Youtube & Vimeo Compression Settings.

Hello i am using Compressor 4.1.3 and im trying to figure out the guidelines for youtube compression. There are many different variables and alot of suggestions from other users that are just guessing at what box to check.
As we all know the default compression settings in compressor 4.1 for youtube and vimeo are not correct.
Vimeo makes it really easy by posting it here:
https://vimeo.com/help/faq/uploading-to-vimeo/compression-tutorials#compressor-4 11
Step by step - very easy.
Google offers this:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en
Very general settings - Non specific to compressor
Does anybody have the bottom line on Compressor 4.1 youtube compression settings?

The Picture on top is the default vimeo setting in compressor. The bottom is the settings that Vimeo provides. I have tried the default settings and get warnings when i upload to vimeo. Im thinking this must be the same for youtube since i get warnings when i upload a video compressed with the default settings. I made my own custom settings based off of what youtube suggests. I dont get warnings but im guessing at some of the settings. Im gust looking for an official guide if it exists.

  • Youtube / Vimeo Export Settings

    Hello Everyone
Im always trying different settings when I need to upload videos to either Youtube or Vimeo but haven really found something that I am really happy with.
Has anyone here found a set of settings they are happy with and would you be willing to share?
    Thank you

I get great results for YouTube with this droplet:

Of course, it's all going to depend on your source footage. If you drop DV on this, it's not going to look good.

make sure you have sufficient drive space on your target drive.  Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free space on your startup drive.  What format is the original quicktime movie?

  • Does AMC adjust so YouTube/Vimeo videos are not too dark

Hi, been having problems with videoes coming out too dark in YouTube.  This seems to be a problem lots of people are having.  Just to clarify I mean the video is a lot darker on youtube/vimeo than if played in something like VLC on the same monitor.
Was wondering if ABC brigtened up to image to compensate for this?
    Ben

These are the settings I use for online uploads:
    High Profile @ Level 5.0
    VBR, 2-Pass
    Target Bitrate: 168.75 (max)
    Enable: Maximum Bit Depth
    Key Frame Distance: 7
    Baseline Profile @ Level 5.0
    VBR, 2-Pass
    Target Bitrate: 135 (max)
    Enable: Maximum Bit Depth
    Key Frame Distance: 10
Also: In the Multiplexer tab check that Stream Compatibility is set to Standard. It defaults to iPod.
Try rendering a short test clip using the two settings and let me know how they look in YouTube. If neither file works, please import to your NLE and post a screen capture of the same frame from the ProRes, AME H.264, and transcoded YouTube files. You can download the files from the Video Manager page; the option is listed near the bottom of the pulldown menu that starts with "Edit".
EDIT: Added note regarding multiplexer stream compatibility.

  • Best setting for export to revver/youtube/vimeo

    Hey,
I've been trying all different settings and i still haven't been able to find the combination that makes for good quality video on sites such as revver/youtube/vimeo. I've tried all types of tutes online but none seem to work for me. I know theres a youtube setting but most people seem to say this is exports too small a size.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

I'm not familiar with revver. YouTube is not up to the quality of Vimeo. I suggest exporting for Vimeo, using the suggested settings on the Vimeo site. Use that same file for uploading to YouTube/revver.
To give you an example of the quality you can achieve on Vimeo, here is a clip I posted. The source material was 4:3 DV in a 16:9 SD project, encoded to 1280x720 (Vimeo HD) WMV with 2-pass unconstrained VBR with target bitrate at 5500 Mbps and audio at 128 Kbps.

Even on YouTube it looks decent.

  • "Best" export compression settings?

I have a 3.5 minute project that was shot in XD Cam EX 1920 x 1080 30p and I would like to be able to send a finished movie via e-mail to numerous prospects (it's a marketing piece for my video production services). Therefore I have quite a challenge: I want it to look really good but I'd also like it to be smaller than 10 GB so that it is e-mailable, and be delivered in a PC friendly version...any suggestions?

I know what you're going for and it's a valiant concept. But it's just not going to be successful for you. Yes you're adding more clicks for your viewers. One more click. Now you're up to 2! (One to launch the page, one to say "Go") It's not going to be a deal breaker.
And consider this: IF you were somehow able to embed the final movie in an email and have them only commit to a single click you're likely going to have issues on the viewing end still. People don't also know enough to "extract" the movie from their mail to somewhere, like their desktop, and play it from there. What I'm getting at is: expecting everyone's e-mail client to playback the movie is simply asking for problems. (I've had many issues with e-mailed movies until I coax the recipient to get the file OUT of the e-mail first. Then things are typically OK.) So this e-mailing concept may be 1 step forward: 1 click to initiate. And 2 steps back: your HIGHLY compressed movie stutters and bogs inside somebody's version of Outlook (or whatever they're using.)
Not to mention you're not really giving your work a fair shake if you crush it down so heavily that 3.5 minutes is less than 10MB. For your own sake I'd think you'd want to retain as much quality as possible along the way. I'd post to YouTube, Vimeo, Blip, Exposure room. See who has the best image quality with your material. Embed these movies in your own webpage/site (or not) and send the links out.
    Just my 2¢.

  • Extracting information about image compression settings

    Hi,
Is there any way using SDK 7.0.5 to determine what image compression settings were used for color, grayscale, and monochrome images for a given pdf file?
Also, is it possible to determine which color management policy was used?
    Thanks,
    Daniel Sheiner

Okay, Distiller was a bad example. The same range of settings are available for exporting PDFs from Word. What if someone converted a Word document to a PDF?
Supposing some or most of the information I'm looking for is lost, how much can I infer? For example, if a given PDEImage has the PDEColorSpace DeviceRGB or CalRGB, that at least tells me the user didn't select Color Management Policies -> Convert All Colors to CMYK. It would actually be tremendously helpful if you could tell me which other ColorSpace names, if any, would indicate the user didn't select Convert All Colors to CMYK.
It would also be quite helpful to know if there is some indirect way to determine that a given color or grayscale PDEImage has not been compressed using ZIP, or that a monochrome PDEImage has not been compressed using CCITT Group 4.
    Thanks!

  • "Uncompressed 10-bit" vs. "None" Compression settings

    Hello,
I work at a FX/finishing/color grading facility that provides the final masters for commercials seen on television.
I am trying to gain some insight on the difference between some compression settings, so that I can educate a client on the proper file to provide us.
We have been provided Quicktime files with an "Uncompressed 10-bit NTSC" tag attached to it, though they always come with an FCP wrapper that requires a special codec for us to access the files. They are usually relatively smaller files, which also has us suspecting that they are actually compressed.
We would prefer files with a universal Quicktime codec, such as exporting it with "None" as done in the Quicktime conversion in FCP. Problem being, these files get so huge and unmanageable even when derived from low-end acquisition formats.
A 5 second clip exported with "Uncompressed 10 bit" comes to are 115megs, while "None" is at 457 megs.
Can someone explain to me the differences between these codecs and what causes the vast difference in file sizes?

  • No Preview Box in "Standard Video Compression Settings"

    Hi:
I'm taking a class in Photoshop CS5.  Our textbook is Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in A Book and we've reached Lesson 12 Working with 3D Images.  At the end of the chapter we made a 3 second Quicktime (H.264 Compression) movie.  According to the book, after choosing Quicktime Export in the Render Video diolog box, it should open a Movie Settings diolog box which, after choosing Videe Settings button, opens the Standard Video Compression Settings box.  In the lower right of that box there should be a Preview window showing the effect of the compression on a frame of the animation.  For me the preview window is blank even though I can compress the file. I've moved the animation's timeline current time indicator to the beginning, middle, and end of the animation but to no effect.
I'm rumming a Macbook 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of SDRAM.  The computer does support OpenGL which appears to be chosen in the 3D section of Photoshop's preferences.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Don't worry about file size at this point; the determining factor is program length. A single layer 4.7GB DVD will hold about two hours of video. The compression is handled in the DVD authoring application.
From FCE, just export to QuickTime Movie (do not use QT Conversion). If you'll burn the DVD on the same computer, make sure the "self-contained" box is unchecked for a much quicker export.

  • Trying to import .avi file to adjust the compression settings to xvid

I'm trying to import a .avi file in order to adjust the compression settings to XVID and keep getting an error message

ANd that error message is..? What file? What system? What version of AE? You need to be a lot more specific. That said, AE doesn't really deal with Xvid, DivX and similar garbage, so you might as well look for other tools in the first place.

  • Timelapse Compression Settings FCE

I have RAW images and work on an Adobe Bridge/LR Timelapse/Adobe After Effects workflow.I've recently had the trouble with quality loss in FCE. I don't have FCP (so no ProRES compression). What sequence presets, compression settings should I use for a timelapse for online streaming?

    towanda62 wrote:
... but when burned to a DVD with iDVD, it jumps in the DVD player .
for usage with iDVD, no 'Conversion' needed, the dvd-authoring app will convert anyhow. 'Export QT movie' should do it. too much 'intermediates' doesn't add any value in DVD-making.
'jumping' usually indicates a) too high burn speed, b) 'dirty' player- or burner-head, c) 'wrong' brand of dvd-r (Verbatim has an excellent track-record here), don't use no-names.

  • Best QuickTime Audio/Video Compression Settings?

    Hello there,
Before inserting an iMovie to an iDVD project, I must compress it in QuickTime as it won't fit if "shared" as full-quality.
What Audio and Video compression settings will provide, preserve, or enhance the audio/video content? I have the latest version of QuickTime Pro and am pretty savy with it.
Thank you very much for any feedback you may provide.

  • Incompatible Compression Settings

I'm using Final Cut Studio and I recently added a BlackMagic DeckLink card in order to master to BetaSP. Everytime I try to Edit to Tape I get an error message "Incompatible Compression Settings" The note says that my Compression settings may not match my Output settings. How can you match the settings when the options are different in every menu. I'm trying to do 10 bit NTSC but it's called something different in each interface. I can crash to tape without a problem so why is it so difficult to insert to Time Code? Any work arounds?

So here's what I figured out. When I nest my final timeline (12 tracks) in a 4 track timeline w/ the same settings it works. So I'm assuming the error was just a confusing way of saying that I had too many tracks for a two channel output. I know FCP wants you to mix down to 8 tracks I'm not 100% sure that's what was going on but track nesting seems to be the solution.
    Thanks for everyone who helped.
