Yosemite bugs?

Hi there, currently using Yosemite on my mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina...but I have found a few issues :
1. Finder keeps folding folder names from time to time. Here's a picture : http://imgur.com/V0GGD8t
2. I usually create an alias Appliation folder on my dock for convenience but its kinda slow and it stutters when I scroll in Yosemite.
3. Bluetooth connection to my Sound Blaster Roar keeps disconnecting and then fails to reconnect again, unless I reboot. Didn't get that on Mavericks.
I was wondering if anyone else is facing the same issues or are there any possible solutions?
Thanks!

To be fair, as a beta tester, I found that Apple moved through fixes of a MULTITUDE of bugs fairly rapidly, and the fixes have been stable.
And, to be fair, the bugs in Apple 'wares pale by comparison with bugs in MS 'wares, bugs that MS just LEAVES there.
Part of the GUI dealie is that Apple is trying to make the visual appearance between devices the same. So that what you see on an iPhone looks the same as on an iPad and looks the same on an iMac... etc. etc. , which makes the experience for consumers more seamless in feel and comprehension of how to operate things.
I also understand that the less sophisticated the icons and so forth, the smaller the footprint of the OS can be...= less HD space used by the OS, more space for MY stuff, like photos, or music files. May also lend speed to visual rendering of OS objects, if they are a bit less complex.
I think that Apple is trading off some of the uber-rich GUI,(yes, very pretty, I loved it too), for a more lean and efficient GUI/OS. My iMac is running this OS faster than it ran Mavericks.
I think that the current bugs will be addressed fairly quickly, and well, just as has been my experience through the various beta versions. Honestly, I didn't find the move to the different icon appearance to be that much of a difficulty, having become accustomed to them on my mobile devices. This may encourage more iPhone users to become Mac users....I rather hope so, anyway.
Do send feedback to Apple.
Good luck as the new OS moves forward!
Cheers!

  • After shutdown I have to log in twice.  The first time it starts to load, then goes black, then gives me login page again.  Do you think I have a virus?  Or is this Yosemite bug?

Just updated to Yosemite on my MBP.  After shutdown now when I login, it starts the process (the bar starts to move), then the screen goes black, then it asks me to login again and this time it is a successful startup.  Is this a Yosemite bug or do I have a virus?  I also have some funny tiling on the screen at youtube and some other websites.  Another bug?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Yosemite Bugs, Bluetooth and Audio

MacBook Retina Early 2013.      Bluetooth does not connect to any devices, Apple phone, iPad. and audio output has stopped working since Yosemite update.   I am desperate for solutions.  Can anyone help.  How can Apple launch a new update with some many bugs.  It is a disgrace.

Using Windows Update will cause untold grief, especially for drivers. I have the same hardware and W8.1 64-bit (not Pro). The BC drivers work without any issues.

  • Mavericks vs Yosemite open/save dialog : Yosemite BUG

    Hi,
I noticed a bug after upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite regarding open/save dialogs.
I Googled this problem and find nothing related.
So I decided to make a comparison with fresh installs and latest updates:
    - Mavericks 10.9.5
    - Yosemite 10.10.2
Yosemite has clearly a performance bug on open/save dialogs.
On Mavericks, the animation is smooth and rapid.
On Yosemite, the animation lags and is not smooth at all.
I made a video on YouTube regarding this problem.
You can check it : http://youtu.be/t2WTaeKI3go
I would like to know if others have this problem and if there is a solution.
    My configuration is :
    MacBook Air 13" Mid-2011
    1,7 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 Go 1333 MHz DDR3
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    SSD 256 Go

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Any news on when Yosemite bugs will be fixed?

Has anyone heard when Apple will publish a general update to fix the numerous bugs in this new, almost unusable, operating system?  In particular, Safari is running extremely slow, and I have lost connectivity between my Mac and my HP 7520 All in One printer.  This operating system gives Vista a good reputation.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Yosemite bugs: Fans, High CPU Usage

Hi, my late 2013 MBP Retina was updated to Yosemite recently (on the day it came out, so indexing is definitely complete), and I started having these periods of time when Kernel_task would take up over 400% of my CPU (seen on iStat pro) and the laptop would just lag very badly. The fans have also not been running (no wind movement or sound) even though I tried to use istat pro to force the rpm to the maximum.
I thought it might have been a problem with iStat pro so I uninstalled it but the fans still don't work. Have rebooted a few times, done fsck, but no dice. Tried searching for similar problems but everybody seems to be complaining about their fans working too much, haven't found a complaint about their fans not running at all. Hoping mine isn't an isolated incident, or I'll probably have to bring the computer in to check instead of waiting for an update.
Anybody has any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance.

You have probably already tried an SMC reset, but if not I would try it

  • Yosemite bug? Itunes Home sharing does not see library on additional drive

I have a 2011 iMac 27" with two internal drives, an 256GB SSD main drive and a 3TB hard drive (/Volumes/Media). My iTunes library is held on the 3TB drive for space reasons, and the correct path to the library is in Preferences > Advanced. I have enabled Home Sharing, and have made sure that the sharing tab is correctly set to allow all content to be visible.
On my 2010 Macbook Pro, I can connect to the iMac iTunes through Home Sharing (there is an entry in the drop down list at top left), but I can see no content at all.
If I change the path to back to the default library in Preferences on the SSD drive (i.e. /Users/david/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media) rather than the real library (/Volumes/Media/Itunes/Itunes Media) and import a song, then that song immediately becomes visible on the Macbook Pro.
Therefore, the actual mechanism for streaming the content seems to be working, but it only seems to work if the library is on the default disk.
    Is this

  • Has anyone had issues with the most recent Yosemite update

I installed Yosemite October of 2014 mainly because I needed to update itunes to continue to help my daughter maintain her music files. Anyway the reason hardly matters. My computer and Yosemite did not get along. Posted up a file of my computer condition for people to look at here and the basic recommendation was to delete this that and the other thing. So I did that and the computer worked somewhat better. However I really am not sure if it was working better because Apple had been making progress with Yosemite ironing out Yosemite bugs. I had not reinstalled any of the software that it was recommended I delete back in October. So I doubt that is an issue.
Two weeks ago while updating, generally, a Yosemite update started downloading to my computer. It is now running 10.10.2.
Since then Mozilla crashes about five times a day and runs very slowly most of the time. Wondering if there is anything I can do or should I just wait it out...hope for the bestv AGAIN. I am encouraged by the fact that over time from October to mid February, Yosemite and my computer kept getting along better and batter. Since the update I am more or less back to square 1 as far as general speed and functionality and behind the eight ball as far as Miozilla goes as it is crashing constantly.
I also do not like how update files are identified in Yosemite. There are times when all you get is a notification that there are updates ready with no identification of what they are. Had I known that was a Yosemite update, I would  not have touched it. What is up with this no identification of update files? Trying to ambush us now because people are beginning to avoid their updates? Good grief Apple.
Anyway....any ideas? Just wait it out? Hope Apple gets back on a path of bug fixes for Yosemite? Anybody with a quick fix for this one?

Automatically checking for updates is not the same thing as automatically installing updates and even automatically downloading updates is not the same thing as automatically installing updates. If Apple has now decided to describe them and implement them that way ....that is a mistake!
Here is what I have in my App store preferences although I repeat, I have never changed anything. What items are selected there are the items selected ions ago or defaulted in possibly with iTunes 12.0 installed and I was always in the past been given the opportunity to view any updates BEFORE They installed.
"Automatically check for updates" is checked. That should not cause an issue of any kind. If it is that is a problem not of my making!
"Download newly available updates in the background" is checked with an additional descriptive line of information that reads "you will be notified when the updates are ready to be installed" I was going to uncheck this. Although I did not ever go to this location and change my settings which leads me to believe that this is a default choice in Yosemite or iTunes 12.0 as this is not the way I am used to my updates either coming to me or being installed
"Install app updates" is checked ...Really....with permission, without permission, with notification? What the heck does this line really mean? Going to uncheck this
"Install OS X updates" IS NOT CHECKED
"Install system data files and security updates" is checked. This is another one that I am going to uncheck
"Automatically download apps purchased on other macs" is not checked
This system clearly Installed an OS X update without even asking me if I wanted it installed regardless of the fact the box is not even checked. So I have no idea how it managed to do that when the check box for OS X updates is not checked. A big OS X screen came up as the thing started installing leaving little doubt what it was at the point of being too late to do anything about it
There is an interesting element to the relationship between "Download newly available updates in the background" and "Install app updates". If you uncheck the former, a check immediately appears in the box for the latter and the box ix grayed out preventing you from making further changes. So your options are for updates to be downloaded in the background or have updates installed without prior notification. What the heck kind of a choice is that?
I am going to uncheck all of these for the time being except "automatic checking" and "Download newly available updates in the background". The former  should not cause a problem and has never in the past caused a problem. Seems to me that I am forced to the latter for now. However to be perfectly honest i no longer have any idea what Apple is doing and I am not completely convinced that they know either.....not any more
I am going to go to Apple Tech Support and get full descriptions from them as it appears possible that they have changed their definitions and descriptive materials with regard to update activity either in Yosemite or iTunes.
Finally, this issue with automatic checking has nothing to do with Mozilla crashing five times a day in Yosemite. That is a separate problem and I guess I am just going to have to hope that Apple Yosemite bug fixes brings this back under control.

  • New files not appearing in Yosemite

Did a clean install of Yosemite to a new drive on a Mid 2010 Mac Pro (2.8 GHz Quad-Core/16GB RAM) and I have an issue where the OS is occasionally not showing a new file when I save one. The issue is random and intermittent, I cannot reproduce it on demand. The files DO exist and I'm not mis-saving to a different location. I know this because my workaround has been to do a spotlight search for the file in the folder where it's supposed to be. It will pop up in the search and when I back out of the search it will magically appear in the folder.
All I can say for reproducing the error is I have only noted it coming from when I do a "Save As" or "Export" type action. Files copied using the OS itself do not exhibit this behavior. My primary programs are Adobe InDesign and Photoshop CC, it has happened on saving a new file, and on exporting PDFs.
As near as I can tell it's YAYB (Yet Another Yosemite Bug). Thankfully, it's easily overcome. But if there is a permanent fix I'd like to know it.

    Hi
SAP-OSS connection connection test is running fine, did you maintained your router settings proper in OSS1.
if all those are fine, try with another suser did u face the same problem?
    Please check

  • Help wanted after up grade to Yosemite

I recently up graded to Yosemite and now I have a black screen with log in box. My log in password is not recognised and I cannot get into my computer?
I have been reading many other similar posts about the Yosemite bugs when the operating system has been downloaded but I need to know what to do to overcome my problem.
    I use a desk top iMac (2011
Any help would be much appreciated.

Having the same issue. It says waiting for activation in the system. Also discovered my phone is no longer active. Apparently when I loads iOS 6.1 I lost service. Thinking if I call in to provider should be back on.

  • Plug off the ethernet cable, ox y yosemite crashes, laptop shuts down

Hi, I Just had recently another  problem :
I use the etherent cable for faster internet speed, but if I unplug it, or it comes off, my entire computer shuts down.
Is PRAM the answer, I seemed to read that everywhere with Yosemite bugs,
    thanks for anyones input!

The "do something with the battery" you're referring to would be to unplug it for a minute. You can go to ifixit.com and get detailed instructions on how to do it for your model. The other thing I'd suggest, though I'm not sure it'll work with your machine in this condition, is to reset the SMC. You can try.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If your MPB is a 2009 or later, follow the "for a battery you should not remove" instructions.

  • Photos on contacts are different sizes since iOS8. Is that a bug?

I've had iPhones for a long time. My contacts have all been carried over and everything has worked well untill iOS8 (or is is a Yosemite bug?) I have a macbook pro 2014 with Yosemite and an iPhone5 with iOS8. This is what happens:
I update (and allways have updated) all contacts through my macbooks. This is so I have a small photo of whoever is calling
Like the one above. But now some of these photos cover the whole of the iPhone when these people call me (only a few, not all)
Before, if you added a photo to a contact via the iPhone you got those big photos of your contact. I however never have done this
Is it a bug? Has iOS8 suddenly decided that my wifes face should be big (lol) but not my sisters?
Seriosly though. Is this a known issue? Waht can I do to changee this? Is it because the photo is "too big" (over 224Kb)  for iOS8 to
keep it small. I am out of things to try ... Need the small contact pics back please
    //Nik

iCloud syncs all your contacts with all your devices.
However, if you are using a second service for syncing contacts, you need some little extra work.
    First things to do:
    1. When You sync contacts via iCloud you must disable the sync via iTunes.
    2. Check Address Book Preferences > Account to see if it syncs only with iClud or also with Google

  • Yosemite pdf rendering issue

Hello. I'm using a MacBook Air (11"; mid-2011) that I have just upgraded to MacOS Yosemite. I am having a new issue, and I'm trying to isolate the problem.
I use software called xfig (a figure drawing program) that produces simple line drawings. There is a program called fig2dev that converts these "fig" files to other formats such as pdf. This has worked well for many years for me, and is suddenly having issues.
In the latest version of MacOS, shaded regions no longer show up the way that I am expecting.
I've created a simple image (just a box shaded by diagonal lines) using xfig and converted to pdf.
When viewed using Acrobat it appears as expected, but Preview and other native pdf viewers don't show the shading.
So I don't know if this is an issue with pdf compliance of transfig output (I did check it with a compliance verifier,
which found some minor issues) or rather with Yosemite. The fact that a number of other issues have been
reported with Yosemite pdf handling makes me suspect the latter.
The pdf file can be accessed here: http://www.math.uvic.ca/faculty/aquas/test.pdf
So. The question: Is this a Yosemite bug?

MacBook Pro early 2011 and Yosemite.
I got issues with Preview too. I wanted to open a PDF, and it did not open properly, the result was a distorted figure full of colors. I re installed Yosemite with Apple help, and it didn't fix the issue. At the Genius Bar in the Apple Store they told me to upgrade the RAM memory, they did not fix the Preview and PDF issue.

  • Time Capsule/Machine or Yosemite Issues

    Hi,
I am really struggling with my system, 10.2.  Not sure whether it is OS X or time capsule, although both have been reset, reformatted, OS X reinstalled as backup and as fresh install with only putting back applications and documents.  But my system is still playing up.  Any suggestions?
My symptoms are, time machine backups occur regular to time capsule then after sometime they just stop running.  I have not seen a valid error message.  I reboot the mac and it struggles to shutdown, often black screen with the rotating circle.  I have reset PRAM/SMC/NCRAM, I have tried so many things with little success.
I have the time machine widget which says the message below, although the preference panel said that it was looking for the disk, not that it was preparing or anything.  So I cancelled it.

The error I see is that the drive was NOT dismounted at the end of the previously successful backup.
So the next attempt at backup sees the drive as busy with the last backup.. to break this cycle has been an issue since Lion.. !!
The fix is simple .. reboot the TC. Once a week that is ok.
Not particularly helpful though if it happens several times a day.
This is just poor programming from Apple and poor bug fixes ever since.. not treating these issues as serious.
Both Time Machine and Networking in the latest Yosemite are simply poor.
I recommend you jump out. Accept the inevitable and use either a local external drive as a TM target.. so you get away from the network issues.
Or buy Carbon Copy Cloner (or other 3rd party backup) and use that.. to get away from the TM bugs.. you can even combine them and use CCC on an external drive.. but you will need to explore what works for you.
This is my list of details of getting past the networking issues with Yosemite.. but TM may still have issues. And I cannot fix those.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
This user has had success and a few others as well.
