XML to Flash Text

I am trying to load text from XML to Flash, My XML document
looks like this.
<tutorial>
<introduction>Welcome</introduction>
<scenario>This is the scenario</scenario>
</tutorial>
Here is my ActionScript code. How do I get it to load so I
can have a text box display welcome instead of all the XML.

stop();
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.TEXT;
loader.load( new URLRequest("example.xml"));
loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textReady);
var tutorial:XML = new XML();
var tutList:XMLList;
var myText_txt:TextField = new TextField();
addChild(myText_txt);
myText_txt.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
function textReady(event:Event):void{
tutList = XML(event.target.data).children();
myText_txt.text = tutList[0];
}

  • Android, backspace doesn't work properly in a flash.text.TextField

    Hello,
    I have a bug on my Nexus 5 Android 4.4 Air 4.0.
    when I scroll the text in the textField and I select the text (in my example near "subclass" word), the TextField get focus, if I put on the backspace key, the character deleted is the previous character the first time, and if I put again on the backspace key, the caracter deleted is the first character and not the previous character.

You can give a text field an instance name in the Property inspector and use the methods and properties of the TextField class to manipulate it with ActionScript. TextField instance names are displayed in the Movie Explorer and in the Insert Target Path dialog box in the Actions panel.\nTo create a text field dynamically, use the TextField() constructor.\n\nThe methods of the TextField class let you set, select, and manipulate text in a dynamic or input text field that you create during authoring or at runtime.\n\nActionScript provides several ways to format your text at runtime. The TextFormat class lets you set character and paragraph formatting for TextField objects. You can apply Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) styles to text fields by using the TextField.styleSheet property and the StyleSheet class. You can use CSS to style built-in HTML tags, define new formatting tags, or apply styles. You can assign HTML formatted text, which optionally uses CSS styles, directly to a text field. HTML text that you assign to a text field can contain embedded media (movie clips, SWF files, GIF files, PNG files, and JPEG files). The text wraps around the embedded media in the same way that a web browser wraps text around media embedded in an HTML document.\n\nFlash Player supports a subset of HTML tags that you can use to format text. • Help... link URL from XML to Flash Action Script 2

    I am trying to link a different URL to each of my files in XML and use this XML in Flash were I created a carousel. In the carousel, when you click on a picture I would like to insert a specific URL. Each picture will have a different URL (http://------------).
    Here are my codes:
    XML:
    <icons>
    <icon image="icon1.png" tooltip="Planning" />
    <icon image="icon2.png" tooltip="Investments" />
    <icon image="icon3.png" tooltip="Education" />
    <icon image="icon4.png" tooltip="Insurances" />
    <icon image="icon5.png" tooltip="Mortgages" />
    <icon image="icon6.png" tooltip="Retirement" />
    <icon image="icon7.png" tooltip="Business Owner" />
    <icon image="icon8.png" tooltip="Banking" />
    </icons>
    Flash Action Script 2:
    import mx.utils.Delegate;
    var numOfItems:Number;
    var radiusX:Number = 250;
    var radiusY:Number = 75;
    var centerX:Number = Stage.width/2;
    var centerY:Number = Stage.height/2;
    var speed:Number = 0.01;
    var perspective:Number = 60;
    var home:MovieClip = this;
    var tooltip:MovieClip = this.attachMovie("tooltip","tooltip",10000);
    tooltip._alpha = 0;
    var xml:XML = new XML();

    for(var i=0;i<numOfItems;i++)
      var t = home.attachMovie("item","item"+i,i+1);

    this._y = Math.sin(this.angle) * radiusY + centerY;
    var s = (this._y - perspective) / (centerY+radiusY-perspective);
    this._xscale = this._yscale = s * 100
    this.angle += this._parent.speed;
    this.swapDepths(Math.round(this._xscale) + 100);
    this.onMouseMove = function()
    speed = (this._xmouse-centerX)/10000;
    Thanks so much for the help.

    You should be able to add that data into your xml tags and then extract it in the AS2 onLoad function...
    XML:
    <icons>
    <icon image="icon1.png" tooltip="Planning" linkURL="http://www.someURL.com/somePage.html" />
    AS2:
    xml.onLoad = function()
    etc....
    t.onEnterFrame = mover;
    t.toolText = nodes[i].attributes.tooltip;
    t.urlLink = nodes[i].attributes.linkURL;
    etc...

  • Saving XML from Flash XML.sendAndLoad

    I'm new to XML and haven't a clue how to integrate Flash xml
    and Coldfusion 7. There is a Flash app ( I didn't develop it) that
    is sending xml.sendAndLoad formatted data like this to a cf page
    setSummaryQuiz.cfm
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <result lessonID="19" userID="56">
    <word id="281" value="1" />
    <word id="282" value="1" />
    <word id="283" value="5" />
    <word id="284" value="5" />
    <word id="285" value="3" />
    <word id="286" value="7" />
    <word id="287" value="3" />
    <word id="288" value="8" />
    <word id="289" value="7" />
    <word id="290" value="4" />
    <word id="291" value="8" />
    <word id="292" value="2" />
    <word id="293" value="5" />
    <word id="294" value="4" />
    <word id="295" value="1" />
    <word id="296" value="4" />
    <word id="297" value="8" />
    <word id="298" value="1" />
    <word id="299" value="7" />
    <word id="300" value="1" />
    </result>
    My page is supposed to return saved = true or false like
    this:
    <? xml version = " 1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?>
    <result saved = "true"/>
    Can someone help me or point me to a tutorial or code snippet
    where I can see how CF reads and parses the XML data from
    Flash?

    In ASP setting the response type to "text/xml" you can do a
    response.write command to send back XML to Flash if you were
    performing an XMLSendAndLoad command ie. send XML from Flash,
    processed by ASP and receive an XML response from the ASP - good
    for Flash to know if something worked or an error resulted in
    processing the info.

  • XML from Flash ASP

    I'm running a test to see if I can pass XML from flash to an
    ASP file. The following code is used in Flash. But how would I
    access the xml variable in an ASP file?

    performing an XMLSendAndLoad command ie. send XML from Flash,

  • Load variables from XML into Flash

    I was wondering how to load variables from an XML document to
    a Flash file? I am familiar with the code to do it for a text file,
    but was wondering how to do it for XML.
    Many thanks in advance!
    JJ

    Thanks for the recommendation on the site. What I am trying
    to do is load varaibles from an XML file into text boxes in my
    flash movie.
    Here is my loading:
    var my_xml = new XML();
    my_xml.ignoreWhite = true;
    my_xml.onLoad = function(success){
    if (success) {
    gotoAndStop("slide01");
    my_xml.load("narration.xml");
    this is what I have on my frame with the text boxes (the text
    boxes are also have the variable name in the variable area)
    var narration = my_xml.picture01;
    var my_title = my_xml.my_title;
    var my_date = my_xml.my_date;
    should I do my_date.text = my_xml.my_date; instead?
    my xml doc looks like this
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
    <picture01>This is the text for picture
    01</picture01>
    <picture02>This is the text for picture
    02</picture02>
    <my_title>Las Vegas</my_title>
    <my_date>October</my_date>
    Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Text
    my_date.text = my_xml.my_date;

  • Flash text and flash buttons in DW CS4

    Hi,
    I have installed DW CS4 on my pc with Vista Home Premium 64
    Bit...I have edit my website homepage and I have discovered that I
    can't edit all flash text and buttons that I have created with DW
    CS3! I have see that the adobe has removed from CS4 version this
    option! So, now how I can resolve this problem??
    I have try to install also the CS3 version but I don't
    understand because I can't no more activated it from internet or
    phone option!
    I'm very angry for this, now I have to recreate from the
    begin all flash text and buttons of my website with other software?
    perhaps to buy also the Flash CS4 version for the solution? is this
    the new idea of adobe with their new CS4 version?

    > I'm very angry for this, now I have to recreate from the

    > CS4
    > version?
    It was a poor choice on Adobe's part to ever include such an
    option, and on
    your part for using it. Think about it -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    Especially
    consider those people who are browsing from a corporate
    internet where Flash
    is not allowed by the IT staff.
    2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will
    not be
    spidered unless you have redundant HTML links
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    You will have
    to remake those buttons.
    It's almost always a very bad idea for these reasons.
    The solution is to make graphics to replace the Flash
    elements, or just use
    CSS styled text.

  • Named file entity do not load in from xml files(eg., !DOCTYPE PURANA SYSTEM "purana.dtd" [ !ENTITY CHAPTER_1 SYSTEM "./chapter_1.xml" ] ?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="purana.xsl"? PURANA TITLE /TITLE &CHAPTER_1; /PURANA )

    I create several file name entities in an external DTD.
    It used to work sometimes back but I don't remember now when it begun to fail.
    typical document for eg., is given below:
    <!DOCTYPE PURANA SYSTEM "purana.dtd" [ <!ENTITY CHAPTER_1 SYSTEM "./chapter_1.xml"> ]>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="purana.xsl"?> <PURANA>
    <TITLE>
    </TITLE>
    &CHAPTER_1;
    </PURANA>)
    the abbreviation used to work by loading the file using XSL script,
    but now it does not even work when the entity is defined within the XML document itself.

    Too difficult???
    Please helped me.
    Thank you, Theo
