You need a java SE 6 Runtime

I have Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro and every time I run "Dreamweave" or "Eclipse" for example, I get this message: "To open "Eclipse" you need a java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install it now ?".
I've tried installing it many many times, manualy and from this notification but it doesnt work.
I've tried installing Java 7 and tried uninstalling Java 7 then installing "Java For OSX 2013-002" and dosent work too !
everytime I install any Java version I tried this "java -version" I got this result "No Java runtime present, requesting install." !
anybody can help ?
Thanks

Contact the developers of that software for a updated 10.8.3 verison that runs off Java 7.
They are likely working on it or perhaps something better not relying upon Java at all.
Java is a real security nightmare lately.

I keep getting a pop up window labled Software Update saying, "To open 'MLBNexDefAutobahn,' you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" I click on "Not Now" and it pops open again a second later.  It is not going away! Is this a Java virus? I just installed Maverick Wednesday and got a message yesterday on google that "Google would like to take over this computer"??? Please help.
    Thanks!

This is not a virus, or any other kind of malware. Some third-party software that you have installed is repeatedly trying to open a Java process called MLBNexDefAutobahn. What that software might be, I don't know. What software do you have that this name might fit with?

  • To open you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Why, when I have 1.7 installed?

PREFACE: I've read most of the posts on here that discuss this issue but none have provided a real answer to this.
I'm on Moutain Lion w/ all the latest updates from the App Store.
I've installed Oracle's latest Java JDK (7u11) because of the recent security issue. When I go to Terminal and type in "java -version", it's the latest version of Oracle's 1.7. I don't have Apple's 1.6 version of Java on my system. I've verified that by checking in the appropriate System folder for the 1.6 JRE & JDK.
So all seems to be fine so far and per Apple's recommendation, I'm using Oracle's latest version of Java.
So when I go to run Charles debugging proxy, which is a Java desktop app, I get the following message in a dialog:
"To open "Charles,” you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?"
If I have the latest Oracle Java version installed, why am I being prompted to install Apple's 1.6 version?
I've had this prompt in the past and went through the install before. Contrary to what another poster in another thread says, choosing install at the prompt ignores the fact that 1.7 is installed and does in fact install Apple Java 1.6. It's an outdated version of Java which I don't want on my system.
Why do I need to install Apple's 1.6 when Oracle's Java 1.7 latest is already there?

You would need to ask the "Charles" developer that question. There seem to be quite a few issues regarding Java 1.6 and 1.7 with the Oracle version causing the most trouble. This, of course, is not an Apple problem to solve. The Java community and Oracle need to sort out their troubles.
You can, of course, have both versions on your system but you need to do some terminal work to switch between them. Apple has a tech support document that explains how to do that.

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:

However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

  • After installing Mavericks, I receive a prompt saying "To open Nexdef, you need a Java SE 6 runtime."  I select "Install" but the pop up returns.

Tonight I upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.  After the upgrade I get a pop up for a software update.  After selecting "install" it downloads & completes the install.  But then the pop-up returns.  What's up?  Can somebody give a pointer.
I'm running a Mid-2012 Mac Mini, but that probably doesn't matter for this discussion.

Java is a third party runtime developed by Oracle, formerly Sun who Oracle purchased.
Java 6 is near obsolete, Apple used to maintain Java 6 for OS X 10.6 and earlier, but stopped in OS X Lion and further.
Java 7 is now a user optional download directly from Oracle, however your Nexdef will also have to be updated to use Java 7.
Java has a very bad history of security issues, in fact Apple's entire Cupertino HQ  was compromised by Flashback malware which targeted flaws in Java.
Perhaps by then they'll have a version for Mavericks.
If you don't need Java 7 for anything else, then don't install it. This will keep your machine more secure.
Perhaps the next Nexdef won't use Java at all, but if it does then it will either install it or demand that it does.
If you do install it, try to limit it's use in your browsers, turning it on only for sites you trust.

  • To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6," you need a Java SE 6 runtime

I get message when I try to launch a newlt installed version of Illustrator CS6 under mountain lion. Java is not on that machine but do I def have to install it or is there a way around this? Thanks

In case this may be useful for anyone running OSX Mavericks (10.9.3) and encountering the "...need Java se6 runtime..." to launch Illustrator CS6 message, I found the below link on an Apple support page tonight:
    Java for OS X 2013-005
I had already de-installed and re-installed Illustrator CS6, thinking this might solve the problem, but I was still getting the "...need java se6 runtime" message.
I assumed because the above link appeared to be for OSX Lion or Mountain Lion, that it wouldn't do me any good since I am running a newer OS (Mavericks). However, after downloading the "Java for OS X 2013-005" that's found via the above link I was able to launch Illustrator CS6.
I've been running OSX Mavericks for a few months and using Illustrator CS6 every day, and had never encountered the "...need Java se6 runtime..." message. What was different for me was, in the last 24 hours, I had the Apple Store re-install OSX Mavericks on my iMac to try to diagnose another issue. The "...need java se6 runtime..." message only started popping up since yesterday's re-install of OSX Mavericks.
I think I recall reading tonight that re-installing OSX Mavericks may wipe out previously-installed versions of Java, or at least this "Java se6 runtime" - whatever that actually is.

  • To open "Adobe Photoshop CS6.app," you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?

Why would I get this now I have been using the program for years?even cs5 pops up that message?.. confused, any ideas?

Until Lion, Java was always installed by default in OS X. That's why you never noticed before. You can download Java for Lion manually, as Csound1 suggests, or you can go to the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and double click the Java Preferences app. It will tell you Java needs to be installed. Click OK.

  • Illustrator CS6 now needs legacy Java SE 6 runtime?

Help. I tried to open my Illustrator CS6 today and got the following error message, "To open Adobe Illustrator CS6 you need to install the legacy Java SE runtime". • Adobe Captivate 7 needs legacy Java SE 6 runtime

I need assistance with Adobe Captivate 7; it now prompts me each time I try to open the app to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime and then closes.  The only changes that I've made to my 13" MBPr, was to upgrade to Yosemite and install the newest version of MS Outlook.  Thanks!

This issue was corrected after installing Java for OS X 2014-001 and then restarting my system - all is good.

  • Why do I need "legacy Java SE 6 runtime?"

I tried to open Photoshop CS 5.1 and was told I needed to download "legacy Java SE 6 runtime," whatever that is. I assume this is because I recently put Yosemite on my iMac. So where do I find this Java thingy, or would upgrading to the latest Photoshop solve the problem?

If that doesn't help, download an earlier version of Java. Java for OS X 2014-001 If the page does not display, go to your web browser's preferences (then security, then details) and delete the cookies for apple.com.

  • Do you need a Java Engine to print W-2?

We are in the process of upgrading our system to ERP 2005 ... in testing, the HR department said they can't print W-2 because the Java engine wasn't installed.  Can anyone confirm the java engine is a requirment for W2s to be printed in ERP2005?
    Thanks in Advance!

Hi Dawn.  We tried doing that when we first ran into this problem a few months ago.  It does allow us to print the sapscript forms, but we would still have the issue of the sapscript no longer being supported by SAP for ERP2005.  So if we were to have problems with our sapscript later on we wouldn't have any help from SAP.  Therefore our plan is still to migrate to the PDF forms, since those will have SAP support.  We're viewing the workaround as a sort of temporary last resort in case we need it, just to get the W-2s out for this year.

  • "Would you like to install a Java SE 6 runtime now?" NO!!!

Every 30 minutes or so, the message, To open “java,” you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now? pops on my screen no matter what software I am using. I disabled anything Java in my web browsers, looking at the log in the Console, etc. To no avail. Needless to say, I am greatly disinclined to install an application that Apple decided to drop after experts warned about its security, but how can I stop this pesky message?

  • Adobe is asking for Java SE 6 runtime. How can I use Oracle's Java 7 instead?

Platform: Mac OS X, version 10.9.2 (the latest available as of May 11, 2014)
When trying to open my old Adobe Illustrator, as part of Creative Suite CS4, I get the following error message:
To open "Adobe Illustrator CS4," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?
I have the latest Oracle Java 7 (Version 7 Update 55) installed and I don't want the historic Apple Java 6. How can I configure Adobe software to use the already installed Java 7?
    Best, regards

A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
