  • [SOLVED] Pacman wont upgrade any packages

    EDIT: I was able to solve my problem by pacman -R yaourt package-query pacman-color, I was then able to update pacman. Since I like yaourt and wanted to keep it I follow the instructions on their page (http://archlinux.fr/yaourt-en#get_it). I added their repo to my /etc/pacman.conf and then installed yaourt from pacman and now everything works again like it should.
    When I try to upgrade packages I get the following errors:

  • [Solved] Forcing pacman to reinstall all packages.

    To avoid making myself look any stupider than necessary, I'll try and keep this short.
    I ran out of space on my root partition in the middle of a pacman -Syu. This resulted in a lot of non-functioning packages. I have already successfully increased the size of the partition to about four times its old size using the Gparted LiveCD, and miraculously enough, Archlinux still boots, I still have wifi (and thus Internet access), and pacman still works. If pacman upgrades a package, it appears to start functioning again, which is nice. Now the problem.
    Essentially, I would like to perform an upgrade on all packages on my system, including the ones that are up to date. This should fix them. Unfortunately, pacman -Syu (or -Syuf) only upgrades packages that appear out of date. I'm aware that I can accomplish this on a package by package basis simply using pacman -S, but I don't know of a way to obtain a list of all installed packages. How might I upgrade all the up to date ones as well?
    Also, if anyone asks why my root partition was so small, the answer is some variation on the phrase "I'm an idiot".

    So to answer your question, 'pacman -Q' lists installed packages. By the sounds of it, you might want to browse through the pacman manpage (it's good stuff, really!), there are a lot of nifty options you probably don't know about yet.
    Also I'm guessing the excuse you're looking for is something like... "i didn't get my tacos that day"
    Please feel free to shoot me down in flames if I am wrong won't this mark everything as explicitly installed?  Not usre if that would be a problem or not.

  • [SOLVED] -Qkk shows "no mtree file" for all packages

    When running pacman -Qkk after the upgrade to 4.1.0, I am now getting "no mtree file" for all packages on my system. These errors did not occur prior to the upgrade, and I upgraded no other packages. Does this indicate breakage? How should I fix this?

    So this is not breakage that I can fix on my end, then?
    I looked at the libalpm source for information about mtrees, it looks like they are used to provide package integrity validation, but it's possible I'm wrong since I only read a small part of the code on mtrees. I'd appreciate information about what they are and what issues lacking them could cause.

  • Upgrade all [solved]

    So far, I have ftp installed the base packages off the 0.7.1 base install iso. Now that I have a working system and have configured dhcp, I would like to ftp install all packages in all categories. Is there a pacman command for that?

    If you need something to auto install on fresh installs, I use also a script (like ralevz's one but a bit more complicated )
    install-pkgs

    CONFIG_PATH="/home/wael/bin"

    if [[ ! -f $FILE1 ]]; then
    echo -e "File ${FILE1} does not exist!"
    exit 1

    # Remove any comment line or in-line comments
    for i in `sed -e "s/(.*)#.*/1/g" -e "s/^#.*//g" $FILE1`; do
    PKGS="$PKGS $i";
    done;
    # Sort packages in alphabetic order...
    PKGS=`echo $PKGS | sed -e "s| |n|g" | sort | uniq`
    # Begin !
    echo -e "I will install :"
    echo $PKGS
    echo -e "Continue? [y/n]";
    read enter;
    if [ "$enter" == "y" ]; then
    pacman -S --noconfirm $PKGS

  • Just upgraded... problem!

    New user here. I just tried upgraded to the latest version of iTunes. However, I remember reading about the troubles that people have had once upgrading. So I cancel about halfway through. This is where my troubles begin. When I cancelled, my computer froze so I did ctrlaltdelete. Now, when I tried opening iTunes, it said "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes." So do I need to uninstall iTunes and iTunesSetup completely from my computer and reinstall? If I do, will I lose all the music I have on my iPod presently when I connect it to my iTunes?

    I've waited it for about 15 minutes, it didn't move on. So i did ctrl+z to break. Then i tried to update again. But it gives an error which is:

    kweckstrom I'm still a little confused you claim to have been building computers since computers were practically invented but you coulden't figure out how to get a new 939 board up and running reliably?? It's really not that hard.. not like the P90 (the pentium that didn't run)
    1 you check for compatability,
    2 you buy your parts,
    3 you put it together..
    4 it runs.
    First of all, you should read an entire post before replying. You must not have read it, because I obviously DID figure it out.
    If you look at the compatibility list for the MSI board, it's abysmal. They test VERY few modules, and they haven't tested anything newer. Newer modules (like the newer Corsair XL's or Micron Ballistix) remain untested, and aren't likely to BE tested "officially". The Corsair 3200LLPT's worked fine in my P4 rig. They worked fine on the Gigabyte 939 NF3 board. One can reasonably expect that they would have worked fine on the MSI, after all it's the same chipset.
    But no, they didn't.  Not even after upgrading my power supply. Yet if I slap all this stuff together on the gigabyte board, all was fine and dandy, even on a PS that only delivered 18A on +12v.
    When I tried out the ballistix, I ran into even worse problems, even after ignoring SPD and upping voltage to it's rated 2.8v. But after upgrading my Power Supply, those problems went away and the system is now rock solid and stable.
    I'm an older guy with a wife and 2 kids, not to mention a full-time career as a network engineer. I don't have tons of nights and weekends to work through nagging compatibility or stability issues. That's why I say I wouldn't put myself through that mess again.
    Quote
    If your buying enthousiast grade parts expect to do a little research first because it's a fact there are more untested parts and there will be some incompatabilities but it's absolutely no different than any intel platform of the same age..
    Maybe you should have had someone with a little more time and skill build a system for you??
    Then you may have been able to aviod these PEBCAK errors lol
    Taking the high road, I see
    You should actually read my post next time. I solved the problem long ago. I'm simply saying that this platform is an annoying one because there are tons of incompatibilities that lead to stability issues. That's fact, and you aren't much of an engineer if you dispute it.
    What you say about intel systems of the same age is completely untrue. You'd have a hard time finding an intel board that's incompatible with DDR2 by any specific vendor. You'd also have a hard time finding any intel boards that have quirks with PCI Express cards. You'll also have a hard time finding any Power Supply compatibilities with LGA775, because a specific type of power supply is required (dual-rail with PCI-E headers). Sorry, you're wrong here.
    On the Athlon64-939, out of the gate you'll have problems with certain hardware.
    Take the Geforce 6800's.... The 6800's don't require 2D and 3D clock speeds to be identical on a P4 system. The bios by default doesn't normalize clock speeds for 2d and 3d, because a 425mhz 2D core value uses power needlessly and doesn't make much sense. But if you're on the Nforce3 platform, you're FORCED to set them identically or your 3d games will stutter and eventually freeze.
    There's people with issues on Nforce3 using Fast Writes. Some people have to disable them. You simply don't need to do this on intel.
    There's people with issues using Audigy cards (the original Audigy 1). They cause BSOD's. This doesn't happen on Intel systems. They work fine there. (Audigy 2 is unaffected).
    If someone's doing research into problems regarding the Athlon64 platform, i'm not going to blow sunshine up everyone's butt. I'm going to tell it like it is. I'm not married to any specific vendor, and i'm not someone who's going to insult someone's system building or research skills because he ran into problems with his latest build.
    These problems are VERY real, and if you read this board it's LOADED with people who are having issues with stability. You shouldn't be quick to blame their research or skill with a screwdriver.

  • Pkg not in sync db (problem solved)

    What does the subject statement indicate to the user attempting to download a given pkg?
    Is it that the pkg is not available for download from arch ?
    Is it that the users package base does not include the requested package type?
    I have attempted to download the latest kdelibs pkg and received the subject reply.

    Sarah;
    Pleased to hear from someone on this subject.
    Be aware that the time you refer to .."some time" is very indefinite.
    I have maintained arch via -Syu daily for all of recent months, at least three.
    I have received information from two others experiencing the same problem.
    The package in question, at least the two I have identified, are resident in my pacman cache.
    I seldom use -S for anything certainly not for upgrades!
    I have had two kernel upgrades with no problem.  I have cloned my HDD to another with partimage.  It contains the same problem with kde.
    I have installed all upgrades for ...pacman...
    From what you state the DB is the pkgs in my /var/cache/pacman/pkgs.  These contain the upgrade kde pkg and...the previous package as well.  This indicates a problem with pacman since attempts to download the subject pkgs separately produces the error ..not in sync database...
    Where in the man pacman does it define a time limit as you suggest?
    If the answer is not well defined ...such as "some time"..it isn't something to hang my hat on.
    Next question...since the pkg is indeed in my computer..was it really loaded into the operating system by pacman?  If not, why not?

  • How to force reinstall of all packages

    Hi:
    How can I force reinstall of all packages of my system without have physical access to the server?
    Can i do this with YUM?
    Please help,
    Regards
    Ricardo

    Rather than reinstalling everything how about verifying installed packages to see what changed, which would allow you to isolate a problem - I think.
    I have never done it but apparently there is yum-verify. Unfortunately I do not have OEL available right now to test it...
    http://linux.die.net/man/1/yum-verify
    To verify the binaries that are in a bin directory, use:
    yum verify --verify-filenames='*bin/*'
    To verify all include files, Eg. for multilib problems, use:
    yum verify-all --verify-filenames='/usr/include/*'
    Does this work?

  • Overheating the laptop - Ati driver problem (SOLVED)

    Hi ppl.
    I have Acer Aspire 5732 Z laptop. Intel Pentium processor T4400 2.2 GHz. Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512 MB VRAM, 15.6", 3 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD.
    I successfully solved all the problems during the installation, but this one I can not handle. The laptop is HEATING too much. I also have Ubuntu 9.10 on the other partition and its all fine. Its working on the temperature of ~46 C. And my Arch is working on the temperature of ~60 C. So its about 15 C difference between Ubuntu and Arch. Way too much.
    Arch is running in KDE mode. Have to add that I installed all KDE packages. Maybe the cause of this problem ?
    I am using the proprietary Ati Radeon driver. I tried to change it with open source Ati driver but Xorg refused to configure again (gave me a blank screen).

    acpi-support is blacklisted because I installed it from AUR and didnt managed it to work. Its just saying "no permission" during the boot. I actually installed it because I read that its Ubuntus Acpi management. ~ I repeat Acpi is working fine on my Ubuntu.
    I can also show my laptop-mode configuration files - if needed.
    I am a newbie for Arch but I rlly done my best on this issue as I want to use this system. I think its great and highly configurable and I just love the fact its a rolling distro. But I cant use it overheating.
    So, please help.

    I am using lmsensors on Arch and some kind of panel sensor on Mint, but its ok for sure. Few minutes ago I checked temperature on Arch and it was 56 C. Then I rebooted and when I logged into Mint it was 56 C. But few mins later temperature normalized to 45 C in Mint. After lsmod I logged into Arch again and temperature raised to 54 C.
    So its Arch problem for sure.
    @hokasch
    I am not sure about noise level of fans. Sounds similar to me. But maybe its a fan problem. I know its sometimes loud and sometimes silent. Probably depends on the system temperature. Maybe Arch cant control it normaly. Is there any kind of software that is used for fan speed ?

  • Simple (not for me!) package problem.

    I was hoping someone could help me with this one! I guess its pretty simple, but this is the first time Ive tried to make a package.
    I have an app like so:
    theApp\testPiece.jsp
    theApp\WEB-INF\classes\sql\
         piece1.java
         piece2.java
    Both piece1 and piece2 have "package sql;" at the top.
    piece2.java references piece1.java. I can compile piece1.java no worries. However, If I have piece2 in theApp\WEB-INF\classes\ directory it compiles, if I have it in the sql directory it says "cannot resolve symbol".
    piece2.java has "package sql" at the top, so shouldnt it be able to see piece1? How come it only sees it if its in the parent directory?!
    Also if I have it in the parent directory, I can not reference it as sql.piece2... Is it a class path thing? if so, what should the javac statement look like? Ive been searching this forum for hours, and I keep finding variations on my question, but I am really stuck! Please Help!!!
    Thanks,
    nmoog

    Hello nmoog,
    I've only been using JavaBeans and packages for about a year, but saying that 2 years ago before I started university programming was a foreign concept altogether.
    I do not mean to be condescending, but I doubt you'll find much with respect to packaging and compiling on the Sun site. Perhaps if you look at the Java tools documentation in your SDK distribution. Thats what I use to read to figure out compiling and package instructions:
    C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\docs\tooldocs\tools.html
    or
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/tooldocs/tools.html
    if you don't have the documentation on your hard drive.
    In particular read the parts about javac.
    Reading it myself, I realise you have to specify packages like a normal path name when compiling - you will understand when you read it.
    It is trivial, but at the same time it is a major hinderence to your progress. Once you get past it, I reckon you'll pick up the pace of programming quite quickly. Don't overlook the tutorials, they are the best source of information for learning - while these forums along with Ask.com and Google are the best means of problem solving.
    What web-container are you using? I am currently using Resin, but I may switch to Tomcat at some point in the future. Read the documentation for the web-container you are using. They have their diffences, but they use WAR web-archives and these all have the same structure:
    Lets say your web application is called project. Arrange it like so:
    project - contains html and jsp files
    project/WEB-INF - contains java (source) files, i think
    project/WEB-INF/classes - will contain class files
    project/META-INF - contains the archive manifest
    Treat JavaBeans like you would any other java or class file - they are nothing special. Run the following instructions on the command-line:
    C:\project\WEB-INF>javac -d classes <list of all your java files>
    C:\>jar cvf project.war -C project .
    Now simply place project.war in the webapps folder of your web-container, and start your web-server.
    Assuming you haven't changed anything in you resin.conf or web.xml file browse to
    http://localhost:8080/project
    and your index page should be retrieved automatically as if you browsed to
    http://localhost:8080/project/index.jsp
    I don't know if this is more or less than you wanted to know, but I hope it has been of some use.
    I'm watching so hola if you wanna ask anything else
