Youtube HTML5 fails to load in Safari 5, or 4.0.5

All I get is the spinning HTML5 whirly thing for Youtube's HTML5 videos (although Apple's demo HTML5 page loads without problem). I have no such problems in Chrome or Firefox.
I also previously had the same issue in Safari 4.0.5. With Safari 5 I have tried removing the add-on plug-ins and uninstalling and reinstalling Flash, all to no avail.
Help would be much appreciated!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
If you didn't repair disk permissions after reinstalling Flash, Adobe suggests you do that. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/2dda3d81.html
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*
Relaunch Safari. If that didn't help, install the v10.5.8 Combo Update

  • Web Authentication Panel Failing to Load in Safari 3.2.1

I recently started having a problem with Safari 3.2.1 under Mac OS 10.5.6.
We use a proxy server at work, and usually the web authentication window would appear and I could enter my username and password. Recently I started getting the following error:
    Safari[258] * Assertion failure in -[NSTextFieldCell _objectValue:forString:errorDescription:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-949.43/AppKit.subproj/NSCell.m:1338
Safari[258] Failed to show WebAuthenticationPanel: Invalid parameter not satisfying: aString != nil
I have reset safari, emptied the cache...
I can use Firefox just fine so I think this is a local problem with safari on my computer.
    Any ideas?

    I have the same problem:
    9/05/09 1:44:01 PM Safari[5774] * Assertion failure in -[NSTextFieldCell _objectValue:forString:errorDescription:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-949.43/AppKit.subproj/NSCell.m:1338
9/05/09 1:44:01 PM Safari[5774] Failed to show WebAuthenticationPanel: Invalid parameter not satisfying: aString != nil
I also use a proxy, set by a proxy.pac in the network preferences (Automatic Proxy).
However I have found it is not this that causes it.
I also use the 1Password safari extension, and with Safari 3.2.1 and a proxy configured, it causes this issue.
*How I fixed it:* was to goto into 1Password > Preferences > General, and disabling "Use 1Password enabled HTTP Authentication windows", then restart Safari.

  • Safari 4.0 update would not load.  Safari/iTunes will no longer launch.

Used software updater - Download quits half-way through and fails to load. Safari and iTunes will no longer launch. Grrrrr. . . . Any one?

Download them directly from Apple rather than relying on Software Updater:
    Safari 4:
    http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
    iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Repair permissions before and after install, and restart your Mac.

  • My Muse website won't load in Safari!!!

Today, my website, www.realtorindfw.com, constantly fails to load in Safari, yet opens just fine in Chrome and Firefox. Any suggestions why?
I have a preloader that spins until all elements are loaded and this only displays for about a second on all browsers except Safari. In Safari, it just spins forever because apparently two images never seem load. Maybe it has something to do with my specific Safari, not sure. I already deleted my cache and restarted Safari. Does the site fail to load in other Safari browsers? Thanks.

This problem has persisted all day long, yet the moment I posted to this forum, it seemed to resolve itself. That didn't last long though, now the problem has returned. Also, I didn't specify above, but I am only referring to desktop browsers.
Why exactly would a website load quickly in one browser, yet completely fail to load in another?
Any suggestions on how to get the website to load properly in Safari, when it already loads perfectly in all other browsers?

  • Youtube videos not loading in Safari?

Youtube videos load in the Youtube app but don't load in Safari/Atomic. I can see the screen cap and press play, but the video never loads (the spinning circle spins forever or disappears). I can load HTML5 videos on other sites with no issues. Anyone know how to fix this?
    I've tried:
    -powering off then on
    -syncing to PC
    -turning off auto-brightness
-youtube.com/html5 and clicked "Join the HTML5 Beta"
-clearing history, cookies, cache in Safari Settings
    My iPad is on 4.3.3.

If you will provide URL for videos, then we can test them for you.
    What pray tell is Safari/Atomic?

  • Slow youtube loading on Safari

    Hi all!
I know there are tons of threads that discuss my same issue, but none have seemed to help.
Youtube takes forever to load on both Safari and Firefox but not Google Chrome. If I wait long enough it eventually logs on to youtube and when I click a video to play, it takes forever to load but will eventually play perfectly! It does it in safe mode and with a "test" account. Here are the things I've already tried to do to fix the problem.
    1. Checked to see if I was in the youtube HTML5 trial...I was not. Even tried to opt in but it didn't make a difference
    2. Reset Safari, emptied the cache and deleted cookies
    3. Deleted data in the system preferences for Flash
    4. Uninstalled Flash, restarted, installed Flash and restarted.
    5. Repaired disk permissions then restarted...same problem
    6. Rebooted in safe mode then restarted...same problem
    7. Rebooted in test user...same problem
    8. Rebooted in safe mode...same problem
    9. Turned off the one extension I use (AD Blocker)...and still nothing.
I am running Safari 5.1.7 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 using Flash 11.4.402.287
I hope someone might have a clue as to why my Safari isn't playing nice with youtube anymore....thanks in advance!

Sorry I missed you, you might have a further problem, run through the Steps here

Try another user account and see if the problems disappear or return after some use, likely it could be a YouTube problem.

  • Youtube won't load on safari

Youtube video won't load lately on Safari.... the time of the video is 00:00 all the time and sometimes when I refresh it like 5 times it will load eventually.

One of the following steps should help.
    1. Install Adobe Flash Player.
        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
        Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
    2.  Enable Plug-ins
        Safari > Preferences > Security
        Web Content:
Click in the box for "Enable Plug-ins".
    3. Check  whether you are currently  in  YouTube HTML 5 trial.
         http://www.youtube.com/html5
At the bottom  left of the page  uncheck the box for
"You are currently in the HTML5 trial".
    4. Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the boxes next to all items.
Check the box next to "Remove all website data".
        Click "Reset".
    5. Turn off Extensions/Plug-ins if any that may interfere with Flash working properly.
        Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Best.

  • I've been having a problem with Safari failing to load about 10-20% of pages.

Safari is returning the message 'failed to connect to server' but sites opening fine in other browsers so ISP connection seems fine.
Safari will repeatedly fail to open a page when it is on the same server/site as other pages that load correctly and I can navigate to other pages after a failed page load.
I'm also able to return an hour or so later and open the pages that failed but no idea why I'm getting temporarily blocked out from some pages/links.
Problem has only occurred in the last few days but seems persistant.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using the latest version of snow leopard on a 2009 MacBook Pro.
    Many thanks,

    Hi...
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, it's free, and should fix the can't connect to server issue.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
Then click OK and restart your Mac.
    More about OpenDNS here.

  • Safari-Firefox both failing to load, network connected

I'm running firefox 19.0 and Safari 5.1.7. Both are crashing by failing to load for 5-10 minutes or in that looks like html code. Network diagnostics indicates network is fine. I've re-started multiple times w no change. Thank you in advance for any help.

That looks like it was the problem for me as well. I've just disabled it and after clearing the cache it looks OK now. Thanks for the solution!

  • Some websites fail to load page on safari

Two websites, Twitter and my bank fail to load properly.  The page starts to load then hangs when the blus bar is about a quarter of the way across the address bar.  The fault is intermittant - sometimes the page loads fine - and it doesn't seem to be the site as if I use another mac the problem is not replicated on it and the page comes up.  I have cleared the cache etc and it doesn't seem to help.  Any ideas anyone?

You can try resetting Safari using the option under the Safari menu. You might not want to reset everything, so I suggest looking at the options.

  • Failed to load page missing Safari

Whenever i try to load a safari page blocked by government filters (china), it always shows a blank screen instead of failed to load page...
This happened when i installed AVG linkscanner and SOPHOS AV...
but after unistallation, it returns to normal. After a while when a few computer issues mounted up i installed avast! AV, the white screen issue is back!!!
Please help i like to know if my page doesnt load
Note: this can happen to google as well

That's very odd. Did you try with just Sophos installed, or only with both AVG and Sophos? The free version of Sophos does not include any kind of link scanner or other browser plug-ins that would cause such issues. It's very odd that this is happening with multiple anti-virus programs to begin with, but if it's happening with something like Sophos that shouldn't change browser behavior, there's likely to be a problem of some kind elsewhere.
Regarding the need for anti-virus software... for the most part, the average Mac user doesn't need any. Mac OS X protects against all currently-known malware. However, you're in China, and that changes things a bit. Certain groups in China have been heavily targeted by malware in the last couple years, and even if you're not part of one of those groups, you could still become "collateral damage." Because of the increased exposure you may have, it's probably a good idea to have some kind of anti-virus software installed as an additional layer of security. I'm sure some folks would disagree, saying that if some malware can slip past the built-in defenses in Mac OS X, it will slip past anti-virus software as well. That's not a universal truth, though... different detection methods can have different levels of success for specific malware. The holes in one layer of defense may (or may not) be covered by a different layer.
For more information about this sort of stuff, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • Safari failing to load screenshots properly

I have recently been seeing that Safari 5.0.1 is failing to load screenshots properly. Instead the image starts to load but once complete it automatically starts to reload time after time, almost as though it is redirecting to the same page. I have seen this happen both with screenshots of my own and URLs created by others like this one below. The same URLs loads normally in FireFox with no problem.
    http://media.macupdate.com/images/screens/uploaded/JPG/35137_scr.jpg
This URL from a domain on my server http://www.sunnymede.net/screenshots/ringflash_1.jpg was giving the same problem in Safari. Then the problem seemed to clear but I just checked now and it is doing the same repeated reloading. Is anybody else seeing this kind of strange behaviour in Safari?

That looks like it was the problem for me as well. I've just disabled it and after clearing the cache it looks OK now. Thanks for the solution!

  • Safari fails to load in Lion

I upgaded to Lion. now safari hangs with spinning beach ball and fails to load any URL. I use a macbook. Can you help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
