Given the information supplied, it sounds very similar to what happened to my wife's 4. Locked up...came back on with a blank (bluish) screen...could here emails and text coming through. It would get very hot as well. Our local apple store tried two times to rescue it, ultimately rendering it complete inoperable. I'm sorry to say in our case we had to buy a refurb and trade in the phone for $150, which actually wasn't a bad deal.
There could be other information I'm missing, but I would start with seeing if apple can restore your phone. If they can't, then I'm pretty sure it's dead.

I have bought a IPhone 4 from Malaysia, my home button is not working. I want to replace the phone under warranty but all service centres mention that its country specific and I need to get it replaced only at malaysia. Can anyone guide me what to do????
The iPhone warranty is not international and as you purchased in
Malaysia the warranty is only valid in Malaysia
You could try taking to an iPhone Authorised service provider
in India but there have been many similar posts to yours
and I am not aware of them assisting with an iPhone from
outside India -
My son has an iPod touch and his home button doesn't work on it. Because the home button didn't work he had the touch button on his screen to navigate through things. Last night he was out, shut his wifi off because there wasn't any wifi to connect too, and was fooling around with his iPod. Somehow he enabled switch control on his iPod, then it shut down and now can't get into it because the touch home button has disappeared, wifi still isn't connected and home button doesn't work.
We tried rebooting it and wiping it remotely, but because there isn't wifi, we can't connect. Also, it's password protected and we can't get into it from the computer because of the switch control.
Please help if you can. He's had it for two years and is feeling pretty down today, it took him a long time to save up and buy it.
Thank you so much.Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and then restore via iTunes:

IPod Touch 4G Home button doesn't work
I bought my iPod Touch 4G in January of 2011, so I've had it for a little over a year now.
Recently, the home button has been finicky (I had to press it repeatedly for it to respond sometimes) and today it stopped working all together. I restored it, hoping that it was the iPod itself, but it still doesn't work. It's not stuck or anything, because I'm able to press it all the way down.
If I were to take it into the Apple store, would I have to pay to have it fixed (I never bought a warranty)? I've never dropped it or anything either.Try this previous discussion:

2nd gen ipod touch sleep/wake button will not work
Like the title says, the sleep/wake button (top button) doesn't work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. In short, I can't put it into sleep mode (I have to wait the one minute), turn it off to save the battery, take screenshots, or even reset it (without iTunes, anyways).
I don't have any guesses on why it's not working. It just stopped working one day. I don't see water damage (via the water damage detector in the earbud jack), and I don't think I dropped it in a way that would harm it (unless dropping it on carpet counts).
I should also mention that randomly, one day after school, I was messing with it, and the button worked. I think the battery had died, and I managed to turn it on then. It worked for a few hours (I charged the battery), and then it went back to not working.
The warranty's up (and I'm broke), so I can't repair it. I also want to point out that the problem started not long after the warranty expired. What, at this point, is my best option? Should I just save up for the newest model? Or would it be cheaper and more efficient to save up just enough for a repair? Any other options I should consider?
Thanks in advance. As I said, you can move on to Restore. Backup everything then Restore as New. Restoring from backup would just copy whatever software issue you may have. But it sure looks more and more like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the button to see if perhaps some dirt particles are stuck there.
You can also make an appointment with a Gnius at the nearest Apple store to have it diagnosed. Apple does not fix iPods, they just replace them with refurbished units, so it won't be cheap. Prices are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You can Google for third part repair hops or do-it-yoursel kits.
Good luck. -

IPod Touch 2G Home button not working after OS4 upgrade
Hi there,
hope someone can help. Upgraded an iPod Touch 2G to OS4.1 and teh home button will not work now normally, but will work if its attached to a PC and iTunes. Anyone seen this before and how to fix it?
Cheers,
MartinHI there,
thanks for the reply. Tried both of what you suggested, also tried the home button thing only working while plugged in with two computers and two different leads which is why I suspect is an operating system thing.
I may try downgrading the operating system next, just have to find a copy of an old one somewhere.
Cheers,

Is there a size difference between iPod Touch 1G home button and other versions of iPod Touch?
I have an old iPod Touch 1G home button that got stuck. So I bought a new home button to replace it and I'm having trouble fitting it in the hole that I'm replacing. I'm not sure the new button I have is for iPod Touch 1G or for other iTouch versions.
Does anyone know where I find a video how to replace iPod Touch home button and where can buy the home button if the button I have is not for 1G?this is a shop online were you can buy the home button http://www.repairsuniverse.com/ipod-touch-1g-button-replacements.html

How to fix ipod touch 4g home button(jammed)
How to fix ipod touch 4g home button(jammed)?
Hey! So I found out this free way to be able to use the home button with no cost! It won't unjam it, but using this method you will have a touchscreen homebutton.
Directions:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to General
3. Scroll down and go to Accessibility
4. Scroll down and go to Assistive Touch
5. Then turn assistive touch on.
What you will see is a little white circle on the screen. When you tap this circle you have the Home button option(which functions all the ways of your jammed home button). As well as a few other options; Device, Favorites and Gestures. You can move that circle about the screen for your convenience. This is just a way to have a home button without paying to restore. -
My iPod Touch 4th Generation is crashing a lot. And the home button is not working.
Recently my iPod would crash when I go on Youtube or any other app or it would be super slow. My current IOS is 6.1.3. The iPod starts working again when I turn it off and on but only for a couple of minutes. Also the home button does not work when I press it.
To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
Next
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
