XSQL Equivalent of ASP Request.Form variable
In ASP, I can get form values from an HTML page using Request.Form. How do I do this in XSQL?
My intent is to read in the username and password from the login page, and then do authentication to see if they have the credentials to log in.
If you can please email me any help at [email protected] that'd be great. Thanks!

I set the page up exactly as you showed Steven, but I get this error instead:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
- <!-- <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="/dvd/dvd.xsl"?>
-->
- <database>
- <xsql-error action="xsql:query">
<statement>SELECT DISTINCT FIRSTNAME AS "FIRST-NAME", LASTNAME AS "LAST-NAME", EMAIL AS "EMAIL", USERNAME AS "USERNAME", ACCESSLEVEL AS "ACCESSLEVEL", USER_ID, PASSWORD FROM LKUP_USER WHERE USERNAME = ? AND PASSWORD = ? ORDER BY USER_ID</statement>
<message>ORA-01008: not all variables bound</message>
</xsql-error>
</database>I used the bind-params attribute in the manner that you described, and then loaded the XSQL page after submitting the username and password from my index.xhtml page via the action attribute on the form. Did I do something incorrectly?
Also, how does the SQL statement know which parameter to use for each '?'
i.e., I bound username and password in bind-params:
bind-params="username password"
how then does it know to use the correct value when I do this?
WHERE USERNAME = ? AND PASSWORD = ?
One more thing. I'm reading up on bind-params online and right now the only examples that are being shown are when the values are being passed through to the page via the URL, like so: http://www.oracle.com/xsql.xsql?username=Steve&password=Muench
For obvious reasons, I don't want to include the password string in the URL. If I set this up correctly, the bind-params attribute should allow me to just post the information from my index page's form correct?
Thanks again. This is invaluable.

Socket communication with HTTP server : how to send a form variable ?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to program a Socket application that calls a CGI programmed in ASP and sends a variable with some content via the POST HTTP method.
My problem is that I'm unable to retrieve my variable content in the CGI. I don't know what I'm doing wrong when sending my variable. Here are the main steps of my application
[Client side]
- Create an URL
- Open a connection
- Send header info with variable name and content via POST method
- Read server response
[Server side]
- Request the variable
- Store its content in a file
Here's the code of my class :
import java.net.*;
import java.io.*;
public class SocketTest{
public static void main(String args[]){
//create the URL
URL url = null;
String strURL = "http://192.168.1.11/htmleditor/cgi.asp";
try{
url = new URL(strURL);
catch(MalformedURLException exc){
System.out.println("Invalid URL : " + strURL);
//create a socket
Socket socket = null;
try{
int port = url.getPort();
if (port < 0){
port = 80;
socket = new Socket(url.getHost(), port);

//send request
out = socket.getOutputStream();
out.write(request.getBytes());
out.flush();
//read server response
in = socket.getInputStream();
int bufferSize = 1024;
byte responseBytes[] = new byte[bufferSize];
while ((bufferSize = in.read(responseBytes)) > 0){
System.out.print(new String(responseBytes, 0,bufferSize));

How to pass Applet form variables without showing it on top ?
I am running one applet with some form variables. After submit I want to pass those to .asp file to store into database.
If I use URL method then all are getting displayed on URL location of browser which I do not want. I want to pass many form variables to another .asp file, so it may not be good also.
What is the best way of doing it ? Need urgent help about it.Well If you create a POST request instead as a GET request the variables will not show up in the URL.
On tips how to do that you can either check out this thread:

Attachments on the Request Form
I know you can add file attachments in the initial customer request by selecting the Add and Review Order button and attaching a file on the Order Review form. But is there a way to have a file attachment button on the request form that will attach a file to the serivce request the same way?

1. Implement something like this on the file server:

I would change this script to post back the file name to the parent window as well as some naming/size validations, etc ...

I am trying to read the user Id from the submitted AD User request form( Catalogue AD User form. I need User Id,firstname and lastname inorder to prepopulate the common name as in this format - lastname,firstname (userid) for the user to be provisioned in Active Directory.
So after filling the AD User request form with User Id and Organization and submitting the request, I am trying to
prepopulate the common name in the process form before the provisioning.
The prepopulate adopter for the common name is configured to read the firstname, lastname and userid. firstname and
lastname variables are mapped to User definition and user Id is mapped to Process Data. In this setup I am not getting the
User Id value from process data, it is empty.
Is this a bug with OIM 11g R2 or I need to do it differently in order to read the user Id that user has entered in the
request form for populating the common name?

How to get USER_ID and IP_AddressWhy exactly do you need this data and what do you plan to do with it?
The data is not reliable and trustworthy. IP addresses can easily be spoofed (a few seconds if you know what to do and how to do it). Also, IP addresses are not static. Users also do not use the same network device to access the database - different devices will have different IP addresses.
The o/s user on the client is supplied by the client driver. This can also be spoofed.
The user can also use a virtualised device - which means that recording the IP and o/s user seen from the server side, is pretty much useless and meaningless.
So if this data is intended to be used for auditing for example - it would be pretty suspect data to use for that purpose. -
How to pass a form variable from page to page
I have a series of 4 forms on 4 pages that update a database.
A variable from one of the forms (doesn't matter which one, if it's
easier one way over another, let's go that way) is passed to the
last page, where a PayPal button will appear based on the value of
the form variable. I am using ASP javascript and an Access
database.

Either store the variable in a hidden field in the
intermediate forms,
or use a session variable.

Oracle equivalent to SQL Server Table Variables ?
Does Oracle have anything equivalent to SQL Server table variables, that can be used in the JOIN clause of a select statement ?
What I want to do is execute a query to retrieve a two-column result, into some form of temporary storage (a collection ?), and then re-use that common data in many other queries inside a PL/SQL block. I could use temporary tables, but I'd like to avoid having to create new tables in the database, if possible. If I was doing this in SQL Server, I could use a table variable to do this, but is there anything similar in Oracle ? SQL Server example:
use Northwind
DECLARE @myVar TABLE(CustomerID nchar(5), CompanyName nvarchar(40))
INSERT INTO @myVar(CustomerID, CompanyName)
select CustomerID, CompanyName
from Customers
--Join the variable onto a table in the database
SELECT *
FROM @myVar mv join Customers
on mv.CompanyName = Customers.CompanyName
The closest I've found in Oracle is to use CREATE TYPE to create new types in the database, and use TABLE and CAST to convert the collection to a table, as shown below. I can't see anyway without creating new types in the database.
CREATE TYPE IDMap_obj AS Object(OldID number(15), NewID number(15));
CREATE TYPE IDMap_TAB IS TABLE OF IDMap_obj;
DECLARE
v_Count Number(10) := 0;
--Initialize empty collection
SourceIDMap IDMap_TAB := IDMap_TAB();
BEGIN
--Populate our SourceIDMap variable (dummy select statement for now).
FOR cur_row IN (select ID As OldID, ID + 10000000 As NewID From SomeTable) LOOP
SourceIDMap.extend;
SourceIDMap(SourceIDMap.Last) := IDMap_obj(cur_row.OldId, cur_row.NewId);
END LOOP;
--Print out contents of collection
FOR cur_row IN 1 .. SourceIDMap.Count LOOP
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line(SourceIDMap(cur_row).OldId || ' ' || SourceIDMap(cur_row).NewId);
END LOOP;
--OK, can we now use our collection in a JOIN statement ?
SELECT COUNT(SM.NewID)
INTO v_Count
FROM SomeTable ST JOIN
TABLE(CAST(SourceIDMap As IDMap_TAB)) SM
ON ST.ID = SM.OldID;
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line(' ' );
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('v_Count is ' || v_Count);
END;Hi, got this from our plsql guys:
The term "table function" is a bit confusing here. In Oracle-speak, it means a function that can be used in the from list of a select statement thus:
select * from Table(My_Table_Function()),..
where...
The function's return type must be a collection that SQL understands. So for the interesting case -- mimicking a function with more than one column -- this would be a nested table of ADTs where both the ADT and the nested table are defined at schema level. PL/SQL -- by virtue of some clever footwork -- allows you to declare the type as a nested table of records where both these types are declared in a package spec. This alternative is generally preferred, especially because the nested table can be of Some_Table%rowtype (or Some_Cursor%rowtype if you prefer).
As I understand it from our man on the ANSI committee, our use terminology follows the standard.
The construct below seems to be a bit different (though there are similarities) because it appears from your code sample that it's usable only within procedural code. And the object from which you select is a variable rather than a function.
So, after that preamble... the answer would be:
No, we don't have any constructs to let you "declare" something that looks like a regular schema-level table as a PL/SQL variable -- and then use (static) SQL on it just as if it were a schema-level table.
But yes, you can use PL/SQL's pipelined table function to achieve much of the same effect.
Look at the attached Table_Function.sql.
It shows that you can populate a collection of records using ordinary PL/SQL code. You can't use SQL for insert, update, or delete on such a collection. I see that SQL Server lets you do
insert into Program_Variable_Table select... from Schema_Level_Table
The PL/SQL equivalent would be
select...
bulk collect into Program_Variable_Collection
from Schema_Level_Table
The attached shows that once you have populated your collection, then you can then query it with regular SQL -- both from inside PL/SQL code and from naked SQL.
and the code is here

How do I do that?If all documents are going to the "/Docs" folder, then I wouldn't include it in the inserted data as you can just add it dynamically where needed. If you do want to include it and it's not part of the posted form data, then just concatenate it (&) prior to inserting into the table.

Add form variable as a URL?
I'm trying to build a page that inserts a record in a SQL
database, that goes to a success page when the insert is successful
so that the user can see the unique ID created from information
entered back on the first page.
I need to modify this line on the page with a request form.
This line is from the Insert Record function created by DW.
var MM_editRedirectUrl = "MediaRequestComplete.asp?FN=xxx";
So that the xxx is replaced with the value that a javascript
function on the page would get from "form1.filename.value".
This either isn't possible or I just can't fugure out the
right syntax.
If you know how to do this, or can say for sure that it can't
be done, please let me know?
TIA
PeterHif - in your form declaration - you change your method to GET from POST, it will append the form data onto the URL string instead of putting it in the request header. For instance, if you have a form with an input called THE_INPUT, and you submit to a servlet (or script of some kind or whatever) when the value of that text box is "foo", the URL will be:
http://www.yourdomain.com/yourservlet?THE_INPUT=foo
But, if you use the POST method, the URL will just be:
http://www.yourdomain.com/yourservlet
Is that what you meant? -
Equivalent Sql function for Forms NAME_IN() built in
Please let me know, is there any equivalent Sql function equivalent to Forms Name_in() built in. Thanks.
What would such a function do in pure SQL? Or are you asking if you can refer to Forms variables in SQL that you issue from Forms?
The answer to the first question I will delay until you define what it is that you want to do. The answer to the second question is that there is no way to do that. The database has no way of knowing how to resolve references to variables defined in client side PLSQL. -

Form on coldfusion page losing form variables
OK, I am having a very strange problem. Several applications
on our
production web servers have started manifesting the same
symptom. On
the login page, you have a couple of fields for account name
and
password. When you hit submit the action page says it can't
find the
form variables. These are on a cluster. If you go to the
servers
individually, then everything works as it should. Our network
people
claim that we are not shifting from one server to the other.
Has anyone
else ever seen this behavior before on a single
server?These are stand-alone servers that being load-balanced. They
are supposed to stuck on the same server until the session ends. If
we go to the individual servers and run the applications, it works.
Otherwise, it fails randomly.

You did not write if you are using any cluster features of
ColdFusion, but I assume you are using as stand-alone configured
ColdFusion servers, and through LoadBalancer configuration (sticky
cookie) you are making sure that users are always sent back to the
same server.
I would not expect the problem you have to be caused by such
a load balancer configuration, but companies who implement load
balancers often also use Proxy-servers, and now well they can mess
up a lot of things with caching.
(even Dan's problem could be caused by a proxy server: first
request to verify if the requested page still has the same date,
and then the request is actually sent to the server itself for
execution).
A quick way to verify if a proxy is messing with you is to
attach any URL parameter: "www.mysite.com/index.cfm" may be cached,
but "www.mysite.com/index.cfm?user=12345" should not be served from
the cache and instead get sent to an actual web-server to return a
customized response.

Here we don't have any log traces to be checked for, and we have verified the back end record resultset count which is same, irrelevant of the warning message being shown.
These messages are displayed only at two places:
1) The search navigation page, where all the searched record results are displayed and we continue further for creation of vendor workflow.
2) When the workflow of vendor creation is completed, along with the "Workflow has been completed" success message, this warning message is also shown.
I want to know, from where these messages are being populated and how to suppress these messages.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks in advance!

After we click on "continue with create/edit" button, after few details have been entered, the work flow completes.
There are we are getting these error message as highlighted above.
Let me know if any info from my end would help in getting the root cause.
