Extracting explanations from planning app and loading into Oracle table

Hi All,
I had a requirement where I had to extract data from a planning application through ODI 11g and load it into Oracle RDBMS.
I used essbase as my source in technology (since planning data is stored on essbase side) and oracle as my target.
Now the data is getting extracted from essbase side and is getting loaded into Oracle table through ODI.
Now the client requires that they want to extract the explanations or text values also from planning application and load them into Oracle table.
How this can be achieved? Is there a table on the sql side(since sql database is being used at back end for planning app) which stores the explanations,if yes please let me know which table it is.
Kindly help me with this requirement.

Hi,
IKM SQL Control Append is perfect if you don't need incremental updates. If you need it, go for IKM Oracle Incremental Update (MERGE) or something like that.

  • Extract the data from SQL Server and Import into Oracle

    Hi,
I would like to run a daily job that will export the table data from SQL server table (it will be only one or two table) and Import back into Oracle table (it might one or two table tables).
Could you please guide me that how can i do this using either sql server or oracle?
We have oracle 9.2 and sql server 2005.
Normally i do from flat file which is generated by source destination nand i dump into oracle using sql*loader but this time I have to directly extract/export the data from MS Sql server and load into Oracle table, mostly it will reload so i might doing any massaging data during the load.
If you show me the detail approach, it will be really appreciated.
I have access to Sql server but i don't how to use sql server to do this or using oracle as a daily job even becuase have to schedule the job for this as it will be a daily job.
    Thanks,
    poratips

Unless you can find an open source ODBC driver for SQL Server that runs on Solaris (and I wouldn't be overly hopeful there) Heterogeneous Services would require that you license something-- a third party ODBC driver, a new Oracle instance, or an Oracle Transparent Gateway.
As I stated below, you could certainly use SQL Server's ETL tool, DTS. Oracle's ETL tools would require additional licensing since you're just on 9.2. You could also write a small application (Java or otherwise) that connected to both databases and transferred the data. If you're particularly enterprising, you could load the SQL Server Type 4 JDBC driver into Oracle's JVM and write a Java stored procedure that connected to the SQL Server database via JDBC, but that's a pretty convoluted approach.

  • Extract data from xml file and insert into another exiting xml fil

    hello,
i am searching extract data from xml file and insert into another exiting xml file by a java program. I understood it is easy to extract data from a xml file, and how ever without creating another xml file. We want to insert the extracted data into another exiting xml file. Suggestions?
    Regards,

If the files are small, you can load the target file in a DOM document, insert the data from the source file and persist the DOM.
If the files are large, you probably want to use a StAX or SAX.

If using this, the receiving file would have to have bytes inserted that exactly match the number of bytes replaced. • Best Practice to fetch SQL Server data and Insert into Oracle Tables

    Hello,
I want to read sqlserver data everry half an hour and write into oracle tables ( in two different databases). What is the best practice for doing this?
We do not have any database dblinks from oracle to sqlserver and vice versa.
    Any help is highly appreciable?
    Thanks

    Well, that's easy:
use a TimerTask to do the following every half an hour:
    - open a connection to sql server
    - open two connections to the oracle databases
    - for each row you read from the sql server, do the inserts into the oracle databases
    - commit
    - close all connections

I have table with BLOB datatype contains a excel file. I have to read that data from excel and store into one table with all the fields in excel.
All the excel fields and my table columns are same.
Can you share with me how can acheive this using LOB's?
    Thanks

    Hi OraSuirya,
you can try with external tables .
    syntax as follows
    create table ext_table_csv (
    i Number,
    n Varchar2(20),
    m Varchar2(20)
    organization external (
    type oracle_loader
    default directory ext_dir
    access parameters (
    records delimited by newline
    fields terminated by ','
    missing field values are null
    location ('file.csv')
    reject limit unlimited;
For this you need to create directory
    Directory Creation syntax:
    create or replace directory ext_dir as 'D:\oracle\user_dir\ext_dir';
    grant read, write on directory ext_dir to <User>;
please paste the excel file in the particular directory .
I hope this will help you.
Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere .
    Thanks,
    Tippu.

  • Mainframe data loaded into Oracle tables - Test for low values using PL/SQL

Mainframe legacy data has been copied straight from the legacy tables into mirrored tables in Oracle. Some columns from the mainframe data had 'low values' in them. These columns were defined on the Oracle tables as varchar2 types. In looking at the data, some of these columns appear to have data that looks like little square boxes, not sure but maybe that is the way Oracle interprets the 'low values' in the original data into varchar. When I run a select to find all rows where this column is not null, it selects these columns. In the results of the select statement, the columns appear to be blank, however, in looking at the data in the column using SQL Developer, I can see the odd 'square boxes'. My guess is that the select statement is detecting that something exists in this column. Long story short, some how I am going to have to test this legacy data on the Oracle table using Pl/Sql to test for 'low values'. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could do this????? Help! The mainframe data we are loading into these tables is loaded with columns with low values.
    I am using Oracle 11i.
    Thanks

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could do this????? As suggested, use the SQL function called DUMP() to see the actual contents (in hex) of these columns.

  • Data extract/convert from SAP system and load to Unix system - Urgent

    Hi,
I have a requirement that I need to extract data from SAP and each data field will have some conditions and need to map/Load it to the Legacy Unix system.
there are four kinds of data objects of HR system, need to extract them individually and map those into Unix system.
Can anyone please suggest me step-by-step how to go about it....like
do we need to write a report for that?
do we need to use Function modules? etc.,
How to set mappings of that Data to a file?
How to map that file to Unix system?
Need to run those on daily basis and after first run, only changed data file need to be loaded. how to do this?
    thanks

    rewarded with the points.

    Hi
I can't say this becouse I don't the problem, anyway u have to do it by yourself.
    U should create:
    - a document where u define the file format: data type, size and name of the field of the unix system;
    - a document for the mapping: link between SAP fields and Unix system fields
Based on these document you'll create a structure on the report:
    DATA: BEGIN OF STR_UNIX_SYSTEM,
                 FIELD1 ...,
                 FIELD2 ...,
                 FIELDN....,
               END  OF STR_UNIX_SYSTEM.
and the code to transfer the data from SAP to legacy:
    MOVE: <SAP TABLE>-FIELD TO STR_UNIX_SYSTEM-FIELD1,
So all steps have to be defined in the report before downloading the file.
So I don't know which legacy system you're speaking about, after creating the file the legacy should read it in order to upload the data.
U can create a daily job for that report, if you need to transfer the changed data only you should read the change document table (CDHDR and CDPOS) but I don't know HR so I'm not sure these tables are available for HR.

When you get an error with external tables (or sql*loader) look in the same folder as the data file and you should get a .log file and maybe a .bad file too.
The log file should indicate the nature of the error it has trying to load the data.
