Hiding symlinks in the root on a cloned volume

This evening I cloned a Tiger server system volume from one disk to another using Disk Utility. On the newly created clone, symlinks for etc, tmp, and var show up in the root when viewed with the Finder whereas they don't on the original drive. Is there any way to re-hide those symlinks on the cloned drive?

Actually I tried CCC first and it died with an Applescript error and an extremely long list of files it had a problem copying for some reason. Copying the drive with Disk Utility worked except for the symlinks showing up, and even that is not a giant deal (at least to me). It didn't hurt the server's functionality, and I'm glad to get the chance to learn how to fix it.
Next time I clone a server drive, instead of cloning it live to an external FireWire drive, I should probably boot the server in target disk mode, and plug the server and FW drive into a second machine, and use Disk Utility on that second machine to do the cloning. I didn't realize this before, but block copy cloning requires that the source volume be unmounted, and the only way to do that for a system partition is to run it in target disk mode.

How can I change JUST the root password, not my user's passwords?

I'd like to have access to this machine remotely and be able to drop files onto it's multiple users' desktops from anywhere on our network.
I can do this with a root login. I have enabled root, but I am unable to log in using the "Connect to Server" utility using my root credentials.
Is there a way for me to set up my root account so that I can log in remotely using a unique password? Not the password of the account I used to enable root?

You could do this without enabling the root account, via ssh and an ssh-keygen key properly setup.
Then you can use
scp file [file ...] [email protected]:/User/username/Desktop/
This is without enabling the root account, but rather having your account's ssh-keygen generated public key stored in the remote.system.address's /private/var/root/.ssh/authorized_keys file.
Or if you prefer you could sftp (but I find scp much more flexible).
rsync is also available to transfer files via ssh connections.

Error while running the root.sh script during Grid installation on a pre-installed 11g database .

Hi Oracle Experts,
I am trying to setup a new GRID Standalone Infrastructure on a previously installed Oracle 11g database.
It runs all fine but when prompts to run the root.sh script it does not allow to proceed as it prompts to overwrite the existing path for /usr/bin/local
well, I google'd and tried with overwrite : Y . It prompted to run the script but it failed ...
Could you please help me on this ..

How can i get also the files in the root directory and how can i for testing add items of IEnumerable FTPListDetail to List string ?

What i get is only the directories and files that in other nodes. But i have also files on the root directory and i never

Now the main problem is that when i list the files and directories and display them in the treeView it dosen't get/display
the files in the root directory. Only in the sub nodes.
I will see the files inside hello and stats but i need also to see the files in the root directory.
1. How can i get and list/display the files of the root directory ?
2. For the test i tried to add to a List<string> the items in var files to see if i get the root files at all.
This is what i tried in the CreateDirectoryNode before it i added:

But this is wrong. I just wanted to see in testfiles what items i'm getting in var files in the end of the process.
Both var files and directoryListing are IEnumerable<FTPListDetail> type.

Now this is a screenshot of my program and you can see that in my program i have only the directories hello stats test but i don't have the files in the root: htaccess.config swp txt 1.txt 2.png....all this files i don't have it on my treeView.
What i want it to be is that on my program on the treeView i will also display the files like in my ftp server.
I see in my program only the directories and the files in the directories but i don't see the files on the root directory/node.
I need it to be like in my ftp server i need to see in my program the htaccess 1.txt 2.png and so on.
So what i wrote in my main question is that in the var files i see this files of the root directory i just don't know to add and display them in my treeView(my treeView is treeViewMS1).
I know i checked in my program in the method CreateDirectoryNode i see in the first iteration of the recursive that var files contain this root files i just dont know how to add and display them in my treeView.
On the next iterations when it does the recursive it's adding the directories hello stats test and the files in this directories but i need it to first add the root files.

How do I use a button within a movieclip to go to the root?

Hi there, I am new to flash and AS3 and need some help
getting my buttons to work.
I made a script for the file that i am working with that has
buttons located within 2 movieclips. I want that button to load and
image into a UILoader (problemLoader_mc) that I placed on the stage
on the main timeline (the timeline that contains WeekBar_mc). The
problem is that I don't know how to get to the root of the file to
start a new directory to tell my function to load the image i want.
I have tried multiple approaches including:
MovieClip(root).problemLoader_mc.source = problemArray[0]
MovieClip(parent).problemLoader_mc.source = problemArray[0]
root.problemLoader_mc.source = problemArray[0]

I have a mental block for reasoning things out as far as
assigning the listener to an object two mc's away from the main
timeline while having the function in the main timeline, so I may
play with that on my own for awhile. One thing you didn't do
though, was to pay the same attention to the problemArray[0]
assignment in that function, which I assume also lives in the root.
But here's what I'd do for the moment.
Take all that code except the array and plant it in the
timeline where WEEK1btn lives, modifying it as follows....

How to find the root document of my web application, if it is in WAR file ?

I want the root document of my web application. I my EAR file, i have only one WAR file. In my WAR file the following are the folders:-
enterprise/..
properties/sql/..
locale/..
WEB-INF/..
Once i get the 'real path' or 'root document', I will use that in my application in no.of times. Path(root document) is used in the following way in my application:-
File emailTemplatesFolder = new File( path + "/enterprise/"+ enterpriseCode+"/EmailTemplates");
If i use getRealPath() method, it works fine, in use Oracle9ias, because, EAR file will be extracted. Where as in Weblogic 6.1, EAR file willn't be extracted, so that getRealPath() is giving 'null', that is reason why i am seeking for alternative.

Yes, that is the corrected behaviour.
What you need to do is to get the ServletContext, and then load the files as resources.
Here is how to load a properties file in the init() servlet method, which has access to the ServletConfig object that can give u the ServletContext.

E4X: What happens to the root element?

I'm working with XML using the E4X notation. I'm used to the "old school" XML APIs that use DOM and I'm a bit confused.
For example, let's consider the following XML

I spent quite a lot of time trying to get it to work, until I discovered that the root element is not used. Can anyone explain this?
Or, I guess the simple explanation is that the root node is ignored and the sub nodes are created as properties of the object. The question also could be stated as: Why isn't this documented in the Flex API Reference?

I have some isuuses with importing the extended page. When I try to Import it throws an error.
Root Directory does not exist.
I am using the following command.

But After this when I try to see from the server there is no file with name EMCOpptyDetPG.xml exist. So I think this file is not imported.

while deploying a page to mds Repository i m getting the same error that root Directory does not exist but it also says that import completed successfully.
when i see the same using jdr_utils.listDocuments('xxxx/oracle/apps/ak/server/webui/xxxPG')
it says printing /xxxx/oracle/apps/ak/server/webui/xxxPG thus page is available in the mds repository and i m able to access the page at run time
my concern is why i m getting this error
my import command looks like this

After upgrading to Solaris 10 "Can't load the root filesystem" on V245

I have a Sunfire V245 that was running on Solaris 9 (very stable). I upgraded to Solaris 10 (6/06) this morning and everything seemed to go smoothly. After the upgrade the system rebooted, but will not boot. I get the following uptput;

It seems like the driver for that device does not exist. Since the system installed successfully it means that it S10 did find a disk. I wonder if that was a different disk than the default disk. Please boot to the miniroot and check the disk info.

How can I transfer the root account on my computer to a regular account?

Not sure if this in the correct category, but anyway...
Back in October 2010, I installed a Java update or something on my regular account, and it broke the account for some reason. I had no other account to use except for the root user that I enabled previously (just for testing). I logged into it and used it as my regular account, checking every so often to check if my regular account fixed itself. Sadly, it didn’t (at the time), but after a while, I upgraded my computer to Snow Leopard (I was previously running Leopard), I found that my old account finally fixed itself. Immediately, I attempted to copy over all of my files from the root account to the other account. I went onto the account, and it seemed to be a fresh account, so I assumed that it didn’t register the account files as legitimate and I guess it made it into a new account. I gave up after fiddling with it for a bit. To this day, I’m still using the root user as my main account, but a lot of things are broken (like Spotlight, Mail search, some other things) and I’d just like to know a clean way I could easily transfer all of the stuff from the root user to my old account (including all of the Library files and such). Please don’t say “You shouldn’t have used the root user because it’s really dangerous,” or whatever. I’ve been responsible with it for almost 2 years and I don’t think I could’ve done anything else. Its doable with Terminal. Log into your new userfolder in the /Users/ folder and open Terminal and say:
whoami
This is the owner of your newly transferred files.
Log into your root account and Launch Terminal. You will use the scp (secure copy) command to copy your files over to the new userfolder, replacing PathToNewFolder with the path to your new folder:
cd /PathToNewFolder
scp -r /private/var/root/* .
The copied files will all have ownership of root account, so you will then set ownership of all the files to your new username that you remember from above, replacing "NewName" with your new username:

find . -exec chown $USER:admin {} \;
find . -type d -exec chmod 750 {} \;
find . -type f -exec chmod 640 {} \;

Can I enable the root user account from the log in screen when I am locked out of the machine?

I am working on my friends mac to get it ready to sell. I went into the advanced options of the user and changed the name of the account. That's all I changed. I did read the warning that said if anything was changed it could cause damage, that's why I only changed the name of the user account. I didn't want to mess with anything else. Well, needless to say, I am locked out of the machine. Apparently the root user, system administrator, account was not enabled and I am stuck at the screen that I can get to with my installation disc. So how can I enable the root user account and get back onto the machine from the screen I am at? Can I enable the root user from terminal? I spent a good 8 hours yesterday researching this topic and have come up empty. Changing passwords from commands in terminal is not the problem. I am given just one account to choose from to log on and it's not accepting the password because of the changes I made in the advanced options menu.
Is there any hope of getting this thing going again? Or have I just screwed myself over?

How to delete the root DataObject?

I guess it's something simple, but I wasn't able to make it work. In general - I fetch some DataObjects from DSP service and would like to delete them all, but all I receive is com.bea.sdo.impl.ReadOnlyException: Root DataObject can not be deleted
Code for achieving this [this = exception :))] (two versions):

Could you point to some docs/pages where implementation of such a deleteOperation would be described? As if I am correct it's not something that is autogenerated by the workshop (unlike the submit())?

How do I create a folder in the root of the server and put the file in it.

The root of a webserver is the part to the right of your base URL.
Connect to your webserver and locate the folder where you see the index.html file and the folder with yoursitename.
That's the root.
It's the default location where iWeb publishes its pages. The folder you specify in the pathname field when you setup a FTP account.
With MobileMe and Personal Domain enabled it is the iDisk > Web > Sites folder.
The detailed instructions are as follows :
Add a folder.
Done.
