X11 fullscreen mode broken in Leopard - fix available / planned?

Hello,
in Leopard, X11 fullscreen mode doesn´t work.
Is there already a fix available?
if not is a fix of this problem planned?
As we can see here: http://aaroniba.net/articles/x11-leopard.html it is possible to install Tigers X11, but I´d prefer a fix of the version, which comes with Leopard.
Martin

There is a fake way.
To fake fullscreen support with Xephyr:
$ Xephyr -ac -fullscreen :9 &
$ DISPLAY=:9 twm&
$ DISPLAY=:9 xterm &
It works ok on mine.

  • Fullscreen mode broken on OS X

    If you try the following code in AIR for OS X and Windows you find that Windows correctly DOES NOT fire the ACTIVATE event when fullscreen is executed but OS X does:
    window.nativeWindow.visible = true;
    window.nativeWindow.stage.displayState = runtime.flash.display.StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
    window.nativeWindow.addEventListener(air.Event.ACTIVATE, function() {
      air.trace('ACTIVATE');
    window.nativeWindow.addEventListener(air.Event.DEACTIVATE, function() {
      air.trace('DEACTIVATE');
    I've filed a bug for it in bugbase... but not sure how long Adobe take to fix bugs in AIR... and this is preventing my app from working as expected.
    The reason is because I need to fire the fullscreen mode on activation of the window (fired after a user has deactivated the window) so it forces fullscreen mode for the app.
    window.nativeWindow.addEventListener(air.Event.DEACTIVATE, function() {
    air.trace('DEACTIVATE');
    window.nativeWindow.minimize(); // this hides the window
    window.nativeWindow.addEventListener(air.Event.ACTIVATE, function() {
      air.trace('ACTIVATE');
      window.nativeWindow.stage.displayState = runtime.flash.display.StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE; // reshows the window and makes it fullscreen
    This works perfectly on Windows. But because OS X fires the event on fullscreen, it calls fullscreen again... and occasionally creates duplicate windows (which is another bug that only happens on OS X if fullscreen is called more than once and doesn't happen on Windows - again filed on bugbase).
    Any ideas on how I can get around this in the mean time, until Adobe fixes the bugs?

    Any updates? The bugs haven't had any progress on them over at bugbase either. Thanks.

  • Exit x11 fullscreen mode

    Hello,
    I have Mac OS X 10.5.7 and recently installed x11 v2.0 I am just testing it in the full screen mode.
    On my other mac 10.4.11 I can exit full screen mode and switch back to Desktop with (CMD H) but that does not work on the new system. Somebody suggested on Apple forum to use (CMD ,) but that does not work and only way I found to exit the full screen mode is to kill X from the shell. Is there a way to switch between x11 and Desktop?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    I suggest you update your x11 to the latest version. the one that comes preinstalled with leopard is 2.1.6. The latest version you can get from macosforge is 2.3.0. in x 11 preferences->output check the box to enable full screen. next to it it will say that to toggle full screen on/off you enter commandoptionA. works for me.

  • No Thumbnails, no fullscreen mode

    Apart from the fact that it is practically impossible to empty the iPhoto trash (I've tried each and any piece of advice suggested here) sometimes fullscreen mode is suddenly no longer available for some pictures (although it was the day before) so that I only see grey blank squares. Another interesting little feature if iPhoto 6.0.4 is the fact that some pictures suddenly show up as ghosts in the thumbnail view (i.e. I only see black squares). The comments, however, are still there. I can of course re-import the pics, but doing this a couple of times really annoys me.
    Is there any way to make iPhoto 6.0.4 behave and cooperate?

    mdlamh
    1. The important thing is that your originals are safe. If you have any doubts, back them up to your external hard disk. Whatever about iPhoto, the pics are most important.
    2. Given that you have tried to re-build the database with no luck, plus tried to restore it from back up (it's likely that the backup is of your corrupted file by now) and that none of these have worked, would you consider trashing iPhoto and it's associated files and starting over with a re-install? This would allow you to begin again, and allow you to build and review your library as you recreate it. It's possible that this problem is caused by a corrupt jpeg file, or even a faulty installation of iPhoto.
    3. If you do conside this option, I can only re-emphasise BACK UP YOUR ORIGINALS in a folder away from iPhoto, and away from the Library folder.
    If you need help with this option - which files etc. to trash - feel free to ask.

    May I know what might cause this problem?
    I m usng action script 3, flash cs3 & all my browsers
    already upgrade to latest version of Flash Player.
    Help!!!

    I am running Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite and iPhoto Version 9.6 (910.29). Automatic updates in the Mac App Store is turned on for my iMac and it shows no updates available. I was told directly by Apple Support on the date that I wrote this article (Nov 8, 2014) that there were no Canon drivers and photo transfer software that worked with Yosemite. I was told by Canon that the workaround was to change the communication method from Normal to PTP on the camera, which did provide a solution. At that time I was running Mac OS X 10.10 (because the 10.10.1 update was not yet available) and the most up-to-date version of iPhoto for Mac OS X 10.10 that was available at that time, at least per the Mac App Store. I was told by Canon that the workaround was to change the communication method from Normal to PTP on the camera, which did provide a solution.
    With the Mac OS X 10.10.1 update if the camera is in PTP communications mode the thumbnails now appear in the Import screen in iPhoto almost immediately. If the camera is returned to Normal communications mode; however, it takes forever for the thumbnails to appear. I have been waiting 10 minutes and iPhoto has generated only 14 thumbnails. So it appears that there is still something not working properly between the original Canon EOS Digital Rebel and Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 when the communications mode on the camera is set to Normal.

  • Photoshop: values for type, brush, crop, lasso etc tools broken on Leopard

    I posted this in answer to another thread, but decided that it may be helpful to some Photoshop users if it had its own topic:
    The following is a technote copied from Adobe's forums, regarding the performance of several menus for key tool settings in Photoshop CS3 running in Leopard:
    *Changing values for type, brush, crop, lasso etc tools broken on Leopard*
    *Kirsten Harris - 08:58pm Nov 15, 2007 Pacific*
    Adobe and Apple are working closely to provide a fix to a known issue running Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended on Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5.1). Currently, when you enter values in numerical fields to set sizes for the brush, crop, marquee, lasso, type, and other Photoshop CS3 tools, those values revert to previously entered values when you try to apply them.
    # While we have identified workarounds for some of the affected tools, this issue prevents people from working as precisely and intuitively as they expect. Providing a fix to customers is a top priority. Please note the following: The fix will be provided through an update to Mac OS X Leopard. Consequently, it is not part of the Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) update.
    # Apple is collaborating closely with us to get this fix incorporated into a Mac OS X Leopard update. No public schedule is available at this time, but both companies understand the urgency of this fix.
    # As soon as the appropriate update to Mac OS X Leopard is available, we will immediately alert our Photoshop users.
    Affected Photoshop CS3 tools: Art History tool, Blur tool, Brush tool, Burn tool, Color Replacement tool, Clone tools (all), Crop tool, Dodge tool, Eraser tools (all), Gradient tool, Healing tools (all), History tool, Lasso tools (all), Line tool, Magic Wand tool, Marquee tools (all), Paint Bucket tool, Pencil tool, Polygon tool, Quick Selection tool, Red Eye tool, Rounded Rectangle tool, Sharpen tool, Smudge tool, Sponge tool, Slice tool, Type tool
    Workaround for tools with sliders: Instead of typing in a number, use the sliders to change the value.
    Workaround for tools with pop-up menus: Enter a value for the size but don’t press Return/Enter to apply the value. Instead, choose it from the top of the Size pop-up menu to commit it.
    Workaround for tools which do not have sliders or pop-up menus: For certain tools, such as the Line tool, you may want to set up presets that you can load to set common sizes. Alternatively, you can restart Photoshop CS3 to clear the problem. You will then be able to enter values again. However, the issue typically re-surfaces quickly.
    If additional details come to light, our tech doc Values in numerical fields in Photoshop CS3 revert to the previous value in Mac OS X v10.5.1 (Leopard) will be updated.

    Well, that's interesting! Here I thought the problem with my CS1 was just that it was too old, running in Rosetta and all, and would be fixed when I get my Xmas treat of CS3. Wonder if that means when the fix comes from Apple it will also fix the same problem in CS1? Of course, by then I'll probably have CS3.... Thanks for posting this, I would have been mighty annoyed to have plonked down my 200 bucks only to discover that I had the same bugs.

  • How to I get iPhoto to stop opening in fullscreen mode?

    Every time I open iPhoto, it opens in fullscreen mode. It's as if there is a setting that has been set for it to do it(though I've checked the settings and there's no such thing). I usually exit fullscreen mode in the usual way and it cooperates, but then sure enough, the next time I open it up, it's in fullscreen mode again. Additionally, perhaps it is linked to this problem, everytime I open iPhoto, it tells me that "iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your[my] library" and that I should "click Repair to avoid any potential problems". I've clicked repair numerous times but it still gives me the same message the next time I start the program. I've tried deleting the iPhoto plist file and that has not helped either.
    Another side note that may be similar is that Terminal always opens in fullscreen just like iPhoto.

    Alright, I fixed the problem!
    A more in depth description of the process, some credit for its origins, why it works, and how else you can use it can be found here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17269094#17269094
    But basically, you do the following:
    1. Navigate to "~/Library/Saved Application State/"
    2. Find "com.apple.iPhoto.savedState"
    3. Move it to the Trash
    4. Launch iPhoto
    Also, to solve the issue involving "Repairing" the Library, I had to navigate to the file "iPhoto library" (in ~/Users/dro8654/Pictures) and edit its "Sharing & Permissions" preferences such that only MY user was allowed to "Read & Write"
    This discussion was what helped me with this:

  • Macbook pro retina and Fullscreen mode freeze

    Hi
    I cant get fullscreen playing in FCP 7 on Macbook pro retina mid 2012 running 10.8.3mountain lion
    It wil show only a stil image and not play the video live.
    This happens on the macbook, and on external monitor, in all display settings available in fcp7. It worked some months ago thou... may there be a osx problem?
    Can I go back to earlier osx?
    Anyone using 10.8.3, retina, and can do fullscreen mode?
    best

    What format sources and what are your sequence settings?  I seem to remember that some non-standard formats will not play in full screen mode.
    Also, you might try deleting your preferences.  I strongly recommend using digital rebellion's preference manager to back up, trash and restore fcp and many other apps preferences.

  • Slow Gaming in Fullscreen mode

    I have a MacBook Pro Early 2011.
    Specs:
    ATI 6750m
    OS X Lion 10.7.3
    I am having some issue regarding playing games in Fullscreen mode. I recently purchased Batman and Trine/(2).
    Problem is when I play in Fullscreen mode, gameplay is horrible. Very choppy.
    If I play on Window mode, gameplay is fantastic.
    I also tried to use external monitor. Same issue.
    Playing in bootcamp either in fullscreen or window is great.
    Anyone experiencing this issue?
    I want to play on fullscreen mode.
    Please help.

    Regarding the alpha thing: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=406&thread=535269&tstart=15&trange=15
    And regarding the scale thing you can use:
    Graphics.drawImage(Image img, int dx1, int dy1, int dx2, int dy2, int sx1, int sy1, int sx2, int sy2, ImageObserver observer)
    "Draws as much of the specified area of the specified image as is currently available, scaling it on the fly to fit inside the specified area of the destination drawable surface."

  • App switching in fullscreen mode: Losing Focus

    I have my mac running Mountain Lion (Ver 10.8.2) and have noticed that when switching between applications when fullscreen mode is involved that the application I am switching to loses focus.
    Scenarios:
    Switching from fullscreen app -> fullscreen app
    Switching from fullscreen app -> not fullscreen app
    Switching from not fullscreen app -> fullscreen app
    For all of the above scenarios when the switch is completed, the app I am switching to loses focus, but the application bar still shows the correct application name (so it doesn't just switch to Finder). This happens regardless of if I use a multitouch gesture or CMD+TAB to do the switch. Also, when this happens "CMD + ~" doesn't switch between windows of the application switched to.
    I would expect these scenarios to work the same as switching between regular applications where the one you switch to is in focus after the switch. Is this a bug with the fullscreen mode? or is there a setting I missed that can fix it? or is it a "feature"?
    I thank you for any help you can provide - this irritating bug makes it impossible for me to use fullscreen mode for my purposes.

    That was the problem! I had Live Wallpaper installed and running, so I guess I won't use that until there is an update to fix te problem.
    Thanks!

  • How to start FF4 in fullscreen mode without any extension?

    I already called "BrowserFullScreen();" in browser.js:delayedStartup(), but then, the Firefoxwindow has an y-offset of -5 instead of 0. Already fixed this by adding 5 to gNavToolbox.style.marginTop.
    But afterwards, if I enter normale mode and fullscreen mode again via F11, I can see the NavToolbox (5 pixels).
    Is there any nicer way? Probably there could be a feature request to start up FF4 in fullscreen mode.

    If you close Firefox 4 while in full screen mode the Firefox should start the next time in full screen mode.<br />

  • Adobe Reader XI fullscreen mode now leaves title bar on Mac

    Has anyone run into this problem? I just upgraded Adobe Reader X (for the Mac) to Reader XI. When I go into fullscreen mode or open a fullscreen document, a title bar is left at the top with the document title and the upper left buttons. This did not happen in versions IX or X; kinda defeats the purpose of the fullscreen mode for presentations. Is this a bug? Or a new "feature"? I'm still running Snow Leopard and haven't tried in 10.7 or 10.8.

    I am having the very same problem!
    Snow Leopard and the annoying title bar when in fullscreen.
    Notice that it also shows the resize "handle" in the bottom right corner, which you can click and drag to resize the window.
    So it actually is NOT a fullscreen view anymore.
    I guess this has to do with Lion's OS fullscreen mode, but Adobe please correct this!!!
    ADOBE, ARE YOU READING THIS? This title bar is an ISSUE!

  • I switched to fullscreen mode and now I can't find the app tab to put it back to normal?

    I wanted to see what fullscreen mode in the new beta looked like and now I cannot find the app tab with the print, history, bookmarks, options, etc. It used to be up in the left top corner, and said "Firefox" (it was orange). I don't like this style of screen, now that I've seen it, and would like to go back to normal, and assume I need to uncheck it in that app tab. The regular Shift+F11 (or F10, or F12, whatever it is - I just keep hitting buttons till it works) that works for most programs on PC does not work.

    '''F11''' toggles the FullScreen mode, as it always has in Firefox - nothing new there.
    New in Firefox 4.0 is that orange Firefox button, which appears when the user hides the Menu bar (which was a feature that was also available in Firefox 3.6, but without the orange button). The orange Firefox button has a small menu that appears when you click on that button, and if you need to access a menu item that doesn't appear there, you can hit the '''Alt''' key to reveal the complete Menu bar temporarily. Or you can right-click a Toolbar and click on the Menu bar to have it showing all the time.

    Hi, e8god.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    The option to take apps full screen is still available.  Here are the steps on this feature in Yosemite.
    Take apps full screen
    In many apps, you can expand the window to fill your entire screen. While in full-screen view, swipe to see another app’s full-screen window, to see your desktop, or to see a space you created.
    Expand to full-screen view: Click the green full-screen button in the top-left corner of an app window, or press Control-Command (⌘)-F.
    Move between windows in full-screen view: Swipe left or right on a trackpad or Magic Mouse. For more information, see Learn trackpad and mouse gestures.
    Return to standard view: Move the pointer to the top-left corner of the screen, then click the green full-screen button again, or press Control-Command (⌘)-F.
    Take apps full screen
    Cheers,
    Jason H.
