"You need to install a printer"

I'm running Acrobat Pro 9.5.0 under Windows 7 Pro 64-bit build 7601 SP 1.  It usually works correctly, but every few hours, when I open a PDF file and hit Ctrl-P or invoke File/Print, an error box pops up:
The fact is that my Windows 7 installation already includes several printers, all listed when I go to Start Menu -> Devices and Printers.  My default printer works correctly from all other applications (e.g. MS-Word, Mozille Firefox).  However, I can't seem to convince Acrobat to use it, without re-booting my computer.  And then, after I re-boot, I can print from Acrobat for the next few hours, until for some unexpected reason, the same problem recurs.
Now I'm getting pretty tired of interrupting my work to reboot my system every time I want to print a PDF document.  I would really like to know why and how this problem happens and how to fix it.  Any ideas?

I have the same Windows/Adobe setup and the same exact problem.  I'm wondering if it has to do with a recent Windows update?  I'm trying to do an install repair but it's hanging at about 1/6th of the way.  Richard, do you have any USB devices that are installed as printers but aren't?  I have a plotter that uses a printer driver and its driver was just updated in a Windows update.  I've been creating a lot of .eps files for it lately and then this "install a printer" thing started happening.  I'm trying to figure out if it's an Acrobat thing or due to my other activities.
Oooh!  15 minutes later, the repair jumped to 9 minutes remaiing, then 12, then 15, then 17, now 21.... the bar hasn't moved but at least it's giving me a baseline for my wasted time.  Now it's fluttering between 21 and 22 minutes remaining.
I also just updated Firefox, the Acrobat plugin won't let me print from it either; and it keeps crashing unless I use it in an IE Tab.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro just started asking the following "Before you can perform print-related tasks... you need to install a printer?"

The printer is installed and works perfectly, even when using other Adobe products like Photoshop. I have to open the PDF in Photoshop just to print it. What is wrong with Acrobat Pro, and why is it acting up without any changes to my system, printer, software, etc? This problem began about a week ago, after YEARS of using Acrobat without any issues.

  • "Before you can perform print-related tasks...,you need to install a printer"

I have Windows XP SP3.  I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I've never had a problem printing a pdf file before.  My printer is a year old and all other applications print without problems.  Suddenly, I am unable to print pdf's.  Any suggestions?

Please  verify  if you're Acrobat 9  is updated to  9.4.2 by  checking the version at  Help > About Acrobat  9 Pro
If  it  is Acrobat 9.4.2 then  do  the the  following....
    the fast and easy way:
1.) go to the installation directory of Acrobat (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat)
    2.) Look for the file "Adobe.Acrobat.Dependencies.manifest"; do  a right click (open with)  then  select from the list  of programs -  choose Wordpad;
3.) Delete the line <file name="atl.dll" /> then  click  on the Save button
4.) Reboot your machine after saving that file
This should fix the issue of being unable to print PDF file after installing 9.4.2 update for Adobe Acrobat.

  • Photoshop CS4 - Windows XP Pro - Message reads: 'Before you can perform printer related tasks .... you need to install printer.

All of a sudden, my CS4 Photoshop will not print. It gives me the message "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." What has happened? I cannot get into any of the print or page setup menus to change preferences so where do I go from here?

I just updated my Canon MG3500 series printer driver through Canon support. Printer worked fine, but I could not print from Photoshop.
I followed all the links and the instructions on the Adobe help site, but could not go past the "Print" box in my Photoshop CS4, so none of the other information could be applied.
I could open images in Adobe Illustrator, and print from that program, but 99% of my image work is in Photoshop.
    I found a link at http://yourbusiness.azcentral.com/printer-not-found-photoshop-cs4-11574.html
That information advised to locate the Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp file and rename it to Prefs.psp.old, because when you recreate your preferences file, PhotoShop deletes the custom settings associated with the file.
It threw up a warning when I changed the name, but I figured I could always change it back. After shutting down the computer and printer, restarting both and opening Photoshop CS4 I was able to open the print dialog box and print photos again.
    Hope this helps.

  • I keep getting an error message "To open X1100 Series Button Monitor, you need to install Rosetta".  I used to have a Lexmark X1100 printer attached to this Mac.  How can I stop this error?

I just had a new hard drive put in my IMac and ever since I got it home this error pops up "To open X1100 Series Button Monitor, you need to install Rosetta.  Would you like to install it now?  Two years ago I had a Lexmark printer attached to this Mac.  I'm not sure why this is happening as I believe I have move all Lexmark files to the Trash bin.  Does anyone know how I can stop getting this error?  Thanks.

Check in System Preferences> Printers to see if the Lexmark is still showing in your printer list. If it is, click it and hit the minus button to remove it.
If it's not showing, when you trashed the Lexmark software, did you notice if there was an uninstall file? Sometimes just moving unwanted programs to the trash can doesn't get rid of all of the installed software and the software manufacturers include an uninstall option to remove those 'hidden additional files'.
Check support at Lexmark's web site to see if they offer a solution.

  • I have a box that will not go away, it says,  "To open JavaApplication, you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime.  Would you like to check for and install one?  If i push not now, it keeps popping up, if I push install, it says it's not available, help.

I have a dialogue box that will not go away and it seems to have started when I upgraded to Mt. Lion.  the box says, "To open JavaApplication, you need to install a Java 6 SE runtime.  Would you like to check for and install one?  (smaller print)  Note: Usw of this software is subject to the Software License Agreement applicable to the software you are downloading.  A list of Apple SLAs may be found here: htp://www.apple.com/legal/sla/
Finally there are two boxes to click.  One says not now.  If I click on that the box goes away for 2 to 3 seconds and then pops back up and WILL NOT go away.  If I click on the second box, Install, it says  The software is currently unavailable.  To install a Java SE 6 runtime later, open Java Application again.
My confusion here is that I have no idea what the java application is, When I click "okay" on that box, the original box pops us again and WILL NOT go away. CGoing to the apple lega web site was no help.  My solution so far has been to drag the dialogue box as far to the lower right and out of the way as far as I can.  Help.

Does this happen immediately after you log in? If so, one of your login items is probably causing it.

  • I'm using Aurora versioon of Firefox. It won't print & says I need to install a printer but it's already installed.

I'm using Aurora version of Firefox (v. 5.02a). I try to print but it won't and says I need to install a printer. I say OK but it then fails. I already have my printer installed and it works fine with all browsers but Aurora. This problem happened about the time I was offered to upgrade to v 6.02a. I tried upgrading but the upgrade failed and I lost all my many tabs that I keep open for research for my writing. I must be able to print and wonder what I should do (and why 6.0a2 didn't work!).

That 5.0a2 version is old as Firefox 5.0 has been on the Beta channel for some time now and is due for release on June 21 next week (despite what some sites wrongly claim).
Firefox 6.0a2 has been getting developed on the Aurora channl for a few weeks now.
You should update to recent Firefox 5.0 beta 7 at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ or update when 5.0 is released.

  • I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still

I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still gives me the same mess

In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
    thx for any input

  • To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.

Recently updated to OSX Yosemite.  Now every time I turn the computer on I get this message.
To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
I don't know what CS5ServiceManager is.  And when I click on the "More Info" button, I am redirected to a blank screen.  So I'm confused and a little worried.  Is it necessary to install Java SE 6 runtime?  If so, I think I can find the instructions on how to do it, but I'd like to know if (1) it is safe to do so and (2) if it's necessary.

Here it is: Apple Java 2014-001. Quite safe to install. Only necessary if you are using Adobe's CS5 suite.

  • When I try and open adobe illustrator I get a pop up message saying "To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."

When I try and open adobe illustrator I get a pop up message saying "To open “Adobe Illustrator CS6” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." it also says "Click “More Info…” to visit the legacy Java SE 6 download website." When i click more info it transfers me to an apple page which never loads, its just a blank page. I downloaded Java SE 6 like it says it needs but it did nothing. All of my other Adobe programs such as bridge, dreamweaver, lightroom, Photoshop, indesign, and flash all work except for illustrator. What can I do to fix this?

Go to Apple and look for the Java for OSX 2014-001 link. Download from there and install it.

  • To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime. Won't install? Please advise.

Hi Apple Support Communities, I need some support.
After loading Mavericks with lots of happiness primarily to be able to use dictation, see my previous query. Since then I have also had this come up on my Macbook Air everytime I start it.
To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check for and install one? I tried yes (many times over many days).
    Install.
Finding software. Can't download the software because of a network problem.
There is no problem with my internet connection & I have Java 7. My apologies that I am just a general user & not up with technical issues, would someone please enlighten me on what to do to fix or remove this error.
its now become a tiresome thing that together with not being able to use (download) the enhanced dictation & my imail/gmail problems that makes me wanna buy a PC next time. Major bummer.
    Please help. Thankyou in anticipation.

i had the same problem and i fix it installing ccleaner, it is free and an excellent program. You can download it from: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Once installed, in the tab "Herramientas" (sorry but i have it in spanish) you choose "Inicio" and them you pick CS5ServiceManager then you pick in delete option. Basically you are removing of the startup programs...
Hoping to be helpful, and excuse my bad english!

  • To open "adobe" you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime. Won't install? Please advise.

hello, every time i start up my Mac mini i get a message saying To open "adobe" you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime.
But when i press install it says no connection available even though i am connected to a really reliable and fast connection.
    Please help - Thank you!

every time i start up my Mac mini i get a message saying To open "adobe"
That's not what your screenshot shows. It shows "java," not "adobe." Regardless, I very strongly suggest that you figure out what is trying to use Java before you install it.

This goes for Dreamweaver CC on Mavericks!!!!! THANK YOU!
I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked  OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks!

Some malicious site try to get you to install malware by saying yo have to update Flash.
Only update Flash via Adobe's site.
What version of Flash is currently installed?
In System Preferences they may be an entry for Flash in Lion. I do not remember. There is for Yosemite
