XML Reformat whitespace

Hi, I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4
Is there anyway of configuring the IDE so that when reformating an XML document, whitepsace between elements is not artificially created when it doesnt exist in the firstplace.
eg.
<Author><FirstName>John</FirstName><LastName>Smith</LastName></Author>
reformats to
<Author>
<FirstName>John</FirstName>
<LastName>Smith</LastName>
</Author>
If you read http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/wang-whitespace.html it points out that these structures are not equivilent.
My defenition of reformat would include having the finished product equivilent to what you started with - otherwise it provides little use.
Thanks heaps.

Formatting includes whitespace and indentation.

    Hello,
    I have 3 XML forms that I am displaying one after another, but between this forms there is quite some whitespace. Is there a possibility to reduce this whitespace.
    PS All the controls on the RenderListItem are all the way on the top and also after the controls there is no whitespace.
    Any ideas?

  • Xml indents vs tabs in InDesign: whitespaces & linebreaks

    Hi hello!
    My name is Steven and I have an issue concerning working with XML for use in InDesign.
    I've made a valid .xml document structured with tags, so I can use the tags for rendering the lay-out (using InDesign styles).
    The mapping works well, but the hangups are whitespaces and line breaks.
    Now, what's a bit confusing is the fact that when I import the XML file into my InDesign document, it renders aswell the used tabs of my XML file.
    Basically InDesign seems to pick up whatever whitespace and linebreaks are found in the XML files.
    But these are meaningless to XML and HTML, so why does InDesign treat and XML file as if it's a formatted document?
    I found some whitespace handlings such as <?whitespace-handling use-characters?> but they don't work for me...
    Perhaps it's something I'm doing wrong? I just want InDesign to keep the linebreaks I'm using in my XML file, but not to use the tabs i'm using in XML as they just are necessary to keep the overview (legibiltiy) of my structured XML file.
    If someone wants so snif in my project it's possible by using the following link:

    I appreciate your comments!
    Othere related/simular issues: http://www.justskins.com/forums/xml-import-whitespace-and-78216.html

    Six_Steven,
    The past three and some hours I've been struggling with the exact same issue. I want *some* of the white space imported (at the end of tags that translate to paragraphs) but not *all* (i.e., in my source about every major XML element ends with a hard return).
    This post
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/510602
    gave me the crucial hint. Here is what I did: uncheck "Import white-space only elements". That way, you get everything on the same line. That's what I wanted  because I also have a simple XSLT file that basically says
    <xsl:template match="title"><title><xsl:apply-templates /><xsl:text>
    </xsl:text></title></xsl:template>
    for each of the elements where I do want a hard return at the end. Note the <xsl:text>..</xsl:text>, which contains only a single Return. This is "the" trick; all redundant white space is removed, and this one command inserts it where needed.
    (Edit) oh wait ... I needed "only one more thing" with this. And, naturally, this trick works three times but I cannot get it to work a fourth time.
    (Edit #2) Solved, after another 2 hours or so of teeth-grinding and hair-pulling.
    The trick seems to be:
    1. Do not use InDesign's own 'ignore whitespace'. It's worthless, in the sense it's an all-or-nothing option -- and you don't want either.
    2. Using XSLT, remove all whitespace inside all elements using
    <xsl:template match="text()"><xsl:value-of select="normalize-space()"/></xsl:template>
    3. .. and selectively maintain whitespace where you want it using
    <xsl:template match="saveInside//text()"><xsl:value-of select="."/></xsl:template>
    where saveInside is the name of the main XML tag in which you do want the original whitespace to remain.

  • Flash XML Slideshow - Load next image after set amount of time

    I'm creating flash xml slideshow and have managed to get the
    images to load from the XML file. What I want to do now is have a
    timer that loads the next image after x amount of seconds. Any help
    would be great.
    Code sample
    stop();
    // Create XML Object
    slideshow_xml = new XML();
    // Start slideshow once XML file is loaded
    slideshow_xml.onLoad = startSlideShow;
    //Load XML file
    slideshow_xml.load("slideshow.xml");
    //Ignore Whitespace in XML Document
    slideshow_xml.ignoreWhite = true;
    //Create Function for Slideshow - Shows first slide and

    slideText = newSlideNode.firstChild.nodeValue;

    Ok I've managed to get most of this working including the

  • OSB: fn-bea:inlinedXML format my signed XML

    Hello.
    I'm trying to replace my output xml message with the same message, but digitally signed.
    My proxy flow looks like:
    1. Call to BS.
    2. In response, take the output from BS and digitally sign it (Service callout to a signing service).
    3. Take the output from that service (it returns the signed xml into a "CDATA" section).
    4. Extract the xml (CDATA), and call to fn-bea:inlinedXML
    5. Substitute the output message with the xml in point 4).
    But "inlinedXML" seems to format the xml string (whitespace, line breaks,...), so the sign is no longer valid.
    ¿Can OSB convert from string to xml without formatting?.
    Thanks.

    Hello.
    Does anyone knows how to tell OSB to stop formatting my XML?.
    Thanks.

  • Announcement : New SPS Patch Release (v 6.0.3) Now Available

    A newer release of Service Provisioning System (version 6.0.3) is now available for download on sunsolve
    The Release Notes for this release are available here and is a good place to start.
    {color:#0000ff}*You are strongly encouraged to go through the Release Notes AND the README instructions of all the patches thoroughly before starting your patch installations.*{color}
    The following are the key changes that were incorporated in this release.
    1) A fix in the SPS transport layer code was implemented to provide performance optimization of deployment jobs over a raw, SSH or SSL connection. Specifically, customers using an SSL connection between MS and the RA/LD nodes can observe noticeable performance improvements while deploying large payloads.
    2) A fix was also added to correct the default database encoding for customers who want to use extended ASCII character sets. This would not only facilitate clean database migration between 5.2 to 6.0 of any UTF-8 characters, but also ensure data integrity on fresh 6.0 installation. It's strongly recommended that customers take necessary steps to apply this fix on their SPS 6.0 installations.
    3) Certain GUI related      bugs were fixed and some missing functionality was added back.
    4) It is to be noted that this is a cumulative patch on top of the earlier patch release version 6.0.2. Hence all the bug fixes that were delivered with the 6.0.2 patch are also accumulated into the 6.0.3 patch
    5) Response time of GUI login validation has been improved.

    another option would be to make either the n1sps export not writing explicit end tags
    <element />
    instead of
    <element></element>
    or
    making the import / schema a bit less sensitive about whitespace within elements. The current bug, that you cannot export the xml, reformat in netBeans and then re-import is extremely annoying.

  • SAX parser splits up character data; I expected Ign. whitesp

    Im am working on a XML parser for loading data from some back
    end systems into an Oracle 8i database. I am using the SAX
    parser for this purpose. After doing some tests with larger
    amounts of XML data (> 1M), I found some unexpected behaviour.
    The parser sometimes splits up character data into two chunks of
    data. The XML looks as follows:
    <TAGNAME> this is the character data </TAGNAME>
    The parser raises the following events:
    1 startElement name = "TAGNAME"
    2 characters chbuf = " "
    3 characters chbuf = "this is the character data "
    4 endElement name = "TAGNAME"
    I expected an ignorableWhitespace event at step 2. The XML
    document contains repetitive tagnames. The strange thing about
    the parse process is that the parser splits up the character
    data only sometimes, and I can't determine any kind of logica
    for this behaviour. Most occurrences of exactly the same tagname
    and character data are parsed correctly (that is, as I
    expected).
    Am I dealing with correct behaviour here, or is it a bug??

    Thank you for your quick response.
    In my test XML, there are about 27500 tags containing character
    data. All character data starts with a whitespace character.
    After parsing the xml, the whitespace of only 5 (!) tags is
    treated as a seperate character event (so two character events
    are raised in succession). The remaining tags all raise only ONE
    character event for the entire character data. I can't explain
    the difference in treatment.

  • Error while inluding xsd:whiteSpace in web-services.xml

    Hi,
    i am trying to allow the xml attribute values to preserve the whiteSpace characters(tabs, line feeds, carriage returns etc...)
    In web-services.xml i am adding

    <xsd:whiteSpace value="preserve"/>

    [weblogic.xml.schema.model.parser.XSDParseException: invalid element "xsd:whiteSpace" AT line 0, column 0: <['http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema']:xsd:whiteSpace value="preserve">]
    am i doing in a correct way?
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks

    weblogic server doesn't support some of the xsd features.
    WebLogic Server does not support the following XML Schema features:
    ?     Complex data type inheritance by restriction
    ?     Union simple data types
    ?     References to named model groups
    ?     Nested content models in a single complex type
    ?     Redefinition of declarations
    ?     Identity constraints (key, keyref, unique)
    ?     Nested XSD model groups with other content models at the same level.
    There cannot be a modelgroup (say sequence) that contains another nested modelgroup (say choice), and a content element (say element). So, if a nested modelgroup is required, make sure that it contains only another model group and no other content element.
    ?     Wildcards
    but i didn't understand why its giving error for whiteSpace.
    Can someone reply to this please,, its urgent for me.

    Hi Tim,
    Could you post the entire traceback?
    Also, you might try the verify utility against the WSDL just as a check:

    You are using clientgen to build the client?

  • Parse XML file, read a tag with whitespaces value.

    Hi all,
    I've got a problem with reading a spaced value record from xml file using sys.xmltype.
    My xml file contains the following:
    <?xml version = '1.0'?>;
    <ROWSET>
    <ROW num="1">
    <FIRSTNAME>Nik</FIRSTNAME>
    <LASTNAME> </LASTNAME>
    <AGE>30</AGE>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    As you see last name contains four spaces!
    Now when I'm trying to read value from LASTNAME record I'm getting a NULL value, but I want it to return me those 4 spaces as they are.
    Here is a short code description of what I'm doing:
    declare
         xml sys.xmltype;
    str1 varchar2(100);
    str2 varchar2(100);
    begin
         xml := sys.xmltype.createxml(fileContentClob); -- I copy the file content into the fileContentClob variable.
         If xml.existsnode('//ROW['1']/LASTNAME') > 0 Then -- This condition evaluates as true
    str1 := xml.extract('//ROW['1']/LASTNAME/text()'); -- str1 gets NULL value :(, I want spaces as they are in the file.
    str2 := xml.extract('//ROW[' || 1 || ']/LASTNAME').getstringval; -- str2 gets <LASTNAME/> null tag :(.
         End If;
    end;
    Seems like when it createxml from the fileContentClob it ignores the spaces and find LASTNAME as a null field.
    Do you have any suggestions on how can I fix that, so I can read whitespaces as they are in the file?
    I generate the file also using a xml toolpackage from oracle:
    declare
    strSqlStmt Varchar2(300);
    varCtxHdl dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
    varClob Clob;
    begin
    strSqlStmt := 'SELECT FIRSTNAME,LASTNAME,AGE FROM USERS WHERE ROWNUM =1';
    varCtxHdl := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext(strSqlStmt);
    varClob := dbms_xmlquery.getxml(varCtxHdl);
    dbms_xmlquery.closecontext(varCtxHdl);
    End;

    Even if the STORE AS CLOB clause is used to store the data and preserve whitespace for the XML, the actual extraction of data seems to be removing whitespace...

  • Whitespaces in XML during message mapping not preserved

    I use a twostep mapping process during Interface Mapping. The first one is the standard message mapping and the second one is a Java mapping. However, during the second step, the white spaces that should be preserved from the output of the first mapping is not there anymore. I created the XSD and specified in the details that the white spaces should be preserved.
    I need the whitespaces since the output of the second mapping would be used for file content conversion in a file adapter to create the output:
    MSGTYP CONTROLNOMSGID VALUE1VALUE2 VALUEn.....
    Is there any way to preserve the white spaces?
    Thanks!
    Best Regards,
    Rommel Mendoza

    This is odd. Java won't condense/trim the whitespaces unless explicitely told so.
    Where are you seeing the missing whitespaces?
    Please notice that SXMB_MONI won't show the spaces because it uses a HTML representation of the XML (and, by default, HTML condenses the whitespaces). But the actual XML file should have all the spaces (check the XML document source code, through mouse right click over payload, to be sure).
    Also, what are the conversions you do in the java mapping?
    Are you sure the java mapping input has the whitespaces?
    Regards,
    Henrique.

  • TextFlow XML export issue with missing whitespaces

    If I export a TextFlow into XML (with either TextFlowUtil or TextConverter) it will lose white spaces where they occur between elements, so that a subsequence import will yield different content from the original. A simple example being:
    "Where is my white space". Will export and re-import to give: "Whereismywhitespace".
    This happens in the XML build process because when a text node is programatically appended (with appendChild()) white spaces are stripped from the start and end. For example, if you do xml.appendChild("     hello    ") you actually get an XML element containing just "hello".
    Now I understand there is a directive (XML.ignoreWhiteSpace) to ignore or keep white space when parsing nodes already set in the XML, but I cannot see how to do this when you are building the XML from some data structure (like a TextFlow), or indeed when creating an XML object from a String that contains XML notation.
    I am unaware how you can include surrounding whitespace in an XML node (short of CDATA). And the fact that the TextFlow XML import/export loses information seems to make it, well, pretty pointless.
    So, how do I retain these white spaces in a TextFlow in an exported XML?

    The solution for this problem consists of two parts.
    First part is exporting the xml from the textflow, you want no formatted XML (with breaks, tabs, ...), but one long string with the spaces left like there were entered between the tags, this can be done with:
    _textXML = TextConverter.export(EditorID.textFlow,TextConverter.TEXT_LAYOUT_FORMAT,ConversionType.STRING_TYPE) as String;
    Use the TextConverter in stead of the TextFlowUtil.
    Second part is back importing to textFlow:
    There the solution mentioned above was correct.
    XML.ignoreWhitespace = false;
    var flowXML:XML = new XML(_textXML);
    contentTLF = TextFlowUtil.importFromXML(flowXML,WhiteSpaceCollapse.PRESERVE);
