Youtube Videos do NOT play if media.mediasource.enabled is set true (Youtube with HTML 5 Player). WHY?
I am Using the new HTML 5 Player when watching Videos on Youtube. It works just fine when media.mediasource.enabled is set to "false" but then I cannot get the full experience because the lack of features!
If I enable it, NO Video is going to load, meaning I cannot watch any Video on Youtube!
As a workaround I installed the Plugin "Youtube Control Center" (missing in your List below). But it would be nice if I would NOT have to use this...
Even better would be if Firefox would Support WebM. But this does not seem to be the case since YT uses exactly this Format with its new Player... (And if I enable this media.mediasource.enabled (set it "true") NOTHING works anymore.)
Firefox plays the "old" WebM format in its default configuration (media.mediasource.enabled=false). You can verify that here: [http://www.webmfiles.org/demo-files/].
From what I have read, turning on MediaSource will allow you to play the "new" WebM on YouTube ''starting in Firefox 31''. Even though the preference exists in Firefox 30, I don't think the actual code is there, which would explain why advertising that capability to YouTube causes total failure.

Youtube videos are not playing back
Youtube videos are not playing back in Safari 5.1.7. I've also checked this in Firefox 16.0.2.
I am running OS 10.6.8.
Why is this happening? I need this capabilitiy for my work efforts.
Thanks (in advance)!I'm having similar problems to you all. Chrome and Firefox will play YT videos back perfectly. But for some reason certain users' entire channels that were working fine in Safari on Thhursday 1st Nov 2012 had stopped working by the next day! After upgrading Flash and resetting the cache etc it was a bit better but still some not working. I then downloaded the 6.0.2 update (again after a bit of aggro as some error message kept popping up, then after a while it worked ok). Now still some videos refuse to play in Safari. Latest FF browser seems OK and not too slow. I have always liked Safari though and am a bit annoyed that I've had to to make FF my default as it's a bit ugly. It may be a YT problem rather than Apple. Once upon a time in the hazy crazy days of Tiger and Leopard I had no Apple problems. Now lots of very minor but basic issues keep popping up!

Youtube videos do not play properly
I appreciate any suggestions with this problem. I have a Mac G4 laptop (PowerPC) running OS 10.4
Most web videos do not play properly on my computer, especially if they use Adobe Flash Player. (QuickTime videos play fine.)
I have had my internet connections checked by my provider, and the speed is very good, and the configuration is OK, so they do not understand why I am having trouble. When I try to play YouTube videos, I get a slideshow, with a new frame every 2 or 3 seconds. I have tried using my computer on my friend's internet connection, and it has the same problem. My friend can watch the same YouTube video perfectly well on his own computer, even though his download speed is much slower than mine.
I have already tried the following fixes several times:
complete uninstall of old versions of Flash Player
reinstall of the latest version of Flash Player. (My computer does recognize that the player is there, as I said, it just plays the video as a slideshow.)
Repairing permissions and restarting
resetting Safari, manually clearing cache, cookies, etc. (Although I also have the same problem in Firefox)
Downgrading to Flash Player 9
Trashing QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
Trying to trash all DivX files (I don't have any, it turns out)
making sure audio midi settings are for 44.1
trashing the Macromedia preferences folder
None of these things have helped me. Thank you in advance for any other ideas of things to try.Rogerskth,
Sorry, I wasn't clear. My computer NEVER played flash videos properly, with any version of Flash. Considering that Flash is maxxing out my CPU power (as measured by the Activity Meter) I suppose that slow CPU speed really IS the cause of my problem. Since you have a faster computer, and your computer used to play the videos OK, it seems likely that your problem is SOME OTHER mysterious problem.
Bungee33,
You might be pleased to know that in English we have the same expression as the German which you quoted
"we in Germany say, that a horse given as a present must not be critizised by judging the teeth in the mouth of the animal"
In English, we say "don't look a gift horse in the mouth." -
Hi All,
Before I pull the plug on FireFox, I'll try once more. YouTube Videos do not play. They start then stop with the cryptic error message "An error has occurred.... Other videos play fine. YouTube videos play fine on that other browser. I've tried all the suggestions in this forum, my PlugIns were uninstalled and re-installed, Firefox was uninstalled and re-installed and No, I do not live in India. Anybody have any idea what's wrong. What's Google doing that Mozilla can't figure out?Do you have the latest version of Flash Player? Download Flash Player at get.adobe.com/flashplayer and install it. Also, is your internet slow? Try changing your quality on the video to low when the video starts to see if it does the same thing.

youtube video is not playing on my mac pro laptop. Just a blank screen shows up where the video should be playing. I have norton anti virus and firewall installed on the laptop. Could it have something to do with it?
unless you have a partition for another operating system, such as Windows or Linux, most mac users would agree that any a/v software is completly unnecesary and will do more harm than good. There is a free a/v in the appstore called "ClamXav. Have you installed all software updates and also have you tried youtube using different browsers (chrome, safari, opera, etc)?

Embedded YouTube videos do not play on my Mac Mini
Embedded YouTube videos don't play in non-YouTube web pages. I can click the link in the top of the video to be taken directly to YouTube, and I can watch the video there, but when I click the big Play button in the middle of the video window, I just get a black rectangle.
I tried uninstalling Flash player as suggested in another thread, rebooted my machine, and reinstalled Flash player, but that did not fix the problem. This is a non-Flash player problem that Apple should look into. I have not tried this on other browsers to see if I have the same problem there or not, as I do not use other browsers besides Firefox. I would rather not have to use another browser just so that I can watch embedded YouTube videos. I would prefer if Apple (or another knowledgeable user) can post the solution to the problem. Thanks! In Firefox, click Tools>Add-ons. Make sure the Shockwave Flash plugin is enabled and "Always activated".
If that fails, see: How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X in the Adobe Forums. That will clear out the pluigins and allow a fresh install with the new plugin. -
Hi,
as a newby to DPS with Indesign CC, I'm currently working on a catalog that contains internal jumlinks and embedded youtube video's.
All works fine in preview (Folio Overlay > Preview on desktop).
Then I export to Adobe PDF (Interactive).
When I open the PDF the internal links work just fint.
But the Youtube video is not popping up.
To embed the video I've inserted this code: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6EXxtnTOnqA?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" ></iframe>
And I've selected 'autoplay' in the Folio Overlays
So what am I missing here?
Thanks for you help,
DimitriHi Bob,
Like I said I'm a Newby, I even don't really understand what you mean with this.
I'm working in de Digital Publishing toolset (I thought that was DPS).
I use Folio Overlays over the embedded youtube code, with autoplay on.
Than I export to PDF interactive, but neither Adobe reader, nor Preview is showing the vid. -
IPAD youtube videos will not play on "base" wifi but play on "4G" wifi
This problem affects my IPAD2 IPAD3, iphone 4s, iphone 4 with same presentation. All my devices on iOS 7.0.3 .. problem started a month ago about time first upgraded to iOS7 . my ISP at home upstream of my AP is ATT uverse .. ATT is also my provider of 4G wifi via my iphone .. on my home network I use a higher end watchguard router / firewall appliance and for wifi the watchguard AP200s
While connected to my home base wifi, I attempt to play youtube video (several different ways described below) the youtube opens and clearly finds the video but screen says “Playback error Tap to retry”
Next if I turn on the hotspot from my iphone and connect all ipads etc via 4G WIFI then exact same steps result in the video loading and playing NORMALLY … ?? dns issue
Summary of troubleshooting steps so far;
-my Microsoft surface tablet connected to base wifi .. if I run same exact link / video it runs perfectly .. so clearly the base wifi is ok with surface tablet and youtube videos ..
-all wired PCs etc at on network can run youtube videos with no issues ..
-ipad - deleted youtube app and reinstalled … same problem
-ipad - reset all settings .. same problem
-ipad - deleted all cookies and data on safari .. same problem
-ipad – turned cookies to accept all cookies … same problem
-ipad – deleted youtube app and forced to run from safari browser .. same problem
-ipad – manually added 8.8.8.8 as alternative dns to the base wifi .. same problem
-iphones have same behavior but the workaround is very easy here just turn off wifi .. forces down the 4G .. that works fine but for testing purposes I connect to base and all issues mentioned above on ipads are replicated
-rebooted / power cycled ATT RG, WG router, WG AP200s … no change (did this near beginning of troubleshooting)
Any ideas?Ok I will answer my own issue .. sort of
Partially solved the problem. Seems there is a generalized problem with firewalls and the youtube / apple.
Adding an exception to the firewall for AV scanning allowed the youtube app to start working but accessing the youtube via safari still does not work. Also after adding the exception I had to delete and reinstall the youtube app.
Again before adding this exception .. if I connected to to wifi via my ATT cellular hotspot .. both the app and the safari youtube videos played correctly.

Embedded Youtube Video's not Playing in Web Viewer
I have several YouTube videos embedded in my folios. They all play fine when being viewed in the app, but if the folio is shared (by any channel) and viewed in the web viewer these videos won't play. Instead the user is greeted by this error:
Not found
Invalid character in path
I know that other apps using embedded youtube videos are playing just fine in the web viewer (I check out Wired) so I'm curious why mine are broken.
Any thoughts? This streaming YouTube example works fine in DPS Tips web viewer:
http://contentviewer.adobe.com/s/DPS%20Tips/7f80a0ffed3a4ff08734bc905aac4a29/Advanced_Over lays/29_Video_Stream.html
Here's the embed code I used:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QV1UZ-88HeE?rel=0" frameborder="0" ></iframe>
Are you using the same embed code format for your overlay? -
this is a recent problem - the videos play in Chrome and Explorer, but not in Firefox
This happens if Firefox uses the HTML5 media player and can't play the media file.

Chatango not desplaying Icons, Most Youtube videos will not play.
I do seem to be getting the issue were FF5 will not play Youtube videos, but this is not consistent. If I go to youtube to watch them, the will state there was an error in loading the video. But if I click on a video in MSN and it takes me to youtube, then the video will play.
Also, avatar Icons on chatango are not showing up. So far these are the only two sites I've noticed a problem on.
I tried to do a lot of trouble shooting myself, such as running my antimalware bytes, cleaning my cache and cookies, checking to make sure all the plug ins I knew how to get to were up to date, and that I had the latest version of Java Script and Flash Player.
At this point...I'm at a lose as to what else it could be, or I can do. I've even re-downloaded FF5 and reinstalled it.
This is getting really annoying, because I have Chrome as well, and it keeps crashing Flash. Explorer likes to think it crashed when I close it and it restarts. None of my Browsers seem to be working correctly right now.As you know, Firefox 5 contains publicly reported security vulnerabilities, so you probably should update again soon.
You've probably read that there are some compatibility issues between the latest Flash player and some Firefox add-ons or settings. Could you see whether this article has anything new that you haven't tried: [[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox]]. -
Youtube videos do not play over wifi in iOS 5.1
I am running a wireless network off an Airport Express (running the latest firmware) and after 5.1 my iPhone 4 as well as brand new iPad cannot play youtube videos. I just get an "unknown error" window popup. This is true for the YouTube app, as well as the mobile and desktop site in safari. However if I use 3G on my phone, or wireless hotspot and share the connection with my iPad, youtube works just fine. There's nothing crazy about my network and my phone never had any issues showing youtube videos till 5.1.
HELP??Actually, after two days of it not working and while I was on the phone waiting to talk to someone at AppleCare,, it started working. I have no idea why, the only thing that might changes I turned Bluetooth off on my iPad. However it started working on my iPhone again and Bluetooth is always on on that device. Either it was something really strange with the Wi-Fi sessions, or something got changed about how iOS devices access iPad that day.
Try cycling Bluetooth. It's my only guess. -
This problem has been brought up and I tried every possible solution...uninstalled and re-installed...updated, etc. The video shows the opening frame, but when I try to play, I get the same error message "am error occured, please try again later" The video plays fine in IE.
The website with the video does not make any difference. They do not play anywhere using Firefox. Below is one URL example."Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"<br />
"Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
