Batch importing from an Xcell spreadsheet

Hey all,
Sorry for the long post, but I've been hounding these forums and the cow and have found a lot of great information, just not the last little bit I'm looking for. So bear with me...
Trying to import an Xcell spreadsheet as logging information in FCP. Footage is P2 media (DVCroHD 1080p30) already stored on an external HD (with all file structure intact). Producer has a macbook, so no cool intel based logging software can be used. He is using P2pro, but is apparently unable to change timecode fields - a big drawback if you're trying to subclip.
We've got Larry Jordan's template log, and another one that a friend gave us. Exported producer's log as a tab delimited txt file. Imports into FCP just fine (with the exception of 40 or so blank clips (no name, no reel, duration of 01 frame). Fields are as follows:
*Name Reel Media Start Media End Log Note Description*
The clip name is the (random) number assigned by the camera, the start and end times are accurate & the big old log notes he entered are all there. So that seems good.
I was hoping to batch import those clips from the external HD using our new "subclip" in and out times. I am not seeing a "batch import" menu (am I?) If I drag the clip into the log & transfer window if launches the capture tool and tells me there is no deck present.
If I simply try to "reconnect" the media it balks at the different start and end times - also at number of audio tracks, and frame rates - which makes sense since none of that is in the log file.
If I use the log & transfer tool and cut and paste fields from the txt file, we get exactly what we want. So that's what we've been doing, but you can imagine it gets a little tedious. Tried to import the log file directly into that tool, but didn't find a way to do it.
So to recap:
I can import a funtional (as far as I can tell) log into FCP, but I can't get it to transfer the clips.
And to the questions:
1. is there a batch IMPORT function in FCP and I'm just missing it?
2. Can I import a list directly into log & transfer?
3. Is there a way point the batch capture function/tool to a file?
4. Can I modify the item properties for a logged clip (other than # of tracks - got that one.)
5. Do I just need to knuckle down and cut & paste and stop whining?
6. Is there a really obvious solution I've missed?
Again, sorry for the long post. Shane & David S., you guys have helped me with log & transfer in the past, any thoughts on this one?
Thanks for listening, I'm back to googling and manual perusal...

Mac OS 10.5.5
MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB ram
GeForce 8600M GT Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 Quicktime 7.5.5

New info:
If I make one of the clips that I have imported (using the cut & paste method) offline, and do a batch CAPTURE on that, it does in fact launch log & transfer and retransfers it correctly. If I could modify the logged clip to reflect that, maybe it would work. The "source" field for example. But FCP won't let me modify that field in the logged clip. I'll try adding it to my txt log and report back.

  • How do I batch "import from catalog"?

    Hi,
    I would like to import multiple catalogs simultaneously into one catalog.
    The thing is that I lost my main catalog in a hard-drive failure and my last backup is too old. Fortunately I always "export a folder as catalog" into the original pictures folder, so I always keep starring, color editing, etc.
    What I would like to do now is to import each of these litle catalogs into one new main one, without having to import each at a time, but all simultaneously, which would save me an enormous amount of time.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Luís

    Thanks for you answer Jim,
    I always export each folder as catalog because I keep the originals in a shared network folder, so a coworker can import them over to his main catalog. I don't want him to make changes but just to know which are the starred/labeled ones, and export them with my color/etc editing.
    I think this is not possible with a main shared catalog, because it's impossible to open them from a shared network folder.
    I always use a main catalogue, the problem was really my lack of backup regularly. It would be great if LR give us the possibility of batch import from all those catalogs. "taking the time to import from each of those catalogs" as you say, will be really time-consuming...
    Thanks again

  • DTW batch import problem

    Hi all,
    I've got a problem when trying to batch import from sql statement via odbc:
    "Can not connect to ODBC data source" and then "Can not get SQL handler"
    Manual import is working well with this odbc connection !
    The statement looks like: SELECT ItemCode AS 'Record Key', ItemCode, 'Y' AS 'Properties1' FROM OITM WHERE ItemCode = '4711'
    While manually importing I saved the xml and after that call: dtw.exe -s config.xml
    I used a SQL (Server 2005) Native Client DSN and only set db auth (sa...) and left other properties as default
    Anybody knows this behavior? Is the statement wrong? Or the odbc connection?
    (DTW Version 2005.0.0.29)
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Marco,
    I checked this issue using the 2007A DTW (version 2005.0.30) and the 8.8 DTW (version 88.0.11). I haven't had success.
    The 8.8 version runs without error but did'nt update my test item. If you run it manually, the DTW reports one updated value. If I run it by a command (DTW -S <File>) it runs fine and reports zero successful update.
    I don't know if the DTW is able to run sceduled ODBC updates or not and would hope for an answer to this thread!
    All the best

  • Is it possible to create a form that allows users to import data from an excel spreadsheet

    I have not been able to start my reading on scripting or other livecycle features to be able to try to figure this out but I was wondering if anyone else had ever created a form with this feature or had any ideas of how it would be possible.  Our company currently uses and excel form that would have a variable number of rows of data for each time it is filled out and we would be replacing it with an adobe form.  I would like to know if the users, who will be using the new adobe form in adobe reader, could have the capability to imort the lines from the previous excel form into the new adobe version.

    Hi,
    You can set up a data connection with an Excel spreadsheet. However for the data connection to work for users with Reader, you would need to Reader Enable the form with the LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2.5 (server component). See here for summary: http://assure.ly/etkFNU.
    However if you are just trying to get the existing data into the form, you should have a look at some of Stefan Cameron's posts: http://forms.stefcameron.com/ (try a search). You can start a new form using the wizzard and select import from Excel. This will allow you to paste from your spreadsheet to a new form. This should help set up the data structure/schema, which you can then replicate in a new form. I haven't done this before, but it should be possible.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Can someone help me change the line width of my numbers table, its not set to thin or none and its stuck on .25. its a spreadsheet i imported from excel.

    Can someone help me change the line width of my numbers table, its not set to thin or none and its stuck on pt25. its a spreadsheet i imported from excel.

    MR,
    Apparently the import wasn't a good one.
    The best option at this point might be to start a new table. Insert a new Table, Copy the old table cell range, select the first cell in the new table and Edit > Paste and Match Style. This will throw out all the old formatting. A bit of work, but a nice clean start.

  • Microsoft Word:mac - Batch Import Photos from file

    Hi,
    I have recently upgraded to montain lion and the latest update to the office:mac 2011. I have noticed that my automator workflow is now no longer working. I created a workflow that allowed the batch importing of photos into a document. The workflow works if you run it from within automator but does not work from within word.
    I have also noticed that the sample workflows now no longer work. Very strange. I did some searching on the internet and other people have posted these issues on forums but no one suggested a solution.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks
    Adrian

    You're very close to what needs to be done. Make sure that your new presentation is in a view that shows slide thumbnails (either Navigator or Light Table view). Then, when you select the photos, drag to the thumbnail area. This action will create a separate slide for each photo that was dragged and dropped in the thumbnail area.

  • Batch import lyrics from file

    Hello
    I have collected lyrics over the years. They are written in text files. Is there a way to batch import these lyrics into itunes? or do I have to do it one at a time? I have looked at many of the importer/search apps but none seem to have the capabilities of searching a file folder on the hard drive. Might be missing something here.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    cheers

    In Library Module, select Grid Mode. Select all images you wish to read metadata from. Go to Metadata>Read Metadata from Files
    Similarly, you can edit time for time zone/ AM-PM issues, etc by going to Metadata>Edit Capture Time

  • Spreadsheet imported from excel; sum formula freezes after entering colon and causes forced quit. Adds ok if numbers highlighted?

    Spreadsheet imported from excel. Formula to add columns gives a syntax error as soon as the colon key is pressed and system freezes. However, highlighting the columns works and shows the formula as expected. The system works properly on new sheets!

    Ron,
    In cases of bad behavior such as this, it sometimes helps to close and quit everything and restart the computer. Try that and let us know if the problem persists after the restart.

  • Is there a way to batch import movies from iPhoto?

    I am wondering if there is a way to batch import movies that I have in iPhoto to iTunes?

    As Chenks says... just create a genre for them.... just RT-Click on the home movies (can actually multi-select all of then and do them all at once) and change the genre to "home" or whatever you'd like and then when you go to AppleTV go to Genres > "Home" and they will all appear together there.

  • FB60 batch input from MS Excel file

    Dear experts,
    We want to post regular acquisitions from appr. 200 vendors each month (amounts each month are different). We need to post different vendors to different cost centers, segments and other assignment elements/objects. I suppose that we need to use a batch input by importing a MS Excel spreadsheet, because software where we are tracking those payables makes export just into Excel. In SAP we have separate Vendors Master Data for all 200 vendors. Please help me to create batch input program for this monthly batch postings. How to define SAP field correspondence with Excel cells, and etc.?
    (P.S. I’m quite new in batch input functionalities…)

    Hi Stephen,
    I still not have any responds using LSMW. I tried to use for this <i>Standard Batch/Direct Input Object</i> - <b><i>0100 Financial Documents</i></b> but this object allows to use just t.code FB01, and as you mentioned in your previous message, there no choices to assign Vendor ID field, or Posting Key field. So this option did not pass to me too. Then I found t.code SHDB, maybe it is quite complicated process, but for me it works and I have posted invoices from my 200 vendors. I just convert my data within excel spreadsheet in appropriate manner (rows must be transposed to columns), save it in .txt file and import to SAP within SHDB, and push the button <i>Process</i>. First few times system gave me errors, but there were inaccuracies in .txt file, after little corrections everything started to work.
    I am not sure if t.code SHDB will work for you, because you need to upload your legacy and not current data, but you could try.

    1 - create a java class (Executer.java) for example:
    import java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException;
    import java.lang.reflect.Method;
    public class Executer {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              try {
                   for (int i = 0; i < args.length; i++) {
                        System.out.println(args);
                   Class<?> c = Class.forName(args[0]);
                   Class[] argTypes = new Class[] { String[].class };
                   Method main = c.getDeclaredMethod("main", argTypes);
                   // String[] mainArgs = Arrays.copyOfRange(args, 1, args.length); //JDK 6
                   //jdk <6
                   String[] mainArgs = new String[args.length - 1];
                   for (int i = 0; i < mainArgs.length; i++) {
                        mainArgs[i] = args[i + 1];
                   main.invoke(null, (Object) mainArgs);
                   // production code should handle these exceptions more gracefully
              } catch (ClassNotFoundException x) {
                   x.printStackTrace();
              } catch (NoSuchMethodException x) {
                   x.printStackTrace();
              } catch (IllegalAccessException x) {
                   x.printStackTrace();
              } catch (InvocationTargetException x) {
                   x.printStackTrace();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
    2 - create a .bat file:
    @echo off
    java -cp C:\Downloads\Marcxml\marc4j.jar; C:\Downloads\Marcxml\marcxml.jar; Executer %TARGET_CLASS% %IN_FILE% %OUT_FILE%3 - use set command to pass variable:
    Open MS-DOS, and type the following:
    set TARGET_CLASS=MyTargetClass
    set IN_FILE=in.txt
    set OUT_FILE=out.txt
    Then run your .bat file (in the same ms dos window)

  • Import From CSV File statement runs forever, no error, does not finish

    Hello,
    I am trying to import a CSV file in a JAVA program, with the following statement:
    IMPORT FROM CSV FILE '/debug/testdatabase/FILE.csv'
    INTO "JOSEPH"."TEST_TABLE"
    WITH COLUMN LIST IN FIRST ROW
    RECORD DELIMITED BY '\n'
    FIELD DELIMITED BY '\t' ERROR LOG '/debug/testdatabase/file.err'
    THREADS 10
    BATCH 10000
    I have two HANA instances on different machines A and B:
    Both machines run HANA version 1.00.74.00.389160 (NewDB100_REL), while the OS is
    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.1 on machine A and
    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.2 on machine B.
    The statement above runs fine on machine A and the rows are imported properly from JAVA as well as when executed from HANA Studio SQL console.
    If I copy the file to machine B and try the exact same statement with the same file, it does not finish (neither from JAVA nor from HANA Studio SQL console). There is no error either. It cannot be cancelled, only a HANA restart stops the statement. Also the sample file I use has only 2 rows, and memory does not seem to be a problem.
    I seem to have a similar problem to the one described here, but the answers there do not help me: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3396582 I specified the record delimiter, and I used a python script to check for any strange characters that are not supposed to be there, but didn't find any.
    If I copy the file to my windows PC and use the "File Menu -> Import -> SAP Hana Content -> Data from Local file" function, it imports the file correctly into B, but I need to be able to do it from JAVA.
    Machine A administration view:
    Machine B administration view:
    If you have any idea what might cause this behavior or where I can find more information on this problem please give me a hint.

    Hi Joseph,
    First from the pics, the revision of your SAP HANA instance is 73 instead of 74. Since I have no identical environment, I cannot test it for you. But can you try the simplest scenario? You can create a table with only one column table try to import a CSV file with only one row.
    Best regards,

  • Is there a way to import data in a spreadsheet or text file into Contacts v7?

    Is there a way to import data in a spreadsheet or text file into Contacts v7? I have a list of about 500 people and their email addresses in FileMaker Pro that I can export in a number of formats that can be manipulated. Is there any way to get those contacts into Contacts without entering them one at a time?

    I have answered my own question. I exported the data from a layout in FileMaker Pro containing the required fields as tab separated text. That produced a .tab file that Contacts wanted nothing to do with. However, when I changed the .tab in the file name to .txt, Contacts accepted it as a file to import (File/Import). I then identified the field in Contacts in which the data in each field in the txt file was to be placed and in it went! The trick was changing .tab to .txt in the name of the file exported by FileMaker Pro.

  • Why did IMovie 9 start crashing when trying to import from camcorder

    I have Imovie 8.0.6 and a Panasonic HDC-SD60 camcorder. I have been importing from this camera for a long time, with no problems but now, IMovie crashes whenever I push the import button. I checked and when nothing is connected, the internal camera comes up when I push the import button. I connect the Panasonic first & see it on the desktop & then open Imovie. ANy idea why it keeps crashing?

    Yes,  20 GB is very little - when you import you produce AIC  files which are much larger than the original clips.  Unless you can clear a lot more space (tens of GB) you need an external hard drive to put your iMovie media on.
    This is the  AVCHD file structure you should see from the Finder when you connect your camera like an external drive:
    First copy the clips you want to use from the STREAM folder to another folder on your hard disk.
    Next, you need to convert them from .mts to .mov format using the free program Media Converter.  You can also do batch conversions by dropping multiple .mts files onto its window.  You need to instal the Re-wrap AVCHD for Quicktime - uncompressed Audioplugin.  It is fast since it is not transcoding but simply changing the video wrapper.  The website is:
    http://media-converter.sourceforge.net/
    The resulting .mov clips will import into iMovie (this works for iMovie 9 - I'm assuming it will also work with iMovie 8.)
    Geoff.

  • Issues with importing from excel

    I have been running into a several issues with importing from Excel.
    First my configuration
    I am running SQL Developer ver 1.5.5 Build MAIN-5969
    I am on a Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with Service Pack 3
    I am importing into an Oracle 10g database.
    1. SQL Developer doesn't work on Excel 2007, I have to save all my files into Excel 97-2003 format before I can use them.
    2. If I run into an error loading and stop the process, SQL Developer doesn't release the Excel file and I get a sharing violation if I try to save the spreadsheet without closing SQL Developer.
    3. I have found that I have to set print area to the area I want to work with, otherwise the import wizard tries to keep adding rows.
    4. When using the Import wizard, it keeps adding commas on fields with numerics unless I specify the column in excel as text. Currently the column is formatted as General in the spreadsheet or I can change the wizard format to say the column is an integer, but it actually is just a code field with numeric characters so it may have leading zeroes that I need to keep.
    This might be related,
    I have a column in excel defined as text but only contains numerics. It is of length 4, but the wizard sets a precision of 5 with a datatype of VARCHAR2. If I try to change it to 4, I get an error saying the field is not large enough. Yet, when I do a LEN on the column, it only gives me a 4. I have other fields in the same sheet that a 3 position numeric and 2 position numeric and those are fine. I am thinking this is related to the comma being inserted in a numeric field for anything greater than 3 positions.
    5. Importing excel dates to oracle dates doesn't work. I have to convert the excel date column to text then import as a VARCHAR, then convert to Date once in the database.
    6. The default of nullible is not set on any columns and I have to set them before the import. (I would prefer it set to nullible and I have to uncheck the box to make it not nullible. I would prefer to import all of the data and then deal with the nulls after they have been pulled in)
    7. When I select header columns included it uses that as the column names. Is it possible to do the name length check then? It has bit me a few times where I try to import and forget to check the name length and then I get an error when I start running the import.
    8. If one of the columns to import has all nulls, then the precision comes out to 0 and if it isn't changed an error occurs on import. Could this situation default to a precision of 1?
    9. It would be nice if there was a completion message displayed and a cancel option while running.

    On point 3.
    I have a column in excel that consists of numbers. 4 digit numeric codes. Ex, 1111, 2345, etc
    The column's format is general. It displays as just 4 numbers.
    When I start the wizard initially, the column appears with data as 1,111, 2,345, etc, on the Data Preview screen.
    It determines the precision to be 5 on the column definition screen.
    If I change the precision to 4 then continue, that field will error out when I verify with "not big enough to hold the data in source columns"
    If, I change the excel column to a TEXT column.
    Excel still displays as 1111, 2345, etc
    The wizard then displays the same data 1111, 2345 on the Data Previeiw screen
    Yet, when I get to the column definition screen it still sizes it as a 5
    If I change it to a 4, I get the same error when verifying.
    If I leave them alone as 5, then it processes just fine.
