Zen Micro Photo Price Reduct

from http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news.php?newsId=22
"Creative has announced a price reduction for its Zen Micro Photo player that puts it up directly against the Apple's iPod nano.
The announcement follows Creative?s foundling CEO and Chairman Sim Wong Hoo?s comments last year at the launch of the Creative Zen Vision:M launch that the company is going to be more aggressi've in the MP3 player market, the company today has lowered the price of its Zen MicroPhoto player.
Priced to compete directly against the iPod nano, the 8Gb MP3 player will be reduced from ?99.99 to ?79.99 from today.
In a press release sent to Pocket-lint, Creative was keen to point out that ?you can get an 8GB award-winning Creative MP3 player for the same price as a 4GB iPod Nano - twice the capacity, with quality and value for money?"
I know you can already get the micro photo for that price in some places, but hopefully (since im going to be getting one soon), this will mean the shops which are already selling it for cheaper than RRP, will be able to reduce their prices further.

following up to this
I've just seen the microphoto for ?65 at dabs.com (uk) and ?60 at ebuyer (uk). While dixons and currys are still selling it for ?200 in stores! lol.
good news for me and anyone else who wants it.Message Edited by WelshBluebird on 0-3-2006 0:42 PMMessage Edited by WelshBluebird on 0-3-2006 0:42 PM

  • 6GB Zen Micro Photo same price as 30GB iPod pho

I do like Creative, but I do not understand why Creative has been suggesting that their new Zen Micro Photo will be priced at US$350. That is a full hundred dollars more than the current 6GB Player, and the same price as the iPod Photo with more than 3x the storage and a larger screen. Also, a color screen Dell MP3 is available for $200.
Maybe Creative is planing another price mark-down: lowing the price of the current micros into the $50 range and putting the Zen Micro Photo in the $250 range.
Anyway, I was just curious on what your opinion was. Would you buy the ZM Photo 6GB for $350 or for the same price, the 30GB iPod Photo Why do you think the ZM Photo is priced so high?

Well I'm only guessing, but I think we'll see a price drop in line with the other Micro price dro

Creative so far have been pretty quick to get their prices in line with Apple etc. I can't see things changing. I think the initial pricing for the Micro Photo was before the recent price dro

  • Help with my Bran-New Creative Zen Micro Photo. [Questi

<EM>If you don't want to see the backing of my whole story skip to the bold print at the bottom!</EM>I also want you to know I read the FAQs and searched through some topics like this, but haven't found any asking my question.First of all, I'm new to the forum, but I've been researching Creative's Zen for a long time now. I kept observing each one closely before I purchased a product. I then saw the Zen Micro Photo come out. This one won my attention. I loved this, I quickly searched for reviews and went for the buy for Christmas. I told my dad about it and he was "iffy" on the price, but it was better then the iPod in my opinion.Christmas day came and I opened it. Right away I checked everything out I knew a lot about the menu already and all, but not really how to control it. I checked to make sure everything worked. All systems were go. After listening to the defaults (which I loved) I went to go install the software. I already had Media Player 0 and Adobe, oh and I didn't want the freakin AOL toolbar! Lol, so I installed everything else. It took forever, but I hooked it up and I installed the drivers, but as soon as I plug in the USB connector I see: "A HIGH-SPEED USB device has been plugged into a LOW SPEED USB port. After that, I switched USB ports, btu I got same message. I hit the X and then tried to charge. I got the Lightening Bolt, but no dimming of lights. I found out that this computer is not letting me install any service packs, I'm confused about that.My question:Is there anyway I can charge this mp3 player and download music onto my Zen Micro Photo without Service Pack ? Or did I just pay $250 for a really cool glowing mp3 player to be used as a paperweight? (I love this Zen and I ran the battery dead hoping that would make the charging easier).Help?
    My Specifications:
My Mp3 Player: Zen Micro Photo (Black)What I tried: Switching USB ports and re-installing Service Pack Software: Not sure how to determine firmware without installing something. I'm on a XP Professional and I'm using the Creative Media Source and Creative Media Toolbox

Thank you DM for responding. I am expecting problems, but it still won't allow me to charge the Zen Micro Photo or even use the Creative Media Source. I can't upload any songs or any contacts on it. I haven't uploaded anything yet, but it's not reading the USB device. When I run Creative Zen Micro Photo Media Explorer I get this message at the top of the screen: "The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen MicroPhoto to the computer. I can't organize anything or add songs... so it just makes all the programs I downloaded useless and my Creative product unusuable.ONe thing it does do though... whenever I plug in my Zen MIcroPhoto to the USB it turns it on and glows, but only shows my battery at the top with one red line and the green lightening bolt filling the battery up.After leaving it like this for two hours the green moves, but the red bar stays the same size.

  • Zen Micro Photo bugs need to be worked out - firmware update comi

    Hi,
I've had my Zen Micro Photo 8gb for a month & have discovered some interesting quirks: first, I don't believe mine is defecti've, though I've had problems. I have encountered freezing on both the "Zen Microphoto" logo and "rebuilding library" screen; I scoured this forum and the Knowledge Base for answers, trying all that seemed applicable?- I tried disk cleanup and reboot (leading to rebuilding library freezes), reformats & carefully reloading the latest firmware?a couple of times. I've drawn some conclusions:?) Mediasource software is not working for me; when I switched to using only Windows Media , most problems went away.2) For whatever reason, "rebuilding library" can only be accomplished while my Zen is connected to the computer - should this be the case?3) It seems like the times my screen freezes on the "Zen Microphoto" logo I may have held the "on" switch to the side a little longer than necessary; I'm wondering if this is happening because I'm holding the switch on a little too long?Anyway, I love the size, look and sound of this player, so I hope to keep using it. NOTE: can anyone from CREATIVE tell me if there will be future firmware updates? Thanks

  • Zen Micro Photo Sighting in U

    Greetings:
Just saw an article on DAP Review (http://www.dapreview.net/news.php) supposedly showing pictures of a Zen Micro Photo taken at a BestBuy in Florida. The article also reported order listings for the Micro Photo on several U.S. based web sites.
I did a quick "Froogle" on Google (couldn't resist...GRIN) and <EM>lo and behold</EM> there were 4 pages of listings for the Zen Micro Photo. None of the sites claimed to be shipping the Micro Photo and prices ranged from $249 - 268 U.S. A few of the sites included:
    Buy.com</LI>
    J and R Music, and</LI>
    Crutchfield</LI>
The Crutchfield site listed an estimated arrival date of <EM>November 7</EM>.
Any official response from Creative? Has anybody in the U.S. acquired a Micro Photo from a U.S. supplier?
If there are people in the U.S. who have a Micro Photo, how about posting a couple of "real world" photos. And, as a sidebar, a couple of questions:
I've seen some comments on the screen being dim (or not as bright as expected). Can anybody confirm or debunk?</LI>
I've read reports about no music while viewing pictures. True or False?</LI>
Anybody using SUBSCRIPTION music on their Micro Photo If you are, can you see album art while a track is playing (like the Apple nano)?</LI>
Any information, feedback, etc. will be appreciated!

    * I've seen some comments on the screen being dim (or not as bright as expected). Can anybody confirm or debunk?
I set the screen contrast to 80 percent. In normal office lighting, pictures appear crisp and bright enough. In total darkness, looking at the screen won't hurt my eyes either. OLED rocks!
    * I've read reports about no music while viewing pictures. True or False?
    Unfortunately this is true.
    * Anybody using SUBSCRIPTION music on their Micro Photo If you are, can you see album art while a track is playing (like the Apple nano)?
Unfortunately again, album art is not displayed.
Overall I'm very happy with Zen Micro Photo. The only complain is that the radio is mediocre at best.

  • Zen Micro Photo gets a boost

    ...8GB @ $249 coming this September / October:
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,895,847705,00.asp
This will give the YPod Mini 6GB a major run for the money. Looks like Creative is starting to get a bit more serious (and adult) about fighting the DAP Wars.

    jasperchc wrote:
i reckon the zen micro is gonna get a major price cut after the released of the zen micro photo.
Ya, i was thinking the same thing. I was saying to myself, hey, i should get a micro once they go down in price. but then i realized i'd want the photo capabilities and would want the 8GB photo version.
I guess its a good thing. people can get a nice photo micro. and people can get a cheaper normal micro.

  • Zen Micro Photo (batter

Does anybody knw anything about if the battery will last longer or be removable on the photo. will there be any new option (specs?). When is coming (i hope soon) or Ipod mini. I CANT WAIT!

    mrsonsai,
I hope that Creative will change the pricing of the Zen Micro line to this:
    5GB Micro: $40
    6GB Micro: $60
    4GB Photo: $90
    5GB Photo: $20
    6GB Photo: $230
This is of course if Creative will still make a profit selling the Micros at those prices. I mean, with all the competition in the mp3 market those prices may even be average. But I do not expect for the Zen Micro Photo to be priced the same as the iPod Photo. That would be a bad move on Creative's part.

  • Creative zen micro photo

i have a creative zen micro photo 8 gb and every time i plug it into my computer to put songs on it the player jams at the docked screen. i have tryed it on many computers. i try looking for some up dates. i dont have a clue what is wrong with it. has anybody had simlar problems?

I had a zen micro, and i have a zen microphoto and a zen sleek photo. dont listen to the box, its dumb .
the zen microphoto works with any computer i plug it into. if you dont have windows XP then you can get songs onto it with xnjb(for macs at wentnet.com) or use libptp2 (just google it for windows) and DONT INSTALL THE CDs IT COMES WITH. mainley because they wont work on anything but windows xp anyways.
so feel safe, i was worried too but you can get a microphoto and put any song on it. it doesnt matter were you got the song, as long as its mp3 or wma files. kazaa, napster, itunes, musicmatch, illegal or leagal it dont matter at all. you can put anysong that you can get your hands on, dont worrie.
if you use a mac, you gotta change your songs into mp3 because itunes uses aac files.
you can put songs on your zen microphoto, but you cant put photos on easily. even so, i dont put photos on my zen microphoto.
i just got it because its a beautiful player with 8GB and for the same price as the evil and stupid ipod nano with a crapy 2-4GB storage, let alone the fact that the battery cant be replaced on nanos because they are all-sealed-up.
feel free to get one nomatter what the box says because i got one on both windows 98 and mac os x and the box is wrong. works fine.

  • Zen Micro Photo firmware 1_20

Hi, i have some problems upgrading from my current firmware .0.0 "Zen Micro Photo"
to the firmware .20.0, i have downloaded the program that sould upgrade the firmware.
    and i followed the instructions,
Download the ZenMicroPhotoP4S_PCFW_LB__20_0.exe file into your local hard disk.
Connect your player to your computer.
Double-click the firmware update file and follow the instructions on the screen.</LI>
    easy right ?
well it wont work when i double-click on the firmware upgrade file, it starts the program, and i can se that my zen micro photo, goes out of docked mode, and then the upgrade program tells me this message: Your player is not connected, please connect your player.
and let me tell you.. my zen microphoto works just fine accept this firmware stuff.
the only thing that also bugs me, is that the MTP dossent work under win2000, my work computer runs 2k, oh and why cant it just recharge when my computer is closed. theres 5v DC output on the USB anyways. why does it need the software to recharge ?
? Its all greek to me ! ?
does anyone know how i can solve this problem(s) ?

I run windows XP pro . sp2, its quite strange.. it should work. ! **bleep** IT SHOULD WORK ! :smileyindifferent: , and the wirld thing is. i also try'ed it on another windows XP machine at work.. and it didient work there either. im beginning to question if this is the product for me. its realy sad though, i love the zen design.. not to mention the price.

  • [Zen Micro Photo] Stuck in b

My Zen Micro Photo gets stuck in the bootscreen. When I turn my Zen on it says "Creative" and after a couple of seconds "Zen Micro Photo". While "Zen Micro Photo" is in my screen it does nothing. I tried to take out the battery and turn it on again, but still nothing. Only after a couple of hours it starts working again.
It als doesn't connect properly with Windows XP.
The problem started a couple of days ago when I activated the removable harddri've mode on the Zen to connect it to Windows 2000.
Should a reload of the firmware help?

See the section "My Zen is not behaving properly, won't startup, or goes into rescue mode. What should I do?" in the FAQ.

  • SOLUTION - Zen Micro Photo Stuck in Recovery M

My Zen Micro Photo got stuck in recovery mode after I followed Creative Labs Technical Support suggestions. They had me do a Clean Up, a Format All a Reload Firmware and a Reboot. After doing this my unit was stuck in Recovery Mode. They then had me load the latest firmware. v .3.0, from a PC connection and I found that it worked fine, but doing the above steps put me back into Recovery Mode hell. So I did some testing.
I loaded firmware version .20.0 from my PC thinking the problem might be in the firmware version. Doing the steps they had asked me to do caused me to be in Recovery Mode Hell, so again I loaded firmware from my PC.
This time I went through each item one at a time and rebooted after each. Clean Up/Reboot, Format ALL/Reboot and Reload Firmware/Reboot. They all booted normally except when I did a Reload Firmware.
Next I loaded firmware v .3.0 to my unit again and did the same test. Again it put me in Recovery Mode Hell after I selected Reload Firmware from the Recovery Mode screen.
Conclusion DO NOT LOAD FIRMWARE FROM RECOVERY MODE. If you have to load firmware at all, do it from your PC connection. I'm going to copy this into the VERY LONG message I have had with Creative Labs Technical Support over the past 5 days and let them know what I have found. I hope this helps others to fix their Micro Photo.

I am having a similar problem. I am stuck in recovery mode and my PC won't recognize the MP3 player at all? I have rebooted, cleaned up, formatted, pulled the batt, etc. Finally I pulled the battery for longer than 30 seconds and that seemed to fix the problem. We will see.

  • Need help with Zen Micro Photo: It stays in recovery m

Just recently, my zen micro photo has been staying in recovery mode. I have tried all of the four options available? to me in recovery mode. .) Clean up 2.) Formatt All 3.) Reload Firmware? 4.) Reboot. When I try "Reload Firmware". It doesn't really "reload". All it does is erase the current firmware, which it has done several times. My computer doesn't really realize the player. It doesn't allow me to acess my songs, which have already been deleted. It says the "Player is not connected". At first, I thought I needed to charge. I charged it to maximmum. The battery is "FULL". Also, the firmware update doesn't recognize the player either. Whenever I select the reboot option, my player reboots to recovery mode. This does no good, as I have tried all of the available options in recovery mode, and they have done no good. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.Message Edited by Damaniscool on 04-2-200707:29 PM

do you hear a sound from the hard dri've like it's stuck? this is common. if so, please search this forum for "hard dri've whack" or "percussi've repair".

  • Using Zen Micro(Photo) with plain Explo

Is there a possibility to copy MP3 files simply by drag-and-drop with the Windows Explorer to the Zen Micro(Photo) so that the files are treated as MP3 and NOT as simple data files? Technically it is quiet simple to do this by using the hard disk of the Zen as an extra hard disk in Windows. Even the cheapest USB-stick based MP3-player can do this. Why not a Zen (or the iPod competition)?
I refuse to use any specific software to copy my self ripped MP3-files because I know that that software (Creative, iTunes, even Windows Media Player and other) changes things during the file transfer and I don't want any change in the MP3 files, not even a single bit!
I want to buy a Zen Micro Photo (8 GB, color screen), but I refuse to do it as long as it is impossible to crag-and-drop my MP3 files simply thru the Windows Explorer.

Yeah that's what i always did. I just drag and drop MP3 files directly into my player without using any software whatsoever.
