Xorg 1.8 + Synaptics --- Erroneous Error Messages?

I upgraded to Xorg 1.8, and it seems to working fine. I do get some errors when I start though:
SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad no synaptics even device found
(EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: no supported touchpad found
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
But my touchpad works fine. Anyone know why this is? Is there some further configuration that I need to do? I have already customized the settings a bit in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf.

I had a similar error. It would find a touchpad at /dev/input/event6 and then again at /dev/input/mouse0.
From what I could figure out. Xorg was applying the synaptic driver to the first instance that was given to it from udev and then when the second instance is givin to it by udev under the mouse0 dev it wasn't there anymore.
My solution was to add this to my  /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "disabling synaptic second mouse found"
MatchProduct "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/mouse0"
Option "Ignore" "on"
EndSection

  • [solved] Xorg quits after 'startx' no error message

    Hi guys,
So I'm a little perplexed. One day my system just started quitting xorg. I had it to startx upon login, but that would just flash my monitors black and then return my to a login prompt. So I went in and tried to analyse the log file but I didn't have much luck. I'm going to post it here and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.

[ 569.688] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
I have my system fully up to date, I really have no idea why one day it would just stop working.
I saw that at line 568.521 there was a failure of ACPI but I really am not sure how that would affect my system.
Only thing I can think of in conjunction with this issue, is that I setup my foldingathome client to be enabled in systemctl. It started making weird graph glitches in my tty so I disabled it. Not sure if they are linked or not.
    Thanks!

I uninstalled nvidia-304xx and installed nvidia with needed dependencies. This is the output I get from running 'startx'. It does the exact same thing, looks like it's going to load screen flickers and then kicks me back saying it was terminated successfully.

  • Erroneous "IE 6.0 or greater" error message on Reader 10.0.1 install

    Greetings,
We have recently upgraded to Reader 10.0.1 and this was done by a group policy push. 47 PCs accepted the Reader update correctly.
However, 3 PCs failed to take the update. I have tried doing a manual install on these PCs but this also failed with this erroneous error message:
"Adobe Reader X (10.0.1) requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater....."
All our PCs are identically configured using a Standard Desktop Configuration, so I know the error msg doesn't make any sense.
We are using Vista and Internet Explorer version 7.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Tony

I'm having the same issue. Our environment is Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8. Deploying with AD or manual install give the same error message. The registry and IE8 both report the correct version.

  • Bogus error message: "The field jnlp has an invalid value: https."

We are running into a variant of an old bug. With a Windows XP client using JRE 1.5.0_05, we get:
{noformat}Launch File Error: The field <jnlp> has an invalid value: https
    Java 1.4+ is required for HTTPS support{noformat}
which of course is a strange thing for a 1.5 JRE to be squawking about. We found a Sun bug report 6433293 that reports this behavior as occuring on Solaris but not on Windows. We're seeing it on Windows. The bug report suggests that the error message text is the "wrong message" and may be totally unrelated to the actual problem (although it is triggered by having an https URL in the "href" attribute of the <jnlp> tag).
Because of our customer environment, upgrading the JRE beyond 1.5.0_05 is NOT an option for us. I googled the message and found one blogpost that suggested the error may be related to the XML encoding (which seems surprising, but they claimed changing the encoding fixed the problem for them). I tried fiddling with the encoding values, but to no avail. Anyone know anything about this bug, and any possible workarounds?

We finally found the solution to this, so I will follow up for the sake of posterity. Thanks, Andrew, for the pointer to JaNeLa. While it didn't tip us off to this particular problem, it did get us thinking in the right direction: that there was something about the JNLP file, completely unrelated to what the error message was reporting, that was causing the problem. Turns out that the Java 1.5.0_05 WebStart JNLP parser had a bug, such that it was tripped up by a JNLP file containing more than one XML comment in immediate succession. It seems unbelievable, but it was completely reproducible. Our JNLP file began like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!-- here's a valid XML comment -->
<!-- here's another valid XML comment, but it freaks out JWS 1.5.0_05 -->
<jnlp spec="1.0+" codebase="https://ourserver/ourApp" href="https://ourserver/ourApp/ourApp.jnlp"/> By accounts, this was patched in 1.5.0_10, and we know that the problem didn't occur in 1.6.0_13. In case anyone else has this problem, that's something to look for. (Note: this isn't the only cause of this erroneous error message. It apparently got printed out when the parser was unhappy about various things. I saw another report that someone had a problem with their "encoding" attribute value on their xml header, and fixing that solved their problem.)

  • Receiving error message "remove shipping lock from yellow cartridge" Laserjet CP1525n

Purchased replacement yellow cartridge and followed replacement instructions. Now receiving error message that the shipping lock needs removed. It has been removed but printer will not operate and I continue to receive the message.

I would verfiy that all packing material was removed by viewing this link here. After that if you are still getting that error message, I would do a hard rest to the machine. No user settings are lost with a hard reset and it will attempt to clear erroneous error message and restore the printer to a known working condition if possible. To do a hard reset:
    1. With the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet, and turned on, unplug the cord from the rear of the printer.
    2. Then unplug the cord from the wall socket.
    3. Wait at least 30-60 seconds
    4. Plug the power cord back into the wall socket first. If the cord has a module in it, make sure that the light on the module is lit up and then plug cord back into the rear of the printer
    5. The printer might power back on by itself, but if not use the power button on the machine to turn it back on.

  • [Solved] xorg server & keyboard conf error messages after upgrade

I ran my daily upgrade (today was big, from FF to the kernel to xorg) and I was not able to login on GDM afterwards.
It's weird. The X server will start, and so will the GDM login screen. But entering the password will result in a GDM crash (I later found out that KDM and SLIM have the same issue; KDM not starting and SLIM refusing the keyboard input). So after starting an alternate console and trying to start x (startx), I have this error message:
"Th e XKEYBOARDMAP keymap compiler (xbcomp) reports:
Error: Cannot close "/tmp/server-0.xkm" properly (not enough space?)
              Output file "/tmp/server-0.xkm" removed
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
    XKB: Failed to compile keymap
Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config.
    Fatal server error:
Failed to activate core devices "
I have been fiddling with the keyboard config on xorg.conf but I'm not sure I'm getting anywhere. Also, I downgraded the xorg-server and xkeyboard config packages just to be sure.
    Any clue?
    Thanks!

Well... seems I didn't have any answer on this. I fiddled a bit more but I have to say that I really came to wits' end at this stage. A couple of observations though:
    * I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
    * I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.
    Thanks!

  • Are some TM error messages erroneous?

What does this error message mean? Does it truly mean that a German themed FCP help file is fouling up my back up attempt? Or are some of these messages erroneous?

    Yes
    Nov 17 09:27:38 Macintosh /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd124: Error: (-36) SrcErr:NO Copying /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/Resources/German.lproj/Final Cut Pro Help/Final Cut Pro Benutzerhandbuch.pdf to /Volumes/SurLaBackup/Backups.backupdb/Dior's Computer/2008-11-17-084712.inProgress/7E5E3459-554E-47CD-AAAD-E2F3D5FA3AB1/Pemb erley HD/Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/Resources/German.lproj/Final Cut Pro Help
Final Cut has many languages installed. Apparently one these files is corrupt. The German Help file.
Have you run DU and repaired HD and permissions recently?
If so, you might try DiskWarrior
Otherwise I would make a backup clone with SuperDuper! or CCC and test it and then see if you can remove the errant file. Bear in mind that this might cause other problems which is why you make the clone first.
You might also use Pacifist and reinstall the German Help file from the CD.

Looks like you can choose from :
-contact the maintainer to see if you can help with getting it to work with kernel 3.16
    - downgrade the kernel
    - switch to nouveau
Note that there are comments on the aur page that state nvidia-173xx doesn't work with xorg 1.16, so you may have to downgrade more then just the kernel.

  • Error Message: Messed up File

I completed a very large complex project in Photoshop, and had a complex path copied to my clipboard from Illustrator and was pasting it into PS. I placed it as a shape and got the following error message:
Could not complete the Open command because the path is too complex
O.K., I can live with that, EXCEPT my document, while it opens, has ZERO layers.
Is there any way to recover?

Hi. I don't know if you still need this. It could be useful for whoever else gets this error. I just had this problem too. I had a couple of very complex paths imported from Illustrator and I think other vector masks just took the file over board, so that when I next opened it I received that same message: "Could not complete task because the path is too complex" Here is a workaround that I found.
You can still use the Move Tool(shortcut key "v") to select layers and there are a couple of things you can do with it.
1.You can create a new PS file of the same dimensions (and most importantly same resolution or the scales will be different).
    a) make sure the "corrupted" and the new files are side by side or overlapping so that you can see edges of both...
b)Right click the erroneous document and choose the layer you want to move from the context menu. (You may get the "path too complex" message again when you do anything with the document, just click "ok")
c)Click and drag the layer from old document into the new.
d)Continue with all layers if desired.
    2. Figure out which layer(s) might be taxing the document with paths and either move just that one into a different document or delete it.
a)To delete go to "Layer" menu --> "Delete" --> "Layer"
It worked for me. Best if you are in the habit of naming your files.

  • Change of error message into warning message

While doing FBZP i have found the following error.
Clearing acct only allowed for an outgoing bill of exch.pmnt
    Message no. F3029
I am not able to go further, the above message is coming.
I want to make the error message into warning message.
    Please suggest, how to overcome

    Hello BSR,
The Error message F3029 is raised when the clearing account (T042I-VKONT) is filled but the payment method in question is not defined as "Bill/exchange".
I assume that the field is not changable at the moment. You may make necessary changes (delete the entry or delete the specified account) with the instructions below.
    1. Go to Tcd: FBZP -> Click [Pmt methods in country]
    2. Select the entry for the erroneous country(?)/payment method
    3. Change Payment method classification to 'Bill/ex' and save
Now you should be able to change "Set Up Bank Determination for Payment
    Transactions" table.
If you still want to use this payment method, please change back to the original classification after making necessary changes in T042I.
I believe this information would help you in resolving the reported issue.
    Best Regards,
    Vanessa Barth.

  • Error message when computer is booting up.....AppleNotifierSync.exe

I thought that it may have been just me. After reading other posts which state that others are getting the same message, I now feel not so all alone. I have a clue that I don't know what to do with...but here it is...
I just bought a new Ipod nano, and had to download the latest Itunes in order to sync my new pod. The error message in question just occurred after downloading the latest Itunes. No such message while using the older version.

You're starting X via inittab I assume? While booting, append 3 to the kernel line in grub (just the number 3, nothing else) and continue booting, this way it won't even attempt to start X. Then you can go through your configuration and log files, especially Xorg.0.log.

  • [Solved] Xorg Macbook Pro 4,1 Errors

Hello everyone. It's my first time here and I've come with issues that I was hoping to get some help with. After finally getting Arch onto my Macbook Pro 4,1 (Early 2008), I'm stumped with Xorg. For reference, after logging in the first time and setting up my wifi and the base Xorg configuration, I ran:
    sudo pacman -S nvidia
    sudo pacman -U /mnt/usb/lib32-nvidia-utils-331.20-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
Long story short, I rebooted as per the instructions then ran:
    startx
but received errors. Below is my xorg.conf followed by the Xorg.0.log file. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
