I purchashed Lion from the App stor and was able to download it on my Mac Pro. I just got a new MacBook Pro which has 10.6.8 on it and want to download Lion to that. I accessed the app store on the MBP and see where the download option for Lion is insode the purchases window. When I hit download It asks me for my Apple ID and passwrod after that I hot download and nothing happens.
Now I also see if I click on the item I get a message saying item not available in U.S. Store
Any help?

A new MBP with Snow Leopard, or new to you? MBPs haven't come with SL for years.
Lion is no longer available in the Mac App Store. It has been replaced by Mt Lion. Apple constantly reminds folks to make backup copies of their software because it may not always be available for redownload in the future.

I downloaded Lion from the App Store on to my iMac and did not save it to a thumb before installing.  Do I have to buy it again to install  it on my Macbook Pro and iPad,  or is there another way to do that?
All my electronics are about a year old.   iPad is Model MB293LL (4.2.1) only wi-fi - no phone.
MacBook Pro is  OSX 10.6.8 Build 10K549.  Also have an AT&T iPhone that I basically use as a Palm, since I changed carriers.
    Thank you for your help.
ps: I got an error message and it looks like this did not get posted the first time.  2nd try.

Open the Mac App Store on your MacBook Pro
Hold the Option key and click on “Purchases”
Hold the Option key and click on “OS X Lion” from the purchased app list
“Installed’ should now say “Install” which allows you to download OS X Lion.
This assumes you are using the same Apple ID on both computers.
Lion does not get installed on an iPad. It runs iOS.

  • Will downloading Lion from the App Store (previously purchased) while on Mountain Lion erase my current OS?

    All,
I'm trying to download Lion from the App Store to make a bootable external hard drive. My concern is that the app store gives me a warning: "OS X 10.8 is already installed on this computer. Are you sure you want to download OS X 10.7?"
I'm not sure what this means and I would prefer not to risk erasing my current operating system. Does anyone have an idea?
    Thank you in advance.

Futhermore, I can't believe that the App Store allows you to download OS X Lion while you are in OS X Mountain Lion, because normally the App Store gives an error because you are running a newer Mac OS X.
If you just download OS X Lion, you won't lose OS X Mountain Lion, because just the installer will be downloaded onto the Applications folder. When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so close it, and use Lion Diskmaker to create an external drive with OS X Lion > http://liondiskmaker.com
As you are running OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to make an external drive with OS X Mountain Lion instead, if you can. That's because probably you will want to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion and not Lion

  • I can't download Lion from the App Store.

I am trying to purchase Lion from the App Store on my MacBook Pro. Every time I click on the "Buy App" button, I have to log-in 3 times (twice to verify billing info), and then the "waiting" wheel next to the forward and back buttons just keeps spinning. I have checked "Purchases" but it is not there. I have restarted my computer but that didn't help. I have made sure that my computer is compatible with Lion, but I still have this problem. Any ideas?

I had double-checked all the info when it asked me to verify, but after you made the suggestion, I decided to go into my account first, enter my security code, check that all the other info was correct, and retry. This time it worked! The strange thing is, all the info was correct all the other times too. But thank you; I wouldn't have gone into my account first if you hadn't suggested I check the info.

  • Attempting to download Lion from the app store, get error code "NSPortTimeoutException".  I am currently running 10.6.8 Thanks for any assistance

I get the message about 3/4 way through the download from the App Store.  I have run software update, still no success.

While the hardware will probably need a RAM upgrade, since I highly doubt Lion will work usably on 2GB, I think the main problem you are facing is a connectivity issue. The full Lion installer download weighs in at around 3-4GB so it is gonna take a long time. And if it gets interrupted, well...
Maybe search around for an alternate connectivity arrangement? And be sure to run Software Update first; there was an update to the App Store application a short while back for the Lion version, might also have one for the SL version.

  • What do I do when trying to download Lion from the app store and the icon says "waiting" and then disappears.

I am trying to update a new iMac from Snow Leopard to Lion. When I click on install in the app store, the LIon icon jumps down into the dock and nothing happens. The message above the icon is "waiting." Eventually, the icon disappears. How can I install Lion?

  • I am downloading lion from the app store and the downloading is taking a long time. also my internet stopped for a few minutes. will that affect the download content.

i have done an online payment for the new mac os. and the downloading is taking a long time . why is it so. its been more than half a day.
also my internet was down for a couple of minutes and so does this affect the integrity of the software and would it be corrupted.
if the software is downloaded is corrupt will i be able to retrieve another copy or have i lost my money in thos.

My download took about 4 hours on a 6 Mbps connection, and I noticed from the winking router light that it paused from time-to-time. The download was successful. It operated perfectly, probably because I did a clean installation rather than the simpler upgrade.

  • I cannot download Lion from the App Store

It says that they cannot complete my order. The error code says:INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE.  Everything is up to date. The MacBook meets all the requirements.  Why can't I download it?

I'm having the same problem, but in Lion 10.7.1, and I have a "workaround" that solved it for me.
Create a new user with administative priviledges (or use an existing account - other than your own - with admin. privs.) and log in.  Then I was able to download the updates.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cant download lion from the app store, it says i dont have space but i checked, i have 40 gb free..

it says i dont have space but i checked, i have 40 gb free..

how much RAM or memory do you have,
go to >about this mac to find out. Lion needs a minimum of 2gb.
Also, the hard drive in which you are installing lion needs to have the free space.

  • 2 hrs to upload Lion from the app store???

I downloaded Lion from the App store to upgrade from Snow Leopard.  After the dowload the display suggested 30 minutes to install.  It actually took over 2 hours????
Any ideas as to why it would take so long?
I'm hoping it is a sign of a failing hard drive.  I feel I can replace the HD myself without taking it to the Apple store.
To those in the know do you think it's a failing HD?
    thanks
    Dennis

Ah, sorry. The 30 minute install time is a rough estimate. Since Lion is being installed on top of Snow Leopard, your software, and data, there's a lot for the installer to do. If you are installing Lion onto an empty drive, 20-30 minutes is realistic. I have a MBA with SSD and I decided on a clean install for it. It was very close to 20 minutes. However when I installed it on my iMac (a 1 TB drive about 2/3 full) it took well over an hour. I'd say 70-80 minutes.
The installer has to perform a drive integrity check, it has to scan for certain plug-ins and software that will be put into an incompatible software folder, and a lot more. You've done a drive test and found nothing wrong. If over the next couple weeks you find that Lion is pretty stable, stop worrying about it. If you start getting kernel panics and software hangs, especially when the program is reading or writing data, then start thinking about the drive again.

  • I can't redownload Lion from the APP store.

I can't re-download lion from the APP store.  I only downloaded it yesterday and it stopped during the night. I can't find it in my purchases. I got a receipt today so I did purchasee it! Any help??

    Glad to help.
When the download is finished, it'll start the installer.  You should quit the installer and drag a copy of the 4Gig installer out of the apps directory to another location. (the desktop is ok).
The last step of the install will delete that huge download from the apps directory so if you needed it again, you'd have to download again.
Edit:  To restart the installer, just double click it on the desktop or wherever you move it.

  • I am trying to download OS X Lion from the app store and it says it can not complete my purchase becuase it needs at least 2GB of space and i have that

i am trying to download OS X Lion from the app store and it says it can not complete my purchase becuase it needs at least 2GB of space and over 2GB on my computer...any ideas??

That requirement is referring to the need for 2gB of RAM, not hard drive space.

    Thanks

You can use iCloud with 10.7.5. You do not need to upgrade to Yosemite. You should provide a minimum of 15 GBs of free space or 10% of the hard drive's capacity, whichever is greater.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Unable to download Mountain Lion from the App store

Hi, when I try to download Mountain Lion from the app store I get the message, " The product distribution file could not be verified ... " Obviously I'm doing something really stupid. Advice welcome!
    Thanks

A belated thanks for your help. I'd never have solved it otherwise. Maybe Apple could change the automatic reply that I got initially ("The product distribution file could not be verified ....") othewise they risk loosing customers.
    Thanks again.
