how do I stop Mac OS X Tiger internet connect prompting to disconnect
Every 15 minutes I get this message in the Internet Connect Window:
This is your reminder that your connection is still active. Do you wish to remain connected?
I have tried everything I could think of setup, network, System Prefrences and can not figure out how to stop this. Please help it is very annoying especially considering that I am in South America and using the built-in ethernet it takes about 8-9 hours to download 500MB.

Another problem is that it keeps playing as in, going through the scenes. Is that just a "Test" thing, or is there a way to fix that? Please help me figure out what codes to use for them.

There could be a number of problems with your movie. In the Control menu, there is an option, Loop Playback, that will cause the movie to loop when using Test Movie from the Control Menu. If there is a compiler error, the movie will loop uncontrollably when you Test. Look in the compiler errors window to see if you have any errors.
You may want to consider not using Scenes in your movie. They are a vestige of the earliest versions of Flash. Are you following a tutorial?

This is not a "how to read a file" question!! Please read on
I have a JApplet embedded on an HTML page which uses a CSS Stylesheet to set the document's colors, fonts, etc. and I would like to apply the same font/color scheme to the applet, by reading from the same CSS file.
I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY read the file via URLConnection+BufferedReader... So all I have left to do is to parse the CSS file so as to be able to extract the parameters that I need.
Given this very simple test.css :

Would someone be kind enough to write up the code for how to read the BODY.background property? I mean by using the "proper" Java StyleSheet facilities as oposed to just parsing the file "manually". I think we need to use the StyleSheet class, maybe also HTMLDocument and some others, but I've been reading the Javadocs and I can't figure it out myself, so I hope you can help me out!

...I'm running this Midlet on a Motorola A1000 and I keep getting the following exception:

stream is null
I've created the .jad package using KToolBar of the J2ME WTK2.2 with the appropriate .wav file on res folder.
What I'm doing wrong?

If your stream is null, then the wav file cannot be reached. Try this code:
stream = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/newalert.wav");If this doesn't work either, make sure your wav file is directly in the res directory and not in another subdirectory of it. I suggets not running your application directly from the phone until it works from the WTK emulator.

I have the OPPOSITE problem most people have -- Windows Sharing works TOO WELL.
I've donated a refurbished eMac to the local homeless shelter. I figured I'd made the system secure, and prevented any monkey business. Turns out the windows machines on the network are COMPLETELY insecure (guest access to everything is enabled). The problem is that the Mac is TOO friendly -- it automatically connects to the server as a guest, and happily presents everything to the user.
I've tried a dozen different things (I've removed the 'Shared' section from the sidebar in the Finder windows (Go->Network is still there, Doh.), tried to turn off File Sharing, and even disabled the mount_smbfs command in the /sbin directory with "chmod 0 mount_smbfs".)
I've asked the folks there to call in a PC tech and fix their security problem -- but it's a good question to which I've found no suitable answer... How to I stop the Mac from connecting to SMB Shares on the local network?

I am currently working on a MacBook Pro connected by Wi-Fi or Blue Tooth to my 16GB iPhone 4S; and supposedly to iCloud. I install every upgrade on each computer till the computer can take no more. My current MacBook Pro continues to accept upgrades.
I have been dealing with Address Book foibles since it first came out and the problems seem to get worse rather than resolved.
Problem #1: When a Company Name is checked to take precedence over a personal name the record/file does not surface during searches. This has happened for years on all my Macs, including most recently my MacBook Pro and its predecessor PowerBook G4. How do I fix this?
Problem #2: The Printing Defaults for Address Book Files are not useful and I can find no way to change them to my own preferences once and for all. I must reset them for every file every time I choose to print a file. Is there some way to set the defaults to MY preferences and only occasionally reset them according to my needs?
Problem #3: When entering information in "Notes" the cursor randomly and spontaneously goes to line one space one as I am entering information. How do I stop this? Then when I cut and paste the misplaced text to where it belongs it may or may not return to once again begin at line one space one and following.
Problem #4: When Printing a Record/File from Address Book I would like to use the whole 8.5" x 11" page. Instead it prints on an 8.5" x 11" page in three columns. Is there a way to format the output? I have not found one and the Mac 'Geniuses' do not know of any.
Problem #5: Subsequent to one of the upgrades in the last year or so, the search feature does not work. (I have had this computer since May 2011). No matter what I type in the search line I am stuck in the 'All' Directory. To find anyone or anything I must scroll through the address book manually. Is there a fix to this?
Problem #6: Sometimes, when I try to sync my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, the records simply duplicate. How d I undo this without manually deleting the duplicates?
Problem #7: Does anyone know of a third party Address-Book-type App that is better than the Apple version and can easily import over 3000 contacts information?

I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

If you are printing via a Windows shared printer and it is the Windows user account that you are being prompted for then you can save this in the Keychain, as shown below.

There is no such option/setting on an iPhone to determine this. Whether you can view the attachment has more to do with your connection, WiFi or cellular, and the size of the attachment than anything else. There will be a paperclip indicating the message includes an attachment regardless if downloaded with the message or not. When connected to the cellular network, if an attachment is below a designated size the attachment will be downloaded automatically. If over a certain size, you must select the attached file icon in the body of the message to download the attachment. The size limit varies by carrier/provider.

when your device is plugged in, and itunes (the program) is open.
if you click on your device on the left column of itunes under the Devices heading. you'll see in the middle of itunes the Summery tab.
scroll down and you will see some options.
open itunes when this device is connected
manually mange music and videos..
etc etc.
underneath you can turn off accessibility by selecting the Configure Universal Access button
in the pop up window select neither from the options (voice over, zoom, neither)

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.

Check your sync settings on the Music and other tabs. Personally I untick the box that says "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" and under Edit > Preferences > Devices I tick the box that says "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically". This means that I get to choose and, if necessary, edit the content selections and then start the sync only when I'm ready.
