Zire DOA

I recently placed my old but very dependable Zire in water. Later I discovered it and it's been DOA ever since. Is there any chance of sending it in for repair and having the information that was on it recovered?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.  Sorry to hear the sad news.
Unfortunately, if you did not have your data backed up to your desktop PC, your data is gone.  Once it loses power, the data goes << poof ! >>, unlike newer devices which use a "non-volatile" file system which retains data even in the case of a power loss.

  • Hot sync says Palm Zire has successfully synced but no data (using Windows 7 32 bit)

We have a Win XP desktop on which an older version of Palm Desktop has been working for years and been able to sync with my Palm Zire and my husband's Palm Z22.  Now that we have to decomission Win XP desktop have installed Palm Desktop by Access v6.2.2 and Hotsync v7.0.2 on Win 7 32bit laptop.
My husband has a Palm Z22 and has had no problems setting up user and syncing using Palm Desktop by Access when using Windows 7.  However, although the Palm Desktop has correctly indentified by device as a Zire and hotsync via cable says it completes successfully no data appears on the Desktop.  In reverse, when I add a new contact on Palm Desktop and sync it does not appear on the handheld.
Have tried downloading and installing driver from:
    http://aceeca.com/support/sales-support/downloads/product/drivers-32-bit-usb-windows-driver-for-palm...
However, when I followed the instructions provided with teh 64 bit download my laptop said I already had most up to date driver!
Please help as I rely on my Zire and need it to back up successfully.

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The Aceeca drivers are ONLY for 64-bit Operating Systems.  Since yours is 32-bit, it's not needed.
Try right-clicking on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator".  See if the data appears.
Another suggestion would be to turn off "UAC" or User Access Control.   Control Panel/Users/Turn off UAC.

  • Contabilização de Remessa em doação

    Pessoal,
    Agradeço as ajudas.

  • Hot synch old Zire 72 with new Treo Pro

Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850 (Sprint)

So it's quite simple, but does require a little work.
First thing you need to do is get your data out of Palm desktop and into Microsoft Outlook.
There are two ways to do this
1.) sync your Zire 72 to Outlook
2.) Use a program called pocket copy from www.chapura.com and do a one time transfer of everything automatically for you
Once the data is in Outlook just sync your Pro to the same Outlook profile.

Are you sync'ing the new device to the same username in Palm Desktop as an older device?
If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you sync the device, it saves the device settings, 3rd party apps, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the username folder on the PC. When you sync the new device it copies the contents of the backup folder for the old device to the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings for the new device thus causing erratic behavior of the new device.
    You may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
    XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
    Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
    XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
    Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
Another option is to create a new username in palm desktop, export the data from the current name and import into the new username.

  • Battery and charging issues with a Zire 31

I understand this machine is old and may no longer supported...but mine has just started doing some crazy things.  First...cannot charge using the normal charging device which came with the unit when purchases. It just does not make any connection.  Have been recharing using its USB port through trickle charging.  The unit get charged, but when you unplug from my desktop usb connection, the charge only last about 10 minutes and the machine goes dead again.  All the user manual tells you is how to charge it up...but no advice of what to do if that no longer functions.
Does anyone know if this older Zire 31 can be repaired?

  • Wow.Apple and I both thought computer was DOA!! (Boot Camp Crash)

Ok. Here's what happened. I still can't believe no one at Apple thought of a solution for me...read on.
I was attempting to install Windows XP using BootCamp Assistant when it came to the page directing me to choose which hard drive or partition to install on. I had set up the partition as per the manual. The manual states specifically that you MUST install it as follows:
    "Selecting the Windows Partition
It is very important to select the correct partition when installing Windows so that you
don’t overwrite Mac OS X on your computer.
To select the correct partition for Windows XP:
    m
    Select “C: Partition3 <BOOTCAMP> [FAT32].”
    WARNING:
Do not create or delete a partition, or select any partition other than as
noted below. Doing so may delete the entire contents of your Mac OS X partition."
so..... that partition did not appear and all it said was C:partition. I called the apple store and they told me to cancel the install and reboot. So I did.
Needless to say, this caused major problems. The machine refused to reboot. In fact, all I got was a grey screen with no text, no icons, nothing. I tried to reboot several times. Nothing. I called Apple Care and a guy there talked me through rebooting holding the "c" key. Nothing. Reboot holding option. Nothing. Remove battery and cord hold power button to clear the ram and hold Option/apple/r/p and let it reboot 3 times. then tried 2 times...nothing. By the way, i could get the dvds out by rebooting while holding the trackpad button.
AppleCare guy then told me to try to reboot with the Leopard dvd in. Nothing. Try to reboot with MacBook Pro Disc 1 in..nothing. Had me clear the ram again. nothing.
He then told me that there appeared to be a hardware failure somewhere and most likely my hard drive was fried. Told me to go to my nearest apple store for a consultation. I told him it was ordered online with the upgraded 160gb 7200rpm drive and they don't stock those in the stores. He told me to go to a store anyway.
I am a corporate pilot and spend quite a bit of time on the road...days at a time sometimes. I work on call and cannot make an appointment unless I know I have a day off, like for a doctor or something. I told him this and he put me on hold.
Apple sales rep comes on and states that she is sorry for my troubles and that they will ship me out a brand new MacBook Pro.....as soon as they receive a tracking number from fedex that my old one is in their system on the way back to them. I was happy with this result and kudos to Apple for such great customer service. She said it was diagnosed DOA and that I was entitled to a new one ASAP.
I was told I would get an email from Apple with a fedex label I could print and use to send back the defective machine. Incidentally, I don't quite understand their exchange program. I asked if she could send the new machine out now and take a credit card number for security. She said that was not possible, but would send the new machine out when and only when I emailed them a fedex tracking number. This pretty much makes no sense because I could just as easily send an empty box with a tracking number to them, but I digress.
Anyway, here is where it gets interesting. Not being a "sit on my laurels" type of guy I went on another Mac we have and started doing some internet searches for symptoms I just experienced. I went through many where people had the same exact problem installing XP and getting weird partition messages and then canceling and getting a dead machine that only showed a gray screen, no icons, nothing.
I came across a posting where a guy had the same problem and someone talked him through a solution: Install OSX on a firewire drive and connect the drive to the computer and let it boot from there. After it boots, use Disk Utility to reformat the internal drive and then install OSx on that drive. Interesting. I did that. And it worked!! I was then able to boot up from the internal drive. I then did a complete erase and install and got Leopard on. I am right now in the process of installing all my other programs.
The machine is not dead, is QUITE alive and seems no worse for the ware. It is purring like a .....well, like a Leopard (sorry, couldn't resist!)
I will NOT be installing XP on this machine this time!!!
I hope that may actually help someone else in this situation.
Take care and sorry for such a long posting.
    Rob

Great post man, this will definitely be benificial to those who encounter the same problems!! It's always great when there is a solution as well

  • Is Palm Zire 21 Software compatible with Palm Pre Plus Cell Phone?

I have an older Palm Zire 21. I love all the features. However, now I am trying to consolidate my Windows (vista) Calendar with my Palm and it is not compatible. I thought I would purchase the newer Palm Pre plus Cell Phone in order to have all of my contacts and calendars on my phone as well as my laptop. Though no one can seem to answer my question: Can I import my contact and calendar from my Zire 21 to the Palm Pre Plus?
Many thanks to who can answer this for me. I greatly appreciate your time and assistant.

webOS (the new Operating System) from Palm does not natively sync to your computer, but to the "cloud" (online servers).
Palm offers a program that will read your Palm Desktop information, and transfer it to Google.  This is only a one-time transfer, and not a sync solution.  See this thread.

  • How to sync my Zire 31 with the palm Desktop Software on a Windows 7 PC

    Hi everybody
My notebook died (vista) so I had to buy a Windows 7 hp model.
Now I could install the software but the PC doesn't recognize my handheld device.
    A sync is not possible.
Can anybody tell me how I can make my device known to the system or do I have to leave the Palm world altogether an buy me an ipod?
I would really like to keep syncing with my palm.
    Thanks in advance.

  • New to Apple, I think my ipod touch is doa

    Hello all
First of all, I would just like to say I am new to Apple and the discussion forums so hello to all!
Unfortunately, my main reason for joining isn't a positive one. I have received an 1st gen 8gb ipod touch from an upgrade offer with a mobile phone network (UK). After a long wait and several complaints to them, they finally sent me the ipod. However, I think the device is dead on arrival.
When I first unboxed it, I did the usual thing: Download iTunes, connect the device to my computer. iTunes informed me that the device was in "recovery mode" and that I must "restore" first to use the iPod. This is where the problem is, the restore process does not complete. I get an "1604" error.
I went to an Apple store, where a kind member of staff attempted to get me started with the device only to encounter the same problem. He pointed out to me that on the same page as the "restore" button in iTunes, the ipod information does not state the device capacity and other information which he found wierd. Could this be clue to whats going on?
The mobile phone network don't want anything to do with my problem as it was a promotional offer, also they no longer have stock of the device and the new ipod is out now. They insist I should take up my problem with apple.
Has anyone had experience with this? Maybe there is someone out there who has also had a doa device. Any advice is much appreciated. What are my options? Am I able to have this device repaired or replaced?
    Many thanks in advance
    -J

    Typical phone service.
Not the 1604, this will lead to error (6).
Had this while trying to update to 2.0.
Congradualations to your phone company for sending you an iPod with an overloaded hardriive incapable of handling a software too advanced for it.

  • Device Driver Software for Zire Z22

I have a Zire Z22 palm unit and am using Windows Vista on a desktop computer. I have loaded the special Palm Desktop Software suggested for Vista. But, when I connect the Palm using the USB cable and hit the hotsync button I get a message that the device driver software must be installed. It tries to search for the needed driver, but doesn't find it, not even on the Palm software disk. Where can I find the device driver software to download so I can hotsync?
    Post relates to: Zire

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
There are more than one kind of Vista...32 bit or 64 bit.  If your Vista machine is 64 bit, you are limited to syncing via IR (infrared) beaming.  Please review the threads "stickied" near the top of the Windows Hotsync board about syncing a Z22 with 64-bit Vista.
If your Vista desktop is 32 bit, you might need to do a clean uninstall and reinstall.  Stickies have that information as well.
BTW, I am moving this thread to the Windows Hotsync board.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit Hot Sync w/Zire 71

The Zire 71 is not a wireless unit so I can not sync via Bluetooth.  I tried infra red, and although the PC and the Zire can connect, they can not communicate.  It seems before we can use an infrared sync, we must sync via cable.  But Vista doesn't recognize the Zire when hooked by cable, and Palm has no fix.
Anyone find a fix to this?  I like the Zire and it's perfect for me, but Palm doesn't support hotsync with the new Windows O/S.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks
    Post relates to: Zire 71

    Thanks for your input ...
When trying to sync, the IR icon in the PC tray shows communication with a device, but nothing further happens.  After 20 seconds or so the Palm times out and displays an error message ..... Connection with PC failed.
I have the Palm set to local and to IR/PC connection.  The Hotsync connections are set to IR, and USB.  There is not a local selection choice in Hotsync connections.
Any further thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks for taking the time to help.

  • Calendar doesn't sync: Zire 31 & Windows XP Pro

Friends, this is similar to another posting but I couldn't understand the replies.  I got a new PC at work, installed my Palm software and successfully synced, except Calendar data did not transfer to/from Outlook.  There were some other oddities too, noted below.
Here is the sync log I got last week:
    OK Quick Install
    Outlook Notes
    - Recovery Sync
The Outlook conduits have been upgraded from a previous version and the first synchronization was successful.
    OK Outlook Notes
    Outlook Calendar
    OLERR:0D-000F
    OLERR:0D-0004
    OLERR:0D-0001
    - Recovery Sync
    Outlook Calendar synchronization failed
And here is one I got this morning:
    OK Quick Install
    OK Note Pad
    OK Tasks
    OK Memos
    OK Photos
    OK Calendar
    OK Contacts
-- Backing up Saved Preferences to C:\Program Files\palmOne\HublerE\Backup\Saved_Preferences.PRC
    OK Backup
HotSync operation completed on 04/16/07 10:41:10
    Still, no data transferred.
Other oddities: there was an error message at some point about several appointments from 1970 and 1971 (which of course don't exist); and the Contacts categories that I had set up on my handheld were wiped out and replaced with the factory defaults.  Any contact that was in a category that I'd created myself is now "unfiled."
    Thank you.

to have palm desktop work, you must install it on the account that you are going to sync it with, and that account must have administrator privileges, fast user switching is located in control panel, select classic view, and double click on user accounts click on "change the way users log in and out" then un-check"use fast user switching!

  • Not Recognized in iTunes Win/Mac - Early 4g Disappointment - DOA

I came home to find my package waiting for me on my doorstep today. Excitedly I opened the box and saw the beautiful packaging and my excitement grew. Little did I know the unboxing would be the last good thing I experienced.
After a few pictures of the phone and the unboxing I plugged it into my MPB and only the Apple logo appeared. I initially thought the battery might be low and let it sit for a few hoping for it to start up. Shortly there after I noticed the apple logo to be cycling on and off repeatedly about every 10-15 seconds. I thought maybe it was a bad connection so I tried a reboot to no avail. Changed cables...no dice there either...At this point I am getting worries that I have a bad unit. MY first thought was that I was doing something wrong. I tried a hard reset but that didn't work either.
So I broke down and placed a call to Apple support. The first tech I spoke with was a nice female who talked me through a reinstall of iTunes 9.2. Since I am writing this you can guess that it didn't work. I was disconnected from her on a transfer to a supervisor, but quickly recieved a call back thankfully. The next guy begins to troubleshoot this with me but I am disconnected from him after a few minutes. At this point I am getting irritated. I wait a few minutes and don't get a call back so I call tech support back. Well wouldn't you know they guy must have called while i was dialing becuase i heard the VM beep and was disappointed that I had to start the process over. I was never given a case number by either rep at that point and the next person I talk to has no record of my call. I tell him I was at the "supervisor level" already and asked to be transferred. After about a 10 minute hold I get a new guy who tells me that he can't help me at all and wants me to drive to my closest Apple store and they will help me. I live about 30 minutes away on a good day to International Plaza in Tampa and he tries to give me a Genius Appt in 10 minutes. I told him this was not going to happen so I end up being scheduled for 7:40pm. Irritated that I have to make the drive I am hoping they can fix my issue.
I walk in 10 minutes early and attempt to check in for my appointment. She scans her iPad and she can't find my name on the list. She checks a few other screens and still nothing. The guy evidently book my appointment correctly. They do their best to accommodate me and ask what my issue is. I tell them I have this beautiful new 4g and that it is not working. She frowns and pretty much says that they have no equipment nor 4g's in store and they will not be able to address my issue until tomorrow(Launch Day). I tell her this is not acceptable since I just made a 30+ minute drive and was told by the Applecare supervisor that you would fix my issue. She try's to calmly tell me that they can't do anything because their systems don't even recognize the 4g yet. She gets a "Floor Supervisor" or something of that nature, and he says "We have no iPhones in this store and will not to tomorrow" which I know is BS but whatever. One of the techs takes the phone and stares in awe at it's beauty and plugs it into their computer and tries to put it into DFE mode. It eventually errors out and tell me it's DOA and I need a replacement unit.
I pretty much knew that I was at this point but I was hoping they would just swap it out. Again no dice I am told that they DO NOT HAVE UNITS IN THE STORE. Again I call BS but what can I do at this point. They tell me that they can give me a claim ticket and I will have a unit reserved for me and I can walk in with no wait and pickup my new unit at 7am. I ask the guy how can I be sure I will have one. He say's to me in a round about way that he is walking into the back...taping my claim ticket to a 32GB unit when I leave, to the phone that is "not in stock".
So to sum it up I am not a happy camper. I am not mad at the Apple Store they are just doing what they are told. I am more irritated with the lack of help that I got from AppleCare. One thing I forgot to mention was the fact that they should have not even directed me to the Store per the supervisor. Also irritated that I never got a case number initially and I had to even go through that hassle. Lastly I am disappointed that I got a defective unit.
So I thought I would share my early adoption story with you guys.

Soft boot, hold down top button and middle bottom button at the same time, with the iPhone connected to your computer and iTunes will recognize the phone on reboot.

  • Palm Zire 31 sat idle for too long and then my hard drive crashed - I have recovered my palmOne files from the hard drive but don't know how to install to desktop?

Since this product is no longer supported by the manufacturer, I hope that someone out there will be able to help me find a way to get my calendar and contacts restored to the desktop.  My handheld sat unused for a very long time, but my desktop calendar and contacts were current up until my hard drive crashed.  I was able to recover the PalmOne files from the crashed hard drive but all I can see are *.dat files.  When I try to import or restore, the *.dat is not a supported file extension.  HELP!  I have the original installation CD. This question was solved.
    View Solution.

.dat are the actual working files Palm Desktop is looking for - you can't import them.
Just create a user in Palm Desktop and copy the .dat files (that have more than 1k of data) over the existing address.dat and datebook.dat (or calendar.dat, I forget which existed on your device).
