XML Embedded in XML

What are the ramifications of embedding an XML document in another XML document when the parser is the JAXP DOM parser? Specifically; if my schema says that the embedded XML is of type "string", then the parser chokes when it sees the embedded XML tags in the data region - it comes back complaining that the field is a simple type and must have no children.
Is it common to embed XML in XML like this ...is it an intended/envisioned/supported use of the JAXP parser? If so, there must be a standard way of making it work. In this case an XML message is being used to send an updated (.xsd)Schema - embedded in the XML document as one of its fields.

Okay that's helpful but the intent really is to have the entire embedded xml field treated as text such that it can be retrieved just as the contents of a text field can be retrieved (in this case the embedded xml is an actual XML Schema). CDATA won't work in this case (if I understand correctly) since the embedded XML does indeed have newlines. If I use the "any" type, the embedded XML is treated as XML - not as text- so it can't be retrieved as the "contents" of a single field (using getNodeValue() for example). I can give it a "lax" or "skip" attribute but it either way I can't retrieve it as I would one large text field. That's what I'm really trying to find out ...if it's possible to have the embedded XML file treated as a single text field that can be retrieved as a single field.

    I have tried to turn off XML parsing within Jdeveloper but no luck. I don't understand why jdeveloper will be trying to implicitly parse the XML doc, and wont even do it well.
    Is there a way I can turn off Embedded OC4J XML parsing ? and let it just use the parser in the application ? I mean Tomcat works fine with this application.
    Please help !

    I think maybe you use wrong adf lib when deploying your project to the OC4J.
    You can update your oc4j in the jdev.[JDEV->Tools->ADF Runtime Installer-> Standalone OC4J].

    If you want to parse XML (more than the simple example you give), I recommend you go here: http://xml.apache.org and download Xerces for Java.
    If you want to parse the text yourself, look at:
    java.lang.String methods: indexOf(String,int) and substring(int,int)

    Your error message are not displaying because u does not made Message-Resoucrce property file (Resource Bundle) when you make it .
    give it entry in
    struts-config.xml
    <message-resources parameter="ApplicationResources" />
    and
    define key and corresponding error message to key in this ApplicationResources i.e
    #Error Resources

  • Error while trying to update the XML template using XML Publisher Administrator

    Hello Folks,
    We are on R12.1.3
    I changed a condition in a report and trying to upload the new XML template using XML Publisher Administrator.
    when i click the Apply button, it is throwing an error 'Bad Request'
    Navigation : XML Publisher Administrator > Data Definitions > query the report
    Click on the name of the report > click 'Update file' besides Data Template > Choose file > Click Apply
    I am getting the below error
    Bad Request
    Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
    Now, i could not upload a new XML template.
    Am I doing anything wrong.

    I had a similar error which when I searched, came up with this thread.
    My issue was resolved after I discovered that my RTF template was not really RTF. It was sill in MS Word DOC format. This was discovered by reviewing two templates in NOTEPAD. The MS-DOC files have a lot of "special" characters in them. My RTF was not really RTF.
    After doing a SAVE AS - RTF format, then the preview worked as expected.

  • XML string to XML parsing in JCD

    I have stored an XML file as a CLOB in the Oracle DB. While fetching this data into JCD using Oracle OTD, I am getting this CLOB field as a string containing the XML. Now I want to parse this XML string to XML, as I need to map the individual fields to an XSD OTD, which will be my output.
    Kindly suggest a way to achieve this.

    An XSD OTD has an unmarshalFromString() method:
    inputFormat.unmarshalFromString( strData );
    When putting the XML into the CLOB it could be a good idea to wrap an outputstream into a Writer object in order to make certain that the encoding is correct, depending how the data is represented. When retrieving CLOB data using getCharacterStream() you will get a Reader object where the encoding is already given.

    I assume you mean there is a compiler error? (It helps if you explain your problem instead of just giving a vague description of it.) It sounds like you have to import InputSource. You do know about the import statements that go at the beginning of a Java class, don't you?

    When an XML document is generated from an XML Schema the XML document does not have all the elements specified in the XML Schema. The XML document only has the root element.
    1. Register an XML Schema.
    2. Create an XML document with File>New>General>XML>XML Document from XML Schema. The "Generate only Required Elements" is unchecked.
    3. The XML document has only the root element.
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3 all the elements in the XML Schema get generated.

    Also, the component palette for the XML document generated from the XML Schema does not list all the elements in the XML Schema, only the root element is listed. Even if elements are specified as required in the XML Schema with minOccurs="1" and the "Generate only Required Elements" checkbox is selected only the root element gets generated.
