Y setting kernel parameters in linux and not in windows

Hi Can any one please help me out...
While installing oracle on linux we are setting some kernel parameters But when installing in windows are we setting any kernel parameters...We are not setting any parameters...can any one please explain why r we setting kernel parameters and what is the use of those parameters and why are we not setting any parameters in windows.

probably because linux != windows
anyway, there are still some recommendation you can follow, for example if you want to use more than 2Gb of memory in win32

  • How open a file and not showing window?

    I write a script to do some work automatic,
    for Indesign script, its application open method could open a file and not showing window,
    the open method has a parameter [ShowingWindow] (if true, show the document window).
    That is good a feature for me.
    But with Illustrator, the application open method hasn't the same feature.
    Open
    (files as String,
    [documentColorSpace as AiDocumentColorSpace],
    [options as Object])
    and for OpenOptions properties, there is not useful information for me.
    Is there any other methods could do that?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank for your reply.

    I finally had some time to find the actual syntax for tuning process.max-msq-qbytes and process.max-msg-messages. prctl will change those paramaters for an existing process.
    As a proof of concept I changed process.max-msg-messages to a 64k. process 2221 is my shell.
    prctl -n process.max-msg-messages  -r -v 64k 2221
    bash-3.00# prctl 2221
    process: 2221: -csh
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT
    process.max-port-events
            privileged      65.5K       -   deny                                 -
            system          2.15G     max   deny                                 -
    process.max-msg-messages
            privileged      64.0K       -   deny                                 -
            system          4.29G     max   deny                                 -
    process.max-msg-qbytes
            privileged      64.0KB      -   deny                                 -
            system          4.00GB    max   deny                                 -And now to make this persist across reboots...
    So long as I'm experimenting, I'll use projadd and add a new project which just includes me and not the rest of the users in the group staff.
    bash-3.00# projadd -p 115 -U testuser \
    -K "process.max-msg-messages=(priv,64K,deny)" \
    -K "process.max-msg-qbytes=(priv,64K,deny)" \
    user.me This creates the following /etc/project:
    (note the last line is all on one line in the real file minus the \.)
    placer% cat /etc/project
    system:0::::
    user.root:1::::
    noproject:2::::
    default:3::::
    group.staff:10::::
    user.me:115::testme::\
    process.max-msg-messages=(priv,64000,deny);process.max-msg-qbytes=(priv,65536,deny)After a reboot I checked the values by loging in under my user and running prctl.
    placer% prctl $$
    process: 419: -csh
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT

    ...Solaris 10 has different tunables and default values from 8 and 9. It's default tunables should be good for most applications per a given system's hardware. There are some great blog articles, and discussions on opensolaris.org and blogs.sun.com on tuning that explain the intent of tuning and why we shouldn't have to tune.

  • Reg key to set PDF opening in Reader and not the web browser

    Is there a reg key which would apply to all users/computer (not just current user, Hkey_user) to set a variable that would open PDF's in the actual Adobe Reader program and not in a web browser.
    I only find references to reg key's that apply to the current users logged in, but unfortunately I work in an education facility and we use Dynamic user id's which creates a new user each time in windows, and then removes the profile on logout
    Thanks in advance,

    Would you suggest downloading the Adobe Customization Wizard and creating an MST file to distribute the app?  If so, do you have documentation on where to change this setting?

  • c:set works in one page and not another.. rediculous problem

    Hi all,
    im having one hell of a strange problem..
    i have this bit of code on one page..
    profile_body.jsp
    <jsp:useBean id="user" scope="request" beanName="com.insaini.publogs.business.UserBean" type="com.insaini.publogs.business.ProfileInterface" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="user" property="user" value="<%=request.getRemoteUser()%>" />
    <c:set value="${user.profile}" var="profile" />and i have this in my editProfile_body.jsp
    <jsp:useBean id="location" scope="request" beanName="com.insaini.publogs.business.LocationBean" type="com.insaini.publogs.struts.listeners.LocationListener" />
    <jsp:useBean id="org" scope="request" beanName="com.insaini.publogs.business.OrganizationBean" type="com.insaini.publogs.struts.listeners.OrganizationListener" />
    <jsp:useBean id="user" scope="request" beanName="com.insaini.publogs.business.UserBean" type="com.insaini.publogs.business.ProfileInterface" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="user" property="user" value="<%=request.getRemoteUser()%>" />
    <c:set value="${user.profile}" var="profile" />the profile_body.jsp loads fine.. but the editProfile_body.jsp does not load at all and its throwing this error..
    An error occurred at line: 17 in the jsp file: /jsp/includes/editProfile_body.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    org.apache cannot be resolved or is not a field
    where line 17 points to
    <jsp:setProperty name="user" property="user" value="<%=request.getRemoteUser()%>" />
    this makes absolutely no sense since this exact same line works in the profile_body.jsp..
    any ideas?

    I think the problem is that you have an object in scope that has the name "org". Then, somewhere in the Java Code generated by the offending jsp:setProperty tag, there is a line that looks like:
    xxx = org.apache...
    What ends up happening is Java is looking in the object you have named org for a public (or otherwise visible) member named apache, and not finding it.
    This is a naming conflict, and gets resolved by renaming the <jsp:useBean id="org" object to something else (preferrably something other name org, com, net, or any other package name your system might have).

  • How do I set up my Airport Express and not interrupt my TIme Capsule

    I have ATT UVerse recently installed and have my Time Capsule Router Behind their installed router. I recently purchased Airport Extreme and want to install it as well so I can connect an older Version of a Sony PS3 which doesn't have bluetooth capability via rj45 since the time capsule is no where close to my PS3. Is there a way to install this Airport Express and not mess up the settings of the Time Capsule?

    Hello hbwilli. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    Yes. You will want to configure the new 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) as a ProxySTA. In this configuration, the AXn will join the wireless network created by the Time Capsule and share Internet access through its Ethernet port to the PS3.
    To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)

  • CI/DB under Linux and AS under Windows - Possible?

    Hello all,
    I have an ECC6 running on Linux/Oracle.
    For some interface reason I need my production to communicate to a MS SQL Server Database - we found out that the best solution was to install a new Application Server under Windows.
    Is it feasable? If yes what are the constraints or does anyone can give me the procedure.
    Thanks for your time and your help.
    Regards,
    Mel

    hi melchior,
    Why not installing MS SQL on Windows Server and connect it to your SAP system without have to install SAP system on this Windows host ?
    It's possible to install SAP system on heterogent system. For UNIX/Linux and Windows system, you need to manage SAMBA service.

  • How can I close 'current' window and not all windows?

    How can I close the current window (only) and not all or none?
    This function works well with MS Explorer.
    Not a problem, just a desired function.

    Hi JLCluster,
    If you just click the small x in the tab you are currently viewing, it will close only that tab. I think you are clicking the x in upper right hand corner of the screen which closes all open tabs as you described.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Weblogic on Linux and LiveCycle on Windows??

    Hello!
    I have the feeling I'm going to ask a terribly stupid question... whatever, here it goes...
    A client has Weblogic running on Linux and would like to install LiveCycle on Windows using this Weblogic as application server.
    Possible at all?
    Thank you for any ideas - please bear with me in this one.
    Marcos

    Yes, it is possible to install LiveCycle on Windows but targetting Linux.

  • Running a Java App like a service in linux and not closing with window

    I know its not really a question i should ask you but thought you might have a quick answer for me, I have trying to running a small java application on one of the servers. I want it to run almost like a service, what i mean is i dont want the application to end when the terminal session is ended. So i thought i should put an entry into the /etc/rc.local file as follows (Final Line):
    cd /home/bluepoint/Teamselect_ServerApp_v1.0/bin/
    java Server
    #!/bin/sh
    # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
    # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
    # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.
    touch /var/lock/subsys/local
    /home/bluepoint/kmyfirewall.sh
    su - bluepoint "/usr/local/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28/bin/startup.sh"
    cd /home/bluepoint/startme.sh
    As you will see it call a shell script which contains only the following lines (or see attached):cd /home/bluepoint/Teamselect_ServerApp_v1.0/bin/
    java Server
    but nothing happens when i restart the server. The DB, sendmail, tomcat etc start fine but not my app.
    The application works fine if i start it in a terminal window so i know it can run.
    Any ideas what im doing wrong??
    Kind Regards

    It's probably not happening because you missed the -c from the su command. However this isn't the correct approach to daemon processes on linux (which is what you're after).
    What you need to do is to place a script in the /etc/init.d directory. This script should take a single argument and start the daemon if the argument is "start", and stop it if "stop". Check out the scripts already in there to see how it's done.
    Then go to System Settings/Server settings/Services and enable the new service for the normal run level.

  • Subform Set visible in Design View and not PDF preview

    I have created a form and used several subform sets, all of the sets and subforms within it are set to visible, but when I look at the PDF preview and when I upload the form into my internal system some of the sections are missing. I am not sure what is wrong, can someone please help!?

    A subformset is used when you have numerous different subforms that can be laid down but the imbound data stream will determine which subform to lay down. For exmple if you have a form that has a a different verbiage based on state then you can have all of the subforms defined that could possibly go there then when the data is merged the state is derived and only the one for that state is used.
    Hope that helps

  • Shell Scripting ( Script run on some versions of Linux and not on others )

    I have a scrip which is made for Linux OS to calculate the size of the total space
    and the used of this total space and the free space of it
    this is the script I'm talking about
    a=0
    b=0
    c=0
    df -k|grep -v Mounted|awk '{print $2" "$3" "$4}'|{ while read TOTAL USED AVAIL
    do
    a=$(expr "$a" + "$TOTAL")
    b=$(expr "$b" + "$USED")
    c=$(expr "$c" + "$AVAIL")
    done
    echo ""
    echo "Total Disk Space:"`expr "$a" / 1024 / 1024`"GB"
    echo ""
    echo "Total Disk Used: "`expr "$b" / 1024 / 1024`"GB"
    echo ""
    echo "Total Disk Free: "`expr "$c" / 1024 / 1024`"GB"
    and this is part of the error I get
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument
    expr: non-numeric argument

    Total Disk Space:GB
    expr: non-numeric argument

    Total Disk Free: GB
    and this is the output if it ran successfully
    Total Disk Space:130GB
    Total Disk Used: 5GB
    Total Disk Free: 118GB
    So I need to know what do you think the problem ?
    Is it related to the OS version & if so how this could be and how can I check the Linux OS version ?
    Thanks & best regards :)

    expr: non-numeric argumentYour problem might be the df command. The expr is not able to read the data. Try using "*df -Pk*". The -P argument uses the posix format of the df command to prevent the splitting of long lines.
    For instance:
    $ df -k|grep -v Mounted|awk '{print $2" "$3" "$4}'
    23630560 7165280 77%
    101086 43515 52352
    2029568 0 2029568
    $ df -Pk|grep -v Mounted|awk '{print $2" "$3" "$4}'
    32471920 23630564 7165276
    101086 43515 52352
    2029568 0 2029568
    As you can see from above example, -P is necessary under Enterprise Linux.Please see the forum faq and edit your posting to include { c o d e } delimiters when posting code.
