Changed behavior of home and end button

Hi
I have a problem with the behavior of the Home, End, PgUp, PgDn and the arrow keys. After I upgraded to version 6 they do not work as expected.
I have disabled every extension and the behavior is still the same...
They work as expected in IE8.
I hope someone have a solution.

Make sure NumLk is not engaged, as the Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn keys are often superimposed on the numeric keypad. There should be keyboard light for NumLk.

  • How can I use the "home" and "end" buttons

I have an external apple keyboard (full style, with number pad and all) plugged into my macbook.  However, the "home" and "end" buttons don't function the way I'd like (i.e. they don't go to the beginning or end of a line).
Can I ever get this to work or does it just not function with a laptop that doesn't have that function in the first place.  I'd like to not have to use multiple keystrokes just to get a similar home/end result.
    Thanks!

Not sure why you are charged for calls on this, as standard you would get free evening and weekends and there are packages for unlimited anytime.

  • Home and End Buttons

Hello everyone. I'm a long time Windows user who recently decided to take the plunge and purchase an iMac. I'm figuring things out but one thing that's bothering me is the Home and End buttons on the keyboard. In Windows, pressing the Home or End button takes you to the beginning or end of the line of text that you're typing but in OS X, they take you to the beginning or end of the entire text. This is fine if that's the way it works, but it seems like there's got to be a way to get to the end of a single line of text without clicking there with the mouse or pressing the right arrow key a couple dozen times.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the fast replies! I see what you mean Barney. I was trying to do it in Mail and it doesn't work that way but you're right, in Microsoft Office it does work as I expected. In Windows it's pretty universal so I thought it would be the same in OS X as well. Oh well, it's something I'll get used to I guess.

  • THe home and end buttons

Just purchased a new iMac G5. For the longest time I was working on a keyboard
that had "HOME" and "END" buttons. Very useful for the timeline. Can anyone give me the answer to the keyboard shortcut for those operations on the more condensed keyboards. This answer, for some reason, has been very difficult to find in a google search.
    Thanks,
    D

    Hi,
The home and end keys are the directional arrows on the right bottom of the keyboard and you use the function button (fn) with them. In other words fn home or fn End.

  • 'Home' and 'End' buttons don't work??

I am a new mac user...recently converted, so you guys might see my name coming up a lot in here...lol
So this 'home' and 'end' issue isn't just in Safari...it's on the iMac in general....even in TextEdit....
In Safari, for example, say I am typing a web address and I want to go back to the beginning by hitting the 'home' button (or even right now, I just made a typo, went back and fixed it and wanted to jump back to the end of the sentence using 'end'), but this doesn't work. Again, this is not just in Safari, but even in TextEdit...Please don't tell me iMac doesn't support the 'home' and 'end' functions...I will die! lol Okay, not die, but seriously, that will be a huge headache.
    Thanks for any help!!!

    Thanks for the and

  • Home and end buttons on keyboard.

Does the "home" and "end" and keys on the lower right side of the MacBook Pro keyboard function as "home" and "end" keys. I am able to move the cursor left and right using these keys, but have tried numerous key combinations without avail to get the "home" and "end" end functions to work. I'm sure it's an easy fix and I'm just missing the correct combination. Please help.

I must be losing it. I could have sworn that I tried that. It works right now, though. Thanks

  • Where are the home and end buttons

so i'm new to mac and purchased a mac book pro and that's when it hit me, where are the Insert, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down keys? Where are the arrow keys. I'm not much of a track pad user and although I think it is awesome I like to keep my hands on the keyboard as much as possible.
Also, is it me or does the Delete key on a Mac move in the wrong direction (from right to left instead of left to right)?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The answer is the Fn key...
Held down in addition to the Left arrow is Home, with the Right arrow key is End, with the Up arrow key is PgUp, with the Down arrow key is PgDn, and with to the Delete key is Forward Delete.
You might find it helpful to enable the Keyboard Viewer in Hardware, Keyboard, Show Keyboard viewer in menu bar. On OS X 10.6 it displays a flag for your selected country. (Not sure about OS X Lion 10.7 though.) When enabled, click on the flag and select Show Keyboard Viewer. As you press Shift, Fn, Ctrl, Alt/Option, and Command you will see onscreen what keystrokes result, separately and in combination.

  • Using 'home' and 'end' on keyboard

I have a full length apple keyboard with the home, end, page up, page down buttons.  For some reason, the home and end buttons to not function like they would on a PC (go to beginning or end of sentences.)  I have searched keyboard preferences and can't find anything blatant to select or deselect.

Well, Apple dicides those things for Macs, but in the beginning of computers, Home went to the beginning of the doc, End went to the bottom of the doc, later when computers had multiple page documents, somebody invented Page Up/Down... and from the names, I wouldn't actually expect sentences or lines to be involved!
You can change the behavior to what you like with Spark...

  • MacBook keyboard -shortcut for HOME and END function on the keyboard?

    Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to trigger the HOME and END button which normally is placed on a PC keyword, I can't find any shortcut for it?

Not sure about Pro, but on my MacBook (Leopard 10.5.6):
    In Word
= fn + right or left arrow keys only take me to the "home" or "end of the particular line I'm on.
= fn + up or down do the same as the MS "pg up" or "pg dn"
= fn + command + (arrow keys) take me to the very beginning or end of the document (Word or Excel).
    In Excel
= command + right or left jumps to the next cell that has info in it (skips empty cells)
= command + up or down jumps to the beginning or end of adjacent cells with info in them.
    = fn + right doesn't do anything
= fn + left takes me to the beginning of whatever row I'm in.
= fn + up and down are the same as pg up and pg dn. So is command + up or down arrow.
= fn + command + left arrow takes you to the beginning of the document (same as "Cntrl + Home")

  • OSX FF 4 beta - change Home and End key behavior

On OSX, Home and End keys go to the top and bottom of the page, respectively. We need a simple way to change this to the more typical beginning/end of '''line''' behavior. This is an extremely frustrating issue in an otherwise perfect browser.

Looks like I spoke to soon. The Keyfixer extension has been updated to work with FF 4, and is in the Add-on gallery.

  • [SOLVED]no pos1 and end button functionalities in ZSH-shell

    Hi guys,
I am wondering how I can configure zsh so that it can support position1 and end button functionalities. What I want is, for example:
when I type something, or navigate through my folder structures and recognize that there is a typo at the beginning or in the middle, I want to be able to jump to the first character or to the last character once I, for instance, corrected the typo etc...?
    Is this possible?

I have the following in my .zshrc
    # bindkey
    bindkey -e
    bindkey "\e[3~" delete-char
    # Home- und End-Keys.
    bindkey '\e[1~' beginning-of-line
    bindkey '\e[4~' end-of-line
what are `\e[1~` and `le[4~`? My .zshrc configuration was working pretty fine on my previous linux systems (ubuntu, opensuse, fedora etc..)
Why should they be coded differently? Can someone please explain this specific syntax?
Very interestingly - my laptop keyboard has an extra numlock => There is a fn button (for changing the function of a button) => therefore I have
    - Pos 1 on 7 within the numlock
    - End on 1 within the numlock
But when I turn off the numlock, I can jump to the beginning and end of the line by using 1 and 7 consequently. But I have two more extra buttons only for this pos1 and end purposes. I want to activate those buttons. And I do not know which code they have
    Thanks

  • Why do HOME and END ignore focus in text fields?

I just noticed that the HOME and END keys seem to ignore focus in a text field on webpages.
Normally, they go to the beginning and end of a webpage, which is perfectly fine with me. And in fact it's quite useful on really really long webpages.
However, when my cursor is in a text field (“focused”), I expect HOME to go to the beginning of the line and END to go to the end of the line. However, this is not the case.
    1. Does anybody know why this is the case?
    2. Does anybody know if this can be changed to my desired behavior?

    Well, I'll be damned!
I feel a bit sheepish, but I'd never noticed that that was the way Home and End worked everywhere. For some reason I had assumed it was Safari-only. Once I read your post, I was purposely mindful about the keys I was using, and I realized that I'd learned to automatically use ⌘← and ⌘→ when editing text elsewhere. Weird.
I think this probably arose from the fact that my first Apple computer was a laptop, and since Home and End are built into the arrow keys on the smaller keyboard, I suppose it was enough to mask the difference.
    *Follow-up question:*
Is there a technical / usability / official reason for this discrepancy? I remember being taught the function of Home and End in computer classes in Elementary School (late 80s and early 90s for me). Some of the computers in these classes were Apple and some where PCs. (I acknowledge that Apple during that time is not the same as Apple after Steve Jobs returned as CEO, but if the cause of this difference is Apple vs. Microsoft related, then I thought it was possibly relevant.)

  • Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in, any ideas?

Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in so I cannot restore or anything.  Looks like the screen is on it's just unresponsive and black obviously.  Has anyone had this problem?  I was updating via wifi right in front of my router and my computer.

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department.  Her suggestions:  change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers.  So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue.  It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more.  Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department.  Make them aware of this problem!

My grandsons new Apple refurbed 35g ipad keeps locking up with a black screen amd nothing else. I have reset it many times pressing the home and off buttons together but it keeps locking up. Help, please!

Thank you for trying to help. I followed your instructions, it took 6 hours to download, and then said it could not solve the problem (something to do with error 9?). It will have to go back to Apple - its only 3 days since it came out of the package and its very disappointing for him. Looks like I have to hang around in the Apple store in Plymouth all tomorrow until they can fix it, or will change it. Thanks for your help.

  • My ipad has suddenly decided not to connect to the internet. My WiFi signal is strong. My PC is connected ok through the same WiFi signal. I have tried pressing the home and off buttons to get the apple logo but this makes no difference

My ipad2 has suddenly decided not to connect to the internet either through Safari or email. My WiFi signal is strong and all other devices in my house are connecting ok. I have tried pressing the home and off buttons together to get the Apple Logo but this has not changed anything, still cannot connect. "Safari cannot open the page because your ipad is not connected to the internet"

I have done this and no difference
I have just realised what has caused the problem.
Yesterday I fitted an additional Homeplug with built in wireless N adapter ( I alreday have another type fitted from my main router position) The wireless system to my ipad is obviously "confused" . Having now removed the second homeplug and reset my ipad all is now ok
