  • Microsoft Band Functionality Issues and Windows Phone Developer Preview

I just wanted to post this since I ran into this issue and after spending my evening dealing with it wanted to share what I learned. I picked up a Microsoft Band for myself and my wife. I'm running the developer preview on my Lumia 920 and have
been for awhile now. The band has been working really well for me and I hadn't had any issues. My wife has a new Lumia 1520 and wasn't in the developer preview. Her band was fine for a couple of days but then stopped connecting to her phone. The Bluetooth
wouldn't connect. I spent over an hour on the phone with Microsoft support which was pretty helpful (I do appreciate that it is US based support and not out in India). But during the troubleshooting I did with the support tech he mentioned that there are features
that only work if you have the developer preview. Things such as Facebook and Twitter tiles on the Band only work with the latest version of WP 8.1 that you can get through the developer preview. However it also appears that the Band's other
functions such as Cortana and Text/Email notifications work much better as well when you have the newer version of 8.1 with the Developer Preview. So I just wanted to put that out there, if you are having any issues with your Band sign up for the
Developers Preview and update your phone and you should see improvements.
    Vincent Sprague

Can anyone tell me why I have not mail option under Manage Tiles? I am running with the Develop Preview on a Lumia 1020. I am now running the developer preview update, I hope this fixes the issue but it seems it should just be an app issue smh.

  • MacBook 7,1 CS4206a audio driver crashes on Windows 8 Developer Preview

    I'm experiencing crash on about every 20minutes on Windows 8 Developer Preview.(MacBook 7,1 late 2010 model)(BootCamp 4.0.0 installed)
It seems that Built-In audio driver is the one that causes the problem.
I disabled CS4206a driver in Driver Manager to prevent that.
But I really want my sounds back.
I've also tried CS4207driver from Cirrus Logic, and a old driver.
but none seems to be helping.
    Any advice??

Thank you all for the replies. Unfortunatly, I found that audio driver is not the problem.
After disablling, removing the audio driver from the system32/drivers, the time til to get crash has indeed EXTENDED, but it still crashes..
misalaram, thank you for the idea. Formatted windows 8 and installed JUST the graphics card driver directly from the nvidia. Still crashes..
I think it is sort of like kernel panic. Which microsoft has said that they implemented multi-tasking capable kernel. I think somthing is unstable..

  • How to use trackpad gestures with Windows 8 Developer Preview?

I have installed a Windows 8 Developer Preview on my MacBook via BootCamp Assistant. I found that it isn't support the trackpad gestures! (ex: two-fingers tap to right-click)
So how can I use the trackpad gestures with Windows 8?
    Thank you for all reply.

The BootCamp drivers that you can download and burn to a disc via the Boot Camp application in Mac OS can be installed in Windows 8 (run setup.exe from the disc while in Windows 8, preferably by right-clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator") and will allow you to use all of the current features of the touchpad (including two finger clicking/tapping).  Once you have installed the drivers as described above, you can then click on the arrow in the System Tray and right-click on the black triangle that is for the BootCamp control panel. In those settings you can change how the touchpad responds to your taps, clicks, etc.

  • Instant Client - Windows 8 Developer Preview

    Dear
I have 2 Applications (our product) installed on Windows 8 Developer Preview.
The first runs like a charm
The second (It is the same application) raises the following error:
    ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error
    Thanks for reply
    Cheers
    Martin

Unfortunately the informations given are so generic as the error message itself. So only a generic answer is possible:
ORA-12560 is a common error on Windows when a LOCAL connection (no connection through a listener) is used,
    1) ORACLE_SID is not set or not set correctly
    2) the corresponding database service is not started
Of course since you run in an unsupported environment, other reasons are also possible.

  • Windows 8 Developer Preview

I installed the preview on to my Gateway LT2802u Netbook and for the most part it runs smoothly. However, I'm not a fan of the Metro Style interface that replaced the Start Menu, and there are a few visual changes that suck. Most notibly the integration of the ribbon style interface into the Windows Explorer component, it looks like an absolute mess to begin with. Also a majority of the options such as Device Manager or Control Panel are often difficult to navigate due to the hoops you have to jump through to find the shortcut. I also don't like IE9 opening up in a Metro Style app like interface when you clicked the icon. I have been reading a website called Win Supersite, and Paul Thurrot has had some great reads regarding this developer preview and found workarounds to restore some of the functionality that was nice in Windows 7.

That... window pane thing's annoying as heck.
Let alone hovering over the start button brings up the clock(already visible) and other things you can already see.
Absolutely HATE the "Control Panel". Even when I got to the "old style".
I lasted a whole 20 minutes. Recovery media going back in, and we're not going to speak of this incident again.

  • [Forum FAQ]Start Menu Scroll Issue in Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926

    Scenario:
When upgrading to Window 10 Technical Preview Build 9926 from Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9879, you may notice that on the start menu, when you move mouse to the right side, it won’t scroll until you click it.
    Solution:
This is because the value of the key DWORD
    MouseWheelRouting which is under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop values changed to 0 after upgrade.
    Note:
Before you make changes to a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy, of the key or subkey.
Press Windows logo key +R to open Run, type
regedit, and then press Enter to open Registry Editor.
Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
On the right side, change the value of the DWORD MouseWheelRouting
to non-0 and non-1, for example 2, 3, which is set to 1 by default.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Sign out and sign back.
    Applies to:
Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926 upgrade version.

    same issue in build 10049.
It would help to be more specific in the symptom description.  E.g. using Narrator may help.  (Win-Enter).  Does it say what you are "seeing" (or should be seeing)?
FWIW I think it is relatively easy to reproduce symptoms which are related to this thread's description using Narrator (Start Screen without Search bar, Search bar without Taskbar, or Search bar with Taskbar but without Start Menu
when the only time that the Search bar should appear is when the Start Menu is there, for example) so that could also help specify what your real symptom is.  BTW there are horrendous delays when using Narrator.

  • ITunes On Windows 8 Developer Preview Help

I Got this off of the Windows Developer Preview Forums
Since this is a preview of the operatingsystem, iTunes may not work with the Windows Developer Preview.
Try these steps, however when you start the sync don't have the deviceplugged in yet.
    1) Close iTunes
    2) Go to Services
    3) Stop "Apple Mobile Device" service
    4) Plug device in, wait for the 1 or 2 chimes
    5) Start "Apple Mobile Device"
    6) Open iTunes
    7) When Sync you might get an "Unable to receive data from syncservices", but it should sync.
You might also check in the Apple iTunes forums to see if anyone has come upwith a suggestion.

  • Datacard connectivity issues in Windows 10 technical preview?

I have installed and run windows 10 setup. Windows 10 is truly awesome, but i am facing one issue which is "datacard (MTS MBlaze) connectivity to internet". The datacard device is detected successfully. While clicking "connect" to internet,
it is saying that it's failing. It worked good in Windows 8.1. After migrating to 10, it's giving issues.
And well, we already knew that everything is connected to operating system.
I had no issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, but i don't own it. Need a solution for this datacard connectivity problem :(
    Aswini S

I've Reliance Netconnet+ Datacard and this problem occured for me too. Fortunately I've found a solution (not a perfect solution) to make it connect to the Internet.
    1) First I uninstalled the Reliance Netconnect+ software (I upgraded from 8.1 Pro to 10 Enterprise)
    2) Then I reinstalled the software and at some point it says Driver installtion fails before the installation completely finished. But dont worry, wait until Finish or OK button appears
    3) Then connect your Reliance Netconnect+ datacard and open the Reliance Netconnect+ application
    4) If you connected the device, app will open and the Connect button will be shown (You've to do the step 3, otherwise it wont work)
    5) Then open your network Charm and you can find Reliance Netconnect+ in Connections list. Click on Reliance Netconnect+ and click connect
    6) It will ask for username and password and Dial number. For me, the dial number is automatically filled as #777 by default. For Reliance Netconnect+,
         Defualt Username : net
Alternate Username : Netconnect+ phone no
         Default Password : net
Alternate Password : Netconnect+ phone no
(You can also find this dial no, username and password in Settings option in the Reliace Netconnect+ application which you closed earlier)
    7) Fill up the username, password and dial no, then click on Dial. It will be successfully connected and you can browse the internet.
8)IF you want to monitor the data usage, now open the Reliance Netconnect+ application and click on Connect, it'll be connected coz it's already connected to internet.
Hope it works for other data cards if the appropriate dial no, username and password are known.
If anyone have doubts in the following steps, post here. This is only a alternate method of connecting your data card and it's not a Standard one. We have to wait for the MS team to solve this problem if you want to connect it in a standard way.

  • Skype App issues on Windows 8.1 Preview

I'm not sure if this a Skype issue or a Windows 8.1 issue, but I found out that if I'm logged in to Skype on my Windows Phone 8 with my Microsoft account, the Skype App on Windows 8.1 doesn't work at all. No notifications, no incoming messages, sent messages won't go through. Nothing. First I thought it was a problem with the Skype App on Windows 8.1, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times to no avail. I also tried restarting my laptop and my phone several times, until I remembered that the day before I had logged in to Skype on my WP with my MS Account (I was logged in with my Skype account before), so I switched accounts on the phone and logged in with my Skype account only and voila, the Skype App on Windows 8.1 started working again perfectly. I would really like to login on both my laptop and my phone with my MS account at the same time, but unfortunately it seems impossible at this moment.

I have the same issue. Just installed Windows 8.1 Pro (x64) from my Technet subscription. I installed Skype from the Store, but it just does not work (it shows blues screen and the application exits to a Start menu). Reinstallation does not help. Possible workaround I found is to use a copied Skype folder installed on my different Windows 7 PC (ver 6.6.66.106) which runs fine on W8.1 pro without installation.

  • Windows 8 Consumer Preview issue on W520

I installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview last week and I have issues with ThinkVantage Toolbox and Lenovo System Update.
    - Once I launch the ThinkVantage gives me error with Un-identified OS.
    - Lenovo System Update gives me error once I start scanning for the new updates.
    - Battery draining fast on the W520 system with the Windows 8.
Does anyone have similar issue with Windows 8 Consumer Preview? I'm looking for a solution.

Well, it is a beta, so don't expect all drivers to install properly. You'll have to try installing each driver manually, and hope that they work.

  • Windows 8 Consumer Preview Downloads Now Available

For those of you interested in getting an early handle on what Windows 8 has in store, Microsoft has made the much anticipated Consumer Preview version available today...  Note that this is free, "beta" level software, and WILL expire, so don't expect to just download and use it forever.  Ultimately they're going to charge $$$ for it.
    Main page:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/consumer-preview
    ISO images available:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/iso
Windows 8 Server available to Technet subscribers:  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/securedownloads/hh442904
I'm in the process of downloading ISO images now, and will be setting up VMware virtual machines in which to test the various versions.  I will be interested to see how Photoshop works with it (it mostly worked with the Windows 8 Developer Preview version, with just a few glitches).
Note that these downloads are all quite huge (multiple gigabytes).

Generally speaking, Microsoft seems to be trying to bridge the "touch screen tablet" market with the "desktop computer" market, all in the name of opening up their own shiny new App Store.  I don't know whether they're going to pull it off, but Apple has become a world economic power with theirs.  It's almost scary to think what Microsoft will be able to do with theirs.  Sounds like opportunity knocking for Windows developers.
The Windows 8 Metro Start screen, complete with its flat, styleless tiles, has replaced the Start Menu in Windows 8, and there's no Start button at all.  I give it a month at most before someone like Ivo Beltchev, who created the Windows 7 add-on "ClassicShell" package, creates software to restore a workalike to the Windows 7 menu.  I've tried the current version of ClassicShell already with the Windows 8 developer preview and it doesn't seem to run, though I haven't gone to the ClassicShell forums to see whether there's a workaround.
But using the Win key to pop over to the Metro Start screen, which is the start menu replacement, all the functionality is still there, and there are some advantages.  For example, a number of known bugs in Windows Explorer have been fixed, and they've integrated ribbons into Explorer in a way that actually makes some sense.  So far everything I've tried to run has worked - I get the impression either compatibility was very high on their list, or they haven't done much to the "traditional" APIs.
Oh, and they've integrated their own anti-malware solution, so there will be no more need for 3rd party packages.
Interestingly to me, after half a day of testing and getting used to it (and having run the Windows 8 Developer Preview before that for months), the whole Windows 8 system so far feels lighter and more efficient that Windows 7.  There are fewer processes running, they seem to take up less memory, and just a lot of things seem more polished.
I'm guessing there's just enough "gee whiz" here to make even people who are relatively happy with Windows 7 want to upgrade.

  • Itunes issues with Windows having to do with Apple's patent

I had a thought and am not sure if it's right. I was wondering if myissues with Apple Itunes store on Windows 7 has anything to do with the Patent laws and all with Apple and samsung and all that.

I had the same issues with Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I installed on a fresh system and still had issues.
I experienced extreme lag, with pretty much everything, and iTunes freezing once I attempted to change the currently playing song.
I had a mess with compatibility mode and found out that running it in with Compatibility mode enabled for Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and as an administrator fixed it. It works now, however, there is a popup message that comes up on launch telling you to change the compatibility settings, but pressing "OK" makes it go away.
    How?
Open Windows Explorer, and navigate to: "C:\Program Files\iTunes" (For 32bit) or "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes" (For 64bit), unless you changed it.
Right-click on "iTunes.exe", select "Properties" from the context menu, and click the "Compatibility" tab.
Under "Compatibility mode" check off "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" from the drop down menu.
Further down under "Privilege level" check off "Run this program as an administrator".
    Click "Apply" and "OK".
Should fix any issues, I have my default iTunes Media Folder Location within an external hard drive so unplugging all of my USB's wasn't an option.
    Hope I helped!
