X220, dmesg reports hardware error, powertop abnormal power consumption by some devices

Hi, Linux dmesg command reports this: [ 2072.470923] CPU1: Package power limit notification (total events = 1) [ 2072.470926] CPU0: Package power limit notification (total events = 1) [ 2072.470929] CPU3: Package power limit notification (total events = 1) [ 2072.470932] CPU2: Package power limit notification (total events = 1) [ 2072.476690] CPU3: Package power limit normal [ 2072.476697] CPU2: Package power limit normal [ 2072.476717] CPU0: Package power limit normal [ 2072.476726] CPU1: Package power limit normal [ 2096.847029] [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged [ 4569.973367] CPU1: Package power limit notification (total events = 2) [ 4569.973378] CPU0: Package power limit notification (total events = 2) [ 4569.973391] CPU3: Package power limit notification (total events = 2) [ 4569.973401] CPU2: Package power limit notification (total events = 2) [ 4570.018411] CPU2: Package power limit normal [ 4570.018415] CPU0: Package power limit normal [ 4570.018417] CPU1: Package power limit normal [ 4570.018419] CPU3: Package power limit normal [ 4643.555059] [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged [ 4979.410447] CPU1: Package power limit notification (total events = 20) [ 4979.410458] CPU0: Package power limit notification (total events = 20) [ 4979.410471] CPU3: Package power limit notification (total events = 20) [ 4979.410481] CPU2: Package power limit notification (total events = 20) [ 4979.416993] CPU0: Package power limit normal [ 4979.416997] CPU1: Package power limit normal [ 4979.417000] CPU3: Package power limit normal [ 4979.417002] CPU2: Package power limit normal [ 5092.974067] [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged powetop reports this power consumption, I think that usb, biometric coprocessor and network interface (interfaz de red) are very high. 9.49 W 100,0% Dispositivo USB: Biometric Coprocessor (UPEK) 6.65 W 100,0% Códec de audio hwC0D0: Conexant (pulseaudio ) 100,0% Códec de audio hwC0D3: Intel 5.70 W 100,0% Display backlight 5.70 W 100,0% Display backlight 3.94 W 100,0% Dispositivo USB: F5521gw (Lenovo) 2.61 W 36498 pkts/s Interfaz de red: eth3 (e1000e) Would somebody at Lenovo check this, please? I am seeing similar messages along with intermittent system hanging on my T420 (4178-CTO). Flashplayer seems to exacerbate matters.

I just deleted the post of the error file. When I posted it, it came up with a photo of a moon. Even though when I looked at it in onedrive it opened the log file.  trying again.https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2C896D862E3B4B36!6188&authkey=!ABHRn3oDiA7wdn8&ithint=file%2cevtx

  • N78 firmware re-instal reports 'hardware error'

    Hi there!
I looked for an update to my N78 (RM-235) firmware (12.0.46) today because the application installer in the phone reported failed installation of Joikuspot software.
NSU told me I had the latest available firmware, but could reinstal if I wanted - so I proceeded to do just that to see if it helped...
During the reflashing via USB cable there were messages at two points stating there had been a "problem with the device hardware - it might not work properly" -- or words to that effect.
Is this anything I should worry about? Maybe send the phone (1 month old) back to the carier (Virgin Mobile Australia)?
It seems to be working alright after the firmware installation, but you never know...
    Cheers,
    LMH
NB: the joikuspot software again failed to install after the reflash

There are a lot of different opinions about partitioning in Mac OS X and you can read some of them here:
    http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7592_102-0.html?forumID=25&threadID=44865&messageID= 530144
    and here
    http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-8096.html
My opinion is that partitions cam be useful when:
    1. the OS can't manage big volumes (as it was in the past)
    2. the OS can't optimize the space on big volumes
    3. want to install 2 or more separate OSes
    4. organization (like in your case).
Now, OS X filesystem (HFS+) is robust and reliable and OS X is a multitasking system that parallelizes I/O operations like reading or writing a disk.
So if you have 2 separate hard disk the system can parallelize the operations (i.e. reading from one and writing into another one) but if you have 2 partitions the system (or better the disk subsystem) have to jump back and forth among the partitions.
About the linking schema of the Audio interfaces and the FW hard disks it can change: I connect my FW disk to the MOTU and the MOTU to the mac while a friend of mine have to put the disk before of his Presonus.
    Thanks for the beer!
    cheers

  • Extending Power Consumption by Day report to more than 31 days

    Hi
I need to provide some information to management about computer activity on different days of the week in our environment. My first thought was the Power Management reports in SCCM and the 'Power Consumption by Day' report seems to fit what I'm after pretty
well. The only problem is that the report only covers a 31 day period and I need to increase this.
I found this line: set @reportStartDate = DATEADD(Day, -31, @reportEndDate ) in DataSet one for this report and assumed I could just increase the number from -31. However, when I attempt to edit this, or indeed edit any part of this report,
when I try to save it I get an error:
'More than one report item in the report has the name 'image1'. Report item names must be unique within a report.'
As I mentioned, this error appears if I try to edit and save any change within this report whereas I can do the same on other Power Mangement reports no problem. So it looks like an issue with this particular canned report.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get round this? As far as I'm aware the report files are not available in a directory on the server but are stored in the database so I wouldn't know how to go about looking for this duplicate 'image1'.
If there is an alternative solution that doesn't involve using this report I'm open to anything.
    Thanks in advance

Actually the power management reports are stored on the site server. They can be found under <Install director>\Reports\Power Management within the cab file. You can exact them and edit them.. I recommend that you made a copy of
the report and don’t over write the existing report.

    Great, I'll try looking there.
    Thanks Garth

  • DVD DL burn issues - internal target error - fake hardware errors

I am receiving an error from DVD studio pro 3 and Toast 6 when burning DVD DL. The error only appears when burning Memorex and Verbatim discs (so far) using these applications. HP branded DVD DLs burnt fine from the same applications. Aside from the obvious, using only the HPs, has any one found a solution to this problem.
My error code is ....Formatting failed: internal device reports hardware error:internal target error 0x440x00...
I have tested this on other macs in my office and can repeat the error, so it leaves me to believe it is not actually hardware, but more over, likely firmware and or software upgrades. All equipment is less than 16 months old, intel chipped... I need a fix for our travel edit laptop - a Mac book pro.
Another thing that makes me conclude it isn't actually a hardware issue, the same discs that won't burn in Toast or DVDsp3, burn just fine using the finder's burning capabilties.
    Thanks!

its been a few days since I posted my problem- i'm not surprised there hasn't been any movement on this topic... seems to be the status quo for all topics about this DVD DL problem..
For those with a similar problem, I'll review my work around for the situation.
Here is the low down review of my problem:
    • the matSHITa DVD-R(UJ-846) will not burn DVD DLs from Toast 6 or DVD studio pro 3.
    • the Mac says internal hardware failure or sometimes a session error - see previous posts for code
    My work around:
    • export disc image from DVD studio pro
    • burn image as DVD-ROM (UDF) WITH simulation mode checked.
    • worked for Memorex 8x DVD+R DLs, Verbatim 8x DVD+R DLs not at 8x speed, used 2x setting.
It takes a longer time for this route but has work consistently on about 15 DVD burns so far... I'll post again if this fails or stops working.
Again that is an intel chipped Mac Book Pro and iMac with the matSHITa DVD burner. Yes I capitalized that 4 letter segment on purpose.

I just got verification from the QE team, this problem is due
to the fact that you have not enabled Hardware Acceleration.
This error will occur when the Hardware Acceleration is set
to level 3 or below. FME requires that you set Hardware
    Acceleration to a value of 4, 5, or 6.
Hardware Accelration can be set from Display Properties->
    Settings-> Advances-> Troubleshoot
    Thanks,

  • USB hardware errors

When I attempted to plug in a usb non-powered digital card reader or a usb non-powered floppy disk drive intothe the keyboard or iMac G5 computer I get the folowing error "USB Low Power Notice The USB device cannot operate because it needs more power than is available.
To correct this problem you can:
    1) Plug the device into an electrical outlet if it has a power cord.
    2) Unplug the device and plug it into another USB port on your computer or other device that is plugged into a power cord." What can I do to correct this problem?

i appreciate that you are trying to give the standard answers here assuming that a problem so trivial couldn't possibly be as a result of faulty harware, but rather a user issue. further, while you are also using an iMac, i think this may be an uniquely iSight-related problem.
So, in vincyman's defence, I too am having these persistent errors, and sometimes goes one step further, terminating the USB port. this is really annoying when it happens to be the port my keyboard is connected to, which i've plugged a low(no)-powered USB 1.1 device into.
System Profiler even has difficulty making sense of what's going on with the USB Hubs built into the iMac, and i suspect that in building the iSight camera into the unit, they have powered it off the USB Bus, along with the IR receiver for the remote. this seems to be the same bus powering the three USB ports at the back of the mac, and i'm guessing that putting two USB 2 devices and a keyboard / USB 1 hub in at the same time is simply too much for it to deal with.
i'm no hardware expert, but that's the only conclusion i can come to, and am peeved as a reult. i have 4 USB 2 and 5 USB 1 peripherals i used to connect to my G5 through a powered USB Hub and clever linking. but, after plotting out the schematic drawing for the iMac, i have to unplug things before using another otherwise the ports will shut down, and i need to restart the computer. there must be a solution other than unplugging the scanner so i can print?

  • Disk Utility is reporting a fatal hardware error-S.M.A.R.T. status failing. Is there hope?

OS 10.5.8 on a 1.8 GHz Power PC G5. Installed Western Digital WD1002FAEX as a second internal hard drive. I also installd the jumper needed to slow HD down for this computer. Initialized and formated the HD was able to back up a large iPhoto file and am still able to acceass the file from the new HD. Now Disk Utility is reporting a fatal hardware error-S.M.A.R.T. status failing. Is there hope?

Is that on your first drive or the new one???
Only experience I had with SMART warning was that in less than 48 hrs it was dead for good.

  • Reported Fatal Hardware Error to Disk Utility

I see the following message in my Power Book G4 Disk Utility:
"This drive has Reported Fatal Hardware Error to Disk Utility. If drive has not failed completely, back up as much data as you can and then replace it with a new drive."
I already made a back up my Home folder to my external HD. The install disk utility reports the same and has grey the repair uptions.
The spinning beachball appears constantly when using Safari and iTunes. What should I do?

If your Mac is no longer under the standard 1-yr warranty period or under the 3-yr extended warranty if you purchased the AppleCare extended warranty for your PB, you need to purchase a new internal hard drive that is compatible with your Mac model. This is something you can install yourself or take your Mac to an Apple authorized repair facility to purchase and have a new internal hard drive installed.
The repair facility should include re-installing whichever OX version and all software that was pre-installed and shipped with this Mac when purchased new. If this wasn't Tiger and you purchased a Tiger retail install package, you can re-install the Tiger upgrade yourself and then replace all data from your backup on the new hard drive.

  • My iMac 8.1 was slowing down and had permissions problems. I backed everything up, and then re-installed. Now all I get is a black screen. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: HDD-1336. Help!

My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

    Cheers. Don
No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.

  • I have a MacBook Pro, Matshita UJ-857E while recording music my drive reported an error: Sense Key=HARDWARE ERROR Sense Code=0x03,0x01 I have no idea what this means, and now my cd burner/player won't work. can someone help me fix this problem?

Please Help me. I am having problems with my MATSHITA UJ-857E DVD-R burner/writer. I burned 4 cd's and then it stopped working.
I can select my songs, and then it asks for a blank disc. It starts preparing to write the disc, then it says,"
The drive reported an error: Sense Key= HARDWARE ERROR Sense Code= 0x09,0x01 TRACKING SERVO FAILURE.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to fix it or what this means because I have no idea what it is talking about or how to begin to fix the problem?

This is an error reported by the optical drive's firmware. The tracking servo is the servomechanism which guides the laser pickup along the track on the optical disc. The error means that the servo couldn't do its job within the programmed parameters. What it doesn't say is why.
You have to be very precise as to when this error occurs. If it occurs as you wrote, while it "starts preparing to write the disc", and not when it has actually began to burn, then it's likely that the drive has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
There are other possibilities, so you should check them, but they would be more likely if the error occurred after the drive began to write. OrangeMarlin has suggested two options -- try a different brand of CD or DVD, and try cleaning the lens.

  • Disk Utility Reporting Fatal Hardware Error

    Hello all,
I woke up this morning to the flashing folder with a question mark in it on my MacBook. I know that that means the system can't find the OS so I assumed that my hard drive had magically failed overnight. So I turned my computer off and then rebooted and everything loaded properly. I went into Disk Utility and my main hard drive that has OS X on it is highlighted in red and when I click on it, Disk Utility only displays "This drive has reported a fatal hardware error to Disk Utility. If the drive has not failed completely, back up as much data as you can and then replace it with a working drive."
I have noticed EXTREMELY sluggish performance by my computer in these past two days which has required me to force quit programs and force shut down the system more times than I've had to in the whole time I've had this computer. Could this be a side effect of the failing drive?
I'm backing everything up right now, but I'm wondering how accurate Disk Utility is. The drive that I have in here is a non-Apple-installed 250 GB Western Digital that's been in here for nearly a year. Is it possible that the drive is failing beyond repair already? If so, is there any way to see the full extent of the damage and attempt to repair it before I go out and buy a new hard drive to replace it with?
Thanks for all the help and the fast responses!

I'm backing everything up right now, but I'm wondering how accurate Disk Utility is. The drive that I have in here is a non-Apple-installed 250 GB Western Digital that's been in here for nearly a year. Is it possible that the drive is failing beyond repair already?
    yes, it's quite possible.
If so, is there any way to see the full extent of the damage and attempt to repair it before I go out and buy a new hard drive to replace it with?
check the SMART status in disk utility as suggested. if it says anything but "verified" it means that the drive is expected to fail completely and you shouldn't try to repair it. If it says "verified" It's possible that reformatting will fix it so you can try that. this will wipe all the data on it so clone it off first as gbullman suggested. BTW, most drives come with manufacturers warranty longer than a year and you should be able to replace the drive. that's what I would recommend.
Thanks for all the help and the fast responses!

  • Oracle Apps Report error "Oracle Reports Server CGI - The Reports Server Engine terminated abnormally."

    Hi ,
I have modified layout of one existing custom report.
I have added 3 columns in the report , Now when I execute the report sometimes it gets executed with the newly added columns and sometimes it errors out with below error.
Error: The requested URL was not found, or cannot be served at this time.
Oracle Reports Server CGI - The Reports Server Engine terminated abnormally.
Any pointers in this regards will be appreciated.
    Thanks

I found there were some srw.message statement ( used for debugging purpose) were there , when I removed those statements. This error was gone.

  • Hardware error reported???

I finished burning a DVD just now and I got an error saying "The recording device reported the hardware error: No write current. (0x03, 0x01.)".. what does this mean.. I also tried the DVD to see if it worked, the menus loaded fine but when I went to select a scene.. DVD Player crashed.
also on a side question, how do I name the DVD so that when it appears on the desktop it is no the standard "my great movie".. i have the project in iMovie and iDVD saved as the same name..
    cheers

    (0x03, 0x01) is a 'write fault'. Bum/wrong media and/or failing DVD writer.
Try new DVD-R (another brand) and/or cleaning the DVD drive with a DVD cleaning disk.

  • Is a Disk Utility "fatal hardware Error" Always fatal?

    Help!
I'm traveling for the next four weeks and have my lap top with me to do work.
Last night I was working fine on my computer when all of a sudden Photoshop wouldn't open files right. I quite out of Photoshop (slow)
Then tried to quit out of everything else (slow) and finally shut down holding the Power button down. I waited a few minutes and tried to reboot.
It was REALLY slow starting back up. (about 15 to 20 minutes). I held the Power key down to turn it off and left it overnight hoping it would figure itself out by morning.
This am the same start up problem happened. I finally got it opened and manuvered to Disk Utility.
    IT GAVE ME THIS MESSAGE
This drive has reported a Fatal Hardware Error to Disk utility.
If the drive has not failed completely, Back up as much as you can and
then replace it with a working drive.
HERE IS WHAT I DID EARLIER IN THE EVENING THAT I THINK MADE IT WACKY.
I hadn't installed SUITCASE X1 yet and was using the program Font Book that comes with the computer. It wasn't satifactory so I went ahead and installed Suitcase X1.
FONT BOOK kept showing a ton of open faces.
I carefully (or so I thought) went through Font Books "All fonts" window and got rid of fonts that I didn't see in the system fonts folder. (I think this is where I really may have screwed up)
FYI I am a graphic designer and use many fonts.
I store all the design fonts in a folder in USERS > SHARED> FONTS
I directed SUITCASE to "Manage system fonts"
Every thing was working fine for a few hours.
I was working in QUARK 6 easily and listening to a Podcast. No problems.
When I went to open PHOTOSHOP, it (Photoshop) started running very slow.
and all the things I mentioned above started to happen.
I have the OS10.4 install disk with me so I tried to boot from it.
(I thought maybe it had a utility on it to help fix things or maybe I could copy any important fonts that I accidently trased
(btw do you hold down OPTION C to boot from a CD or APPLE C?
    I tried them all)
I couldn't get it to boot from the CD
Have I really wrecked my computer?
Do we think it's a font problem.
Can I fix it. I'm at the beach in NC and there's no techys around!!!!
I am currently typing this email on the laptop so it's not completely dead.
Just super slow and threatening to die.
    What should I do??!!!
Did I mention today is my birthday?
    PowerbookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It's either OPTION or C. Unfortunately, the Install CD doesn't give you much access to file operations (no Finder) as Mac OS 9 and earlier did.
If you could start it in Target Disk Mode and mount the drive on another Mac, or boot it from an external drive with a Mac OS X installation on it you could try to recover files that aren't already backed up.
