
UPDATE: READ THE POST BELOW, A BETTER SOLUTION HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED
>mpv-git has native VA-API support, vo_vaapi
>compiling and using this works perfectly
>the vaapi handler is able to much more efficiently handle the calls to software decoders/renderers
>8bit h.264 files play fullspeed using hardware decoding

Note that it's still a little slower than using opengl or xv, which is kind of odd. wm4 on IRC mentioned he might be able to do something about this, by implementing the (hackish, apparently) thing that VLC does, so that vo_vaapi doesn't have to use swscale (slow) before rendering; but I'll wait and see if that pans out.
TL;DR - People using the proprietary ATI driver should compile mpv-git and and use vo=vaapi
@Roberth: I actually did have that enabled, but whether it was or wasn't enabled didn't affect the problem I was having. After all, the problem was with vo_vdpau calling software decoding in an inefficient, roundabout way. vo_vaapi still isn't as efficient at this as it should be, it seems, but it's better than vo_vdpau was on my setup.
@kaszak696: As far as I was aware, sws=0 was the default behaviour, but I do recall forcing that at one point with no effect. Either way, my particular problem is solved/worked around now! Well, almost.

I've tried to compile my own mplayer and that works great. Would be nice if the arch version worked as wellTried it, but to the same result
What I found out is that the user can play videos from console with framebuffer at least. Not that it helps.. -
Audio CDs get "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
Hi All,
This a near-duplicate of a message originally posted to the Snow Leopard forums.
A couple months ago I upgraded to 10.6.4 from Leopard and configured a Boot Camp partition running Windows 7. Yesterday I discovered that whenever I put any audio CD, retail or burned, into the Macbook's drive I now get this message - "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" - with the options to ignore or eject. Disk Utility displays no unusual information, but a check of the system log on Console turned up this:
Sep 8 11:05:21 Hard-Drive diskarbitrationd17: unable to probe /dev/disk1 (status code 0x00000047).
Has anyone encountered this problem before? I suspect it's related to Boot Camp but not to the initial installation - CD reading worked fine right after the install. Note that this only affects CDs - Burned and retail DVDS read without any trouble.

P.S. The CDs tested include one just out of the shrink wrap, so please, no "have you checked your CDs they may be scratched" replies.Thanks, but no thanks. This is a software/hardware (driver?) issue, not a hardware issue alone. I kept a bootable backup copy of my 10.5.8 installation on an external drive, and a quick restart into that yields a desktop where CDs still load perfectly. I'm looking for power users with specific experience with this particular error and insights into what is causing it in 10.6.4.

I have a thinkpad with a ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Radeon Mobility M300] graphicscard. The card works fine, but when I try to play video in mplayer with the xv-driver I get this error:

MPV: hwdec=vaapi fails and falls back to software decoding
I've always been confused by setting up hardware decoding - but a couple of recent threads reminded me of this nagging issue and I took another shot at it. Yet despite all the claims that mpv should support vaapi, it is simply not working here. I've followed the instructions here yet mpv falls back to software decoding every time. I've been searching for related issues, but I can't seem to find any reports from intel graphics users.
The output from mpv:
$ mpv --vo=opengl --hwdec=vaapi video.mpg
Playing: video.mpg
[stream] Video (+) --vid=1 (mpeg1video)

Mpv's man page suggests that vo=vaapi should only be used for old hardware, though it doesn't specify how old. I gave that a try too. That avoids the GLX error, yet still falls back to software decoding:
$ mpv --vo=vaapi --hwdec=vaapi video.mpg
Playing: video.mpg
[stream] Video (+) --vid=1 (mpeg1video)

I have all the drivers/packages listed on the intel graphics wiki page.
I must be missing something obvious here - the guides seem to suggest this should 'just work' yet mpv keeps falling back to software decoding.I was hoping you'd chime in on this one Gusar. Thanks to both of your for the suggestions. So far no joy, though. I installed libva-intel-driver-g45-h264 and tried again and received identical output as in my initial post. I also tried xf86-video-intel-git which also gave no change.
To be clear, the video plays just fine, but it just relies on software decoding.

As I'm pretty ignorant about video drivers, I'm curious if there are some video files that just would not be able to be hardware-decoded? I've tried a small number of different videos and am getting the same results with all of them, but if there are video-file constraints, are there any sample/testing videos around I should use for debugging?
