FF 8.0.1 forgets what tools bars were in what state when open after closing. It defaults to Menu bar off, bookmarks bar off, tabs on top...

Randomly FF 8.0.1 when you open it, forgets the last state it was in when you closed the program down. It seems to default to bookmarks toolbar off, menu bar off, and the Tabs on top is on when you start FF 8.0.1.... I have made no settings changes or altered any add on's to FF. Nothing happens to passwords or bookmarks just the bars in use...

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Add ons tool bar and tabs disappeared when opened closed browser.

I have deleted and re-installed 17.01 three times now. The first time was to get into my bank site. The second because I still was having problems with downloading. My browser has been working well for about a couple of weeks. I was using the browser, closed it with tabs open (oh, and I haven't had a tab open alert, since upgrading to 17). Normally, when I reopen the browser, all the tabs are there and open. This time, the tabs were open but my add on tool bar on top was closed, even though it was checked to be open. I closed the browser, and reopened it, and not only was the add on tool bar gone, but now all the tabs were gone too. I uninstalled and re-installed 17.01, and nothing changed. I have come to hate 17 with a passion.
And, no, I haven't installed anything new, and I don't have tab mix (what ever that is) add on.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Tool bar stays on desk top when browswer closes

I have used Firefox for over a year. I updated to the latest edition as recommended. Since then, when I close the browser, the top (tool bar) remains on my desk top while the bottom (screen) closes. there is no response to clicking X and the only way to get rid of it is to restart the computer. I thought it might be a problem with the installation, so I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it. It seemed to be fine until it happened again. I uninstalled Firefox again.
I have been upgrading as recommended, but I would like to go back to what I was using before. Can you help me with this?
I absolutely love Firefox and have recommended it to others, but this is driving me crazy.

You need a another blank external powered hard drive and the disks that came with your computer.
The first one stick it in and reboot holding the c key, select Disk Utility under the Utilities Menu on the Installer screen and select your EXTERNAL hard drive on left side and click erase, format HFS+ journaled and click erase...   (use the same drive name as the internal drive of the Mac)
Once the drive is formatted, quit Disk Utility and use the installer to install OS X onto the external drive. Reboot holding the option key down to select the external drive to boot from.
Run the setup and use the same user name as you did before, enter your network info and use Software update to get current on OS X 10.6.8.
Then access your internal boot drive and grab a copy of your user file folders (Music, Documents, Pictures etc)
You can now choose to download Grand Perspective, a free program to help you visualize where your data is and hogging up your machine. Your going to need to remove some data off the boot drive to another drive. Usually Video is a BIG data hoggers.
Remmeber to keep TWO copies of your data at all times, so since your deleting some off your problem drive (and may need to erase it, you need two other copies)
    http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
You can decide here what your going to do, if by taking data off the drive the computer boots fine and everything is normal then your ok.
If not you can choose to erase the drive using disk utility on the external and c booting off the installer disk and reinstalling 10.6 fresh that way, then you install programs from fresh sources and finally just some files from backup.
Use Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder to keep track of your drive usage, it should never go more that 75% filled, less than 50% filled is ideal for best performance.

  • TOOL BAR ADD TAB NOT WORKING EVEN AFTER REINSTALL.

ADD TAB IN TOOL BAR HAS BECOME NON RESPONSIVE. UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL DIDN'T HELP. YOU CAN STILL GET NEW TABS BY RT CLICKING FROM BOOKMARKS. BUT THE BUTTON AND THE PULL DOWN MENUS DON'T WORK. MY FIRST SUSPECT IS A VIRUS AS I JUST CLEANED ONE OUT OF MY SYSTEM. MAYBE A BROWSER HELPER LEFT SOMETHING FROM IT IN THE CODE. THIS WAS ABOUT THE TIME THAT NEW THREAT TO MOST OF THE WINDOWS SYSTEMS WENT OUT. SORRY CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH VIRUS I CLEANED. I CAUGHT IT AND CLEANED IT AUTOMATICALLY.

I ADAPTED THIS STYLE AS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ AND... ''so I could interject a subtext easier.'' SHOUTING WAS NEVER THE INTENT. ''sorry about that Chief.''
THANK YOU FOR THE QUICK RESPONSE AND MUCH NEEDED HELP!!!!!
    ''seats are cheap here.''
THE ASK TOOLBAR WAS ONE OF THOSE THINGS I USUALLY LOCATE AND OPT OUT OF WHEN INSTALLING A NEW PROGRAM. I DIDN'T CATCH IT THE LAST TIME AND HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE GETTING RID OF IT SO I DISABLED IT ''or so I thought'' WITH THE INTENT TO GET IT LATER. I HAD TRIED TO USE THE [ADD/REMOVE] FROM THE CONTROL PANEL WITHOUT SUCCESS.''I completely forgot about the firefox add on console. ''
I'VE SINCE TAKEN THAT OPTION AND I'M SURE THAT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. ILL LET YOU KNOW.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE GOOD WORK!!!!!! ''gee, I hope he heard me. they say that more than three exclamation marks is an indication of a damaged psyche.''

In Firefox 3.6 on Windows you can hide the menu bar via "View > Toolbars" or via the right click context menu on a toolbar.
Press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the menu bar.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the menu bar or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide.

  • I just upgraded and lost my bookmarks, tool bar and tabs at thre bottom. Even the green bar is gone

I don't know any more details. I just want my computer back to where it was before upgrading firefox

If you do not like the new appearance of Firefox 4 then you can change some setting to restore the Firefox 3 appearance.
You can right click the orange Firefox button to open the toolbar context menu or use (F10) View > Toolbars.
    * Click the Menu Bar entry to make the Menu Bar visible all the time.
    * Click "Tabs on Top" to remove the check mark and place the Tab Bar at its original position just above the browser window.

  • When I go to a drop down menu, for example bookmarks, I mouse over the text and it turns color with a dark bar; can this be fixed?

I am running Firefox 5 currently. Ever since the last update to Firefox 4 and currently with firefox 5 I have had this issue. The dropdown menu is normal when it first drops down. When i move my cursor over the text in the menu it changes to a dark blue bar and remains that way until I close the dropdown, it resets until i dropdown and mouseover again. When I make a selection in the menu it works fine.
I have also noticed that the buttons in the browser and in certain websites have a "sweetspot" you have to hit for the button to function. In past versions if you clicked anywhere on the graphical button it would function.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
In Firefox 4 [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • WIsh to place Tabs Bar beneath address bar; No "Tabs on Top" options listed anywhere.

There is no "Tabs on Top" option.
Tab Mix Plus will move it to bottom of view-port, but not below address bar at top of view-port.
Extremely awkward; makes navigation difficult and harder to locate tabs, being more distant from view-port.

    Thanks, madperson.

  • Show tools bar that overlays on top of rulers on left....

When you have all of your palettes hidden, if you mouse over to the far left of the screen, a little grey bar appears that allows you pop open the tools palette. Is there a way to turn that functionality off? I can get to all of the tools via keyboard shortcuts and it is a pain when dragging out guides.

In the photoshop Preferences>Interface, uncheck Auto-Show Hidden Panels

  • My computer opens to Babylon search instead of Mozilla/Google and I have lost the tool bar at the top of the screen....favorites, file, etc.

I downloaded a program to convert currency called Babylon. Asked if I wanted it to be my search engine and I said no. After using the program I decided to uninstall. Now when I open Mozilla Firefox, it opens to a Babylon search page and my tool bar at the very top of the screen where I click on File, Tools, Favorites is gone. What can I do?

I only could change it by going to "about:config" page (type it on the address bar) and changing there like suggested here:
    http://www.clickonf5.org/software/change-default-search-engine-firefox-browser/6862
I searched for "babylon" and changed the links and titles to google

  • How do I add a tool bar button?

I would like to create a button on the Acrobat X Standard tool bar ribbon on the top of the page that saves the document I'm viewing to a specific directory TIFF format.  I have to do this MANY times per day, a script of this nature would save me MANY key strokes. Note I don't want the button on a form or burried in the "tools" menu, but rather along side the Save, Open, and other buttons.
Do I need to upgrade to a more expensive Acrobat to get this functionality?
    Thanks
    Jim

It should be possible with Standard. For more information, read the following:
    http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-save-pdf-acrobat-javascript

    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.134.html
When you use the app.addToolButton method in a folder-level JavaScript in Acrobat 10, it adds the button in the "Tools > Add-on Tools" panel, but you can drag it up to the Quick Tools toolbar.

  • My tool bars are see through and my desk top show through

I just installed Firefox 4 and when trying to install tool bars, the tabs and site screen move down and I can see my desktop (blurry) in the background. The tool bars are also semi-transparent and when I add tool bar items by dragging them up to tool bar area, they are almost invisible. Seems the background is missing above the tabs. I also attempted to create and name a new tool bar and add the items to it, but cannot because it does not show up anywhere in the list or on the screen. Where does it go?
