Zynq Ethernet Issues

Hi all,
I have a Zybo Zynq 7000 where I am implementing a custom design in Vivado 2014.4. I am using a version of Ubuntu 12.04 from Xillybus as my Linux distrubution and am having problems getting the ethernet to work.
Here is a snippet of my top level .dts with the relevant ethernet portion:
&gem0 {
local-mac-address = [00 0a 35 00 00 00];
phy-mode = "rgmii-id";
status = "okay";
xlnx,ptp-enet-clock = <0x6750918>;
ps7_ethernet_0_mdio: mdio {
#address-cells = <1>;
#size-cells = <0>;
here is the relevant ethernet portion from the zynq-7000.dtsi
gem0: ethernet@e000b000 {
compatible = "cdns,zynq-gem";
reg = <0xe000b000 0x1000>;
interrupts = <0 22 4>;
clocks = <&clkc 30>, <&clkc 30>, <&clkc 13>;
clock-names = "pclk", "hclk", "tx_clk";
#address-cells = <1>;
#size-cells = <0>;
When I do cd /sys/bus/platform/devices ls, an entry for ethernet shows up as "e000b000.ethernet" so it appears that it is recognizing the ethernet.
When I run ifconfig -a, the only thing displayed is the loopback address information. There is no other entry for an eth0 or anything else.
In my /etc/network/interfaces file, i have the following information (didn't post the actual address/netmask/gateway):
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address xx.xx.xx.xx
netmask xx.xx.xx.xx
gateway xx.xx.xx.xx
dns-nameserver 8.8.8.8
When I do a  /etc/init.d/networking restart, I get the follwing:
"*Reconfiguring networking interfaces...
Cannot find device "eth0"
Failed to bring up eth0"
When I do an ifup eth0, I get the following:
"Cannot find device "eth0"
Failed to bring up eth0"
Just to add, on the board, the LINK and ACT leds next to the ethernet connector light up and blink when the board is powered up, suggesting that it is sending or receiving network traffic, but as I said I cannot connect to the internet.
Can anyone help identify my problem? If you need the output of any other commands or any other information, please let me know. I've tried browsing the forums and trying the suggested solutions from other threads with similar problems, but am not having any luck.
Thank you,
Chris

Once you boot , can you try the command ifconfig to see if the eth0 is seen interface?
If the eth0 is seen, try setting the IP address to it by using the command ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.11 up.
As i expect the board and PC are connected through the ethernet cable, configure your PC IPV4 setting to 192.168.1.10 and the subnet.
If all this is fine, try to ping using the command ping 192.168.1.10 and see what happens.
If you are not able to work with above steps, you may have to verify the dts settings etc.
I see the compatiable PHY details missing in the device-tree.
example device-tree for eth0:
&gem0 {
  local-mac-address = [00 0a 35 00 c0 12];
  phy-handle = <&phy0>;
  phy-mode = "rgmii-id";
  mdio {
   #address-cells = <1>;
   #size-cells = <0>;
   phy0: phy@0 {
    compatible = "marvell,88e1116r";
    device_type = "ethernet-phy";
    reg = <0>;
Hope this helps.

Achutha

  • Mac Mini & ethernet issues

    Hello, i bought a mac mini just a couple of weeks ago and upgraded it to OS 10,7,4.
    it was all running just fine for a start so i made an account for itunes and turned off the computer. But now, the mac mini just does not connect to the internet even when i plug the ethernet cable. I thought it would be a wireless issue but i realized that it happened even by cable.
    I'm a little bit confused about this because the network utility says there is no problem (i can ping and traceroute) but safari doesn't open the page.
    As a matter a fact, the only browser that works is Chrome, which only opens this forum's page and gmail...
    Please help

    No it didn't take me to apple's homepage. However, i can ping and traceroute to it without any problem.
    I have read discussions about similar problems (on wifi) and tried to boot as safe mode.
    Gratefully, it works, i can open every single page... but i still don't understand why does this happen on safe mode and not on the regular mode (i'm not going to log as safe mode every time).
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance

  • Apple TV and Ethernet issues.

    I want to know if it is possible to connect both the apple TV and my macbook pro to ethernet and still be able to use airplay.  I can see the apple tv but for some reason I cannot get it to connect.  When I unplug the ethernet from either of the devices I can connect.  Please help if you can.

  • For the 1000th time... Ethernet Issues...

    I read as many posts regarding this as possible... I just wanted to get all my info together so I can march home and confront the beast....
    My new to me G4's ethernet port is dead. Trying to hook up to DSL via ethernet... Tested it with known good cables, DSL modem, tech support from my ISP (for settings), etc...sooo... I bought a wireless Linksys router and spent 3 hrs on the phone with them... finally got on with the G4 for about 10 minutes then lost all connectivity. Anyhooo... I am sending the router back as advised by Linksys... and trying the ethernet again...
    I thought I would try a few things to revive my ethernet port so after reading yall's wise words I have the following list of to dos...not necessarily in order...
    1. Make sure cords/modems/etc are all working (DONE)
    2. Reset the PRAM
    3. Make sure the cord is plugged in prior to booting the computer
    4. Run the Disk tool utility that came with the computer
    5. Scream, cuss, jump up and down
    6. If all this fails buy a PCI ethernet card...
    Anything I am leaving out?
    Thanks so much!!

    Hello! "finally got on with the G4 for about 10 minutes" would indicate that the port is not dead but could be a connectivity issue. I would get a powered magnifying glass and examine the ethernet port for problems. There can be two common types of problems. One is where an examination of the port reveals that the tiny four wires which are like little flat springs become distorted and they are not all at the same height. (all four should be at the same position) The second situation involves the wires not being bright and shiny in color. They may be bluish in color (usually from voltage spikes) and may be cleaned with a tiny wire brush or possible the edge of a small knife. Tom

  • Wireless/Ethernet Issue

    I have DSL, and when I plug the ethernet cable in to my macbook, I have no issues
    I also have a Linksys Wireless G router, I used to be able to connect to my wireless network. I left home for a month, and when I came back, it won't work
    Under network diagnostics this is what I get
    Airport = Green
    Airport Settings = Green
    Network Settings = Green
    ISP = Green
    Internet = Red FAILED
    Server = Red FAILED
    I don't really know anything about this stuff so I am totally confused, I've googled and fiddled and done everything I can think of
    What the heck is the problem??

    By the way maybelle...
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    Now back to your problem... Not sure what the problem is. We need a lot more information as requested by the previous post.
    Please answer the following as best abs you can so that we can try to assist you in resolving what ever issues you and your Mac are suffering from.
    1. Please up update your profile so that we know what kinda Mac and OS you have as this can help us help you.
    2. You say that the wireless router has been used for years with a notebook (windows I presume), are you now trying to get a Mac attached to the wireless network for the first time?
    3. What exactly is your network not doing? example cannot access internet through wireless, cannot access wireless network at all, getting error messages?
    4. Can you see the router with Airport Utility?
    5. Is the router set to broadcast the SSID (A.K.A. the name of the network)?
    6. Are both your Mac and the router set up for DHCP using wireless.
    If you have any questions about the above please post back.

  • Zynq Linux issue with udev

    Hi,
    I am using "Linux zynq 3.10.0-xilinx". I did checkout of the tag Xilinx v14.7
    I have cross compiled the kernel modules. I am using Zynq Z702 board, I have used the booting file for petalinux on Zynq from the below mentioned site.
    http://www.wiki.xilinx.com/Zynq+14.7-2013.3+Release
    I have created  a character kernel module and a user application communicating to the module using IOCTL.
    I am able to communicate between the application for the first time but when I stop and restart the application the open returns error -1 (Unknown error -1).
    After analyzing I noticed that after closing the application the devvice node for the driver in /dev missing for my kernel module. If i remove the module and reinsert it back the node is created again.
    I have tested the same kernel module and user application on other Linux distribution (Ubuntu 14.04) and I don't see the same problem. The application can be restarted multiple times without any issue.
    I also tested the application and driver with latest kernel version "Linux zynq 4.0.0-xilinx" but issue pervails.
    I would like to know whether udev on Zynq will release the kernel module without doing rmmod when user application stops. Or is there any specific Linux settings which needs to be configured.
    Regards,
    Varun

    OK.  If the 3.17 series worked, I would ask you to try the 3.18 series in the ARCH kernel.  In other words, is it something in 3.18 that is causing your problems?  You can pull it from [testing] and be sure you get any of the nvidia packages from [testing] that you request as well.  You can also downgrade to the last version of 3.17.x in the ck kernel manually on http://repo-ck.com/old/ which is currently 3.17.7-1-ck.

  • Apple TV3 iTunes ethernet issues

    I have been unsuccessfully trying to trouble shoot an intermittent connection/communication issue accessing iTunes with my Apple TV3 via ethernet. The issue is this: I can always connect to my iTunes music library (stored on an iMac) via wifi but connecting via ethernet is hit and miss (usually miss). Sometimes the Remote app on my iPad indicates I need to turn on Home Sharing (it is already on); other times I can connect to my iTunes music library but when I try to play a song nothing happens. Sometimes the song starts playing and then stops about 45 seconds later. Occasionally it works flawlessly.
    The ethernet connection/communication problem has persisted for over a year through several ATV and iTunes software updates. Why not just be happy with a wifi connection? I am assuming that I get a fuller data stream from my lossless files via ethernet than with a wifi connection. (This could be a an erroneous assumption.)
    My Ethernet network runs from my Centurylink supplied Actiontec PK5000 modem/router through a pair of Netgear Powerline adapters to my ATV in an adjoining room.
    Before I take the trouble to run a hard wire ethernet cable through my crawl space direct to the ATV (to trouble shoot the Netgear Powerline part of the system) I am planning to bypass the router side of my Actiontec PK5000 and use an Airport Extreme for both the Ethernet and wireless network.
    Question:
    Is the idea to change over to the AE a reasonable troubleshooting step – assuming the problem might be the Actiontec router? I’m hoping the AE will have better connection technology that will play nicer with my ATV. I plan to switch the Actiontec over to transparent bridging mode and use the AE as both my wifi and ethernet router.
    Changing over to the AE seems fairly straightforward in concept. My wife relies on the network for her job so I don’t want to switch to the AE if it takes me hours of connection troubleshooting while she is tapping her fingers in the background. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Apple TV with Ethernet issues

    Hello all,
    I have had trouble with ATV1 for some time and just when you think you have it licked it stuffs up again.
    I have it connected with a Ethernet cable and it suddenly has decided it will not find the router or connect to the internet.
    I have done all the reboots and restarts i can possibly think of and wonder if any of you have found a solution to this issue or have experienced the same thing.
    One day it works the next it doesn't and there is no obvious reason. When it works its awesome !

    I have seen issues on ATV1 and ATV3 where DHCP leases within the network expire as machines come and go. The ATVs should try and renew their DHCP leases or request a new IP, if the renew fails whenever they are "woken" up.
    In some cases, I have had to watch packets on the wire to ensure whether such requests do happen or not.

  • AppleTV 3 - Ethernet issues

    Just got another 3rd Generation AppleTV - second one in a week.  Works great, however, when I choose to use the Ethernet connection for internet, it starts perfectly and works fine for a few days, and then all of a suddent the connection is lost.  It then will NOT automatically configure TCP/IP address, and as a result,  will only work via WIFI.   I thought the first unit was faulty so I returned it, now I am worried that there is a flaw here, or something wrong.  Anyone else have this issue, or any suggestions??

    Try to assign a static IP address to your AppleTV.
    I had the same problem as you but since I assigned static IP address everything works fine.
    So now I have done that with all my units
    In my router the DHCP range is set between 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.29 and I have assigned 10.0.0.30 to 10.0.0.45 to all my units.
    That way you will never have any conflicts.
    Since I did that nothing has ever lost connection.
    I use an Airport Extreme on my cable modem.
    Hope it helps.

  • Wired ethernet issues

    I'm having problems with wired ethernet on my MacBook Pro. I connect my MBPro up to another machine using a non-crossover cable and it works fine. I disconnect it and hook it up again after a while and it no longer works. I do an ifconfig and see that en0 is inactive. It only works again after I reboot the MBPro.
    Does anybody know how to fix this?
    Evan
    P.S. I also have wireless ethernet running while doing this. But, I doubt that that makes much of a difference.

    There seems to be a number of issues here all centered about the built-in ethernet port. I have had a similar problem with 2 different MBP's. After working with Apple tech support we found it to be a software problem, not a hardware problem.
    This fix may not be applicable to all of the different iterations of ethernet problems listed here, but here is what I did. I moved the file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist. to my desktop. I restarted my computer and the port worked without a problem. If this doesn't seem to fix the problem, you could move the file back to it's original location, or I think you could delete it without a problem.

  • Time Capsule & Xbox 360 over ethernet issues

    I have a Time Capsule connected to my modem, I can access the internet over WiFi on my mac without issues, however when I connect my Xbox 360 to the router via ethernet it will not allow me to connect to Xbox live. What's highly frustrating is that it passes all test apart from the ICMP one. According to some forums, if your receive this then your router is not compatible with xbox live. However this contradicts people being able to connect through their TC on other posts. I can connect to xbox live if I directly plug it into my modem, so it is not anything todo with that side of things.
    Is there any reason why this might be on my TC and how might I go about sorting this problem out?
    Any help much appreciated
    Matt

    Although I also haven't been able to get it working over Wi-Fi yet, I've got it working pretty happily over what is ostensibly ethernet (powerline networking ftw).
    My guess is that the problem you're having is due to your Time Capsule ignoring stuff (as a security measure) that Xbox Live is sending the Xbox, so what I think you need to do is tell your Time Capsule to stop doing that for the Xbox. You do that by getting your Time Capsule to give the Xbox the same IP address every time it connects, and to not block anything sent to that IP address.
    First we need to get the Xbox's MAC address, which you can find either on the back of the Xbox itself, or by going to the System blade on the Xbox Dashboard, selecting Network Settings, Edit Settings, Additional Settings (push the left thumbstick to the right), Advanced Settings, then the MAC address should be displayed.
    Just to be clear, a MAC address has nothing to do with Apple's computers, standing for Media Access Control, and is a quasi-unique code that nearly every network adapter has. We're using it here so your Time Capsule can recognise the Xbox.
    Now you've got the MAC address, open AirPort Utility, select your Time Capsule and click Manual Settings, the Internet toolbar icon, then the DHCP tab. Click the plus button under the DHCP Reservations box, type Xbox 360 (or whatever you want) as the description, and click Continue. Now type the Xbox's MAC address into the MAC Address box, then click the IPv4 box, change the last number from 2 to 35 (so it's something like 10.0.1.35), and click Done.
    Now we have the Xbox getting the same IP from the Time Capsule, we need to tell the Time Capsule to stop filtering stuff that's sent to that IP, to do that, click the NAT tab (inside the Internet section), then "Enable default host at:" and enter 35 as the last two digits (so it matches up with the IP address we put in the IPv4 box earlier). Finally, click Update, and when your Time Capsule has finished restarting, try the connection test on the Xbox again.

  • Ethernet Issue

    I have a 2.0ghz macbook pro, and the ethernet has been previously working on the machine. Recently, the ethernet seems to not functions what so ever. The port won't even recognize when I have my ethernet cable plugged in. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or not. Should I send this in or what other options are there?

    > what other options are there?
    Reset Parameter RAM - hold down Apple/Option/P/R at start up and wait for three chimes before letting go.
    Also, try another cable and make sure it has an active Ethernet device at the other end before plugging into the MBP

  • Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock (2504) - Ethernet issues

    Good evening:
    I'm having issues with my Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock's ethernet port. I've narrowed down to an issue with the docks port by:
    Updated driver to the latest on the Lenovo website and still experienced same issues.
    Changed the cable connecting the dock to the hub. Still had the same symptoms--worked for some time but then it wouldn't work. I'd disable and re-enbaled the device and sometimes that would do the trick. But it would fail in a few hours.
    Connected the cable directly to the DSL modem instead of the hub and no change in behavior.
    Finally, kept my Thinkpad T61 undocked for 2 weeks and used the side ethernet port on the laptop itself instead. That did not experience the same symptoms.
    I am not sure how to proceed. I had issues with my Thnkpad before and Lenovo support really hit me hard in the pocket. Granted, they did a great job fixing it and the turnaround time was VERY impressive but I do not have the money for another out of warranty repair.
    Has anyone experienced similar issues? Or anybody have any suggestions on what else to try?
    Thank you in advance!

    I have the same problem, I think.  Ethernet will not connect through the 2504 Mini-Dock.  Works fine if Thinkpad is not connected to the Mini-Dock and ethernet is connected to Thinkpad.  Kind of ruins the point of having a 2504 Mini-Dock.
    I guess this is not typical Lenovo quality, because it already lasted over 2 years before it stopped working.  That's pretty much a Lenovo longevity record for me.
    Any advice would be welcome, there are refurbished units showing on ebay for ~$25.
    Yes, the "N" in my user name represents "NOT"

  • C40 Ethernet issue

    C40 shows no lan connection . i have already changed cable and factory reset the device but issue still persist. Pl help me out.

    Hello
    When you mean no LAN connection does this mean you plug an Ethernet cable into the c40 network jack and the physical lights on the port don't come up. Just to confirm the C40 has 2 Ethernet ports the 1st one marked in Orange  named "Ethernet" is the Main network jack and is where your cable should be plugged in. The second port is for pairing a TouchPad and can also be used for data but you have to change this in the codec webpage or through ssh/telnet.
    If the lights do come up the most likely reason is an IP or vlan misconfig. You can change this settings through the remote or touchpad that came with the device.If you set it correctly and it does not seem to come up try using DHCP to see if it receives and address and use that to configure it.
    Let me know how this goes.
