XML output to Excel
From an XML newbie.
Hi all
If I generate a report in XML output from Reports10g, which contains data like 01, 02, 03, etc, and then import this into Excel 2003, how do I ensure that the format of the data is preserved, and not imported as 1,2,3, etc?
This would be the preferred method of importing into Excel, as it eliminates the need for users to have to manually import a text file.
Many thanks in advance.

Thanks.Hi Vetsrini,
We're on 10.1.3.4.1 and siebel 8.1.1.3 and when trying to open a report from within siebel in the output format EXCEL (selected from the parameter applet), it just opens the document in the browser.
Is there a way to get it to open directly in Excel? I guess the reason is the file extension*.EXCEL, how could we get the extension to be in excel format (xls)?
We don't want our users to have to do this themself.

XML Publisher report default output in Excel format.
Hi,
We have defined one concurrent program whose output format is text, this concurrent program executable is PL/SQL and in this PL/SQL program we are generating XML data and displaying XML using below fnd_request.
l_conc_id := FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST('GMP','GMPPDROP','', '',FALSE,
p_sequence_num,chr(0),'','','','','','','','','','','',
We have also defined template for this.
Using below fnd_request we are choosing template and data is getting generated in PDF format. Now our requirement is to display the output by default in Excel format.
FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST('XDO','XDOREPPB','', '',FALSE,'',
l_conc_id,554,G_comb_pdr_temp,
G_comb_pdr_locale,'Y','RTF','',scale_report,'','','','','',
When i saw XML Report Publisher concurrent program, there is one parameter for Output Format and i tried passing 'Excel'/EXCEL/excel to this parameter but output is still coming in PDF format.
FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST('XDO','XDOREPPB','', '',FALSE,'',
l_conc_id,554,G_comb_pdr_temp,
G_comb_pdr_locale,'Y','RTF','Excel',scale_report,'','','','','',
I have also tried giving Default Output to EXCEL in template definition but this is also not working.
Your valuable suggestions highly appreciated.
Thanks

When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb. The records contained in excel file is 4000 records. When taking the excel records and copy to new excel file the excel file size is 3.5 mb only. Why does the oracle software generates 20mb file?
Does any one knows the answer please advice?Hello,
This issue is because the Excel output from BI Publisher is MHTML (XML Publisher generates XHTML) not binary .xls.
MHTML and XHTML are more verbose formats than binary .xls.
It will be large because the current Excel output is just an HTML and not compressed like PDF. Please use the workaround (save it as .xls file). This is a known limitation of RTF layout templates.
BI Publisher Enterprise has a new feature True Excel Templates. The layouts generate binary Excel output.
Excel Output File Size Generated By BI Publisher is Very Large (Doc ID 760437.1)

Is it possible to display a date as (DD-MON-YYYY) in excel output using excel template in xml publisher where date should be displayed as date only not string.
I've tried to use hierarchy node variables, but it seems like you can't specify a attribute of the hierarchy such as level. So with the WBS hierarchy, if you create a hierarchy node variable, you specify the WBS value to select (If I understand this correctly). I wish I could instead specify "give me all the WBS nodes that happen to have the value of the level attribute greater or equal to 3. If I understand Juergens post, he is saying make security access so that only certain WBS levels can be returned in the query. I suppose we can try that, but that would then preclude getting the level 1 and 2 in the future if the authorization is global.

Xml report output in excel format without using options tab in EBS
How to get xml publisher report output in excel format without using options tab in EBS?
I am getting XML Publisher report output in excel format by using options tab while submitting the concurrent request .
But i want to get excel output automatically.
Can anyone give idea to get XML publisher Report output in excel without selecting options tab.
Thanks in advance
Sandeep VHey Sandeep,
I am working on a similar format for a report and if possible can you please give me some guidelines. I have initially created reports using XML Publisher, but for those , the output preview format was PDF. So, if I select the preview format as EXCEL will it give me output in Excel and for this to happen, how do I define the rtf template. I believe the working will be same as for PDF, create a rdf report, get output in XML and apply the template to get the data in Excel or there is something different to this.
Thanks,

XML Publisher with output type EXCEL is taking time to finish than for PDF
Hi Guru's,
I got a strange problem.
When i submit a report by choosing output format type as EXCEL, it is taking much time to complete. The same report if i choose PDF finishing in half of the time of EXCEL report. Also when we go with "view output" it is taking 4 mins to show the output. Total number of records existed are 6000 only.
Please suggest me the solutions or alternatives if any.
Thanks in advance and waiting for your response.
Regards,
Phani Reddyit is taking much time to complete. The same report if i choose PDF finishing
in half of the time of EXCEL report. Excel is a complicated and proprietary file format. Whilst I know nothing about XML Publisher I do know that putting any sort of output into Excel format takes a long time. It's because it has to be done on a cell-by-cell basis. It's much faster to blat stuff out row-by-row.

Problem to display a negative number in XML Publisher output in excel
Hi All,
I am facing problem in displaying a negative number in XML Publisher output in excel.
My requirement is that I have to display a negative number in brackets when the output is taken in excel format. Eg: If the value is -123 then i have to display it as (123).
I have put these brackets using a formula column in the RDF, but it is the default functionality of excel that whenever there is a number in brackets then it automatically displays that as a negative value.
Can anyone please help me how I can display this negative number within brackets and not as a negative digit. Is there any special tag or is there any formula which can be used to convert this into text and written in the Help text of RTF template.
This is very urgent. If someone knows please reply asap.

XML report with excel as output in oracle HRMS
Hi All,
I need to develop an xml report with output in excel sheet.
The ouput should contain fulltime employee details in one tab and partime employee details in another tab.
Is this possible.Plz guide as to how to achive this. Any reference document or link is appreciated.
Thanks....You can use BI publisher for your requirement -
Create a Concurrent program which is based on the executable 'XDODTEXE'
The Short_Name of the concurrent program should be the same as the data_definition short_name from Xml Publisher responsibility.
You can go through the link provided by Alex for creating the UI Template and the data template.

Q: XML Publisher build template on Word then Output to Excel file

Outputing to Excel shows me only the XML
I changed the RDF to output to XML in EBS and ran the XML Publisher concurrent process on that report (Trial Balance Detail). It completed successfully; however, when I click on view output I get the XML output instead of the EXCEL format. If I do the same thing but pick PDF, I actually get the PDF file.
What am I missing? Please help.First thing I would do is check that the transformed output file was actually produced on the server. There should be a file in the $APPLCSF/$APPLOUT directory on the database tier server that looks like <your conc program short name>_<conc_request_id>_1.EXCEL.
This assumes the template you used was an rtf. You can't choose an Excel format with any other kind of template
Also, did you choose a format of Excel in the Layout section of the concurrent request. If you don't it will default to something else.
If the .EXCEL file exists and you chose an output format of Excel and your request completed normally, I would log a tar with Oracle support.
It does work, here at least. We are running version 5.6.2 against EBS 11.5.10.2.
Also we have found that we get better results by using an XSL-XML template and transforming to the XMLSpreadsheet Schema (otherwise known as XMLSS). This only produces a .XML file so you have to define a content type mapping in the Viewer Options form to get the Excel plugin to open the file from core apps. Doesn't extend to notifications sent via the concurrent manager though.

Created Excel Template XSL, but XML output always open IE (not Excel)
Hello,
We are using :
- XML Publisher : 10.1.3.4.1
- Oracle Appli : 11.5.10.2 ( DB : 10.2.0.4.0)
- Oracle Reports Builder : 10.1.2.0.2
We use Reports for building the query that is used with XML Publisher.
We would like to use XML Publisher with an output Excel.
After noticing a problem with display of numeric cells when using a RTF template ( decimal places, there's a lot of threads on this), we decided to follow an advice on xlspe.com, and we created a Excel template, that we saved as a XML Spreadsheet, and using the xlspe tools, we generated the XSL file.
Then we defined everything in Oracle Applications EBS:
- data definition
- template ( XSL-XML as input, and XML as output. Note that XML is the only option)
- executable ( execution method "Oracle Reports" )
- program request : ( output format XML )
This works fine when the use a RTF template with an output Excel. (except the issue on the decimal places). in the concurrrent requests form, the output button opens Excel correctly.
When we go with a XSL template, with an output XML, the output generation works fine, but, in the concurrent requests form, the output button opens internet explorer IE instead of Excel (probably because it's a XML output file)
I hope my explanation is clear.
Did I make a mistake in the definition ?
Is there anyone who has experienced and solved this issue ?
Thanks a lot in advance,
OlivierHello,
After many talks, I found out how to fix this issue.
Basically, the issue is in Oracle Application where the MIME type is not defined for XML Excel type files.
By default, XML is open with the browser.
For solving the opening of XML Excel files with Excel (and not Internet Explorer IE), we had to add under the "System Admin > install > Viewer Options " a new entry for " XML - application/xnd.ms-excel - Microsoft Excel "
And also, under the System profiles, for option "Viewer: Application for XML", set the value to Microsoft Excel, and, as well, for option "Viewer: Application : Text", set the value to Browser.
This resolves the issue, and a XML Excel file generated by XML Publisher (from a XSL-XML template), is opened directly with Excel.
Thanks for your contributrion,
