From 7.3 on NT to 8 on Solaris x86?

Has Oracle ported Oracle8 for Solaris x86?

Hi,
usually I expect people to do a little research and I do not give everything chewed.
Point 4:
go to the
<b>Oracle9i Database Migration Release 2 (9.2)</b>
go to the chapter 3
<b>Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle9i Release</b>
go to the point:
<b>Upgrade the Database Manually</b>
Exactly from here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96530/upgrade.htm#1009200
Keep in mind
1) that the <i>EXACT </i>procedure you are following it is not indicated in this manual
2) you have to think a little ( do you have all the windows services created on the destination system? if not, you have to create them ... )
3) this procedure is not supported by SAP. It is a valid option but not supported by them. You have to practice until you get all the points correctly

  • Telnet from Windows PC is very slow to Solaris x86, after Net linked

(Sorry about the re-post. I posted in the wrong group earlier)
I got the following info from this forum, in regards to configuring my Solaris x86 to link to the Net:
    # echo 192.168.0.1 > /etc/defaultrouter
    # route add default 192.168.0.1
    # echo nameserver 192.168.0.1 >> /etc/resolv.conf
    # cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf
So I did the above steps, reboot the Solaris, and my Solaris system can link to the Net fine afterwards. But ever since it had Net access, another problem is created.
Whenever I telnet using a command line from a Windows XP computer, it takes a long time to telnet to this Solaris system. Before, I would see the Solaris login prompt for telnet in a few seconds. Now, it's about 1 minute. Plus, if I try to use an xterminal software from that PC to link to the Solaris x86, it hangs.
So after I undo all the 4 commands above, reboot the Solaris computer, all these problems disappear. I can telnet from my Windows PC to this Solaris system very quickly. However, I no longer have Internet access from my Solaris.
Anyone knows how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

It sounds like a name resolution issue. Can you post the contents of your /etc/nsswitch.conf file for us?

  • Mounting a Solaris x86 CD/DVD from a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive

    Greetings, all.
Is it possible to mount a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive? I have the Solaris 10x86 Companion Software DVD sitting in a CD/DVD-ROM drive that's installed on a Windows server on my network. It is shared-out (F:) and the two servers can ping each other. I've also confirmed the NFS services/daemons are running on the Solaris x86 machine. I've tried the following variations but, all have failed to produce successful results:

I've also tried mounting it at bootup by adding the appropriate entry in the /etc/vfstab file but, this does not work as well. I've tried Google'ing for an answer to my issue but, I haven't been able to find anything that applies directly to what I'm reporting. It's usually chatter about mounting from one UNIX server to another. Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated.

After three weeks, you deserve a reply. Windoze does
not natively support NFS.Also deserves a decent answer...
There are two ways to do this:
Install Microsoft's free "Windows Services for UNIX," which includes a Windows NFS server; or
Install the 'sharity' package (google for it); it provides Solaris systems the ability to mount Windows shares

  • DB migration from RHEL 5 to Solaris x86(64bit)

    DB version : 11.1.0.7
    Platform : RHEL 5 (64bit)
We would like to move our non-ASM 11.1 DB which is currently in Linux (RHEL 5) to Solaris 10 x86 (64bit).
Both RHEL 5 (64bit) and Solaris x86 (64bit) are of LITTLE ENDIAN format.
    1. I gather that I have to use RMAN's CONVERT DATABASE for this. Any Metalink note or URLs relevant to this migration ?
    2. Would the migration be easier if my DB was in 11.2 ? I could upgrade my DB to 11.2 if there are any advangtages from migration point of view?

You can use transportable tablespace option to move database accross platforms.
First, you must check tablespace dependecies.
Check whether your tablespace can transfer or not?
    SQL> exec dbms_tts.transport_set_check('TEST_TS',TRUE);
    SQL> select * from transport_set_violations;
set status of tablespace which you want to move to Read-only.
    SQL>alter tablespace test_ts read only;
    Convert datafiles of tablespace
    RMAN> convert tablespace test_ts to platform 'HP-UX (64-bit)' format='/tmp/test01.dbf';
Export tablespace metadata using data pump export
    expdp talip/talip directory=dump_dir dumpfile=test_ts.dmp transport_tablespaces=test_ts
copy datafile of tablespace to another db.
    Import metadata to another db.
    impdp talip/talip directory=dump_dir dumpfile=test_ts.dmp transport_datafiles=/data1/testts01.dbf

  • Connect to Oracle database from Perl on Solaris x86

    Hi,
How can I connect to Oracle database using Perl scripts on Solaris x86. It seems that DBD-Oracle Perl module requires Oracle client installed to work. Is there any Oracle client available for Solaris x86? Any one got a workaround? Thanks.
    Angus Lee

Yes, you absolutely must have some portions of the rdbms installed before you can proceed. If your Solaris x86 machine is only a client, then you can get away with installing just ?/rdbms/mesg and ?/rdbms/lib.
I have Oracle 7.3.4, 8.0.5, 8.0.6, and 8.1.6 for Intel Solaris 2.6. I don't know if they'll run on Solaris 8 or 9 but I'm trying to upgrade at this very moment. As long as you conform to Oracle developer license, then you may download them from my machine.
I believe the reason Oracle dropped their Intel Solaris port is probably because Sun went through a period where they themselves dropped their Intel port. They've picked back up and if enough Oracle on Intel Solaris customers scream, then Oracle might pick it back up again too.
Send me an email if you're interested in the downloads.

  • Migration from Solaris Sparc server to Solaris  x86

    Hi ,
    I would like to know.
Migration from SAP ECC6 , Oracle , Solaris Sparc to Ecc6, Oracle, Solaris x86 , Is this consider Heterogeneous or Homogeneous system copy?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    ck chai

Solaris on SPARC is a BIgEndian platform, Solaris on X86 is LittleEndian - so it's heterogeneous --> you need to use R3load to performa a migration - and you need to have a certified migration consultant on-site to do that migration (http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ).

  • Migration from Windows(32 bit) Oracle 9i db to Linux(X86-64 bit) Oracle 10g

    Hi,
We are planing to Migrate our Oracle 9.2.0.6 version database from Windows(32 bit) to Oracle 10.2.0.1 version database on Linux(64 bit). Can I directly do the Migration using export/import? or What is the procedure to do this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The directory structure is different...that's why you need to create the tablespaces in Linux. e.g. export dump says create tablespace in D:\..., there is no such thing in Linux. You can just export it, install software, create the db, tablespaces in Linux and import into the 10g in Linux.

  • Solaris x86: How to boot from Veritas mirror disk?

    Hello team,
We are using trailware Veritas Storage Foundation (VxVM) on Solaris 10 x86 system and need help in booting from alternative boot disk(Mirror disk).
    Steps did :
    1. Mirrored the root disk group using veritas volume manager command *"vxrootmir"*
    2. Updated the bootpath with mirror disk path in /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc
    Updated the EEPROM information:
    # bootadm update-archive -R /a
    3. Edited the grub configuration file, /boot/grub/menu.lst
Created the following entry similar to primary disk entry to allow the root disk mirror to be booted
    title Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 s10x_u10wos_17b X86 <VxVM: Alternate Boot Disk>
    findroot (rootfs0,0,a)
    kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot
    module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive
    4. reboot -- -r
At the time of boot, selected the newly added entry from the grub list and got the following error,
*"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device and press a key".*
I am unable to move further from here, is this because of the veritas trial version we are using ?
Please help in resolving this issue and also explain the step by step process of booting from alternative boot disk on a x86 machine.
Let me know if you find anything inappropriate. Looking forward for your replies.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi--
I have not seen this message before but a quick google search says that is pretty common and is related to the system
trying to boot from a different device (not the one you intended). Can you check your BIOS settings and possibly remove
devices from the boot order setting... Otherwise, I would suggest running installgrub on the disk that you are trying to boot
    from.
I'm curious why you are trying Veritas. Is there a Veritas feature that you need? You might consider trying ZFS if you haven't
already. Its very simple to set up and use.

    Hi there,
I guess a simple modification to your PATH statement would solve this, you can also specify "-I /usr/include" in your makefile as a path to search for. So I only think your environment needs a little twinkling.

  • Solaris x86 8 bootdisk

For some reason my computer fails to boot from scsi cdrom, is there a
bootdisk for Solaris x86? I have a Tekram DC-390F SCSI adapter and

Tekram offer a driver for download - this presupposes you have a system already installed and running Solaris so that you can actually install the Tekram driver.
What Tekram have failed to implement and deliver is the "ITU" version of the driver - Install Time Update is Sun's mechanism \for allowing installation of drivers for devices which need to be bootable duringthe installation of the system - you'll see something like "F4 - use ITU floppy" along the bottom of the install screen.
Options are: complain to Tekram and ask if they've heard of ITU

install with IDE CD then add SCSI support after

  • Forms HOST command no longer works after database upgrade from 10g to 11g

    Hi,
After upgrading the database 10g to 11g the forms HOST command no longer works on Unix server. The form used to work fine prior the upgrade. I read all the threads I could find and did not see any solutions. Adding PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not work because it does not even run a basic shell script. (I saw this solution, adding PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, in many questions / threads).
    1. I wouldn't expect the database upgrade to be an issue, but it is the only change we had.
    2. Note, 11g is Oracle Fusion Middleware which is quite a bit different than 10g.
I even tried the most basic commands like "echo" which is a build-in Unix command and there is no directory for it (ie. no /usr/bin - so variable PATH is irrelvent). i.e HOST('echo hi'); and HOST('echo "hi" '); and even HOST ('echo hi > /my_file.txt'); all returns FORMS_FAILURE (actually the if is IF FORM_SUCCESS THEN ... else ... and the else part always runs now - whereas it didn't before.).
Or basic commands like /usr/bin/ls as in HOST(/usr/bin/ls). At that point I was just testing the Unix command would return FORM_SUCCESS even though I could not see the results (because they weren't writing to a log file). Notice that I'm using the direct path /usr/bin so no Unix environment variables were needed.
The form does use webutil but that part works. For example, we have webutil_file_transfer( ....) The file shows up on the application server and in the expected directory.
Here's the main goal. Upload a file from clients local PC to the datebase server. The form uploads the file to the Application server, then we have a Unix script to scp (secure copy) the file from the application server to the database server. IF webutil, or any other Oracle functions could put the file on the database server that would be better. But, I don't know of any procedures that do that - or would have done it cleanly (i.e. storing to database and write back to server and then using a blob etc. )
Anyway, I was hoping someone would help with either of these.
    1) Get the HOST command to work. - If we can get that to work then I wouldn't need any more help. We can just call the already existing Unix script to copy the file from the application server to the database.
    2) OR be able to upload directly to the database server - wanted to do that originally
    Any help would be appreciated

Solution for those interested and for anyone else searching this forum for a solution
I found this on My Oracle Support:
<h3>Host Command from Forms Not Working in 11g in Sun Solaris Sparc OS [ID 1157346.1]</h3>
Applies To: Oracle Forms - Version 11.1.1.1.0 and later
    Sun SPARC Sun OS
    Symptoms:
When trying to execute a Shell script or any OS command using the host() Built-in from Forms 11g, the host()command is not getting executed. The same functionality works on other operating systems and in previous versions like 10gR2.
    Steps to be followed:
    1) Take a backup and edit the $DOMAIN_HOME/config/fmwconfig/servers/WLS_FORMS/applications/formsapp_11.1.1/config/default.env or any custom environment file.
    2) Locate the following environment variable:
    LD_PRELOAD=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
    3) Comment out this variable. After the changes, it will look like the following:
    #LD_PRELOAD=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
    3) a) Instead of LD_PRELOAD, kindly use LD_PRELOAD_64 as given below :
    LD_PRELOAD_64=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
(This makes HOST AND RUN_REPORT_OBJECT work fine).
    4) Save the file and execute your forms. The Host() built-in will work as expected
The LD_PRELOAD setting in default.env is only required for the working of signal chaining facility in JVM version 1.5 and later. If you are not using theSignal chaining facility, this variable is not required. For more information, refer to the following documentation
