Y! Mail on Mac v iPhone

Have recently reconfigured my iPhone so that it takes advantage of Yahoo! push email. I also use POP to collect email from Yahoo! on my Mac (using Mail). The configuration on my Mac is the one I have always used with SSL passwords etc. I notice that on the iPhone the security does not appear to be configurable.
Suddenly I am having problems on the Mac downloading / sending mails.
Does anyone know how to make the Mac and iPhone settings the same so that it works all the time (assuming this is the problem)??!

I have got around this problem by changing from POP email to IMAP.   The email stays on the server so both your iPhone and MBP will just access the mail on the server so will always show the same.   A quick search on Google shows that you can use IMAP with Hotmail.
The only down side (apart from it using more space on the server) is that you cannot read your emails off line.   For me this is not a problem.

usually it an effortless process, you just need to set up your accounts on both. Exchange and imap will do the work for you, pop account may require some additional settings changes on mac. Setting that are necessary to change with pop account can be found here.

  • Notes not mirroring in Mail on Mac and iPhone

    Hi,
I've had a problem with accessing/viewing/syncing Notes created on my iPhone, both viewing and syncing on my mac in Mail.
Every time I click on a note in Mail on my mac, I get a 'loading' graphic and spinning ball, but no note appears. Ever. Not all the notes on my iPhone are in Mail on my mac either, 6 notes on my Phone, 4 show on my Mail. They are now set to sync through MobileMe, having synced manually before (again, unsuccessfully) through iTunes.
I presently cannot create any new Notes in Mail either. To Do's, yes. Notes, no.
I don't have my me.com email account set up through my mac Mail - is this contributing to the problem? I've read that true syncing can only be achieved via an IMAP account, but I though MobileMe handled that anyway. I only have my Hotmail POP account coming through Mail on the mac at present. I have today tried to create an account for my me.com account on Mail on my mac, but after 5 minutes of trying to contact the server, it refused to confirm and verify my password for some reason. This is happening every time. I can access my MobileMe account no problem via the internet, so no problem with the account name, password, etc.
Could anyone please shed some light on where things are going wrong?
    Thanks.

    UPDATE:
Phoned Apple helpline, went through creating new prefs, etc. Still didn't work.
Passed onto specialist, by process of elimination, found that certain fonts were needed - Suitcase overwriting FontBook prefs, so MarkerFelt font not being switched on. Notes are now working!!!!

  • How can I get my mail app to sync from my mac to iPhone, I don't have the 'info' option in iTunes?

How can i get my mail app to sync from my mac to iphone? i dont have the 'info' option in itunes!
I have created files within the mail app and want them to be the same on my mac and iphone.

You need a mail server that supports this then. Hotmail premium I believe does, but the free version does not. Gmail supports it, and any ISP that offers IMAP supports this capability. iCloud definitely supports it, so if you create a free iCloud email account and switch your primary email to it you would have this capability.

  • Can the Mail applications on Mac and iPhone talk to each other?

I have synced my Gmail account to the Mail application on my MacBook Pro. During the day, I am out and about receiving, reading, and deleting emails on my iPhone, and when I get home and turn on the computer, I see all of those messages still there in my inbox, unread. Is there a way for the mac Mail app and the iPhone mail app to talk so that messages that are read in one place show up as read in the other place?

I could have this thread moved to the iPhone forum. The iPhone gurus hang out there... let me know if you want to switch and I will ask a moderator to transfer the thread. I don't want to give you the wrong information.
You could try searching this forum also. http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1144

  • I can't access my mail on my mac or iPhone.

On both my mac and iPhone the mail program keeps asking for my password, saying:
The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password
My password has not changed. When I enter it into the box, it just keeps repeating the message.
    Help?

I just switched to iCloud today from MobileMe and had a similar problem. At first, I was able to log into my email at mobileme/move and then it crashed and rejected my password when I tried to log in again. I talked to an Apple rep who advised me to go to appleid.apple.com and change my password. Type in your email address in the "Apple ID" box and follow the commands to change the password. If you still have issues, call Apple at 1-800-692-7753. You'll have to go through quite a few questions with the automated guy (serial number of your computer, etc.). If your computer isn't under the Apple Care warranty and he suggests you have to pay a one-time fee, ignore that and let him connect you to an agent. They aren't charging for technical questions related to iCloud.

  • Mail in Mac OS X vs. Mail app. in iPhone

Do I have the option the have a :
    - had to junk folder
    - had signature
    - use rules
    in iPhone mail app?
if not, does any application can give that flexibility? I would like a mail application on my iPhone where i have all the feature and flexibilty I have with Maill on Mac OS X. Any suggestion?
    Thank you,

There is a signature function with the iPhone's Mail client, but one signature available only and the signature is in plain text along with all other text when composing a message since the iPhone's Mail client supports composing in plain text only.
The iPhone's Mail client does not include a junk mail filter. See my reply about the same in this thread.

No application can change the iPhone's OS or applications included with the OS.

The iPhone has computer functions but is not a computer and does not include a full featured email client as is available on a computer.

  • Mail on Mac Pro not downloading mail sent from iPhone

    Hi.
I have a gmail account set up on my Mac Pro and have just added the same account to my 3G iPhone. It all works fine except any mail I send from the iPhone doesn't appear on the Mac Pro. In Safari everything shows up on gmail. A copy of the mail sent from the iPhone even ends up in the sent mail folder, but nothing on the Mac Pro.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • How sync mail accounts between Mac and iPhone!!

    Hi,
May a trivial and stupid question but never found an answer!
How easily sync mail account information (preferences of each mail account) between mac's (Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro) and iPhone?
Sorry to say that but it's so easy in Windows!! Just check the option box in itunes!!
For now, I use iCloud, define to sync mail and connected with same account on all my mac and iPhone ... nothing happened!
Oh yes, sorry, I have three accounts out of 13 who appear!!! But WHY?
I red somewhere that the account information (password) must be saved in keychain ... ok ... but how do I change that for all account?
I tried to remove one and recreate ... no success ... doesn't appear.
Why is it so complicated to have that working as the Mac is so user-friendly?
I also try a search on Apple site ... no explanation!
Some one with a clear and simple "How To" to share?
    MANY THANKS!
    Pierre

  • Mac mail no syncing with iphone mail

When reading emails through my iphone 6 plus mail, the emails still show as unread when opening up mac mail.
Mac Book Pro 15'' Retina Display
    Yosemite 10.10.1

Using POP, the mail client generally does not inform the server when the user has read each message.
If 1and1 offers IMAP access (as it appears from its website it does), I suggest switching to IMAP access if you require this sort of email synchronization between devices. The downside of IMAP is that each email message continues to reside on the server until youexplicitly delete it or move it to a local folder on your Mac.
Be careful to move/copy your mail out of the POP inbox before switching your access to IMAP (which is done by deleting the account from your devices and re-adding it as an IMAP account). If you do not, you will probably lose messages you care about.

  • Synching mail sent on my iphone through my .mac account

mail sent on my iphone doesn't seem to be appearing on my g4 powerbook mail. Is it a synch setting on the iphone or a preference i have to set on my powerbook or mail settings?

If you are accessing your .Mac account as a .Mac type account or IMAP account with the Mail application on your Mac, at the Mail.app menu bar go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for your .Mac account preferences, select "Store sent messages on the server".
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail.
    Select your .Mac account.
    Select the Advanced button.
Under Mailbox Behaviors, select Sent Mailbox.
Make sure Sent Messages is selected below "On the Server".

  • Apple Mail account missing in Mac and iphone

Last Sunday, one of my mail accounts disappeared in apple mac.
This morning, the same mail account disappeared in iphone.
I did not delete any account.
What's more strange is that the account seems to exist since I cannot add a new account using the same setting/information. It says the same account already exists
I have exactly the same mail settings on mac, iphone and iPad. Hopefully my ipad won't get screwed up.

I just had an account vanish on my apple mail. I was able to re-enter it though.

  • Synch mail messages between Mac and Iphone...

I have a Mac Book Pro (and use Mail) and an Iphone 4. I had expected my mail box to synch such that all the mails I sent on Iphone would appear as sent items on my Mac and vice versa. This doesnt seem to be happening. What am i doing wrong please? Or is this not possible?

It is not possible to "sync" like with music or photos. You need to setup your email account on your iPhone.

  • Import a new mail account from mac to iPhone

    Hello folks,
I have a macbook pro and an iPhone 4. The first time I connected my iPhone to the macbook it imported all the mail accounts, with all the settings and so on. Now, I create a new email account on my macbook and I cannot figure out how to import this new mail account on the iPhone. Could you help me please?
    Thanks

Oh no So if I want this account on my iPhone I have to create it directly from iPhone
    Correct.
You create the account in mail on your Mac & on your phone. Since it's an exchange account, they will both be kept in sync. When you select sync mail accounts in iTunes, it's only the account settings that are synced, no actual messages are synced at all. You normally only do this one to transfer the account settings to your phone.
