Yaourt, expected?

Hello,
I have been using AUR for more important packages that I feel should be optimized and compiled on my system (firefox-pgo, mplayer, etc.), but I've been looking for an easier way to check the AUR packages (that I already have installed) for updates, and automagically download, makepkg, and update them. I've installed yaourt in hopes that it could take care of this for me..
However, I have run into (percieved?) issues. Running 'yaourt -Sybu - -aur' gives me:
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
archlinuxfr is up to date
==> Packages to build from sources:
mplayer 29411-3
Proceed with compilation and installation ? [Y/n]y
Source Targets:  mplayer live-media
Proceed with upgrade?  [Y/n] y
==> Building mplayer from sources
mplayer was not found on abs repos.archlinux.org
==> Building live-media from sources
live-media was not found on abs repos.archlinux.org
I don't think that yaourt is even looking in the AUR, and also why is this extra live-media dep existing now, as I don't see it being a dependency on AUR for mplayer..?
Please advise.

I have written a different patch which does not require ABS to be installed and uses the new WebSVN, this is more similar to the current yaourt mechanism

  • [SOLVED] yaourt -Syua wants to update a package which hasn't changed

    I built a modest package, vi-vim-symlink, tested it extensively with pacman, and then uploaded it to AUR.
    Recently some user reported that every time he runs yaourt, the package wants to be reinstalled.  I installed yaourt and confirmed this behavior:
    gecko:~~$ yaourt -Syua

    Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?  The package is super simple and only creates a couple of symlinks, uninstalling vi, if necessary.

    HalosGhost wrote:For starters, that pkgdesc is huge for no reason at all. Also, does that package actually work? Those symlinks don't look valid at all.
    The package definitely works (I'm using it on several machines).  The pkgdesc is lengthy because it's kind of an odd package, so I tried to explain the reason for it's existence. (This came after a lengthy forum discussion on the issue of most linux users expecting /usr/bin/vi and /usr/bin/view to actually be vim, and not Bill Joy vi.)  If I were just packaging bottle.py or something like this my pkgdesc would be short.
    Do you see anything which is an actual violation of the Arch Packaging Standards?
    I'm still not entirely sure what this means or how this happened.
    Looks like the source tarball was repackaged without having been sync'd
    AUR wouldn't let me upload the package without a url; first I added a random url (one of my servers), then changed my mind and used the vim url -- this must have been when things got out of whack.

  • [SOLVED]How to get colorful output when pipe yaourt's STDIO to less?

    Hello, second post to NC.
    My question is how to get a piped(e.g. pipe yaourt's STDOUT to less) program's colorful output on screen without such option like '--color=always'.
    Before post this, I've configured less's default behaviour in "~/.zshrc" with following
    less() {
    env LESS=R less "$@"
    And When I run:
    $ dmesg --color=always | less
    Everything works fine(I get good, colorful output), but when I run this:
    $ yaourt -Qe --date | less
    Seems that I can only get grey output on terminal emulator (without 'less' I get colorful output).
    Does anyone has idea about getting yaourt's colorful output with 'less' ?
    Last edited by izmntuk (2014-06-08 00:15:15)

    Thanks for reply and after serveral mintues googling & getting some help from IRC:
    It seems that there're some utilities that do not provide such a option like 'color=always', what we need to do is trick these utilities into thinking their's STDIO is to a tty, not a pipe.
    1. stdoutisatty way (aur/stdoutisatty-git is needed) from [0]:
    $ stdoutisatty yaourt -Qe --date | less
    2. socat way (extra/socat is needed, sometimes doesn't work fine) from [1]:
    $ socat EXEC:"yaourt -Qe --date",pty STDIO | less
    3. script way (sometimes doesn't work fine) from [2]:
    $ script -fqc 'yaourt -Qe --date' | less
    4. unbuffer way (extra/expect is needed) from [3]:
    $ unbuffer yaourt -Qe --date | less
    5. zpty way (extra/zsh is needed) slightly modified from [4]:
    zmodload zsh/zpty
    autoload colors && colors
    pty() {
    local VERSION=0.2
    if [[ -t 0 && $# -ne 0 && ${1} != '--help' ]];then
    zpty pty-${UID} ${1+"$@"}
    ## when piping function pty to a pager, it may be a good idea to disable ^C *in this function*. assume that you're going to run this command: pty ls -alRi --color | less
    ## and now you enter a pager, and you press the End key by accident, and the pager seems stuck, and to get unstuck you pressed ^C, then the entire function interrupted. so to avoid the interrupt:
    if [[ ! -t 1 ]];then
    setopt local_traps
    trap '' INT
    zpty -r pty-${UID}
    else
    zpty -r pty-${UID}

  • [Solved] Yaourt + bash problem?

    Hello.
    For couple of weeks I am occasionally seeing a strange problem.
    When I use Yaourt I get some issues that I suspect might be caused by some bash configuration problem.
    Here is the output:
    $ yaourt -Syua

    I checked the line of code and it reads:
    "echo -e $(eval_gettext 'You are not allowed to launch $command with sudo\nPlease enter root password') 1>&2"
    So obviously, the "\n" direction is not respected here. I tried to reproduce this problem in my bash prompt, but there everything seems to work as expected.
    $ echo -e "aaaa\nbbbb"
    aaaa
    bbbb
    After upgrade to the latest Yaourt version (0.9.5.2-1) this is gone and Yaourt only promps like this:
    $ yaourt -S yaourt
    Password:
    But there is second problem:
    /usr/bin/yaourt: eval: line 24: syntax error near unexpected token `required'
    /usr/bin/yaourt: eval: line 24: `echo (required by $requiredbypkg)'
    Which is still persistent and was not solved by version upgrade. I have feeling in the gut, that it might have the same culprit.
    I also have second Archlinux box (notebook) with installation that is very similar to this one. I have cloned it, but removed some packages. Most of the system is the same. This problem is not present there and Yaourt works fine.
    I know that Yaourt is not officially supported and there are other frontends, but I prefer Yaourt.
    Does anyone have idea what might be the problem?
    Thanks.

    With regard to the sudo problem:  sudo recently underwent an upgrade that featured a rewriting of its plugins, including /etc/sudoers; I noticed the same issues for a couple days.  Add your user to the "wheel" group again, and it should clear things up.

  • Pacman & yaourt/packer library problems? (specific: amarok and x265)

    (Sorry for the [RET])
    Hello,
    First the error:
    amarok: error while loading shared libraries: libx265.so.21: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    There is /usr/lib/libx265.so, so.1.1 and so.25
    pkgfile says that the owner is extra/x265.
    I went to ARM and download the package x265 from July (who has libx265.so.21) and then, the error is related to qdbus.
    I have completely upgraded everything (Syyu).
    If I go to other computer, I can see how amarok is working with libx265.so.21 (but it is true that has no the latest packages, just some of them like amarok).
    Question a) (question focused just in repairing amarok)
    How to solve this?
    - NOTE: Amarok is repaired (needed to compile from sources). But the question below is still open.
    Question b) (trying to understand the problem)
    It is possible that because I built ffmpeg-full (AUR) and it compiled many libraries, has something unsync with pacman and now pacman says: "hey, everything is up to date", but amarok complains, and it does not matter that I have rebuilt amarok and x265 but the problem persists?. I see (-Si) that amarok depends on ffmpeg.
    I would like to know how can I combine multiple libraries at the same time (like x265.so.21 and x265.so.25) but not manually (downloading, moving packages), like: pacman "--parallel-deps" amarok. And everything is done (maybe this is too easy).

    Thank you for your ideas:
    a) Amarok is in the latest build (2.0.8-3) (I did -Syyu to be sure when the problems started). -> Maybe is in this point where the maintainer of Amarok forgot/got busy.
    b) I have another PC with the same build version and different mirrors.
    Let's suppose the next:
    - State 0: I build from sources ffmpeg, that it builds x265 too. I got ffmpeg v2 and x265 v2 (let's suppose).
    - State 1: I do (-Syyu) and install from binaries amarok -> it needs ffmpeg and x265, but It finds in the system (although it a newer version than the amarok dependency). It installs correctly. I run it and I get problems because amarok (v5 for example) depends upon ffmpeg v1 and x265 v1.
    I think I get what you mean here. You build the source using a PKGBUILD, right? Now, as we are assuming things, let's assume that we are working with the actual archlinux repositories. If there are dependency conflicts in the repositories, this is something to report to the bugtracker as all software in there should work. So, amarok needing ffmpeg v1 while only v2 is in the repository is something that the maintainer needs to look into.
    In short: What you describe is not supposed to happen in the actual arch repositories.
    Now, if we add in the AUR things become different. With the aur we can get these rather annoying dependency conflicts. The usual way to resolve these is (using your example) to make a seperate package for ffmpeg and x265 version 1 (conveniently named ffmpeg1 and x265_1 for example). The next step is then to make amarok depend on these 2 packages. As mentioned before, for the official repos you can take a look at how things are done with python v3 and python v2. In the AUR there are also numerous examples of older software, like gcc.
    Zzipo wrote:I have seen previous times that when I do yaourt ----> It can fetch another package at the same time (like x265.so.21) and  x265.so.25 with pacman. I was just expecting some sort of good approach to deal with this problem.
    I assume that this means that they used the trick I just described. Also, the sentence makes me think that you maybe lack a bit of understanding about the workings of the AUR and the build process in general. Did you read the wiki pages about the AUR and makepkg before trying to use the AUR?

  • Packer - New bash aur+pacman wrapper (replaces poorly written yaourt)

    There are some people who wish to keep aur and pacman separate. For those people there is aurget and slurpy.
    There are others who wish to integrate them  for certain tasks like myself. For those people there really is only yaourt which is excruciatingly slow and in many ways bloated. For instance, why would you need to use yaourt -R package ever? All that happens when you do that is it calls pacman. What a joke.
    I contend that an aur+pacman wrapper only need to perform 4 major functions.
    1) Search pacman and aur at the same time with one query (-Ss)
    2) Get info from packages in the repository (-Si)
    3) Install packages from either (especially be able to handle the dependencies of aur packages which can sometimes have other dependencies on aur which themselves might have dependencies on aur, etc.) (-S)
    4) Update packages at the same time (again with an interest of handling aur packages which might have new dependencies in newer versions and such) (-Su)
    If you agree with this or just are curious and want to test my program, please download the script from my github and leave feedback. This is a pretty early release (just began working on it 3 days ago), but all four of those functionalities are implemented. There will be cosmetic changes for sure to come and please comment on what you think those should be or any other bugs or problems you might have had.

    EDIT:
    I have forked pacdiffviewer from yaourt and modified it to work as a stand alone program due to many people saying they coud not switch from yaourt because it has pacdiffviewer. To avoid path conflicts, I have named it pacdiff.

    keenerd wrote:This is fast. And fails even faster if you don't have sudo set up.  The one nice thing about yaourt is that if will check if you can sudo pacman, otherwise it asks for your root password.  I like this behavior.
    I don't understand what you mean. I can run packer as non-root, and when it needs root access it asks me for my password. As far as I can tell, this is the same thing that yaourt does. Are you expecting it to do something else?
    Mikko777 wrote:
    1: yaourt -Syu --aur --devel --noconfirm    (--devel is nice)
    2: on first install edit/ show pkgbuild
    3: yaourt -C  <-- list and edit .pacnew files
    4: vote for packages
    Those are all great ideas. I will add my opinion as another packer user.
    1. I've never used the "--devel" option. Does that mean, it will look for AUR packages that you installed that got the files out of a CVS repository, and download and install the super duper just-updated-at-two-in-the-morning version of it? If that's what it does, then I can imagine that being a nice feature, but it can also be done by doing "packer -S", right? As for "--noconfirm", packer seems pretty unobtrusive to me right now, so I don't really miss that option.
    2. I'm confused. Packer asks me if I want to see the PKGBUILD when I install a package from the AUR. You mean, show the PKGBUILD instead of asking? Or, only show PKGBUILD on the first install?
    3. I personally prefer to do "sudo updatedb && locate pacnew".
    4. I never liked the "vote" feature on yaourt. I think it's confusing. If I just finished installing a package from the AUR, how do I know if I want to vote for it if I haven't used it yet? I prefer to use the program for a while, then use "aurvote".

    The situation is slightly better.
    now indicator-applet-session work as expected. tested with empathy and pidgin.
    indicator-applet (the icon with the letter envelope) even that seems to work (tested with /usr/libexec/im-client) but nothing on arch trigger compatible events. as usual applications are patched upstream. standard compiling of available sources, also lacks of initial menu applet found in Ubuntu to launch applications.
    no localization at the moment, only English.
    I added a dbus rule which may represent a security lack. I ask those who have more knowledge of dbus to give advice on.
    suggestions are appreciated

    However I do not think it's worth to be used on arch.

    What are your /tmp permissions?
    Also, is your /tmp on a separate partition?  If so, what is the fstab entry for it?

    I recently started working on Oracle and came across this problem. I coded below given query to get the latest date from table and compare it with Sysdate + 1 timestamp. I am not able to understand what I coded wrong but the query gives me wrong results as explained below :
    select NVL(MAX(to_char(max(last_update),'mm/dd/yyyy hh12:mi:ss AM')), to_char(sysdate + 1,'mm/dd/yyyy')||' 12:00:00 AM')
    from Audit_Table_Name
    where col1 = 'AA'
    and location_type = 'STATE'
    and original_flag = 'Y'
    group by col1,location_type,original_flag;
    Here Max(last_update) from Audit Table Contains value --> 08/25/2009 12:00:00 AM
    Note : Data type of last_update is Date
    so ideally speaking it should give 08/26/2009 12:00:00 AM but surprisingly it is giving 08/25/2009 12:00:00 AM as output. Anyone can explain why this is happening and what we need to do to get correct results?
    Regards,
    Amol

    1) Why would you expect this to return a date of 8/26? NVL returns the first parameter unless it is NULL. If the first parameter is NULL, it returns the second parameter. Since
    MAX(to_char(max(last_update),'mm/dd/yyyy hh12:mi:ss AM'))returns a non-NULL value, that value will be returned. Oracle never needs to evaluate the second parameter
    to_char(sysdate + 1,'mm/dd/yyyy')||' 12:00:00 AM'You state that you want to compare the MAX( last_update ) to SYSDATE + 1. Your code isn't doing a comparison now. And it's not clear from your description what comparison you actually want to do. Can you elaborate a bit on what you want to compare and what the output should be depending on the result of that comparison?
    2) You almost certainly want to do as much of the logic as possible using dates and only convert to a string at the very end. Otherwise, you risk comparing two strings that represent dates using string comparison semantics and getting a result you don't expect.
    3) My guess (and it is just a guess) is that you want something like
    SELECT GREATEST( max(last_update), trunc(sysdate+1) )or
    SELECT TO_CHAR( GREATEST( max(last_update), trunc(sysdate+1) ), 'mm/dd/yyyy hh12:mi:ss AM' )Justin

  • Adobe Muse (2014.3) "Add Web Font" Function Not Working As Expected - Newly Added Fonts Become Unavailable Though Shown

    Hello.
    This has also been posted in the Community: Adobe Muse Bugs forum.
    I've been having some odd/irregular issues though they have now become fairly predictable in nature. The issue is in regards to Adobe Muse (2014.3) and the availability of web fonts provided through the applications "Add Web Fonts" feature. Once added they perform as expected but then become "unavailable." Full details below. I have been a Creative Cloud Complete subscriber for a number of years so am fairly familiar with the way in which the system works minus a few issues that have popped up now and then, this one included.
    System Info:
    Adobe Creative Cloud (Full Subscription): Version 1.9.1.474
    Adobe Muse: Version 2014.3
    OS X Yosemite: 10.10.2
    Here is a recap of what has been taking place. I'll detail the bug as best I can.
    1. Created new Adobe Muse project. Everything normal.
    2. Chose to add a new font through the "Add Web Fonts" function within Muse. A note, my Creative Cloud App is running/open at all times (in file synch mode).
    3. Chose new fonts using above. All seemed fine (see screenshots below).
    4. Fonts also were indicated as being "Synched" within Creative Cloud (screenshot below).
    5. As expected the two fonts were added to the list of available Web Fonts within Muse (first screenshot below - left). I added them successfully to my site. Well after a number of hours I went back to this same font selection menu within Muse and the fonts were still visible yet the sub-menu that one would expect showing various forms (i.e. Bold, Italic, etc) was not available. In a sense the font could not be chosen from the list even though the name is clearly visible (second screenshot below - right).
    Have no idea what may have been wrong. Saved Muse project, closed and reopened - nothing changed. Created new project - fonts still "shown" in menu but can't be used. Did find a vague description using Google of similar problem (different application) which recommended closing Creative Cloud Desktop App and reopening as one possible solution. This DID WORK initially yet the problem, though corrected for a period of time (few hours at most), would reappear again where one would again see yet not be able to choose from the two Web Fonts. Went so far as to uninstalling the Creative Cloud Desktop application and reinstalling. Still have not solved the problem.
    Any thoughts as to what this may be would be welcome. Restarting the CC app each and every time the fonts become unavailable is quite time consuming to my workflow.
    Thanks!

    Abhishek,
    Thank you for the reply. Wanted to comment on a few things.
    I reviewed the other post that you've referenced. Nothing unusual jumped out at me as something that I was not aware of. I'm running an older iMac that is in good working condition. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24" screen. I know this issue is fleeting, as I stated earlier typically can be corrected with a restart of the CC Desktop application (that I am always running at startup). I have not been able to determine that shutting down Muse corrects the issue. I would, at this time say it doesn't.
    I did open InDesign and see if the fonts in question, Open Sans and Open Sans Condensed, were present and usable. They were. The fonts are shown as being synched in my CC Desktop app window (even if they are not "installed" in Muse). That is expected but it may be a bug in how Muse brings in a font from those that are already synched to your CC account. I don't know enough about how that works to comment.
    And just to complicate matters, Muse seems to be working again, the fonts that is. I brought them back in and they are showing up in all locations (which there are actually three - see screen shots).
    First is primary text menu dropdown (to right of orange "Text").
    Second is if you click orange Text link. Another drop down menu appears.
    And lastly, the Text Panel to right of screen.
    I also wanted to add this extra bit of information, for what it is worth. When the issue arises and you do not get the sub-menu dropdown showing various styles of the font (italics, bold, etc.), one can use click on the missing font if you had used it previously and it is present in the "previously used font" list.
    Cheers!

    Here's the control file for the bursting program, based on the demo:

    </xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    This part seems fine - the email goes out, but the expected PDF attachment of the invoice is not there, presumably because it wasn't generated.
    Thanks for making it to the bottom of this!!!
    Any suggestions?
