XML rendering in browser

I have created several medium-sized (100-200 page) xml documents for my company, and successfully displayed them in a browser (formatting through css). However, the images do not display as (I believe) the entity locations don't accurately point to the image file.
I recently completed a 1000+ page document, divided into chapters and compiled into an xml Framemaker book. The book file points to entity locations (chapters and graphics) and the chapter file names have a suffix of ".e0x" as described by the developer's manual. The chapter files do not seem to be connected to the book xml file; neither my xml editor or browser recognize connections between the book and the chapter files.
Here are my questions.
1. How do you create entity references that identify image locations to a browser (rwr or struc app)?
2. How do you create entity references that identify xml file locations?

That was it! Thanks!

• XML rendering in IE and Netscape

Hi all,
I have a simple servlet that streams xml data to the browser. When I view the page in IE it is formatted in the DHTML tree structure but with Netscape 7 it is messed up. However when I open an xml document directly in Netscape, it works! My JSP page has an IFrame that streams the XML data. Can someone let me know why XML rendering does not work in Netscape but in IE? Do I need to set some browser specific parameter in my servlet?
Many thanks

• How to return a html repsonse after form guide rendering in browser?

How to return a html repsonse after form guide rendering in browser indicating that server has recieved transmission and request is submitted succesfuly?
I am rendering the form guide in browser using guide invoke service and when i submit the data in browser to server through guide , it is displaying some random number in browser?
i need to display a resposne that request is submitted successfully?

how could i define a variable with "html data" ?
Create a variable of type document and then a service to read the html from where ever it's located. If you put it in LiveCycle, you can use the ReadRessource service. If it's on the file system, you can use the Read Document. If it's in the database, you can use the JDBC service.
Also, one more doubt where should i use this variable in my process to get the same?
You want the response once you've submitted the data, so the html is really the result of calling the process that's processing the data. So I would create an output variable of type document on that process.
Right now it displays a random number in the browser because your submit process is long lived. When a process is long lived (asynchronous), you invoke it and then you get an identifier back. It's kind of a fire and forget. You can use that identifier to check the status of the long lived process, since long lived processes can take hours, days to complete. You don't want your browser to wait that long, hence the identifier.
However if you change the process to be short lived (synchronous), the browser will wait for the result of the process, which really means the output variables for that process. If your output variable contains html, it'll display html.
So the key is make you submit process short lived and populate the output variables appropriately.

• If only I had XML rendering

I know people have talked about this before but its killing me so I thought I would bring it up again. Safari 4.0 is awesome but the one deficit Safari has that keeps me from using it as my only browser is its inability to render XML. All the other major browsers can do this and Opera allows you to plug in a JavaScript extension to handle this task. As a developer who constantly deals with XML this is a big deal. I frequently hit XML-RPC or REST services from the browser or use web apps that deal with XML. Sometimes I just want a light weight way of viewing pretty printed XML. When Safari gets XML it just renders the text nodes. You can use the "View source" option to see the actual XML but its not pretty printed, can be difficult to read, and adds another step into process.
This has to be an easy feature to add! I didn't see any obvious way to submit feature requests so I'm hoping some Apple product people read this. Thanks!

Did you look inside the iPhoto Library/Originals folder to see if the image files were in there? If you're lucky they were only deleted from the library and not the hard drive.
The external HD problem is very perplexing. Was it mounted when you had to force quit out of iPhoto? Run Disk Utility on it to repair the disk. See if that will bring back the photos. It could be a damaged directory file that is making them not appear there. DiskWarrior would be the tool to use to rebuild the directory file on the external. It's one of my "got to have" utilities for maintenance and repair.
If you can't recover the image files download and run SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to see how many image files it says it can recover. It lets you do that before you commit to purchase. The downside to that is the recovered files will have some strange file name that the application gives it and will be difficult to organize except by visual examination.
If you get them back I'd start a new library and import all over again. Don't mess with the current library as it's probably corrupted. You might also consider reinstalling iPhoto from the disks it came one, update to the latest version and repair disk permissions.

• HTTPService not reading updated xml, i've been having to refresh the xml in my browser manually

I am calling an HTTPService (id=data2php) which runs a php
script which creates an xml doc and puts it on my server. i then
call another HTTPService (id=feedRequest) which reads the xml doc.
i then try to populate a datagrid with the lastResult of my
HTTPService that reads the xml doc. My issue is that that the
HTTPService which reads the xml doc reads the previous incarnation
of the xml doc, not the newly created one that my HTTPService
(data2php) created. i've been manually going to the xml doc in my
browser and hitting refresh for my feedRequest HTTPService to read
the updated xml.
here is the mxml for the httpservice that reads the xml:
<mx:HTTPService id="feedRequest" url="
http://cfcdi.org/eric/dashboard/php/sales.xml"
result="feedResult(event)" resultFormat="xml" useProxy="false"/>
pretty straight forward.
(actually, once in a while it will read the updated
one)

LittleMuscle,
Instead of binding to the lastResult property, I would
explicitly handle the result and fault events of the HTTPService
(the one that reads the newly created xml doc) and then manually
update an XMLListCollection for use as the datagrid's dp. That way,
you can at least walk through the debugger and see what's going on,
and force the second HTTPService to read only when you're sure the
newly created doc is ready.
Since you said it works sometimes and not other times, it
sounds like it's just a timing problem, sometimes the xml doc is
created quickly enough that the HTTPService grabs the new xml doc,
but if not, it's grabbing the old one. That would be my
guess.

• Xml response in browser .. how to deal with

OK .. I have a basic question here but I'm long winded so bear with me.
Background:
I am submitting an HTML form to a secure website, with a username/password, and that web site in turn returns me a webpage with XML in it that looks something like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<string xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">http://blahblah.blah.com/index.aspx?ticket=fabcdefjkjlkjlkja;lkh31bba5f7</string>
the webpage is https, it's secured.
I can submit the my form (not included in this post because it's not a problem) and get the XML back in the browser - but how, in my JSP or servlet (either / or) .. what is the API to retrieve the XML response (above) from the browser .......... I can manage to parse it once I can get it.
I've done some research. but the more I do the more I get confused.
Is it just something like request.getParameter(something or other) once the form is submitted?
Do I need to use SAX/JAX, or DOM, XMLHTTP, javascript, HTTPClient, Xerces, Xalan ... sooooooooooo confused. ..... to actually retrieve that page into something I can work with in Java?
Like I said once I get the page in a variable, somehow, I'm sure I can figure out how to parse the "string" variable out ................ the objective there then is to redirect the user to that URL
I'm really lost ........... help!!!!!!!
Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi. Thanks for your thoughtful answers.
My actual problem is much more basic. I know where to put business logic, I know how to parse XML.
It's not either of those that is the problem.
Here is my scenario:
I am auto submitting a form in a servlet. (this works fine). It's an authenticated POST to an external web site.
The submission of this form creates a browser response -- a WEB PAGE (*https*!!!!) with information I need in it (that the user shouldn't actually see). It happens to be XML. But even if it was a chapter of a book, my question is ... after the form is submitted (no problem), and the browser shows the webpage (no problem), how, in java or javascript, do I
get the contents of that https:// webpage. (that's my problem!!)
Does this kind of clarify my question? I'm kind of looking for more specific answers than what technology to use. Should this XML be part of the response from the POST?
When I try to create an xml source, I get the following:
Exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target
Maybe this willhelp you. We were given the ASP code to do this.
the way that it goes about this is
{color:#ff0000}Set objRequest = Server.createObject("MSXML2.SERVERXMLHTTP"){color}
objectRequest.open="POST", "https://blahlblahblah", False
objectRequest.setRequestHeader "Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"
objectRequest.Send (blah blah blah ..... the parameters
' my comment: AT THIS POINT THIS IS LIKE SUBMITTING THE FORM, no? Except for the red part
'then they get the contents by this:
dim GetTheContents
GetTheContents = objectRequest.responseText
Then they proceed to parse it in a very ugly fashion, but I will use DOM or the like. but at least the variable "GetTHeContents" has the contents of the https webpage that was returned by the external site after submitting the form.
Thanks again. I hope I helped clarify instead of created more confusion.
PS I am trying AJAX now. I still can't manage to put the contents of the webpage into some kind of variable (or get it from some other kind of variable). This is my first round with Ajax.

• Duplicated POST to XML from Safari browser

In Safari 3.1.1 for Windows POST to XML is duplicated by browser. Seemingly this happens due to some server's response.
(POST from other browsers is not duplicated, and in Safari browser POST from a page that is built on server tags is not duplicated).
The POST is sent asynchronously by Javascript XMLHttpRequest object.
Please refer to the code below, I'm new here, if there's a better way to add attachments please let me know...

function onStateChange()
if (XHR.readyState == 4 && XHR.status == 200)

• Open .xml file in browser

Here is what I am trying accomplish: I have a bunch of XML files saved in a shared drive, I created an Infopath schema based on that xml and published it to a Sharepoint library. I want to be able to
click on any of the the .xml files in my drive and have them open in the browser, right now it is working when I right click and select "Open in Infopath".
I figured this could be achieved by modifying the header of the xml to include the URL where the associated schema has was published to Sharepoint:
<?mso-infoPathSolution name="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:infopath:EFT:FieldTicket-Report" solutionVersion="1.0.0.6" productVersion="16.0.0.0" PIVersion="1.0.0.0" href="https://blah.sharepoint.com/sites/blah/EFT/Forms/template.xsn"?>
To include something like .../Forms/template.xsn?OpenIn=Browser" but of course this isn't working.
Is there a way to do this? Thank you

• problem: Outputting XML to a browser and file

Hi, thanks in advance for any help,
I have a program that produces xml needs to output it to a file and to the browser. Producing the xml is fine but the outputting part is giving me some problems:
1. On ouputting to the browser, MSIE is complaining that the symbol is an invalid character. I have tried wrapping it in CDATA tags but to no avail.
2. On outputting to the file I am getting all ' symbols replaced by ' which isn't suitable either.
I was wondering how I could set these formats so I get pure text out to the file but unicode encodings for browser.
Below I have specified the code for outputting to the browser first and to a file second.
Cheers.
private void sendXML(HttpServletResponse pHttpServletResponse, Document pDocument) throws IOException{
pHttpServletResponse.setContentType("text/xml");
Writer lOut = pHttpServletResponse.getWriter();
OutputFormat lFormat = new OutputFormat(pDocument, "UTF-8", true );
XMLSerializer lSerial = new XMLSerializer(lOut, lFormat);
lSerial.asDOMSerializer();
lSerial.serialize(pDocument);
lOut.close();
private void writeDoc2File(Document pDocument, String pFilepath){
try{
Transformer xsltIdentity = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
DOMSource domSource = new DOMSource(pDocument);
StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter();
StreamResult streamResult = new StreamResult(stringWriter);
xsltIdentity.transform(domSource, streamResult);
String xmlnode = stringWriter.toString();
RandomAccessFile lRAF = new RandomAccessFile(pFilepath, "rw");
lRAF.setLength(0);
lRAF.seek(0);
lRAF.writeBytes(xmlnode);
lRAF.close();
catch(IOException e){
cLOG.debug(e.getMessage(), e);
catch(Exception e){
cLOG.debug(e.getMessage(), e);
}

I've just noticed that this site has a similar problem! The character I am having problems with is the UK pound symbol.
